Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 Speaker Noise When Volume Muted - Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, 10.1, 8.4 Q&A, Help & Trouble

I'm just making this thread in the hope that this is a fixable problem, so here goes...
If I mute the tablet by lowering the volume until it is off and then play music or a youtube video, or indeed anything else that would normally result in sound through the speakers, I can hear a quiet noise that sounds a little bit like an old 56k modem trying to connect, sort of squelchy chirps and tweets.
I can recreate this every time, so I'm wondering if anyone else is having this problem and if so, did you find a workaround or a fix? I found a thread on another forum where others were having the same problems here:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...-pro-8-4-random-noise-coming-out-speaker.html
It's easy to test, just go to youtube via your browser or the android app and play a video that has sound with your volume as low as it'll go.
Thanks!

My 8.4 does the same thing

Same problem that became even more persistent when I installed CM11 to my 8.4.
Kind of annoying problem, wonder if there can be a software fix for it...

I'm going to speak to Samsung later, I'll let you know what they say. Hopefully there will be a software fix.

I've spoken to Samsung, they are aware of the fault and are looking into it, but they say that it is a hardware fault and the tablets will need replacing. So back mine goes today for a replacement.

Interesting. I guess I'll try to return mine at Best Buy before my 15-day return period is up. Any clue if Best Buy checks to see if the warranty void flag has been tripped or do they generally just accept the return regardless?

I've no idea about Best Buy, sorry bud, I'm from the UK :good: The place I got mine from insist on a reference number from Samsung before they will authorise a return. Fortunately, Samsung were really helpful.

I've returned mine 3 times and had the problem with all of the tablets. Samsung said there is no reported issues

Mine is not having this, or at least I can hear it

Finally got my replacement, it seems to working ok, just a very faint hiss with my ear up against it, so all's good.

I returned mine to Best Buy, (almost) no questions asked. I'll probably wait a while before picking up a replacement. Probably won't get it again until a price drop on the device.

I have the same problem, looks like all the Tab Pro 8.4 suffer from it, it only appears when I open an app/game with sound and mute it. Will be best if we all call Samsung and make them to "report" this issue.

Open any game, mute the Media sound and listen to the speaker, if you don't hear any noise you are one of the lucky ones

My replacement 8.4 doesn't have the fault, same batch, same retailer. Seems to be luck of the draw.

I bought it from sears because I had some points to spend. Took it back and reordered one from them 3 times.

First noticed this playing minecraft. Now it's all I hear and I really love this tablet. Ugh..
Edit: Returned to Best Buy. Pains me to do it but this is a killer issue.

I had beeen waiting for this tablet, Love the tablet but had to return it due to this issue. It's very loud in a quiet room.
I checked at store, even the display unit had the noise defect.

My replacement arrives next week but in the mean time I just taped over the speaker grilles... solves the issue completely. It does muffle the sound but I still find it loud enough that I don't notice the muted effect in daily use. Gaffers tape works well - almost no residue, tears perfectly straight, and has a nice fabric feel like hockey tape.

Hi,
Anyone had a problem of the earpiece dying? Mine stop working on Friday. Had the phone only for two weeks. Really disappointed, I hope this is not of things to come with quality.

Headset provided with the Desire really is rubbish, but still 2 weeks seem way to soon for them to break, I have my hero's headet and it's still working after a year.
Call htc (or the shop you bought it from) and ask them to send a new headset?
Got my phone back. What a long wait, they replaced it!

Galaxy Nexus broken

Hi,
my friend dropped his Galaxy Nexus on the floor and broke the screen (glass and display). But the phone seems to be working, since it gives the vibration and a little sound when turned on and off. When connected to the PC the storage is displayed correctly (all the photos are there). The problem is when i stick the SIM and when i try to call it fails to receive the call, but afterward you can see the LED notification blinking the white color about every 7 secs.
Since i cannot return for warranty because it was dropped, now im looking to buy the display. Prices seem a bit high...
The question that I've got is this: Is it worth to Change the Display? Can I be sure that the phone will eventually work?
It concerns me the fact that maybe something else is damaged.
Any help or thought is appreciated.
Many thanks.
PS: My friend is a Noob when talking about phones and he didnt know whether it was on 4.0.4 or 4.2.1
It will work properly.
What is the price for screen ??

Thanks for your fast answer,
I've been searching over the internet and the lowest price i could find was about $120, was hoping a bit less since other phones like galaxy s3 was like $40. Can you find me any display?

Samsung Galaxy Nexus repair how to
Hi. Only to comment: My Galaxy Nexus bought on the Google Play store started freezing after 9 months... typical intermittent problem.
I had a hard time to find how to create a ticket request to have the Galaxy Nexus repaired.
This is the web page with information:
CAN"T POST LINKS!!! www[dot]samsung[dot]com[slash]us[slash]support[slash]service[slash]warranty[slash]GT-I9250M
I called the Samsung Android phones repair center (at midnight PDT) and got the ticket number, service repair approval. They sent me the regular mail label and I sent it. Now I'm waiting for the repaired phone.
Good luck.

Loudspeaker.

My loudspeaker on Note II recently failed so I ordered a new one off of ebay. I replaced it today and noticed that is was slightly different. From what I have read the loudspeaker is also the 3g antenna as well. On the one out of my phone it had three metal tabs that make contact with the board and on the replacement one it had only two. I put it in and so far everything is working fine. Is anything not going to work? From what I can tell everything still seems to be working the same. Thanks.

