[Q] Returning to 4.1 - HTC One X

So I want to go back to 4.1.. I flashed 4.2 the non conventional way (unlocked bootloader, flashed rom, flashed boot.img)...
So i'm assuming to go back to 4.1 is the same procedure right? just like flashing a custom rom?

True, if you want to flash custom 4.1 ROM, and if your hboot is not updated to 1.7x
If you want to return to stock, go visit nandroid collection thread. There is a solution for you.
If you updated hboot to 1.7x, I don't think you can revert to 4.1. Android.

Thanks, i don't think i updated the hboot

if hboot is 1.7x you need a 4.1 rom with at least 3.18 base, or touch won't work...

i've read somewhere that it's possible, but i've never tried... my hboot is 1.39

I also didn't bother updating to official 4.2.2, as there was no real benefit out of it (hboot 1.36, methinks )

For downgrade you should use RUU..

Nope because a ruu can't downgrade s-on devices. Only a nandroid backup can be used. And even those have to fit all the right criteria otherwise the touchscreen won't work

bogfather, thanks for the info. I was also searching for this kind of info, as my HOX is rooted and has a custom ROM in it (RENOVATE 3), which works like a charm.
I wanted to have as a backup solution option to return to stock eventually. Read so many threads on XDA, but still not entirely sure about the process (total n o o b).
cidgetter in the top of the screen says: [CID is: ]: [VODAP102]. I guess it was Vodaphone branded phone, so somebody rooted it to get rid of the Vodaphone stuff.
Question - if I want to get back to stock, do I have to use Vodaphone ROM, or I can use any stock ROM?
Cheers!
I saw his other post. He is on custom rom and doesn't have an original backup of stock rom, neither does he know the original rom version.
EDIT CIDGetter doesn't return anything on my cm10 rom. Use "fastboot oem readcid" from your PC while the phone is in fastboot USB mode.
EDIT2: @bogfather I seem to be dropping in uninvited. I hope you dont mind.

Are you referring to Toto, or me, 'cause you exactly described my case - custom ROM, without original backup of stock ROM, not knowing the original ROM version.
What are the options in case I decide to revert to some (not Vodaphone) stock ROM?

I was referring to toto. AFAIK (and someone correct me if I am wrong), you have to return to VODA102 if you decide to go back to stock. RUU's read info from the bootloader, such as hboot version, cid etc. and do some checks before they proceed with installation. Unless you disable those checks in the RUU script itself, other RUUs will probably not flash.
Your other options would be installing ARHD, or maXimus ROM since they are the closest to stock there is. There is also a deodexed stock rom by showp under android dev section.
I see.
Thanks for the explanation, mate!

NP. One more thing before you attempt to flash an RUU: You have to install a stock recovery first.

I'm in the same position... My HOX TIM IT branded has a 1.29.901.11 RUU (I think... I saw this under Software information) but I can't find it anywhere! The question is the following: If I will flash a custom ROM, like viperX, that has a higher RUU then mine, when I need to go stock, for example for the warranty, I need the stock RUU with the stock ROM, or just the stock ROM with any RUU?

The 1.29.901.11 is your software version, a ruu is the full stock Rom as if HTC were loading your phone for the first time.
Flashing a custom Rom doesn't change what ruu you will need to revert to stock, just look for a ruu with the same or higher version than what your stock software version is. Unless you have a s-off one x you will need a ruu with 901 in it (that's your cid).

But is there another way to be sure that I can revert my HOX to its stock status? For example, if I flash the viperX rom, that has 2.17.401.2, will I be able to re-flash my stock ROM, previously backuped, with that RUU?

i cant find that ruu either, if you ask in this thread someone might be able to find it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1543604
if you do a nandroid backup after flashing a custom recovery (but before rooting) you could always revert to that to get back to stock rom, but then you would need to find the stock recovery as well to help claim on warranty.
it doesn't matter what software version the custom rom is, you say your on 1.29.901.11 now so thats the only version that matters. you can downgrade from a custom rom as long as your not trying to downgrade lower than what your stock software is now

