Hi so I got the free HD Media Link that AT&T was offering with pre-order of the phone. Is there anyone else having issues trying to have it connect? I have read that you have to turn of your 5GHz on the wifi router in order of the Media Link to work, which it did when I reset my router, then it went back to trying to connect as a HotSpot. ATT charges allot for this option the HotSpot, so anyone with suggestions on how to get the media link to stay connected through the router? Thank you for your help in the matter,

I am using the Media Link that I bought separately for $80. at the Sprint store I think it was the only one in the town where I live as I had to call around a bunch of stores for it. I have a wireless G router and it connects pretty good. I stream video, watch tv, play video games, etc.. Some time it lags a little. On my Sprint HTC One if it disconnects abruptly for some reason you see a error message about the hot spot too - but I think thats normal because its sending a wireless transmission from the phone to media link and I think it uses part of hot spot or something. Did you swipe the screen with three fingers upward to connect to media link. Or on my phone if you go into android settings there is a separate media link button to click and connect to media link. Hope this helps maybe.

It's an issue with AT&T and tethering at the moment. HTC says they are working on a fix.. only option right now is to root and flash the tethering or hotspot mod available in the one AT&T development section in xda.

Yeah I have followed the directions and even reset the box a few times. When I do however shut off the 5GHz and reboot the router I can login, I have only been able to do this twice now. Each time I try and do the swipe it tries to connect then switches to HotSpot. I believe it is an issue with ATT which upsets me because it was one of the reasons I got the HTC One was the media link but if the ad was used to trick me into purchasing the HTC One then I am going to make sure that ATT knows about this and I will be more than happy to vent my frustrations with them... Thanks for the reply.

I started getting the tethering error too. Evidently, HTC is aware of a problem. I saw some things on the web that said try turning the airplane mode on. I tried that and it did not work. However, I got to thinking well it was working fine - what changed. I turned my bluetooth on and off again and that it started working. Try connecting with bluetooth turn on. Once you connected turn off bluetooth. I did this and now I don't have any problems again. I think there is something wrong with bluetooth interfering with media link.

I don't know about anybody else.... but I already knew this! I've been using Iplayer on my Touch HD since Christmas (when I got my Touch HD).
The problem, still, is that you need wifi... you can't use your Data Connection!
I'm still having trouble. From the other threads I think a few people still do.
I've tried several times. No luck. It opens in the video player but then just hangs on "connecting".
Now that the blackstone is supported there shouldnt be any need to change the user agent... but still?

Same thing happens with mine anyone out there got any ideas?
sorry i only just found this out have been watching ot through skyfire lol. i was impressed with both
My understanding is iPlayer works only on 3 and vodafone over their network at the moment. I've used it with 3 no problems.
^ True, but it should work over wifi no matter what network you use.
In my case and others, the Touch HD can't deal with Iplayer via wifi out the box.
Those of you having problems over wifi might find the problem is nothing to do with the BBC or the Touch, but your router/firewall. I have two wifi networks in my house - one is within my network behind the gateway/firewall PC and another is right at my broadband modem (in the DMZ).
Connecting directly through the broadband modem means I can watch the iPlayer no problem, but if I'm behind the gateway then the HD's streaming app can't connect. I haven't bothered to investigate which ports I need to open in the gateway to make it work within the network but I assume it must be possible.
Hope this helps suggest a pointer for investigation.

it doesn't matter if you type in bbc.co.uk/iplayer, it redirects you automatically to the mobile version.
I get: "Please switch to Wifi to play this programme.".
I'm from the Netherlands and use the Vodafone network, how can i resolve this problem?
i am on T-mobile uk, and i also get pls switch to wifi, thing is.... if you was near wifi, your probably at home, use the pc to watch iplayer lol. Guess theres always the usefulness for the toilet lol
I have the same problem where it hangs on connecting,

everyone keeps saying this but it's not on mine. is it somewhere on my system? i've looked through every executable and it's like my touch hd
didn't come with the standard software.
That media player is not the default one that opens when I try to use Iplayer either. Mine has less and smaller icons. They're circles too. Not Square.
If the problem is with the router/firewall, does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?
The youtube player works perfectly over both wifi and 3g. I also have Gremote working fine... both of which require connections to the PC..?
Not working no more
I NEED HELP. i had bbc iplayer working for couple of months now. and suddenly when i want to watch something i get an error. i can go on the site, that loads up perfectley www.bbc.co.uk/mobile/iplayer yeah that loads up fine. but when i go down and click on drama or comedy, i get an error saying check server snd url. it worked b4 and its not working now. im obviously using it through wifi.

EDIT: Have discovered the problem is my bebox router, read post #10 for more details if you're having the same problem I did......

