I got my hands on both of these cases and did a quick review if anyones interested. I have to say im impressed with the official flip case, its the one i use on a daily basis atm.

that is great, i was on the fence with the flip cover for a bit, thank you for going the extra bit and getting both!
I had the craziest of ideas but do you think with a little bit of patience and modding that you would be able to put a slice in the gel case and slip the back cover of the flip case through it and use both?
I am not sure when ill next be able to buy another phone seeing as this one started WWIII at my house and i think i may need to really baby it, i also think if its possible we might be able to use the gel case somehow to hold the flap down, tiny magnets, who knows, im just curious if you think this is possible
Flip Case is great, works like a dream and it's raised case protects the Camera Lens, unlike the factory fitted back, one slight issue is that the Note will not slip into the 'Official' car mount when it is in the Flip case. You can snip a bit from the case to help but due to the extra width (... ;-) ) it stands proud on the one edge.
Samsung naughty designers...

Ha, I actually tried this but must have forgot to mention it in the review. No modding required it does fit in. The case warps very very slightly on the left side where the flip case joint is, but it works reasonably well though!
Not sure about holding the flap down, but it only slightly lifts itself up, it sometimes lifts very high, but just pressing it down is enough to keep it down
I am thinking about using both cases togather , would you send a picture please for using them togather ?
Been using my flip case for a couple of days. I wasn't sure at first but love it now.
Feels like part of the phone.

+1 to this and also do you like your gel case enough that if you were to buy another it would be that one again or take your chances on one of the other gel cases out there? thanks for trying the two cases together too, im too broke to risk it not working.

I'm thinking of just cutting the front flap and glue the side leather on top of the gel cover's side, close to the back cover's side, so it will have full range of motion. Reuse the original backcover for better fit. Then just a tiny velcro patch on the other side to keep it closed.

I don't think so, to be honest I'm not really a fan of gel cases anyway so I wouldn't buy any. Flexishield ones are the most popular gel ones tho

Good idea, its better to keep the full range, because I would hate the flip cover if it didn't flip all the way around.

been using the flip case for about nearly a month now in tropical weather, and the edges of the flip top have "melted" and become sticky. ugh!

I have a Poetic case that looks just like that. The cover won't lie flat when you fold it behind the tablet. It is driving me nuts.
I have a Poetic case on order that is like the iPad smart cover. I hope it works better than this one.
Does your case fold back flat against the back?

I have the blurex also and the front cover does fold flat against the back cover. Of course it won't lay flat on the table because of the clasp, which is facing the table in that position, however the front and back covers are flat against each other.

Actually they aren't. I have both cases.
Both are excellent cases IMO.
The MoKo is slightly larger in all dimensions, maybe 10-15mm. The Blurex just feels slimmer and stealthier as a result, however the MoKo has better coverage on the edges with less exposure.
The MoKo is heavier than the Blurex making it feel a little bit sturdier.
The Blurex first tilt position allows the tablet to be more vertical since the slot starts immediately at the end of the handhold. The MoKo first slot starts around 3/4" after the hand hold.
The material in the MoKo is soft-touch and the Blurex is more traditional grained.
Like I said, both are great cases. If I just saw them side-by-side, I would probably choose the MoKo, but after using them a few days, I prefer the lighter thinner Blurex especially when I started using the tilt feature, where the more vertical position resulted in a better angle for where I was using it.

Thanks for the clarification. I had a Blurex for the 2012 N7, and does seem a small bit thinner. Either way, it's nice to have some cheap but good cases to choose from.

i also purchased the blurex and mine looks different. It has the same problem as the Poetic as the front does not fold flat against the back. it also did not come with the strap. I'm sending it back in favor of the moko ultra slim.
This makes me wonder who the true manufacturer of all these cases is.
The Moko does fold flat against the back, fyi.

The hit or miss part is on the tablet/software side, which is causing the issues.

It is possible, I used to work around it by turning on Bluetooth, but now I just remember the first time in the morning I need to use the power button, then after that it is ok the rest of the day.
I know the issue is in software so it'll probably get fixed one day and if not, I am not going to lose any sleep over it.

The official Premium Case or Poetic Slimline case are probably the closest you'll get. The latter is my preference.
I'm surprised no manufacturer has worked out a way to adhesively attach a screen cover like the Slimline's onto the edge of the tablet, you'd just need a moulded plastic strip to run down the left edge of the machine covered with some non-permanent adhesive a la the Dodocase that the actual cover was attached to. Then you'd have something that works a bit like the iPad smartcase without the magnets.

The poetic slimline is still too bulky for me. It essentially triples the thickness with that extra back layer plus it hides skins.
I too am surprised; it seems fairly straightforward to make...

Thats a pretty good idea. The only thing could be tricky is the magnets hold the cover down on the iPad.
This is the only case I've seen which has a "transparent" back.
I've not seen it in the flesh, so I don't how how good they are, or if they can be shipped overseas.

It seems more white or translucent than clear. Are there any cases out there that just cover the front? (Like a keyboard case just without the keyboard so it's essentially just a plastic cover) Or maybe something like what Logitech has for their keyboards where it covers the device but when removed can act as a stand.

