[Q] Help needed in advance restore of nandroid backup - Sony Xperia M

Hey people im a newbie here and i want to learn stuff about android.
Recently i checked out the cm 11(4.4.2) roms for my XM... they were good but most of the releases are in the beta stages... I reverted to my stock rom(4.1.2) after a try...
I had a backup of my earlier stock rom(4.1.2) which i restored through cwm successfully.. all went great.. But then the liquid smooth rom came in and i wanted to try it... it was great... i made a clean flash of the liquid smooth rom from my stock... i had a backup of my cm11(4.4.2) rom from before.. i made an advance restore of the data from it(4.4.2 to 4.4.2) and everything went well...
Now my question is if in case i do an advance restore of data from my stock rom backup(4.1.2) to the liquid smooth rom(4.4.2)... will i get any issues??
Thanks for helping in advance..

I'm far from an expert on the topic at hand, however I believe you shouldn't get any errors so long as all the system files to the ROM are left untouched. Get somebody to confirm or correct me however.

playing with nandroid
I did a few sessions of backup and restores in my XM... I found quite a wierd result..
When i do an advanced restore from stock rom(4.1.2) backup to liquid rom(4.4.2) all works fine...
But whenever i try an advanced restore from liquid rom(4.4.2) backup to stock(4.1.2) i get a bootloop...
I just wanna know if this is the same with everyone or is there a mistake in my measures... I guess its got to do something with android upgrading and downgrading procedures... if its not my fault...

[Q] nandroid restore: does it remove the custom rom and replace it with stock?

Might be a pretty basic qtn but heres the deal.
I took a nandriod backup of dk28 (no root) and then flashed it with nebula rom. Now since the rom was new, all my data/contacts/apps etc are gone obviously.. I am wondering if I did a restore of the nandroid restore, will it restore all that (ie sms/email/contacts/data/apps) or is it used to go back to stock rom only, ie it will remove my custom rom and put back the stock as it was pre flashing nebula?
All I need is a way to keep the custom rom but also restore my sms/email/apps etc.
Thanks!

It will restore everything excatly how it was when you saved it. Including your Texts/Mail etc that were in your inbox at the time you saved. You are basically going back to the exact point where you saved. You can create backups for every rom you have, it is not just for putting your phone back to stock. I always back up stock first, so I can always go back if needed.
Thanks Heelfan71..I understand it puts back everything as it was .. but will I loose my custom rom after that is my question.

If you restore your backup? Yes you will loose your custom rom, unless you make a backup of that too (this is what I do). So you can go back and forth between the 2 if needed. Is that what you were wondering?
basically i want to switch back and forth the roms but keep my data intact.. right now after flashing the new rom.. i have obviously lost all my sms/emails/apps etc.. is there a one click solution which will restore all my data on every new rom i install?
edit: Also , I did take a titanium backup before I flashed the new rom.. but i didnt do a complete (ALL) backup, since I couldnt find a option to backup all. I had to choose each service/app/etc to backup.. so I ended up backing up all the stuff that I understood..but restoring them hasnt restored my sms/email data yet.
Do an advanced restore->restore /data in cwm.
I've had pretty good luck keeping my contacts, apps, and settings this way. Some people see weird force close issues after restoring /data. Check it out and see if it works for you.
thaniks.. i ll give it a try .. i thought about it.. but wasnt sure what exactly it does.
did that .. now that removed the rom manager and spare parts.. not sure what else it did.. but it did bring everything sms/apps/emails back ..
i guess i can install rom manager from the market..
If you only restore data your custom rom will stay. It will only restore your apps and app data. If you are restoring data from a rom on the same file system, you should be fine.
In other words, flashing VIPERrom 4.0.3 EXT4, then backing up, then flashing Bonsai 1.1.4 on RFS, then restoring data is not a good idea.
@ryno502 makes sense....thats what i did and it did restore everything.. Thanks!
now i ve to find some good widgets and lockscreen changes..
Nandroid restore on Custom ROM
I own a Xperia Arc(LT 15i)..rooted,unlocked...
I have Cyanogenmod, stable version running on my phone now...
I had taken a nandroid backup using CWM Auto-installer...
But now I wanna know how can i restore my apps that i had with Stock ROM...i tried a advanced backup on /data alone but then, its not booting up if i do so...
Please help..
Xperia?
Your data is incompatible with CM. You will need to download apps again unless you have a Titanium Backup.

