strange dotted line - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

i do have a strange dotted line at the bottom of my screen, which seems to get larger slowly.
The dotted line is shown when the device is turned on/off.
It's not in the glass, but below the glass.
I wonder if anyone has seen this before.
i tried to make an image of it.
Ralph

I have it too, not sure what caused it though!

No issue here.

The touchscreen is lifting from the tft, to which it's glued, causing air bubbles in the glue, IMO.

Me too although it doesn't bother me since it doesn't do anything to the viewing experience.

All, thank you for your replies.
I contacted Samsung support, and they informed me that it was no known issue on their devices.
If i want to have it repaired; i could sent it to Dynafix who does the repairs in my area, and they will check if it's a fabrication fault or an user fault.
I have sent the picuture to dynafix to see if they could say me something about it, though i am not sure if they will do this.
I will keep you updated.
Ralph

Ouch, dynafix..... You usually get your device back in a condition worse than when it was when sent in.

Me too
I also have those at various points along the bottom. They don't bother me enough to risk sending the tablet in for service.

Maybe answer is that; however, the seller said that these dots are originated from the people that scratch or something when i see these dots on the Screen of tablets at showroom of Samsung. But i think there is a problem. After a while i think all note 2014 will be like that. I examined all of them in different stores. Guess what. All of them has that issue.

I think you should bring your tablets to be fixed.
Also , i have a question for everyone who has that issue, are your galaxy notes 10.1 black or white ? I saw this issue only on black ones' screens. Are you using your tablets in fully brightness? Because i realized that it begins warming rapidly and more at bottom of the screen which is so close to the dotted place.

Brightness setting is in the middle. Yes I use it alot everyday for work. The screen is mostly always on and I charge it mid day in the office and still use it while charging. Sometimes the screen gets warm when being used and charged at the same time. Been using this tablet since November

Tnx for your replies,
I bought it in january. no dots observed yet. I also have black model. I dont use in charge. I use it portable way when it is not charging. I am so angry with samsung because of that issue. They had made really big mistake and they dont accept their faulty. They even dont try to fix this issue for next generations.

At first I was bothered by it.. but now not so much. Good thing the dots are on the bottom of the screen and you wont notice it when using the tablet. Yes still samsung should fix this issue

Mine is black.
I have used it while it was charging but not very often.
I purchased it new about 7 weeks ago.

I had the exact same issue with my first note I bought in November. Ended up returning it to the retailer about 6 weeks into use and buying a new one I've had for about 6 weeks so far as well. No issue on the 2nd one as far as I can tell right now but this seems like another common problem.

If these bubbles/dots are caused by the reasons i mentioned earlier, they align with the colored rim of the touchscreen, because the color layer increases thickness of the glass by some nanometers. Going towards the center of the screen, the gap narrows because of adhesive force bending the glass. This should prevent the bubbles/dots from wandering inwards. Otherwise there's a huge issue with the device, though mine is (still) fine.

I noticed these dots on my white note after I got it back from battery repair. Not sure if it was there but I have 3 clusters of bubbles now
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk

since yesterday i've this strange line as well. It came out of nowhere. After reading this tread @yararli could be right about something. Normally I use my screen about 25% brightness. Yesterday I watched a episode at almost 100% brightness. So there could be a causality between the brightness en warming-up which result in this strange line. My tablet is black bought it around december.
Is there any news about returns? Will there repair this problem or give a new tablet?

[Q] Smart stay - yay or nay

so I have just recently purchased my note8 and Im still trying to get the hang of it. I notice that I frequently qet message saying that the smart stay can't detect my eyes.
I also notice that I rarely see the eye icon lights up (I assume its there to indicate that the feature is active).and one time, the screen went blank just right after the eye lit up.
maybe, speaking from my limited exp, just maybe, the smart stay works better on devices with smaller display as the variance of the eyes/ face orientation will be much smaller compared to on an 8"device.
While I understand the benefits, the question is how many of you find this feature reliable on this tablet? pls feel free to share your experience on how it performs on smaller devices.
Im thinking I might as well turn it off in exchange for some extra battery life.
thanks / Luke
Can't share any experience using this feature as turning it off was the very first thing I did after purchasing my device
I think the drain should be way too high since it uses the front camera all the time, doesn't it? Anyway, it happens maybe once a week that the display turns off when I'm actually looking at it - at most. And just before the display turning off it dims the screen, so there is still some time to react..
Gesendet von meinem GT-N5100 mit Tapatalk 2
I find it doesn't work as well in the dark as my GS3 did under earlier firmware and I do often get the icon. But smart stay does work well for me. Unless I'm laying down on my side.

It checks every 15 seconds of inactivity to see if you're still looking at the screen. If you're not according to your front camera, it'll dim/shut the screen.

Mine only checks a few seconds before the screen is set to time out. Ie. If the screen is set to stay on for 2 minutes, it will check at about 1:50 of inactivity.
I kind of like it except, as posted above, it can be a little iffy in low light.

I really think it is almost completely useless and simply a waste of battery. I've also disabled lock screen. Nobody touches this tablet but me. When I use it I want it instant on, and when I'm done I turn the screen off myself. I hate my devices trying to decide for themselves when to switch off, and first thing I always TAKE THE POWER BACK!
Thanks for the feedback everyone. l have been trying it off and on but at the end I would have to agree that it doesn't work for me. I cant say how much power saving I get by turning it off but it feels good to know that some resources are relieved for something else.
I use it on my note 2 (8 months now) and note 8.... it doesn't burn much battery.... it works better on the note 2 because your face is exactly straight on the camera... On the tablet.. Usually we hold it slightly at an angle.. So the camera sometimes misses off

After reading this topic, I charged my Note 2 and disabled this feature to try to get more bvattery life.
The difference is like night and day. The screen consumes a lot less power (according to the JB's Battery widget) and the battery lasts much longer.
i've never used this on any of my devices. i always seem to have this odd habit of turning off electronics when i'm not using them
A big NAY for me, I just haven't been able to get it to work even a single time, keep getting the "Smart stay cannot detect your Eyes" message again.
Is it that bad, even in other device like the S3 or S4? S4 has so many features(like the smart pause based on it, makes me think I can't use it properly), any tips how to better the usability(other than the usual ones given by Samsung)?

