Need BIG Help Please(for experts only) - HTC One X

Hello Guys, I can't install recovery on my HTC One X. I don't know what happened to HTC One X because it was given to me by my customer. I have installed recoveries and rooted so many HTCs but never came across problem like this
I'm stuck on Bootloop. Can't install recovery, can't boot into ROM
Tried so many solutions......
First of all what i did was i updated it's hboot to 1.39 by extracting firmware.zip from OTA Update
Everything went fine and it hboot was updated

Then i tried flashing 4 different RUUs by entering into RUU bootloader but they all got stuck on "writing zip...." left it for hour!
I tried everything like flashing custom recovery from fastboot or like flashing stock-signed recovery, fastboot erase cache blah blah....
I also tried by flashing separate img files boot, recovery, user etc...
No errors during flashing
Now the thing is i can't flash any firmware.zip file from RUU bootloader anymore. My bootloader is relocked, tried it by unlocking and relocking again but flashing went failed as i was thinking of updating hboot to 1.72
I mostly use Linux but i did try all these methods from Windows but nothing different

EDIT: I see you flashed recovery witch recovery you flash can you go in recovery if not when you flash recovery run the command fastboot erase cache

First run the command fastboot erase cache
Flash Philz Recovery 5.15.9 with comand fastboot flash recovery recovery.img take the recovery.img from zip
After that run the command fastboot erase cache
after this go in bootloader phone not connected to the PC and go in recovery.
Other thing if you can't flash recovery any more or what ever you want to flash, check the battery voltage with this command fastboot getvar battery-voltage if the battery is under 3800mV you must to charge the phone read this THREAD for how to charge phone in bootloader.
Report with result!

Did you flash the 2.17 one ?

Yea! 2 different 2.17 ROMs
Do you think its hardware fault?

Probably, if a ruu can't sort it......but unlock the bootloader, flash a custom recovery, wipe ALL even sdcard. Then relock the bootloader and run the 2.17.401 ruu again.

Thanks for your help

Is there any command to wipe all sd card(mass memory) data through fastboot? cause i can't flash custom recovery at all!
Thanks

Ow btw the fastboot firmware command you used is wrong in the last screenshot. It's fastboot flash zip firmware.zip and not fastboot flash firmware firmware.zip !
And what's wrong with flashing a recovery ?
Edit :
So you can flash a recovery without errors but can't enter it ! Did you try the 3.14.401.31 ruu ?
Make a factory reset from the bootloader and then run the ruu again.
And another idea, I see your main is 3.20.401 did you use the firmware from that ota ? If so grab the 3.14.401 firmware and flash it, then run the 3.14.401 ruu !

Sorry i was flashing with wrong command
So i did exactly what you told me to do. I grabbed the firmware file from 3.14.401.27 and flashed it and then i ran the RUU(3.14.401.27) exact version and it flashed my phone successfully. But still stuck on bootloop
Also tried by resetting from bootloader and running RUU again but no luck
Any other idea?

Thanks for helping me guys....

[TUT] Getting back to stock after flashing custom roms [Noob friendly]

This guide is intended to help you to return your One X device back to stock in order to either return the device for a warranty claim, or to be in a position to receive an official OTA (Over The Air) update. There may be other guides, but the intention of this guide is to be as simple to perform as is possible given the challenges facing us without having s-off for the One X.
There are 2 methods that can be used to restore back to stock from a custom rom:
1. Using a nandroid backup (if you took one when you first unlocked your bootloader)
2. Flashing a stock ruu
BEFORE STARTING
1. Charge your device. It is advisable to have at least 60 - 70% battery charge on your device before attempting this process
2. Install HTC Sync software and drivers on your pc.
3. You also need to have the fastboot folder and files installed on your pc.
Refer here for guidance on using adb and fastboot commands
OPTION 1 - Restoring stock rom from nandroid backup
If you followed the advice when first unlocking your bootloader, you should have a nandroid backup of your original rom . It is easier to restore your backup than going through the process of flashing from an ruu
NB! If you don't have a nandroid backup have a look HERE to see if one has been uploaded that you can use, or you can ask another user to possibly upload one for you.
1. Copy the boot.img file from your backup (/sdcard/clockworkmod/backup) to the fastboot folder on your pc and flash this via fastboot: (If you use a nandroid backup from another user from the link above, then extract the backup.zip and copy the main folder (should have the date of the backup in the foder name) to /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/.
If the backup is made using TWRP then you will need TWRP Recovery to restore it. Copy the main folder to /sdcard/TWRP/Backups/Your phones Serial Number/. The boot file for a backup made using TWRP will be named boot.emmc.win, but you can flash it the same way as flashing the boot.img file.)
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img (or fastboot flash boot boot.emmc.win if using TWRP backup)
fastboot erase cache
2. Boot into Recovery and restore the backup
3. Boot back to bootloader and flash the appropriate recovery file to match your stock rom which you are restoring (See links below)
Code:
fastboot flash recovery [I]nameofrecoveryfile[/I].img
fastboot erase cache
Links to stock recovery versions can be found below:

