[Q] Dropdown menu slow to appear when USB connected to PC ? - Galaxy S 4 Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
Yesterday I experienced the first crash on my S4 mini (GT-I9195 bought 2 weeks ago): it gradually came to a halt, where it was no longer possible to "wake" it by pressing the power button.
So, I resetted it by pressing the power button for 7 seconds, and everything went well after that. But I noticed something that I hadn't noticed before (though it may well have existed before the crash itself): when connected to my PC via the USB cable, the dropdown menu is sometimes (not always) very slow to appear. This does not happen when charging via the AC plug so I guess it is somehow related to the fact that some kind of communication is also taking place (MTP or PTP mode) between the phone and the PC.
What I mean is: bascically, the dropdown menu is "triggered" by placing your finger at the top of the screen, then you can pull it down by swiping. Usually, you don't even realise that it first has to be triggered. It is so quick that you get the impression you can immediately swipe the screen to pull the menu down.
However, when connected to a PC via USB, it can take up to a second for the menu to appear, so if you swipe too quicky, your finger exits the "triggering zone" too quickly and the dropdown menu simply does not appear. The "triggering" time seems to be longer just after you have "woken up" the phone by pressing the power button. It looks as if the phone "polled" the screen less often... If you pull the menu down several times in a row, this triggering time also seems to lower after a few swipes.
Has anyone else experienced that, and is it "normal" according to you ?
Thanks a lot !

Problem..Volume itself goes up. Please Help

I have a MDA 3. I am facing following problem..
- Can't power it off. Power buttom only works on powering on, but not on powering off.
- At the same time, the volume window pops up (with two volume sliders, "on", "vibrate", and "off), and the left slider automatically slides up on its own, preventing me from accessing anything else. When I try to do something else, go to Programs, or else, this freaking Volume window keeps popping up, and left slider keeps going up and stays up there.
When I try to decrease volume, it keeps going up right after I decrease it. And the volume window is almost constantly popped up.
From time to time, it disappears, allowing me to do something for several seconds or even minutes, but then pops up again.
Yesterday, I even managed to do something for several minutes without it, and even managed to turn MDA off, although I had to press the button for a second longer than usual to turn it off. Today, no luck, can't power it off. If I press it for a bit longer, it just goes in "dimmed" screen mode, but stays powered on.
If HR does not help, 90% chance that you have some hardware problem - stuck key, short circuit or broken connection from keys to the mainboard.

[Q] IceColdSandwich unlock screen returns to wrong activity.

Hi
I have IceColdSandwich installed , version 7.4, with full wipe performed, as it was advised.
it is working great, although today I noticed one strange behavior.
I was in the middle of developing, so phone was charged, but still connected to PC with usb cable. I switched on mass storage, copied some files, switched off mass storage and then via home button to home screen. then I did test my application, and after timeout screen got locked. up to now ok. now when I press power button, screen blinks with animation during turning off, then after next press on power button I got returned to the screen, where I can turn on mass storage, although I have left that screen long time ago.
anyone has similar issues?
Thanks a lot, Marek
Think the first part of you problem you will find in Settings>ROM Control>General UI>CRT Off Animition (Untick it)
And the second might be, is you have have USB Debugging Off, and every time you connect by USB it will automatic take you to the "Mount Screen" which annoys the hell out of me so to solve this i leave "USB Debugging ON" Find this in Settings>Developer Options.

Lots of faults after update I believe.

Hi all.
I've looked on xda and the Internet for the last few weeks but haven't been able to find anything to help.
About six weeks ago the problems started I think after an update to the o/'s.
To turn the tablet on I have to hold the power button on then the battery symbol is shown if at this point I push the home button then the battery symbol shows its charging even though it's not got ant USB plugged in. Then I have to hold the poem button again to turn it off then holding the power button in for a 3rd time the tablet boots up into android and I'm able to use it. When the tablet is on with nothing plugged into the USB port if I push the home button the tablet beeps and then shows the charge symbol. Push the home button again and it removes the charge symbol.
When a cable is plugged in charging then I get a red cross over the battery symbol when I push the home button. Push the home button again and the red cross disappears.
The only info I can find says change the internal USB ribbon and/or the battery. Which I've done both and still the same.
I was thinking of reinstalling the original rom but I cannot get it to fire up in the correct mode as it won't recognise the volume button on start up.
Any help would be great. Thanks
USB port may be faulty or loose I reckon

Problem with notification bar pullong down randomly

Hey there
Had the phone since release
Started with this problem yesterday. It's random, the notification bar pulls down and pulls back up within a second. Sometimes it doesn't release, I have to press power button to enable me to use the phone.
I switched on "show taps" in developer options, and it appears to be a screen press from the top centre of the phone. Only from there.
I've tried replacing the screen protector, tried cleaning the phone, power cycles... I've not tried a factory reset at this point, would need to back everything up.
On 8.1
I'm at my wits end
Thanks in advance
Do you have a case installed? Sometimes phone cases trigger phantom touches on the display.
I do, since day one.
Took it off and still get same problem
I'd use a screen capture app to show the phantom touches that's keeping you from releasing the notification bar and contact Support at this point. But yeah, you should begin backing up your data.
try to use the developer menu -> show touches and see if it's software or hardware related
....actually i have been getting random, backspaces key presses.....i am typing away, and than I will sense the "phantom" key press the backspace, and look as my message get completely deleted. Never happened before, same case/same screen protector from DAY1....I just restart my phone, but still wear. happened twice since OREO update
Boot into safe mode and then turn off and start up.
Fixed my menu bar issues.

Partial boot, status bar loads half-way, rest of screen black, shuts off after a min

Hi all,
I got this M5 that's been giving out warnings about memory being full and I suppose it finally gave in. It only partially boots after like a full minute of showing you those blue waves. When it 'boots' the screen is black and nothing works, except you can see the status bar with just the battery icon, no-SIM icon and the clock.
Now the weird thing is, when the device is powered off, when you press the power button once, a large battery indicator appears on the screen, and shows the normal percentage-- I've seen this go up from 0 to over 90 something incrementally.
But when it's 'on' the way I just described, the battery is always at 0% with a red ! next to it.
Anyway, when it's in this weird half-life mode, you can actually pull down the notification bar normally, and tap stuff as well. Flashlight works, you can see an actual WiFi list (nothing happens when you connect) etc. When you launch stuff through here though, like settings, it won't open anything. It'll make the sound as if it's launched something but the remainder of the screen will still be black.
Stuff I've already tried:
- Safe mode (volume down + power), just 'boots normally'
- Recovery mode (volume up + power) done that for over two minutes, does nothing or just 'boots normally'
- Hold down the tiny yellow 'off' button under the SIM/SD cover, did nothing.
- Xperia Companion: PC won't recognize the phone either in that zombie state, or when it's off, so I tried 'device cannot be detected', shut phone down, held down volume down button, connected USB still holding down, waited for a while and viola, nothing happened.
It's factory OS, never messed around with it and I don't know the version (could be 5?).
Any ideas?
EDIT: Using the dedicated camera button, I can access the camera. It works (sort of), meaning you can see the camera display where the screen used to be black. And it immediately says "system process is not responding," so I'm guessing this is a system issue where it can't load basic stuff like the homescreen?
EDIT 2: BUMP