Hi guys, i've been looking around for the past 2 days including searching through these forums for ages and I can't quite find the answer i'm looking for. A few threads have come close but don't really help because they're not
specifically about this problem.
I've got the Touch HD it came installed with pvplayer,
when I go to the BBC iPlayer mobile site the videos hang on the connecting screen.
I've seen a video of the htc Touch HD running Iplayer but the media player the browser links to isn't the one I have.
http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=1902#comment-10175
That's the page I saw the video on.
I tried installing the Htc Streaming Media app, if i'm running that i get it
to buffer and I get audio but no video.
The toolbar also looks really small and it's garbled on the bottom right hand side of the screen. so i'm thinking I might have an old version or something.
So the question is.....
Does anyone know what player the guy in the video is using?
and if it's a different version of the Htc Streaming Media app
where can I get it.
Any help appreciated, oh and sorry if it's covered elsewhere, i've been going through these forums for ages trying to find it but all the answers seem to be relating to old hacks before the BBC started supporting the phone or people
going "runs great now" without saying what they're using to do it.
(originally posted in the general discussion by accident, no flaming please)
EDIT: I've been told by someone at wmpoweruser that it's the default player that comes with the phone, strangely I've never seen it, now i'm wondering
if there's a specific build from orange without the player. I don't want to do a hard reset to check just yet (i've spent the last week getting everything on there
that I need and I don't feel like starting from scratch)
if anyone knows of a .cab file with the "default" htc streaming app for the touch HD i'd really appreciate it. Thanks
Ive got mine from orange and it is included, and iplayer works.
I think it only works over wifi though, i could get it to work over 3g or when plugged into my PC.
Mike.
I got mine from orange too, but it hangs on the loading screen.

what player is it using to stream?
mine automatically goes to pvplayer, I can't find the htc default software anywhere.
pvplayer just stops at connecting.
Having the same problem.
iPlayer launched PVPlayer and then it just hangs on "Connecting...."
Phone from Orange also.
im on orange and it seems to work fine, still in 'Beta' tho.

I get the same stuck on connecting when using m.youtube.com
(coreplayer can do it but I wanted to check the player was working)
are you using a bebox router? i've seen someone else on wmpoweruser had
the same problem, switched routers and it worked.
i'm on bebox too but don't have a spare router to check.... maybe thats
the problem.
I am using a bebox router which may be the issue.
I did manage to get audio using an old version of the HTC Streaming Media Player but no video and the menu's were all corrupt.
I'll try from different wifi

ok cool let me know how you get on.
i don't want to go buying a router just to check
EDIT:
Discovered it's almost definately the router.
i've gone back to the standard pvplayer and I think it should work without tweaks with a different router.
to explain why i think that's the case i'll explain
i had to do a few things.....
while stuck on connecting using wifi I copied the stream file from the opera tempdownload folder
to my storage card
because pvplayer will delete a temp stream from iplayer after you stop it (confused me for a bit
because i couldn't figure out where iplayer sent em and the other streams from different sites hadn't deleted themselves)
I zipped the file in a temp folder then extracted
it again so i'd keep a copy.
I turned off wifi and turned on my data connection.
I then ran the stream file with pvplayer... it got past connecting!!
buffered and started to run.... ok it stopped every 2 seconds to rebuffer for about 10 seconds so it was unwatchable
because it's meant to be a wifi quality stream and i was running on 3g but it actually got past connecting!
so it must be my bebox router not letting me connect....
interesting side note that i discovered
you can probably run iplayer without using wifi if you grab the stream file at a wifi spot
then copy the file to a different place ... probably work ok on hsdpa connection
haven't had chance to check yet. :>
You can try this.

Awesome app - still in 0.4 and a bit buggy but works in WVGA!! Best picture possible.
To stream use with tcpmp http://rghost.ru/40265 or coreplayer. Just ensure in those apps in permissions you add .mov files as assosicated otherwsie it will just download them.

thanks for the heads up just edited my last post to explain that it's almost definately my router, i've been keeping track of that iplayer app and posting back to craftyb the bugs for the touch hd
also edited my first post to explain that i've discovered the problem (probably usefull for someone, i wish more people would do the same )
ive worked out why it hangs....
its to do with ports and blocking them, at my girlfriends i connect to iplayer via wifi, (also with the pvplayer app on orange branded handset)
i need to find out which ports need to be open so i can add the app to the router, that or try get the silly router app to not be so strict!!

uses streamiing media for ppc. standard with stock touch hd.

