Hi so I got the free HD Media Link that AT&T was offering with pre-order of the phone. Is there anyone else having issues trying to have it connect? I have read that you have to turn of your 5GHz on the wifi router in order of the Media Link to work, which it did when I reset my router, then it went back to trying to connect as a HotSpot. ATT charges allot for this option the HotSpot, so anyone with suggestions on how to get the media link to stay connected through the router? Thank you for your help in the matter,

I am using the Media Link that I bought separately for $80. at the Sprint store I think it was the only one in the town where I live as I had to call around a bunch of stores for it. I have a wireless G router and it connects pretty good. I stream video, watch tv, play video games, etc.. Some time it lags a little. On my Sprint HTC One if it disconnects abruptly for some reason you see a error message about the hot spot too - but I think thats normal because its sending a wireless transmission from the phone to media link and I think it uses part of hot spot or something. Did you swipe the screen with three fingers upward to connect to media link. Or on my phone if you go into android settings there is a separate media link button to click and connect to media link. Hope this helps maybe.

It's an issue with AT&T and tethering at the moment. HTC says they are working on a fix.. only option right now is to root and flash the tethering or hotspot mod available in the one AT&T development section in xda.

Yeah I have followed the directions and even reset the box a few times. When I do however shut off the 5GHz and reboot the router I can login, I have only been able to do this twice now. Each time I try and do the swipe it tries to connect then switches to HotSpot. I believe it is an issue with ATT which upsets me because it was one of the reasons I got the HTC One was the media link but if the ad was used to trick me into purchasing the HTC One then I am going to make sure that ATT knows about this and I will be more than happy to vent my frustrations with them... Thanks for the reply.

I started getting the tethering error too. Evidently, HTC is aware of a problem. I saw some things on the web that said try turning the airplane mode on. I tried that and it did not work. However, I got to thinking well it was working fine - what changed. I turned my bluetooth on and off again and that it started working. Try connecting with bluetooth turn on. Once you connected turn off bluetooth. I did this and now I don't have any problems again. I think there is something wrong with bluetooth interfering with media link.
Hiya... did quite a bit of searching, but couldn't find a lead on this. I feel like it should be doable... but the built in setting and the apps I've tried don't seem to work. (AllCast, pixel media server)
I'm trying to stream movies from my phone through my Xbox while tethering onto my tv but it's just not happening... the built in function requests that I connect to Wi-Fi, but I don't have a router, just the tether... any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

Why not just get an HDMI adapter and save the tethering data? Not positive, but I believe you need wifi to stream to the Xbox anyway. I assume you mean like Netflix or whatever? You can use the Allshare Cast Dongle without wifi but a lot of times the sound can lag behind. Keep in mind if you are trying to stream anything from your phone to your Xbox, it HAS to actually be on the phone itself, I don't even think it can be on the external SD card. This means trying to use DLNA for Netflix will never work. I could be wrong about it being on the external but I don't think so.
I'm trying to stream a local video file from my phone to my tv through my xbox360. I don't have an hdmi cable for the phone. I don't have a wireless router....just my phone and the xbox..I can get the xbox connected to my phone by tethering, but I can't figure out how to get the DLNA stuff going without the wireless router.
I feel like it should be possible. I don't need to stream Netflix or anything... just local videos on my phone to the xbox.
I'm still trying to figure out a way. Thanks

I'm not sure how WiFi direct-connect would work with an Xbox...but I've used it with a Mac at work with no problems. Kies? I'm just spit-balling ideas, as I am on CM (and have been since I got the phone home) so I'm a little out of my element. But I'm sure there's a way and it's likely down this path.
Or, failing that, head down to your local Salvation Army or Goodwill (or other thrift shop type place) and pick up a wifi router for $3-$10....I've done it many times before. If you can afford a Note3 on T-Mobile you can afford to spend $3-$20 for a used (discarded, unwanted, otherwise undesirable) WiFi router.
EDIT: or spend $5(?) for an MHL adapter to plug it into your TV directly and screw the middleman Xbox.
Yeah.... those are where I'm headed in the solution department. I just wish I could connect it to the phone via tether and then pick up the video file over that connection.
I'll keep looking for a simple and elegant software solution. I have an hdmi cable for my laptop that works ez pz... but I was going I could accomplish it through my phone.
Thanks though!