Not to mention that Apple patented the magnetic latching mechanism that holds the cover on, so any other cover like that (with no back) would need to either find an alternative method (like the adhesive mentioned above) or license the technology from Apple. Or just do it and wait to get sued...
I bought the rooCASE Origami case from Amazon - http://www.amazon.com/rooCASE-Google-Tablet-Origami-SlimShell/dp/B00ET9H588
It's thin enough and functions very much like the iPad Smart Cover, with the additional benefit of allowing the N7 to stand on portrait mode.
The biggest problem: for landscape mode, where you fold the front cover just like the iPad, the magnet in the front cover WILL turn OFF the Nexus 7. I asked for a replacment form the seller (she said it's defective), but the replacement did the same thing.
Got my silver aluminum bumper from AliExpress today and it looks great for the price. When I came back from lunch with my boss, this thing was waiting for me in my mail box. It was extremely well packaged from China and you can tell the package was beat up in it's week's journey. Shipping to me in TX from China only took a week and that is extremely fast for me. I was expecting a two week delivery time.
To the case: To quell any questions on call quality; I have placed one call with the bumper on since I installed it. And it works. No noticeable drops that I can initially tell. I'll update if anything changes.
My bumper came with a generic N5 screen protector, which I will not use, because I already have a spigen one installed. I proceeded in taking the included bag which had a philips type of screw driver and upon further inspection, the bag also have a few spare screws, which is always welcomed IMO.
I removed my tpu bumper and slapped this one on immediately. I first came across the bumper looking like it may not fit due to my dbrand cf skin. Being a bit thick, I was a bit worried. But with a little more wrapping the case closer to the outer bezel, the screw openings aligned up better than before. The reason is because of the little foam pads on the interior. Once you work it down a bit, you should be able to screw in the teeeny tiny screws with the included screwdriver.
Will it work on my orb charger? Yes! It holds up as I thought it would.
Does the little screw tab that reminds me of Florida really bad looking? No, when looking at the phone at its entirety, I honestly can say, I like it.
Does it protect the back camera? Uhhhh that's a no. There are ridges on the bottom of the micro USB port and where the headphone port is, but it is not enough to keep the camera lens to sit on the table. This will detract quite a few people. But keep in mind, this is a MINIMALIST case, not a Seidio or Otterbox or whatever bomb proof case that's out there now lol. All the openings are nice and big, except for the headphone port. If you have anything like a Shure E215 plug, you will need to use an adapter to extend the port or use another headset/headphone all together. Another issue, I kinda dislike is the opening for the power button. You have to really search for the button because of it being a cut out compared to buttons on top. I just got to get used to that feeling.
However saying that, I am 100% comfortable placing my phone flat down because I have a dbrand carbon fiber skin on my Nexus 5 backside.
Another bonus is that this aluminum bumper fits in my Seidio Dilex Holster for the Nexus 5 without any issue. The little tab on the bottom plays nice and I am one happy camper. :highfive:
Do I recommend this? For now I say yes aesthetic wise. Everything seems to work thus far so I really don't have anything too bad to say about it.
Pros:
It's thin
Aluminum color is sleek and sexy with my cf white dbrands skin
Ok with wireless charging orb (will test out Tylt Vu later on as well as the Nexus Wireless charger in my truck)
Cons:
It's thin
This bumper will not protect the camera lens when laying it on it's backside.
The lil "Florida" tab where the screws are. Even though not a dealbreaker for me, it's still a slight 'con' in my book.
Pics below. Please let me know if you have any questions. I'll field them if I am not working

Yes I have used the Nexus wireless charger. I have it installed in my truck in conjunction of a Kenu Airframe that mounts to the vents. It clears Kenu Airframe so that the magnets can catch without much issue. And bumpy Texas roads and highways are no match thus far. But don't go off roading lol.

Not too good with measurements with that size, I'll try lol. To me and my ruler, it looks like 6mm? I'll attach a pic.
Reporting on a half day of full use of the Aluminum bumper. I really do like the look of it and fits in my Seidio Dilex holster securely. However, I have to report in that if one has a dbrands back like me, I have a white carbon fiber back, it may bubble up a bit depending on how you put on your back and if you used a blow dryer on the edges like dbrand suggested. I did do that, but I did find a slight bubble/rise on the corner where the screws go in. Also, you can see that the bumper does not fully wrap around like a tpu would because, this is really not that flexible. I'll post some pics and hopefully you can see what my OCD eyes can see. As for the lil bubble, I'll need to do a follow up blow dryer event when I go home for lunch and see if that makes it go away or not. Not really all concerned with the bubble, I can hardly see it and I can learn to live with it if it doesn't go away lol.

Have you done any speed tests with and without it.
I mentioned in another thread that I had one on an iPhone and it did not do well, but the iPhone antenna is around the device, different than the Nex 5.

No I haven't done speedtests on it. But I am getting full bars LTE right outside my office, which is pretty much on par with what I normally get. I have to admit, I do think it affects the antenna slightly, but not to the point of dropped calls. However, I do not have anything to back up this theory.
I'll report back later on to see if my wife said she called me and I didn't answer or what have you.

