[Q] Problem with my Galaxy Tab 3 8" freezing - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Tab 3 8" locks and freezes - often. The screen will not respond to swipes (usually it's stuck on the lock screen) and I can't shut it down. I can press the power button, the 'shut down'/'restart' dialogue appears, but doesn't register my touch or swipes. I can pull down the status bar at the top - but, again, it doesn't let me do anything.
One thing I have noticed is that the information in the status bar disappears, except for the power and the wifi indicators. when I see the clock disappear I know straight away it's game over. Sometimes, the clock comes back after a while and all is well, but most of the time it will just stay locked.
Interestingly, since I removed the SD card it hasn't happened, but that was only a couple of hours ago... but, of course, I want to use an SD card, so...
Any ideas? I've done a Factory Reset, and the problem still occurs. It's very frustrating.

[Q] Anyone else have their phone freak out when typing a text?

I was typing out a text today (normal mode, not landscape) and out of nowhere the screen faded out and went to the lock screen. What was even more peculiar was that I had no option to unlock the phone; when I tried to swipe my finger where the unlock button should be, the screen dimmed and the letters for the time turned blue while the other stuff (signal, battery, etc) disappeared from the screen.
When I hit the home button I was able to get back into the phone, however it faded back to whatever mock lock screen was there before. The second time I hit the home button it let me get back to the text and finish it.
Has anyone else had a similar issue? I've unlocked my bootloader, rooted, and have flashed several different radios (currently on ugkl1, stock was xxkk6).

Click to collapse
I have not had that happen...I am unlocked, rooted, and running a custom rom and kernel. The only thing i did not switch is the radio...So may be what is causing it?
I reset the radio to XXKK6 just for safe measure.
Anyone else seen this issue?
I had weird problems with typing messages in Handcent with weird lag and even force closes on 4.0.2. Have not had these problems on 4.0.4.
So, as it turns out, this problem was cause by my own stupidity...
What was happening as that, in a very small amount of time, my thumb hit the task manager button, and the Clock app was the one that was right under my thumb, which was subsequently selected. For some reason, if you start Clock and try to swipe your finger, the screen dims.
So, total false alarm. Move along, nothing to see here.

[Q] Dropdown menu slow to appear when USB connected to PC ?

Hi there,
Yesterday I experienced the first crash on my S4 mini (GT-I9195 bought 2 weeks ago): it gradually came to a halt, where it was no longer possible to "wake" it by pressing the power button.
So, I resetted it by pressing the power button for 7 seconds, and everything went well after that. But I noticed something that I hadn't noticed before (though it may well have existed before the crash itself): when connected to my PC via the USB cable, the dropdown menu is sometimes (not always) very slow to appear. This does not happen when charging via the AC plug so I guess it is somehow related to the fact that some kind of communication is also taking place (MTP or PTP mode) between the phone and the PC.
What I mean is: bascically, the dropdown menu is "triggered" by placing your finger at the top of the screen, then you can pull it down by swiping. Usually, you don't even realise that it first has to be triggered. It is so quick that you get the impression you can immediately swipe the screen to pull the menu down.
However, when connected to a PC via USB, it can take up to a second for the menu to appear, so if you swipe too quicky, your finger exits the "triggering zone" too quickly and the dropdown menu simply does not appear. The "triggering" time seems to be longer just after you have "woken up" the phone by pressing the power button. It looks as if the phone "polled" the screen less often... If you pull the menu down several times in a row, this triggering time also seems to lower after a few swipes.
Has anyone else experienced that, and is it "normal" according to you ?
Thanks a lot !

Problem with notification bar pullong down randomly

Hey there
Had the phone since release
Started with this problem yesterday. It's random, the notification bar pulls down and pulls back up within a second. Sometimes it doesn't release, I have to press power button to enable me to use the phone.
I switched on "show taps" in developer options, and it appears to be a screen press from the top centre of the phone. Only from there.
I've tried replacing the screen protector, tried cleaning the phone, power cycles... I've not tried a factory reset at this point, would need to back everything up.
On 8.1
I'm at my wits end
Thanks in advance
Do you have a case installed? Sometimes phone cases trigger phantom touches on the display.
I do, since day one.
Took it off and still get same problem
I'd use a screen capture app to show the phantom touches that's keeping you from releasing the notification bar and contact Support at this point. But yeah, you should begin backing up your data.
try to use the developer menu -> show touches and see if it's software or hardware related
....actually i have been getting random, backspaces key presses.....i am typing away, and than I will sense the "phantom" key press the backspace, and look as my message get completely deleted. Never happened before, same case/same screen protector from DAY1....I just restart my phone, but still wear. happened twice since OREO update
Boot into safe mode and then turn off and start up.
Fixed my menu bar issues.

Partial boot, status bar loads half-way, rest of screen black, shuts off after a min

Hi all,
I got this M5 that's been giving out warnings about memory being full and I suppose it finally gave in. It only partially boots after like a full minute of showing you those blue waves. When it 'boots' the screen is black and nothing works, except you can see the status bar with just the battery icon, no-SIM icon and the clock.
Now the weird thing is, when the device is powered off, when you press the power button once, a large battery indicator appears on the screen, and shows the normal percentage-- I've seen this go up from 0 to over 90 something incrementally.
But when it's 'on' the way I just described, the battery is always at 0% with a red ! next to it.
Anyway, when it's in this weird half-life mode, you can actually pull down the notification bar normally, and tap stuff as well. Flashlight works, you can see an actual WiFi list (nothing happens when you connect) etc. When you launch stuff through here though, like settings, it won't open anything. It'll make the sound as if it's launched something but the remainder of the screen will still be black.
Stuff I've already tried:
- Safe mode (volume down + power), just 'boots normally'
- Recovery mode (volume up + power) done that for over two minutes, does nothing or just 'boots normally'
- Hold down the tiny yellow 'off' button under the SIM/SD cover, did nothing.
- Xperia Companion: PC won't recognize the phone either in that zombie state, or when it's off, so I tried 'device cannot be detected', shut phone down, held down volume down button, connected USB still holding down, waited for a while and viola, nothing happened.
It's factory OS, never messed around with it and I don't know the version (could be 5?).
Any ideas?
EDIT: Using the dedicated camera button, I can access the camera. It works (sort of), meaning you can see the camera display where the screen used to be black. And it immediately says "system process is not responding," so I'm guessing this is a system issue where it can't load basic stuff like the homescreen?
EDIT 2: BUMP

P600 Black screen, but android still runs(?)

Okay, so here's the issue:
My P600 starts normally, but I end up with a black screen (not the regular one caused by the LCD cable being loose). Not really sure when it started, parents say it's been like this for a day now. All I see is:
-The top bar (with time, audio/vibrate setting, Wi-FI signal and battery)
-The drop down menu
-I can start S voice
-I can see all the apps I launch by pressing the icon in the drop down menu (by holding the middle button, as you normally do)
The screen reacts fully, I can roll up the drop down menu and shut down the apps by moving my finger across the screen.
It throws out the "Process system isn't responding" error every once in a while.
The lock screen flashes through very briefly when I go back from the "all launched apps" menu (not really sure how to call it).
Steps I tried:
Restart
Wipe cache partition
Connecting to a PC doesn't do anything
System(Android) is fully stock, and was probably updated (not sure what was the last update Samsung put out).
Factory reset(or flashing a new android) is the last thing I want to try, thanks.