I've had my Nexus 7 since Christmas. While I really like it, I still am VERY disappointed in it (in)ability to handle video output. Has there been ANY developments since Christmas in fixing this huge flaw? Any new hardware that will make viewing a movie from the Nexus to a TV acceptable? Any software that will improve the situation? I really am disappointed that I still have to watch videos through my Kindle (which I WAS planning to give to my daughter). I did buy a converter cord that was suggested here, but it's somewhat mediocre; odd "static" flashes, odd over-bright colors.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, I spend a great deal of my time in an area with extremely erratic internet. I simply can't use the internet to stream, so a hard wire is required. I bought a Patuoxun Slimport MyDP, which "works", but the quality is pretty mediocre. Static, hesitancy. I was hoping that there was some sort of new hardware that kept things smooth and consistent. My old Kindle Fire HD had a much better output quality (although not perfect). Hoping to at least match it on my Nexus.

Actually, it uses your wireless LAN bandwidth, not internet.
Yeah, those chinese dongles knock-offs are not the best deal, I have heard the best from people using the real thing: http://www.amazon.com/SlimPort®-SP1002-Connect-connector-Supports/dp/B009UZBLSG

Did you see the part about those apps not using internet? They use the local lan, they don't even need internet (other than for installing them initially/license checks).

Can you explain this to me? Are you saying that the connection is "local"? So, if I have a movie on my Nexus and want to "broadcast" it to my TV through Chromecast, is the signal NOT uploading and then downloading via the internet? Because I cannot use the internet where I live part time to stream; the connection is way too slow. Can you explain how "wireless LAN" is setup and how it works? And is this possible using a Roku instead of a Chromecast (I own a Roku unit).
Thanks.

Right, it's local, it gets the video from your device over your wireless router, to the chromecast, internet does not come into play at all.
Do you have a wireless router (aka wifi)? If so then all you do is set up the chromecast to attach to it, then have your N7 connect to the same wifi network, then your N7 can send to the chromecast directly, with the help of one of those apps.
If you do not have wifi access point or router, then you will of course have to buy one, initially you will need internet to get the apps and stuff, but once it's setup you can play movies/ pics/ music that is on your N7 directly to your chromecast on your TV.

if you don't have a chromecast but happen to have a PS3 or Xbox 360 you can use Skifta/Bubble UPNP to stream files from your tablet to your console to watch on tv, I use Skifta and it works flawlessly on my ps3 as mdamaged said above, no need to internet to come into play, just your local network so internet issues won't affect it :good:
as for your Roku player, they have an app to do exactly that, stream straight to it but for some reason apparently doesn't support N7 2013, but supports the 2012 version

I downloaded the app you listed above. It now lists N7 2013 as compatible. I could get the pictures and music functions to work, but not videos. I have access to a massive legal catalog of MKV and MP4 movies. However, when I tried to play either type via the software I get a message that the movies are incompatible with the Roku. I guess my next move will be to borrow someones Chromecast and try it. Life shouldn't be this hard.

i am asking due to you seem to have a ps3 or roku on your network. If the movies files are stored on your computer, you can share the movie folder on your network so the ps3 or roku can see them..
Then you can simply from your tv find the movie you want to watch and leave the nexus 7 out of this

Just a heads up here. You can buy a slim port for less than 30$ here:
http://www.amazon.com/SlimPort-HDMI-Adapter-Connect-enabled/dp/B00DWGB6CU/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1393867107&sr=1-2&keywords=slimport
I think the difference between this one and the other one linked earlier is the model difference (SP1002 vs SP1003 here) which could be a newer version of the same product.
Also if you search for something that can stream to your roku, you can try allcast here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.cast&hl=en
There's a limitation on the free version but if it works great on your device, you can buy the full version for 5 bucks I think.
Hope it helps.

