The KitKat update brings improved stability, and major features include white status bar icons, improved performance, reduced memory usage, improvements to Samsung’s onscreen keyboard in landscape mode, inbuilt wireless printing support, ability to select the default launcher and messaging app from the settings menu, a camera shortcut and full-screen album art on the lock screen, and new emojis. You might also find that most apps are lesser access to the external storage than before, which is by Google’s design and hence something you’ll have to live with.
Improvements:
KitKat
Improved stability
New camera shortcut on the lock screen
Improved on screen keyboard

Knox could be triggered it doesn't matter..... My device has knox triggered since a long time ago and upgraded to 4.4 just fine WIFI calling is working you just need to flash a costum kernel after to make WIFI work "I USED ADAM KERNEL" I'm sure any other tw 4.4 kernel will work just fine also..... for some reason this package doesn't update the baseband leaves it on the mk2
http://wanamlite.com/2014/03/06/adam-kernel-galaxys4-lte-v2-1-android-kitkat/ <~~~ ADAM KERNEL
I just got done with the OTA and I'm still have the MK2 baseband. How can I get the newer one?

Is weird that the OTA update is not upgrading us to the newer baseband...... I guess we have to wait till the complete firmware is out that will deff upgrade us to the new Baseband ???? is ur WIFI working after the OTA update ?? with stock kernel ?
THE ACTUAL FIRMWARE hasn't been released to download so we'll have to wait till is uploaded
I actually see that some people got updated to the newer BASEBAND with the OTA update and some DIDN'T that's just weird..... I guess the unlucky ones have to wait till the full firmware is released

The only reason I updated was for the newer baseband. I guess I'll just wait for it. I didn't really try out the stock at all. I just finished the update and after Rooting and custom recovery, I'm restoring my GPE rom. I can't take TW.

What is it about 4.2.1 that makes you want it so much?
Photosphere? You can have it on your 4.1.1 and 4.1.2 roms.
Toggles? You have them already since the first Galaxy S.
The 4.2 launcher? You can get apex with a jelly bean that will be a lot better than the stock aosp version.
Bugfixes? There aren't many bugs in 4.1.2 as opposed to jumping from 4.0.4 to 4.1.1
Enjoy your phone..or edit build.prop to 4.2.2

What is your problem? Download 4.1.2 ROM with OTA support and use it. Or just change you OTA update country region with adb or csc. You will instantly get your 4.1.2 update this way.

Anyway, I believe we'll get 4.2 within a couple of months. It's really hard to believe, but it's true that Samsung does provide updates quicker than any other brand atm.

Within a couple of months for sure. Samsung is definitely leading the way when it comes to updates.
That said, I am quite happy with 4.1.1 stock. Doing Everingham I want and even more. But we all have didn't needs I guess. Each to his own.

I believe we should receive it, based on the Note 1 track history with ICS, around May/June.

I chose to stay on stock rom and never tried custom roms with this phone but every team should be thanked for their work whether its good or not, mostly good.
They do this on their free time and are not obliged to do so.

If you change your device name and android version number in the build.prop you can install the 4.2.1 camera.
If you want updates so quick, you should've purchased a Nexus device...
Wait for the developers of Samsung to test their builds well so that they can release it to you.
You don't like 'buggy' CyanogenMod, AOKP right? Then WAIT for fully perfect ROMs... they need to test it to the core so that the end user has no problems.

I doubt we'll see 4.2.1 ever, it's buggier than any "crappy Cyanogen" out there and Samsung (and Google) knows it. IF Google issues a fix (and I'm not talking 4.2.2), add 6 months to that date and BINGO! This thread is answered
Cheers

Not really the same thing. This is for people who just want to update their completely stock phones.
Well after trying several times I gave it another shot. On my rooted stock rom running ma7 I installed twrp over my stock recovery, then I tried the all in one zip. Worked the first time. Don't know why it failed all other times. Thanks to everyone. First time using twrp and I really like it. Wish I had tried it long time ago. So easy to use.

Sure. Make sure you download the right one. No data if you want to keep your data intact. Also I read that the one clicks don't give you the modem but since you already have it you should be on MC2 everything after flashing a OC.

Well if you're stock then go ahead and try the ota.zip posted here. If you have stock recovery it should take it. Also I don't see why doing a No Data OC will ruin your Google wallet. Doing a no data should be like accepting an ota.

No go. Back in stock recovery and even unrooted, it just won't take ota zip. It doesn't even ask for the pushed ota anymore. I guess I'll stick with this till next update.

you will want to use the tool labeled as "ResignUpdate-v3.0.1-Toggle2G-v0.3.5.zip" and use it to convert the ROM, it will export a fixed ROM, move the .zip to your device and then flash it. there are instructions in the link provided.
EDIT: the tool is a desktop application so you will need to extract its contents on to your computer

Question does this make the rom not able to go in to 2g mode ?? or does it actually let it switch between 2g/3g/lte without data dropping ???
Reminder: this is a temporary fix.
When phone is awake signal status functions normally.
When phone is sleeping your phone will switch in to 2g-only mode

Good news for you!! You do not need to use cmd, you can use the java application "ResignUpdate.jar".