I know it does but the speaker failure was my fault it wasn't a warranty issue. I was doing some metal work on a car and I forgot to leave my phone away from where I was working and some metal filings got into the loudspeaker. I didn't think it was right to try and claim warranty on something that I know was obviously my fault. Also I don't have another phone to use while this one is out for repairs.

The speaker is pretty much molded into the piece of plastic. Not sure what you could do to put something louder. Guess you could buy a replacement piece and play around with fitting another speaker in there. Also I had to put my old one back in for now it seems the tmobile variant of the note 2 has an extra antenna in it due to the hspa+. While it was working fine art my house when my wife and I went out when reception got a little worse my phone was immediately dropping down to 1 to 2 bars and losing 4g and using 2g/edge while my wife's note 2 had nearly full 4g service. Make sure to watch out for that if anyone is deciding to replace this part on a tmobile note 2. I found one company that sells the correct one. All the rest have only the two connections.
Good to know.. Thanks for the heads up.

Sad day, cracked screen.

Well, sad day today. A golf ball landed on my galaxy s3's screen. Needless to say, golf ball > galaxy s3.
Called customer service to see how much it is to be replaced, and with my insurance, its a big 166$. Ridiculous.
EDIT:
My brother works at a Radio shack, and they'll fix it for like 100$.
Has anyone used Radio shack before to get a screen replacement? If so, how long did it take, and did they do a goob job?

Purchase the replacement screen on eBay, watch a video on youtube on the screen replacement. It's easier than you think and wouldn't cost much at all. If your opposed to that I would trust them, it's not difficult.

The 100$ is what my brother said, after looking online it actually ends up to being 329$.
I'm thinking I'll let T-Mobile do it... I don't want to risk destroying it myself..
Kind of sucks though, a golf ball dropped and cracked it as bad as it did, it's at the bottom, like right on the home button, but the crack went to nearly the top of the screen.
Did you check eBay?? I would think they were way under $100 for the screen.

Well I checked Amazon, I have Amazon Prime for free for being a student.. and they are around $15-20.
I just don't want to take the chance that i make it worse than it already is... I'm not good at all at doing things like that, I'd rather it be done by someone who knows what they are doing.
Also, they said I could use a phone from the T-Mobile store until mine is replaced, which is pretty cool..
Understandable you don't want to make it worse than it already is. Try looking for places in your local area, there are repair shops that fix phones and video game systems for a fraction of the cost. Some times on Groupon they have Groupons for say $60 for a screen replacement, that's always another option you could check out.

Yea, I will look around.. But I do like that I can take it to T-Mobile, and they will loan me a phone while it's being fixed. I'll have to odin it back to stock though. Oh well.

Ontop of having Radio Shack doing it...it will void your warranty...to keep your warranty either have T-Mobile or Samsung fix it.

Well I called the insurance company this morning. They said $150, and that my replacement phone will be here tomorrow.
All is well, atleast it still works so I can use it until the new one comes tomorrow. Glad im getting a new one as well, instead of just getting this one fixed and sent back.
Thanks for feedback guys! :victory:
Well, as new as a refurbished phone can get. Any replacement/warranty phone that congress from tmobile is most likely going to be refurbished. I know because I have one and I'm very nit picky about my phone and always find some small defect with it.

Asurion sometimes sends out BNIB devices but only if a) they don't have a refurb on hand or b) you've gone through a few refurbs in a short time.
I tried fixing my Nexus One's cracked screen...ROYALLY ****ed it up (just a little too much glue & ripped a ribbon) and ended up wasting $150 even after selling it for parts on eBay.
I would say if you are thinking about doing it yourself and don't have a lot of patience/manual dexterity/proper tools & work environment, don't try.
Also I figure the S3 is probably a lot harder to take apart than my old N1.

ASUS repair service.

I sent my new Nexus 7 back due to massive, intermittent screen flickering and I was wondering if anybody else has done the same?
The status of repair is:
"Product was repaired OK and is now packed ready for shipping or pick up."
I am wondering if they even fixed anything or if they are just sending it back. I was hoping they would replace it altogether but it doesn't that way.
Thanks for any responses.
Probably they changed the whole screen.
Most tablet manufacturers will just replace the tablet. Because of the amount of time it will take. Unless someone actually works for the warehouse issuing out Nexus 7 replacements you will not get a solid answer. Just check the serial number when you get your Nexus 7 back.

Some folks are touchy about them. If the company actually goes through the returned units and really does refurbish them, they can be better than new. Unfortunately, a lot of companies like to power them up, see that something is displayed and call them "refurbished". Dunno where ASUS fails in that spectrum...

No. There's no knowing 'for sure' unless they tell you (and even then).
There's no stated policy concerning it, so it's entirely case by case.
If you send a unit for repair, be sure to record the serial #.
That's the only way you'll know for certain.
The refurbished ones are generally indistinguishable from new.
Most places will send a refurbished unit unless there are absolutely no refurbished ones available.
Last month I sent my 2012 32GB N7 back to ASUS for warranty repair. I had been living with bad external speakers for a couple months. While transitioning from portrait to landscape when I was watching a video the tablet froze up and started making a high pitched squealing noise. Only thing I could do is long press the power button. Long story short...a little over 2 weeks after sending the N7 away I got the same tablet back with new speakers.
What a fail company Asus is...
Got my tablet back with "TEST OK/NO TROUBLE FOUND" so they call 7 dead pixels NO TROUBLE FOUND?? They pulled this **** on my before with the Prime so they are in for another discussion... WTF do they employ monkeys there??
I got my Nexus 7 back from repair yesterday and is not the same unit I sent in. I can't tell if it is a refurbished unit or new but either way I'm happy it's a different one.... for now.
