Charging Issues - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As the title says my friends daughter jammed the wrong plug in the port. So now it won't even charge I been looking around for a replacement part but can't seem to find one. Does anyone know where I can get that piece since it's a brand new tablet.
Thanks

You can check sticky's tutorial guide of how to take apart your dash http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=525869 if you want to literally see how you can remove your USB. But if you want anyother info you should be more specific in what help you are seeking in this forum.

My phone is the same way I believe it has to do with the connector coming loose. The way I fixed this is by holding the phone by the usb connector when plugged in instead of the phone. I hold the USB cable right by the the part you plug in and the weight of the phone will usually balance out and it will connect. My phone is very touchy also let me know if this has helped.

You can look in ebay

[Q] eBay OTG cable not working.

I bought one of these: HERE
It doesn't work, so I'm wondering if any one has experience with this cable, it says it's an OTG but I get no power from it.
Does anyone have any ideas?
I tried to plug in several things like my PS3 controller and a HDD but nothing.
I'm wondering if the pin that is supposed to be shorted to ground is on the mini end and not the micro end like we want it to be.
Otherwise I wonder if I I can modify it work rather than send it back?

Send me your tablet cause you have no idea how it works. No 3.1 means no USB host driver support for thoese devices. The kernel has no idea what the devices are or for what

I lol'd at these two getting owned
But anyway I built my own usingthis and a usb extension. Followed this instructions. So my guess is that the cable you have doesn't have the 5th pin (brown wire) grounded. I butchered a regular micro usb cable just to find out it didn't have the brown wire at all.
Hope this helps!

This is my guess also, but the eBay guy as you can see clearly sells it as an OTG cable. I have been in touch and he says his supplier says it's an OTG but he doesn't have the technical expertise to understand, let alone advise.
I guess the solution is as you say, I went to the workshop, and even tried the local electronics store and it seems you can't buy the micro-usb plug as an individual component so butchering other stuff seems to be the solution.
As for the tutorial, thanks, but I shouldn't need it, otherwise I should probably send back the certificate for my degree in Electronic Engineering that's on my wall, cause I really wouldn't have earned it

Yeh, It does look nice and neat, that's why I ordered that one, if I get the time I'll make some myself and just give them out to people I like on XDA. Just need to find the micro plug, mini plug is easy to get hold of.

Well, the iGo is no good, because they probably don't have the data lines connected, as it's for charging.
The one in your next post on eBay won't fit if it's an CA-157 substitute, I got hte real Nokia CA-157 and the connector is squared off at the end, picture: HERE
however, I did get a file to the end of my CA-157 and filed it to fit, and YES it works (taking a picture now)..... attached.
The cable you linked to on ebay is just a micro usb to a mini usb, an OTG cable is a Micro male to USB female.
4 bucks free shipping: Ebay
Spend 4 more dollars and get one with a cool blinky LED in it:

This ist a very good information and now I have the same cable as you working perfectly for me! In the first place I ordered the cable in the believe it would fit anyways but after receiving it yesterday I had to face the fact that there is an A and B standard of the micro usb plug. Your tip has saved me money, thanks for that!

No problem. I have this and the cable from my OP now working too. I opened it up and found the ID pin was not connected so I soldered it to ground and that works now. SO I have a direct cable for my HDD and a female USB (the filed Ca-157) for other stuff.

USB Port Pushed In, What Can I Do?

I have a GSM Galaxy Nexus I bought used (so no warranty), and somehow the USB port got pushed in. This makes it hard to charge since the cables don't really make contact anymore. I can still charge it but I have to plug the cable in like 6 times until it finally makes contact to charge. So my question is, what can I do? Since its used I don't think it has any kind of warranty so I guess that's out of the question. If I opened up the phone to expose the motherboard, could I re-position the USB port to its correct position? What would you do if you were in my situation?

Here's a link showing how to repair it. It's for VZW gnex but should be similar.
http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repairi...zon-LTE-Micro-USB-Charge-Port-Main-Mic/9641/1
I would just get a spare battery and external charger and swap the batteries every morning. Im not too much of a soldering kind of guy so if you are, then best of luck opening it up and seeing what the problem is. You can also take it to a local repair shop or mail it into an online repair store and dont think the cost will be more than 40-50 dollars. But good luck and hope it doesnt get anymore damaged.

[Q] Micro port on phone

I think I damaged my port on my phone that I used to charge with. My phone still charges but I have to be careful as if I move it some it stops charging. I have tried a different cable so I know it the port on my phone. Any ideas? I think maybe its a bit bent inside or something
The 3 pins by the right side of your phone. Idea?
Head down to the accessory sub forum and look for the pogo dock thread, you can easily DIY your own dock
Regarding the USB port, you can order a replacement from evilBay.
Beamed from my Maguro.

But how hard is it to replace the usb port?
I've replaced mine but it's a delicate procedure. Don't get rough with anything. Ifixit has a tutorial. I already had the plastic tools from my old iPod video days to change battery.

Did need to replace it. The pin inside was bent a little and all it need was to be bent back. Problemed solved
Hi all, I recently had my USB port fail as well, and when cleaning it did not work, I got a new one off the internet and installed it today.
I can't post links, but I followed the ifixit guide, and also the Youtube video entitled "Galaxy Nexus Screen Repair and Charging Port Fix."
Everything seemed to go smoothly, but now the phone won't turn on, or even show anything when I plug it in. I took it all apart and did it again with the same result. I know that doesn't give you much, but any idea where I might have gone wrong, and how I might be able to fix it?
Thanks.

I had that issue and ended up replacing the USB port. Which fixed the issue. It also wouldn't dash charge for me unless I really messed with it.

Yeah. $4.25 for the part, $25 for shipping and $13 for the tools (needed a new set anyway) and it took a out an hour but that was because this was the first one plus device I had opened.

It was the shipping from china that caused it. Part of living in the states.
The tools were needed for other projects so the free tools just didnt cut it. Due to my past jobs all my repairs have to be professional quality and nothing less.