[Q] dark grey shade on the screen, please help

My Note 10.1 2014 screen shows grey/black shades like this on the screen, it appears on any part of screen, and when I restart it, this happens ---
I press main button the screen won't show anything. But tablet itself seems to be fully functional in anything else. I still can touch-unlock it, do stuff and hear responding sounds. But the screen is down.
I have attached the images
However I found a fix for this which involved reinserting of some back cables, I did that , it worked but only temporarily , then I tried opening the device myself to do that 'temporary' fix again, but stupid me broke the screen, :crying: I took it to sammy service and they put a new screen on it, but the problem of shading still remains, but very less (only on the lower right corner) , and this time it goes away sometimes on its own
I realised that when I use the tablet for a long time, (like watch movies etc) and then leave it for a few minutes, it gets that shade on its own when i start using it again,
I gave it again to sammy as the new screen is under warranty, they say they are gonna change the lcd , what can be the reason guys? Please help
And what is this problem even called? Are these dead pixels? Screen burn in, bleeding , what ?< I am so confused
It looks like one of the lcd backlight led died.

If it appears on different places of the screen that means backlight driver circuit fault but if it s same place everytime then Led is the problem.

I highly double that it is related to applied pressure since you dont have any complaints about glass cracks, digitizer issues or spen issues.

Pixel C touchscreen issue (video)

Just received the Pixel C and I immediately checked for the touchscreen issue some reviews were talking about.
There's definitely a touchscreen issue. In the video Pixel C is on the left and Galaxy Tab S2 on the right.
(this is not an issue of lag or something, Pixel C is much smoother than the Tab S2. It's the touchscreen.)
watch in 60fps https://youtu.be/Q9illQ7kp_w
I will test this when i get home but I have not noticed any real world use issues with the touchscreen. I used a Note 10.1 2014 edition daily for over 2 years and didn't notice any issue when I switched over to the Pixel C yesterday.
You should try to pinch to zoom on a picture or just in chrome. It's stuttery.
Could you also check if The left side (where the volume buttons are) gets warm... I'm just browsing and it's getting quiet warm.
No stutter here. Pinch to zoom works perfect.
Check your hardware revision, I'm curious to see what others have. Mine is 5
As far as the heat, it's to be expected with such a powerful processor/gpu along with the metal body.
Sent from my Pixel C using Tapatalk
Also 5. I've rebooted the tablet and it's gone for now. I'll let you when it comes back.
I honestly can't see any problems with the video. Is it that the circles don't follow your fingertips as closely?

I believe thats the issue they are trying to show. There is a lag in the touch input in his video compared to the S2
Looking at the video the problem you're probably talking about is a delay between the digitizer and the screen.
That can be fixed by over clocking the display. I also noticed today that when the device is cold 40°F I get that same "laggy" effect. Not worth worrying over though.
Sent from my Pixel C using Tapatalk
I'm finding the touchscreen really problematic. I find I have to make very firm and deliberate touches unlike my Tab S. Even though I can hear my finger tapping the screen, it doesn't register. I can't play "word find" type games because you have to trace the letters so slowly in order for them to register.

Touchscreen problems

Hi, I bought my nexus 5x (32gb black) 4 days ago. Since the first time I got the impression that the touchscreen was not as good as the g4's one.
For example, on the nexus I do a lot of mistakes while typing with any keyboard app (stock and swiftkey): it seems that the touchscreen is not accurate.
Yesterday I played with "Yet Another Multitouch Tester" app and I found out that every time I had two touches very close the phone recognizes a non-existent touch positioned between the existing two.
I had a 1+1 some months back with the touchscreen grounding issue and I could say that it was worse than this nexus 5x's issue, but at the se time I think that in not a normal behavior.
This is a screen record of the problem:
https://youtu.be/B15ijSiCSsg
I had got a detective unit?
What do you advise me to do?
I'm in time to ask the RMA.

My retardedly expensive S7 has an issue (if you want to try and call it that) where when my fingers get about 2.5mm apart the touch combines into a single event. Is it an issue? No. Never in actual usage do I operate my phone like that. Same with my 5X. If my fingers are really close the screen acts retarded. Is there ever a situation where it would cause a problem? Not a chance. No one can type that fast. You have to want this to happen to get it to happen. My guess is you are simply struggling to type on a smaller screen.

In my case the issue appear when the two touches are at 100dpi of distance. It's something like 1cm that is a HUGE distance compared to 2.5mm

It can be replicated on my end but I really need to be pushing my thumbs together pretty hard to do that. That being said, it's not like I actually type like that and I never really have issues with typos with either SwiftKey or Google Keyboard.

It's not always on. If you cover the proximity sensor it turns off the always on display. So if in your pocket or face down (which I do to stop watching the time go slow) it will not burn in.
Also Google move the display so it's not constantly displaying is the exact same position all them time, see https://9to5google.com/2017/10/17/google-pixel-2-oled-burn-in-protection/

Yeah it's not as dramatic a shifting as Samsung does it but it does the job. Have had my phone since the month it was released but no AOD display burn in. The bottom though, does have a little but I just recently switched to Fluid Navigation so maybe it'll alleviate some of it