I used that app without doing any of the prior steps in the readme file and ended up making the rom 0bites basically an empty file..... How did you go about doing yours ????
is the .zip for the resign tool extracted?
also it takes time, it will not be ready instantly, you will have to wait for the tool to finish processing
Make sure java is up to date.

Also, be sure you get permission before modifying a ROM and uploading. Some devs may take offense.
I'll have a build up for everyone by tomorrow night. (De)odex stock/slim, that's 4 versions. It will be close to stick as possible other than root and missing the boot loader and Knox.

Just to be clear, the Odin-able ROM will contain Knox, thus flashing it will result in the installation of the e-fuse? Hence if folks attempt to revert, the Knox counter will then trip?

Won't contain the boot loader. So no Knox flag and should be revert able. Shouldn't trip anything since it's official firmware

Cool thanks. I know it wouldn't trip anything if installed, I was just concerned about reverting out of it. My understanding is that once Knox is on, the Knox counter is active. However, whay you're saying is thay the e fuse/Knox counter is boot loader dependent, therefore problem solved by removing the official Leak's boot loader... Correct?
Do you sub the boot loader with a previous version's boot loader? And if that's the case, would we expect the same kind of problems that were encountered with the 4.3 builds (sound, connectivity) until the hybrid modem solution was applied?

No just don't add a bootloader at all.
And evidently people are able to revert according to the i9505 thread.
I'm on mk2 everything including bootloader. Once I have flashed it I'll provide full info if it trips anything.
Dunno yet. I'd imagine you'd at least need the mk2 modem. The modems will be removed too. They'll fail in Odin and if flashed will cause no service.

Hahaha no. Odex and Deodexing has absolutely nothing to do with it. Nor the kitchen.
Do things need removed? Yes. Bootloader and modem's would be one. They fail in odin. You can even flash the recovery if you wanted.
I did the same thing with 4.3 update. No kitchen needed. No fancy fake cooking. Or any other crap another has said.
I'll show you in the next 2 hours. Should be heading home in a few.

Yeah mines have been tripped for a while so it doesn't bother me at all either lol..... Weird that the wifi isn't working tho ??? Are you getting any signal lost or is the 4.3 radio working good ??
Nothing fancy, just the Boost/VM variant of 4.4.2 Kit Kat tar, captured from Kies.
NOTE: For those Boost/VM users who flashed the Sprint ND8 version, this WILL flash successfully over the ND8 bootloader.
- This will (should) not wipe your data.
- As with everything, you are responsible for what you do to your device.
- I have Deodexed and Odexed rooted stock zips ready to test if someone wants to give them a go. Let me know.
Download Link
Instructions:
1. Download file to your PC(somewhere you can find it!)
2. Put your phone into Download/Odin mode
3. Start Odin(I suggest the latest, 3.09 is out now I think, I used 3.07)
4. Click on PDA, find tar file, click it to put it into PDA slot
5. Click Start
6. Takes a good 15 minutes, so sit back and chill. It will reboot on it's own, and you now have Kit Kat.
Oh, and because I know someone will ask, YES, this does have the Knox bootloader on it
Does anyone have the modem from this build. Hoping it will fix issues I'm having with ND8 modem.

Im going to stick with the nd8 modem. I thought about trying this but everything is working fine. I use virgin mobile and i use xda. When i bought my s3 i couldn't find kit kat for virgin so i researched the sprint tar. I was only on the stock virgin 4.3 for a day, and rooted and what not. I odined sprint s3 stock nd8 tar through odin3.07 with reboot unticked- pulled battery - odined philz touch recovery(spr) reboot unticked - pulled battery. Then i booted into recovery flashed newest philz (lte) recovery. Then i flashed bilgerryans wicked x rom. Phone is now rooted, deodexed, and has custom kernal. Phone works great, especially since i changed data setting for throttling. Hope this helps someone. My exact steps i took to get my phone to awsomeness.

Hi! Update PRL and Profile from the Settings / More / System Update menu.
If that doesn't do it, there's a code to dial in the stock dialer to reset data. I need to add it to my contacts some I keep forgetting. ##73678# or something like that. Be prepared, I think it reboots your phone in the process. Then update PRL and Profile again after.

If your waiting for a knox free version.... You will be waiting forever. Its not going to happen. There is no way to take knox out of the bootloader, trust me everyone has been trying... Knox just makes it were you cant downgrade through odin. You can flash any rom version you want in recovery.

And Knox was further incorporated into the device with 4.4 (and it will be in all Android devices to some extent with Android L). It makes a call to see if Knox is present at first boot, if it's not there it bricks the device. All the newer devices have it too. Unless you're planning on sending your phone to Samsung for a warranty claim there no reason to even think about it being there.

To get 4.4.2 without bricking... You need to odin 4.4.2 stock tar and odin 4.4 2 compatible recovery afterwards. Any other way will lead to brick. I never have to worry about knox because the only tar i have is the 4.4.2. I flash whatever rom i want in recovery with no problems. Like Bilgerryan said knox really only affects you, if your trying to return your phone to samsung with knox tripped. Im loving 4.4.2 im glad i made the plunge.