Atm, I can't post in that section, later I'll do it!
So, for having a backup of my actual ROM, I need to flash a custom recovery BEFORE doing the root hack, right? The process will be "Unlock Bootloader -> Flash a custom recovery -> Nandroid Backup -> Root -> Flash a custom ROM", right?
For the downgrade to the stock firm, I'll need the stock recovery and the stock ROM, that I previously backuped?

thats right, but you only have to root if your sticking on stock rom but want root access, if you flash a custom rom they come pre-rooted.
so it will be
1 unlock bootloader
2 flash custom recovery
3 nandroid back up
4 flash custom rom (but remember to flash the boot.img from the rom in fastboot first)

Ok, now this part is ok for me! But the only wall between me and the custom ROM is that RUU... The only thing that I haven't understood yet, is the utility of this RUU... Can I revert to stock WITHOUT this RUU, but only with my stock ROM+stock recovery? Help me to figure out the function of this RUU, please...

[Q] Return to stock JB with hboot 1.23 when RUU is here?

Hi.
I have a One X that I have rooted and I am testing ICS rom's, but none give me what I want.
I want to try the JB rom's, and my phone support this.
But if I upgrade to hboot 1.23 will I be able to go back to stock JB and lock the bootloader when the JB RUU is released? This for selling the phone with stock software.

You might not be able to flash it directly(version check, im guessing) but you can still flash its contents, and yes you can always RELOCK your bootloader.

Probably have to extract the rom.zip from the ruu, but I cant see why the ruu wouldn't just flash considering the hboot inside the ruu is just gonna be the same as the one you've flashed... But I could be wrong, I never use ruus anyway.

Hboot version

I got my One X when they first came out, rooted it straight away and have been very happy. I'm running a JB AOKP ROM.
I've noticed a lot of talk about hboot versions, 1.23/1.28. My hboot is still 0.43. Am I missing anything? Does updating the hboot actually matter?
Thanks for any information

I have almost the same question : I would like to install the "Android Revolution HD 11.1" ROM and spent few days parsing the various post in the corresponding section of the forum.
The installation procedure states that to go to JB we need to have HBOOT v1.23. In addition it is indicated that :
{Do the following only if you have hboot version 0.43.
Download this ROM. You need to flash this RUU after you relock but before you flash firmware. Your hboot version will say 1.12}

So the hboot version only affects sense roms?
ifsow what does hboot represend ?
because i dont get why would it be good for sense roms but not for non sense roms on the same device.
they have to update or fix some things in those different version right ?
at the start of last year a fix whas published for the bad battery life.
The fix whas supposed to add 10 to 20 % to battery life.
just now i saw a post from somebody asking how to do this fix and they told him it whas fixed in version 1.28 / 1.29
it whas not clear to me if they where refering to hboot version but i think they did.
i'm pretty confused about this, could you help me clarrify a bit ?

[Q] What to do if my HOX is not JB capable?

What software number is it? if you can relock your bootloader after flashing the stock recovery, try and find a RUU for the 2.17 base, android 4.0.4 with sense 4.1 is a good base to use, if you are branded, you will need to find the correct RUU then simply wait for the update

[Q] Donwgrading back to Sense 4+

After experiencing sever battery drain and WiFi issues I need to go back to 4.1.1 and Sense 4+.
My phone is rooted but still on stock ROM (4.18.401.2 but with CWM recovery and SuperSU).
I know it was discussed here in the past but I have yet to find a definitive answer:
What's my best option for downgrading?
I haven't found a nandroid for my CID (HTC_102) - Can I flash an older official RUU over my stock ROM?
If so, do I need to return to stock recovery \ flash a different Hboot (I'm on Hboot 1.72) before flashing the RUU???
I don't care about losing Root - Just want my phone in working order again.
Thanks
Enahu
You can't downgrade an S-ON hox at least not with a ruu, what you can do in order to run sense 4 is to install a custom (stock like) rom that is based on the minimal software number 3.18.401.......any lower will not work because the touchpanel drivers are updated and touch won't work

So actually you didn't downgrade because it didn't work. That's why i said that downgrading doesn't work, including a minimal software number he should use (touch panel driver update issue)

Yes that is downgrading but you can only do that with certain software numbers ! Like a 3.14 rom won't work because you cant get in the phone bcause touchscreen doesn't work.
Software from 3.17 and up have updated touch drivers so all of those will work.