[Q] Backup problem :'(

I did a nandroid backup of my phone before going to CM7, after that I decided I want to go back, but it won't let me restore. It does the whole restore process but restarts CWM in the middle of restoring data.
I tried to narrow it down and it seems it crashed when restoring "com.htc.messages".
Can anyone help me? I was on Android Revolution 2.0.1.1 going to PNK Crispy Duck.
EDIT #1: I tried restoring again and it seemed to frezze when restoring something like "pdu"? Which is also in the data catergory, but the size of the backup - 1.14GB - seems to be right size, considering its bigger than my last back up - ~1.09G - so I don't know what the problem is :S

Which version of CWM are you using? It is known that backup and restores are f**ked up the newest version of CWM
Anyways, what you can try is to flash Android Revolution HD and then try to check if restore works then. It requires a bit of your time but it maybe worth trying.

If your using Clockword mod recovery, then u can download rom manager and make a full back up of your current rom.
I'm assuming you already have root?
I am using 4EXT recovery I am just testing out the backup and restore at the moment to make sure it works but thanks for your advice, will try that if this method doesn't work

4EXT is highly thought of around here, I like using CWM as it's so easy to restore backups straight through rom manager.
Happy flashing
Ok just had a great result with a 4EXT restore. It works im so happy going flash a ROM right now lol. Thanks Everyone that helped me I dont have any thanks left for today but you will surely receive them tomorrow im out PEACE

My friend had the same problem..he has a efs backup but both of us dont knw how to restore it back (tried few methods post googling but none worked even after saying successful)
Unbelievable how many of us fell into the same trap. I also flashed this recovery because I wasn't paying enough attention to what I downloaded. And I also lost my IMEI. I hope you backed up your EFS or you could be in trouble.
If you backed up your EFS then just recover it with the same program that you used to make the backup. If that doesn't work try flashing the stock Samsung ROM and try again. You can also try to flash the modem. This helps sometimes.
I had a backup of my EFS. I tried to restore it in CM12, didn't work. I tried to restore it in Ditto4, didn't work. Then I used an old STOCK Samsung ROM. First I got a generic IMEI whereas I got null/null on custom ROMs before. Making progress. Then I tired to recover my IMEI eith EFS. Didn't work. Then I flash the modem with modem_XXDME4__ (i'm from central Europe) and voila, IMEI back.
This is of course all possible only if you backed up your EFS file. If you did not, chances of getting the phone back are quite slim. I've read about a hunderd threads while trying to recover my phone and some say that when you don't have a backup of your EFS partition, just flashing your stock Samsung rom might work. By stock Samsung ROM I mean the one that was preloaded when you bought your phone.
Good luck.

As what @Sheeptar (Thanks ) said, you can try to restore the efs using the method you used to back it up.
Else, try flashing a stock rom. This happened to me too and I was in the middle of flashing a new rom, so I flashed a stock rom using odin, and didn't have a problem while using the new rom.
I guess that version has no modem support, trying flashing previous version
thanks a lot guys ...
had a full twrp back and restored same ....
u ppl are so supportive ....keep up d good work ..
lolz i restored d full backup
didnt tried only efs...
another possible way..
This worked for me once.. Restore the stock version. E.g. Verizon. Then use the setup/phone/reset to factory option. I flashed the wrong note 2 room onto my i605 . Restoring via twerp didn't work, but the above did.

[Q] Restore Data and App from KK on LP with Titanium

Hi guys,
I've got a little problem! But at first some facts:
This is what I've flashed before: the latest release of stock based KK- Rom Android Now HD
My new rom was the CM based BlissPop 2.3
On my KK Rom I backed up all of my Apps/Data with Titanium Backup. After flashing the BlissPop Rom I restored all Apps (no system apps) and data. So far so good: all apps were restored and worked. But now the issue: not all data were restored. Some apps didn't had the original data, for example profiles of games were missed etc.
U got any clue or hint whats the problem is there or how to fix it? Thx in advance!