Thanks for your response. Yes, I saw the Slimport. Tempting.
I tried AllCast. Doesn't handle several formats well. Couldn't use it.
I think the ideal solution would be some sort of Roku app that would allow DIRECT interface with my laptop or Nexus via my router. Since my internet speed is too slow for streaming, I can't use an app like Plex, for instance, to view movies on my laptop/Nexus. I just looked at Plex; very nice concept, but can't figure out a way to avoid using the internet.
I borrowed a ChromeCast stick today. Will try that with AllCast and other apps on my nexus and see what happens.
I appreciate ALL input!

I use plex server and its app on my roku, it streams over the LAN. You'd setup the server on your laptop or PC (dual core or better recommended and 2 gigs or more of ram), and set it up, install the roku app, and it'll find the plex server on the network and you can play through that. BubbleUPNP works similarly in that it has a server (paid) that transcodes (like plex server) to allow more formats than the chromecast can accept directly.

none of the options both I and everyone else has suggested USE THE INTERNET. If you pull out your DSL connection from your modem/router, you still have a local network connection between devices via your router, and all the apps we have suggested will work perfectly. Your ISP speed has absolutely nothing to do with what you want to do.

Is it possible to use the FireTV without an active internet connection?
I am running XBMC on my FireTV and it has replaced my WDTV as my main streaming device. I have my movies all on a NAS and have been streaming everything over my network nicely since installing XBMC. I ran into a problem today when we had some storms come through my area. My cable got knocked out and no cable means no internet. I figured I would be fine, just stream some movies over my network for the kids until the cable came back. Turns out I was wrong... With no active internet connection, I am not able to even disable the parental controls to access my apps, let alone access any movies over my network.
Is there a way to bypass the FireTV looking for an active internet connection??

I eliminated the parental controls for this reason. I have used mine without an Internet connection prior to this last firmware update. I haven't tried since upgrading, but the parental controls were an issue. You can try to put XBMC on the main page so you don't need to run it through Settings | Applications.

Unfortunately I can't disable the parental controls because I have already caught my 4 year old boy buying his favorite shows on Amazon.
How would I go about putting XBMC on the main page? Even if I could put it on the main page it wouldn't help with no internet because under every menu it tells me to go to network settings and set up my network.
..
I had to set up a bogus credit card on my son's kindle fire. It allowed him to use the app store for free stuff but obviously nothing that costs $. I Googled it at the time n forget how offhand but it was fairly straight forward and simple.

Shameless plug...
My xposed module (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2786618) lets you use an alternate home launcher. With this version of XBMC (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2790392) it'll make that be the home launcher. Or you could use another launcher...

But, if you don't have Internet, you can't buy anything, right?
I am thinking the launcher idea may be the way to go. That way I can still keep my parental controls on, and be able to access other apps if the internet connection drops out again.

Just made an order for my first OnePlus (3) and jumping from SGs5. I have had loads of luck rooting and flashing with my last model and will surely run the OP3 for a while before diving in to rooting the OP3.
But with serching around I seam to not be able to find many options with using the OP3 as a media hub to my TV. It seams the best way is to just use Googles Chromecast. Or Microsofts Mirorcast.
My problem is i wanted to use my unlimited data plan and NOT use a cable or wifi provider to do this....i.e. just plug and stream to the TV. (Comcast is the only provider in my aria and i hate them for my own reasons).
So questions:
1. What are you using to use your OP3 to provide content on your NON smart TV?
2. Can we use a cable to a HDMI adapter? (I heard no)
3. Have any Devs been working around this, and have a work around?
4. Are there other options that i should be looking at?
5. Am i just forced to get a smart tv and internet to make this happen??
Thank you for taking your time for helping me out and dealing with my nubeiness. I really appreciate any help, and sorry if this has been asked before but i didnt find much on this topic.

I just have a Roku that I sling my content to. But you obviously need some type of wifi set up for this to work. Not sure how you could get your cellphone data to the Roku...but maybe you could run it through a hotspot you activate on your new OP3.