Because you asked and I don't feel like working on my next project right now lol...
Without the bumper on, the phone went to lowest LTE at -112dBm
With bumper on, the phone went to H and jumps here and there, but didn't stick and settled on 3g (or UMTS) at -101dBm.
So my initial feelings are correct that it does hinder reception but I am still connected. Well in the office anyway. But I used my phone at lunch with co workers without issue. I was getting emails and notifications while I was out.
unfortunately, I barely get signal in my office so I can't really get this :/ I wish there was a good looking bumper that has same look/feel as this one but made of a different material that would not jeopardize the signal quality.

No not so much, but after my first Seidio Holster broke, I have been running it naked and got used to its slim design. This was minimal bulk that still showed off the back dbrand skin goodness and also helps with any corner bumps. Which I have to say it did do its job the other day when I knocked it off my charger in my truck.

I have to add, which I didn't in the OP, is that I did add a bit more for a tracking number. I think the extra shipping cost less than 3 bucks.
I was wondering if anyone had thoughts or has even tried these types of car mounts.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nexcon-Magn...lde-/221655676812?hash=item339bb5378c&vxp=mtr
Its magnetic so I was wondering if people thought our Nexus 5 would work with it without the metal plate they supply. Seeing as the Nexus 5 has magnets in it's back I would think the only question is if the magnets used are attracted to the ones in the Nexus 5 and the placement of the magnets. I may get one to try out but I wanted to see people's thoughts anyway.
Well as far as I am informed and seen, inside your nexus 5 are metal discs not magnets, the magnets comes in the original nexus 5 wireless charger. Hope this make it more clear, and I think they made it a bit vague so you would get it then they would simply tells you to get their magmatic cover !!!

I wasn't sure if inside the Nexus 5 are magnets or, as you say, metal disks. I know my old Palm Pre had magnets in the back of the phone for it's TouchStone charger. I actually have two of those. And the Nexus 5 actually connects with that really well. Almost like it was made for it. If these docks are similar to what the TouchStone charger is as far as magnet placement, it should work really well without that metal plate they give you. But the plate does come with it to use with a phone case just in case. So I may just put down the 10 bucks or so and see how it goes.
Cool let me know what turns out, I may kick one too off ebay
I have this one in my car http://www.amazon.com/InfiniApps-Smartphones-Cradle-less-Quick-snap-technology/dp/B00DPMNNUO/ref=sr_1_38?ie=UTF8&qid=1427845784&sr=8-38&keywords=magnetic+car+mount
It works very well, and the phone stays locked in place. It attaches to the 4 metal plates in the back cover of the Nexus 5 meant for the official Qi charger. You can't use a case though, or the magnets won't be strong enough to hold. If you do use a case (thin TPU or thin hard case only) then you will need the metal plate insert for it to work. But even still, the phone sticks way better without a case. It sticks best in vertical position, if you do landscape it needs to be centered perfectly or it will start to twist back to vertical over big bumps, it won't come off, but it will turn.
I use an nGroove Snap (http://www.amazon.com/Mountek-nGroove-Magnetic-Smartphones-Tablets/dp/B00HMDYH2U) and it works just fine even without the metal plate.

Good to know that these do in fact work without those metal plates. I thought they'd might but thanks for confirming it. I don't use a case so it should be perfect for me. I'll definitely be getting one now.
Made my own car charger. Too bad my Spigen case is too thick, so can't use it. Or I just have to risk breaking my phone by not using the case..... Dilemma...
I use kenu airframe + google Nexus qi charger = perfect solution.
I ended up buying this one and it works perfectly.

Do you need to use the included magnetic stickers? Or will it lock to the magnets inside the phone?

Nope. It works as is. And it works nicely too. If the next Nexus doesn't have magnets, I'm going to be sad.
I have another mount, I believe it's called "iMagnet" which is almost identical. After using it for the past year with my nexus 5, I have some gripes about it. It's not an incredibly solid grip, which means every bump is going to make your phone start rotating one way or the other. I like to place my phone in landscape mode but since it's in landscape mode, the phone will twist on the mount until it's touching the dash. I'll periodically move the phone back to the center of the mount while I'm driving which probably isn't safe. Ive used my phone with cases, without cases, with dbrand skins, without. The official Google "bumper" and my spigen neo hybrid are both too thick for the mount to have a good hold, so it really slides all over the place. Using a skin, doesn't affect it too much though. If I were to get another car mount I wouldn't get one of these. It's not horrible, but it just gets annoying.

I think you'll be happy with it
I have one, and I love it. I've got one of the slim Spigen cases and I put one of the metal plates between the phone and the case. I had to play with the position to make sure I could still use NFC, Qi charging, and GPS worked fine.
Now I feel super confident in my purchase. Thanks guys!
I've been happy with this one from amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00V54LQO4?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00 only $10.99.

I just received it in the mail, and the build quality seems pretty good. I just had neck surgery the other day, so I won't be able to use it for at least a few weeks. I can't wait to try it out!