Stock Recoveries for 3.14.xxx roms
OPTION 2 - Restoring stock rom by flashing stock ruu
Get the RUU file required for your device:
Make sure that USB debugging is enabled (Settings/Developer options). In order to determine which ruu file you require, boot your device into bootloader mode (Power off and then restart device by holding Power and Volume Down button together). Connect to pc via USB and check that device shows FASTBOOT USB on screen. Enter the following command in command prompt:
Code:
fastboot getvar version-main
If for example this command returns the value 1.29.401.x then you need to use that file or you can use a higher numbered file from the same region eg 2.17.401.x. NOTE: You can't use a lower numbered file eg 1.26.401.x and you also can't use a file from a different region eg 2.17.707.x.
You can find many of the ruu files here:
Android Files
RooMyShare
PROCESS :
1. Boot your phone to fastboot mode by holding power+vol down button for 10 secs..(if your phone keeps restarting in normal phone mode, go to Setting>Power and untick Fast boot)
2. Plug your phone into your PC and open a Command Prompt.
(windows XP - Click Start > Run > type CMD in box then press OK
(Windows 7 - Click Start > type CMD in search box then press Enter)
3. cd to the location of your fastboot files folder
4. Relock bootloader - type command:
Code:
fastboot oem lock
The phone will then restart into fastboot again showing "RELOCKED"
6. On your pc run the RUU that you downloaded earlier, follow the steps as prompted and patiently wait for it to finish.
REMEMBER your phone should be charged ABOVE 50% AND if the ruu or restore is INTERRUPTED 4 any reason during restore your
phone MAY be PERMANENTLY BRICKED..
all the best..:fingers-crossed:

this has links to everything one needs(e.g. stock recovery)
c'mon!!! cooking a rom out of ruu..
"
Install stock rom of your CID
-fastboot oem readcid (to know your CID)
-all roms are based on x.xx.401.xx , so you need to download the right RUU(that matches your CID) and extract rom.zip to cook a stock rom for you
-flash custom stock rom(extracted and cooked from right RUU) on custom recovery
-fastboot flash boot c:\boot.img (flash stock kernel that's inside custom stock rom boot.img file)
RElock the bootloader (you can allways unlock)
-fastboot oem lock
Right RUU file for your CID
-put your phone on fastboot (it will not boot because you have a custom rom on a locked bootloader)
-now you can run the RUU exe file and upgrade your phone

The ruu are available only with service center or HTC..as it very dangerous flashing a ruu coz one error will get your device bricked..
@football has an inside source at HTC company itself who provides him ruu..thus only he can get it..
U can try here : http://hoxroms.serveftp.com/

You could explain the difference of the RUU's and wihch part of the RUU name tells wihch phone it is for.
As this was one of the biggest problem for noobs at least in the IncS days.
Otherwise great guide!
Any other mirror for the RUU´s ? Don#t want to buy a Premium acc only for this ...
You don't need to buy premium account....you can find username and password for file factory account on page no 170-175...try searching in football thread .................you will be able to download it.....

Our hox'x codename is "ENDEAVORU" so u will find it in ruu of our phone..
The middle part of ruu says which country it is meant for eg : Asia_India or Europe_xxx
After that there is country specific digits like 1.29.xxx.xx the "xxx.xx" is country code of ruu specific for each country..for India its 720.11
For Europe it is 401.20 etc..

I have no recovery now but the phone works. My question: Do I need the recovery? Im gonna give this phone to a girl friend and she has no clue about phones and wont ever need the recovery. But will the updates still work without recovery? if so im gonna leave it like this. If not can someone tell me how to install recovery after relocking and installing rom? any help would be great.

When your RUU installation went fine, it means that the stock recovery already properly installed. So, just leave it as you're giving this phone to someone else.
Yes right recovery would be flashed with ruu..
If u want to go to recovery boot into hboot(power+vol dwn for 10 secs) and select recovery..
If it doesn't go to recovery then boot phone into fastboot
Connect with pc
Open cmd
Cd to fastboot folder
Type fastboot erase cache
Discoonect phone, go to hboot and select recovery..

