The CWM or Team Win recoveries will not stick after rebooting the phone with w OTA update. There is a way of making recovery stick on the rooted OTA update. Does anyone know the correct files to freeze or erase for the new recoveries to stick?????
Is there another way of these recoveries to stick besides flashing a custom Rom??

I definitely didn't have that problem. If you have root use google manager to install twrp

I have root, I have Goo Manager, I'm on a completely stock rooted rom and every time you reboot the new OTA software over writes the custom recovery to the stock Android recovery. If you have a custom rom this will not happen, only on a stock, rooted OTA latest update rom. Others are having the same issue.
Vinny
What methods did you use to install the ota and root?
Have you tried flashing the stock rooted version wildchld released?

I waited for the OTA update then used Odin to flash root, did not reboot after flashing with Odin, pulled battery, then went right to recovery and flashed super user.zip file. I rooted my phone the right way. This is my 2nd SGS3 and didn't have this problem with the 1st one because it had the older build. This is not a problem if you are on a custom build. Only stock, rooted with latest OTA build.

Guys, I have seen this on my GF's GSII (Sprint) as well as on my nexus 7. They are placing a file called recovery-from-boot.p in the /system/ directory that overwrites recovery on every boot. I put a guide a few post up that outlines the issue when I saw it on my GF's phone.
Personally my T-Mobile has been fine, but this scenario I have dealt with before. So don't flame that bad.
The bottom line is that without some custom modding, if you're running the official stock OTA update, stock kernel, etc, standard CWM recovery is not going to stick.
Plain and simple.

Ok, both files were present as described in your guide.
Renamed both to:
recovery-from-boot.bak
install recovery.sh.bak
Reflashed CWM through ROM Manager. Rebooting now, then will try power off & booting into recovery. Hang tight
*Edit: Worked like a charm. Gentlemen, we have the solution. Thanks due (and given) to cybrnook both here and in the guide

I would argue, I have a stock rooted rom, stock kernel and I update to the new OTA update via Kies and TWRP has stuck every boot since then. I even tested it again when I saw this thread as it made me unsure.

Maybe the Kies version is different than the OTA.
Maybe TWRP overwrites or renames/deletes the files causing it.
But you can't argue with my posts, because I said official OTA update, and CWM.

No worries, but for clarification to all the read this thread. The update from Kies is the exact same Official update as the OTA, so if you have not been prompted for the update yet from T-Mo, just install Kies on your PC and plus your phone in, it will prompt you for the update.
I have another guide I made for that:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1842142
For the recovery, installing twrp or CWM wont remove the two files I listed. This is done manually. I know on the sprint side, they made a root Super User package that swiped those off specific to the sprint phone. But I opted away from that for my GF as I Prefer SuperSU and am anal retentive about installing something I don't want and uninstalling it.

ingenious, it's not present on all phones. Like mine for example, I have been fine since day 1 of owning the phone. But my GF's sprint phone had the persistent install present.
It's strange, some phones don't have it at all, some only have the .p file, and some have both. I have not found the common denominator yet.

I was on the stock rom which I had rooted successfully. I had made a twrp backup of that rom. I went to install Jovy's Deodexed rom and had a number of force close issues so I decided to Nandroid back to my original stock rooted rom. When I went to reboot - I almost get to the start screen and I get a system is not responding error, then phone reboots.
I downloaded the Odin tar stock file and flashed the usual way in Odin, but the damn phone keeps rebooting. I only tick the reset time and auto reboot, not the repartition option like usual.
Wonder if I'll have to flash csc files etc. For now - I'm kinda screwed, although I still have my S4 for now.
Any help is appreciated. This is all so new - not much to research just yet.
Thanks Deez.

Just wondering, did you back up and restore your efs? Foolishly, I restored mine, which I never have done. I normally back it up for an emergency, but never restore. I'm think that's what happened, possibly. But I know next to nothing, just guessing at this point.

Hey guys, I've been using the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 N7100 since half a year or so. A few months back i rooted my phone using Odin3-v1 and installed CWM via Rom manager. I then installed Cyanogenmod 10.1 and Everything seemed to go according to plan. My phone worked great.
But recently Cyanogenmod released the Unofficial 10.2 nightly which was based on 4.3 and unknowingly i downloaded the update and i have 4.3 running on my note 2 now.
At first i thought it was pretty decent but then i found out that i had lost my root option. whenever i tried to open the super su app it said ' There is no binary installed for 4.3, I should re-root my device manually'.
So i figured i might just have to root my phone again.
I went and rooted my phone via Odin3-v1( the same software i used initially to root my phone) but that just made things worse.
I had not failed to get my root access again but now i don't have CWM installed on my phone.
I tried installing it again via rom manager but that didn't work..
So now.. i'm stuck with this. I don't have root options and i don't know how to manually re root. I have no idea how to get CWM back.
I just want to get out of this mess and get back to stock rom.
I'm running cm10.2(running 4.3).
Please help me!
Thank you.:good:

So I rooted my SG3, SGH-I747 last night. Took a bit of looking as I recently updated to 4.3 OTA which made the process more difficult than I remember in the past on this phone, but got it done. I then found a ROM to flash, but flash failed. Before flashing, I did take a nandroid backup using TWRP, but after attempting restore with it, on boot up it gets through the samsung logo and then just sits at the AT&T load screen. I have tried to go in and perform factory reset (wiping cache, dalvik and system), but nothing is working. I then downloaded 4.1.1 stock firmware for this device to flash via ODIN but I get a FAIL, and same result, stuck at AT&T screen. Did I brick my phone?????
Please Help!
You cannot downgrade after 4.3 flash stock 4.3 to repair

Do not flash anything from sammobile because you're on AT&T and they don't have the 4.3 files there. You already updated to 4.3 if you do happen to successfully flash something older through Odin you will have a paperweight for a phone.
Try to do a factory reset. And 4.3 takes a really long time to boot after a factory reset or fresh flash. You will think it is stuck just plug it in to the charger and come back in 10 minutes so you can not be impatient. Let it do its thing. When I Say a long time the last time (yesterday) I flashed a Rom (stock by loserskater) it took 4 minutes and 22 seconds to boot(I timed it had nothing better to do after hard bricking the phone for the third time in a week)

Follow up on the issue.
Just so this thread didn't just stop, I wanted to give an update on my situation. Ended up hard tricking my phone and sent it off to get pba replaced. Should be getting it back soon, 70 dollars later.
Just happened
I tried to flash a new mod'd touchwiz launcher and tried to restore from a nandroid backup of dandroid.
After restoring stuck on boot logo.
Tried to wipe and restore again to no avail.
I put the rom back on the sd card and re-flashed and is up and working fine.
You might wanna try this (with your chosen rom).