Hi Zooby, I can confirm that its definitely the bebox. I have the 700 series speedtouch. I disconnected it and used a friends netgear modem and could stream iplayer beautifully to my HD and Polaris. The solution apparently is to forward ports on the bebox for the hd and apply the chosen port settings to htc streaming player. I couldnt get it to work so i bought a netgear dg834gt. The dg834n works well too. If you figure out how to port forward the bebox for the Touch HD, please let us know.

i've tried a few different port ranges already, i saw someone on another thread talking about a specific range working but it didn't work for me
(the guy tried 4105 - 4125)
i've searched through forums and iplayer tech support pages for the ports iplayer mobile uses, can't seem to find them.
google is not my ally on this one.
will login to Be forums at some point see if anyone there has had the same problem.
I hope I don't have to buy a new router, I only just finished messing around with it to open up the last ethernet port to use on xbox live (for some reason the last port was reserved for other uses as standard).
I think that last port is used by Be techies when you authorise them to remote access your Bebox if you need help with a fault etc. I did search the Be forums a while back but nothing useful. I bet it's something really simple though. The problem is getting information from someone who's got it working. Someone on Be in the Uk, using a Bebox, has a pda phone and accesses iplayer(from within the UK). A bit of a tall order, i think.

yeh i know but i had an extra non wifi device i needed to put on.....
i've checked bebox forums, nobody seems to have a clue.
pretty much everyone on there is buying a different router.
i've tried a few options with the router, i just can't seem to open it up.
(changed firmware 3 times, telnet to change nat, specific ports related to the iplayer download manager... trust me... loads of things.)
i'm not gonna go buying a new router just to watch iplayer while in my house since i can do that from my pc anyway, for anyone that desperate to watch it from home on a bebox router.... buy a new router.

I have noticed that if you're pushing something to your TV or media box (Apple TV) and the screen goes off, it will lose the connection. It also kills your internet connection temporarily and the only way to get it back is to toggle wifi off and back on. Super annoying. The moral of the story is, don't let the screen go dark while you're pushing content. And if it stops working, toggle wifi off and back on, then reestablish the connection again.

Hi,
I was thinking to buy an HTC Media Link to make things easier to view my One-X on my HD TV. Can anyone confirm if it is currently working with the recent test builds of JB? also how does it connect to the One-X is it a direct wifi connection P2P or does both devices have to connect to my home router to enable them to send/receive content? The reason that i'm asking is to know if the HTC Media link will work in places that i have no Router connection available, such as in some hotel rooms or other places?
Thanx for all your advices....
It is connected through the home Wifi through the router so I think it will not work in a hotel?
I got one free fro htc back in June but rarely use it cos the lag is too much. Not sure about the current firmware though nv tried since June.

Whilst I'm not at liberty to discuss in detail the latest JB trial software for the One X - I will say that the Media Link HD has been reported as being very buggy whilst attempting to use it...'nuff said!
My One X is on ARHD JB leak, since putting this one it's no longer able to stream to the Media Link. I'm guessing as this is a leaked rom base HTC haven't yet released an updated firmware for the Media Link.
Having said that, I was less than impressed with the performance of my Media Link anyway. Hopefully the combination of new firmware and JB will improve things!
I guess you just have to wait for the proper JB release to enjoy some propper support from HTC as well
Well a long time ago I purchased just the MHL adaptor so that I could play content from my phone to hdtv. You have to also power the adaptor and of course your phone is then tried to the tv via the HDMI lead. But I also found that the phone battery votes flat while playing any content so the adaptor and power supply are not providing enough power to the phone. I was using the original 1A wall charger that came with my One-X.
But it does work well to allow me to use Skype on my hdtv and using my car screen mount to hold and position my phone for the back hi res camera.

I have a Media Link HD and it works flawlessly, no lag at all. 3 finger swipe up and it starts, 3 finger swipe down and it stops.
Specifically, the Media Link HD will work in both ways you mention. If there is no WiFi router available to connect through your One X will create an Ad-Hoc connection and stream to it that way. I've found that the JB leaks do not yet support the Media Link HD as upon connection, it notifies that there is a firmware update. Then when it tries to download this update it fails.
Thanx and so how does the media link connect to the router? Is it automatic or do you have to first configure it from a pc or directly from the One-X?
For my example if I'm in a hotel which has WiFi but via a web page interface to log in how would that work or in this case would the direct link between One-X and media link be the way to go?

It seems to set up an automatic ad hoc connection first, then the phone sends the infrastructure connection details to the media link through the ad hoc network. Both devices then drop the ad hoc network and connect to the infrastructure. So it is transparent. However I doubt it would work with a router webpage login.
If you are in a hotel with a webpage login then the media link would likely not gain internet access. However, it doesn't need that, so long as it can talk to the phone through the network. Saying that, if I were to configure a hotel access point, I would certainly set it up to block wireless inter-client communication at the router (to stop users hacking each others' computers). So in short it could work but most likely will be blocked.
Note that if the phone can't connect through infrastructure, it will automatically connect through an ad hoc connection. During this time the phone pretends to be connected to the infrastructure, so you may not even notice except that Internet access is lost.