[Q] Updating Hboot from 1.28 JB to 1.39JB

Hi,
I currently running ARHD 18.1 Rom with the stock rom provided. The issue i have is when i try to install any other kernal for this rom, i loss my mobile network, wifi, etc.
I assumed the issue was due to the incorrect hboot (I'm currently on 1.28). I see 1.39 is out for my CID. So was thinking of flashing that. Was wondering if it was just good enough to go to fastboot and flash this new hboot 1.39. Or do i have to wipe my device, flashboot the new hboot, recovery, boot, rcdata.img? And then re install the ARHD 18.1?
Thanks in advance
Well you can go here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957376
Download the matching firmware for your CID, obtain the correct cid with a fastboot command
Fastboot oem readcid
When you have the correct firmware you rename the package to firmware.zip
Then you put the phone in the bootloader and lock the bootloader
Fastboot oem lock
Then you perform the firmware flash
Fastboot oem rebootRUU
Fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
Before the flash you don't have to wipe anything. Just lock the bootloader and perform the hboot firmware flash.
After that you unlock the bootloader and flash the rom again with a full wipe.
Edit : about the kernel thing, when you change kernel (boot.img) you flash the boot.img and then install the .zip file in recovery to add the right modules to the rom

Well yeah it should. The newer hboots should have a bit better performance. See it like the bios from a pc that gets updated. So in a way yes ! But if i noticed it actually.....no not really ...
ok... thanks again

Hi guys .. I tried to install hboot 1.36 to get rid of the sensor problem as in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1922203 .. anyway something must have gone wrong with the flashing and now it is written in hboot that its version is 1.39 which is not supported according to my CID "HTC_J15" .. and now the recovery is erased and I've tried many times to re install it using the fastboot but when I restart the phone into recovery it displayes the icon for "no recovery" .. can you please help me to return to RUU or to install recovery in any way .. thanks in advance

Actually hboot 1.39 is correct. The firmware might contain some wrong info but is 100% correct. And you cant flash any other firmware. It will stall on the flash and gives an error. So my guess its all oke.
Fastboot flash unlocktoken unlock_code.bin
With the file in the Fastboot folder will unlock the bootloader.
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Fastboot erase cache
With the recovery in the Fastboot folder it must flash it.
Do the commands give you a OKEY message after flashing ?
Try this one

Unlock the bootloader as suggested by Mr Hofs and flash the latest CWM recovery.
Then restore this backup - http://bugsylawson.com/files/file/199-cwm-nandroid-backup-cid-htc-j15-3164154/
Also flash the boot.img from the backup. Then you'll be back to stock.

[Q] HTC one X freezing on every rom

Hi,
Today i tried to install the MIUI rom for my HTC one X, but it kept freezing after 20 seconds.
So i flashed the backup i made before i flashed the MIUI rom, but it froze.
After that i tried to flash a backup i made about a month ago, but didnt work either.
Please help, many thanks
Did you flash the boot image from the miui ROM zip? And when flashed your backups did you reflash the boot img from the backups ?. Last but not least , did you fastboot erase cache after flashing each rom ?

Thanks to reply so fast,
i did flash the boot.img from the zip of the MIUI. but did not fastboot erase cache.
After i installed the MIUI rom, i booted my device several times and could get passed the bootlogo, but it just freezes after 30 seconds or so.
So i decided to flash those backups, without reflashing the boot.img (thought the backup restores those) niether did i fastboot erase cache.
so now he freezes on the bootlogo after 3 second or so.
Seems to me that you didn't wiped properly, or your hboot is to low maybe ?

thank you very much for your help,
found a threat were you give step by step instructions how to upgrade your hboot, but my question is, can i do all this whitout a rom installed because none will boot.
Depends on wich thread
And yes it should be possible, just flash the standalone firmware, or return to your original stock ICS 2.17 rom and update via official HTC ota.

thanks again for helping me out
First rename the zip to firmware.zip
Fastboot oem lock
Fastboot oem rebootRUU
Fastboot flash zip firmware.zip (may be needed twice)
Then unlock the bootloader, flash a custom recovery and then the desired new rom

Uhm no the new custom recovery is here.....this one works fine for me
http://db.tt/SPXdFfPw
And if you still have the unlock file, then you can flah it right away
Fastboot flash unlocktoken unlock_code.bin
If you haven't got one you must make one indeed via the HTC devsite

You must to flash latest firmware manually and then Install custom ROM or stock. The XE edition is with problem most of the time.
EDIT: Give me the result from command fastboot getvar version-main

Now you want to have working phone with stock or you want to have the latest firmware and custom rom.
If you want the first download this RUU relock the bootloader and run the RUU as administrator
if you want the second one I must to find firmware for the latest JB and give you instruction

OK then download this firmware.zip after this paste in your fastboot directory then:
1. You are with locked or relocked bootloader after this run fastboot oem rebootRUU
2. After this run the command fastboot flash zip firmware.zip TWO times wait the phone to finish
3. fastboot reboot-bootloader
Then download Philz 5.15.9 recovery and flash it with the command fastboot flash recovery recovery.img then run the command fastboot erase cache then go in recovery and charge your phone and mount sd card and copy your new rom.zip to a folder on the sd card. after this install it via recovery, after this flash the boot.img from rom.zip with the command fastboot flash boot boot.img and then fastboot erase cache after this reboot the phone and you will have working phone and REMEMBER If you want to install KitKat rom you must to flash latest CWM or TWRP or PHILZ but only on Philz5.15.9 sd card mountung work
Run the command exactly like I write you RUU must be with CAPS letter.
REPORT after all procedure
