Strange but true - Galaxy S 4 Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Strange. I have I9192DDU1BML1. Kingo method and acro68 method of rooting did not trip my knox flag. I installed CWM recovery. I also flashed custom kernels. Silvumik and c0bain kernels. It is again 0x0. I'm happy of course. But how did it happen. Any clues.

AFAIK Kingo's get their rooting method from Saferoot, which does not trip knox at all. However flashing over Kernel suppose to trip the knox. Well, should just consider lucky and be happy

Omce you trip the l knox from flashing over your kernel is there anyway to fix that because I cannot flash anything. I get a verizon warning about unauthorized software and that I need to bring the phone in

Thanks! What about otas? What needs to be done to get them, when time comes?
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
Needs to be stock unrooted to my knowledge or someone will get the update and apply it and build a rom around it

If you are rooted, you will not receive OTA updates.
You will get a prompt stating there is an update available, if you hit "update", it will go into download mode, but if you are rooted or your KNOX is tripped, it will do 1 of 2 things:
Update will fail and device will reboot or
Device will brick and you will have to Odin back to stock.
The only way you can get the OTA updates is if you reset you KNOX counter (which I don't think is possible yet) and revert your firmware/system to stock Samsung Official (using Supersu full unroot and Chainfire's Triangle Away)
There are guides how to unroot to official on the internet.
Hope this helped.

Hmm, What could happen is if you only have root with not custom recovery, you will get OTA and will be able to flash just fine...(with knox still at 0x0) { done this with many phones only problem is loose root}
Now if you have removed any apps from system and try to update, then you would get a fail and just a reboot..
Or if you have root and tripped knox and still have stock recovery you will get OTA be able to flash and will loose root and still have knox flag tripped
like most cases, as if you would unlock htc bootloader... it says "unlocked" long there is no system files removed and you have stock recovery you are able still get OTA and flash them fine but the bootloader still remains unlocked...
what devynbf said is like worse case scenarios

[Q] rooting and installing roms MK2

Hey guys
I don't currently have this phone model, but my friend wants me to root and install a 4.4 rom on it. Just have a couple of questions.
Would saferoot or cf-autoroot both work? I have no experience with either so if someone could recommend one over the other that would be great. I'm a little more experienced with saferoot since I'm recommending it for people who took our 4.3 OTA. Never actually used it.
Also for us Verizon folks, we got locked bootloaders in the update. I know that Knox is included in the update, but am I able to still install a custom rom over it? I understand the Knox counter will be tripped, but I'm not concerned about that. Just don't want the phone to soft brick from an installation.

Cf auto root works. You can still install custom roms if you trip Knox

Question about which root method to use.

I just recently picked up a T-Mobile unlocked Note 3. It's still stock on 4.3 and I'm trying to find out what is the best way to root without tripping the KNOX counter.
Also, will flashing any recovery trigger the KNOX counter?
Basically, what will and won't trigger it.
Thanks in advance.

All I could find is
"If you are running MJ4, MJ7, MK1, MK2 or higher you can still root, but you will trip KNOX!"
But it also doesn't say that it won't trip Knox on others. It also doesn't state if there's a way to flash a recovery or rom without tripping Knox.

You can root MI7 with RDLV and not trip Knox. Custom recoveries WILL trip Knox. Custom kernels WILL trip Knox. Custom roms WILL trip Knox unless you use safestrap.

It shouldn't, but no guarantee obviously. Just root with RDLV and install safestrap. It uses stock kernel and injects itself between the boot loader and the stock ROM.

Perfect! One last question, I have to use only certain roms with safestrap, right?

I believe you can only use TW based Roms, since they use the stock kernel. Search for the safestrap thread for more about it. Good luck!

Oh, before I forget.. Don't ota to 4.4.2 if you want to keep root. If you do, there are no known root methods that won't trip Knox as of yet.

Thanks man, much appreciated.
Edit: so even though the thread says it's specifically for the SM-N9005 it's compatible with the T-Mobile SM-N900T? Just don't want to brick my phone with the wrong thing lol

Perfect. I'm still stock on 4.3. It looks like I'm going to root with Vega, install SS and install a stock rooted 4.4 rom for SS to avoid tripping KNOX.
Thanks again!

NC2 root and rom

Question.... I have the NC2can I just Odin twrp and flash a rooted knox free custom rom and all is good?
Yeah, just remember that you will trip the Knox counter
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
Yes understood, not worried just thought something may have changed in nc2 since nobody posted how to root it? Or people prolly still using the other 4.3 root method or removing knox and flashing superSU. Thank you sir!
There is a method posted to root, but since you want a custom rom its really unnecessary
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk

Wait what?

Tripping our Knox to 0x1 can permanently make our device stay at custom status?!?
And we won't be able to update anymore?? Omg......

My Knox counter is set to 0x1 and my device status is set to custom right after I rooted using cf autoroot and when I went to check on updates it says that "your device has been modified... Can't update "

Does that mean I can download and install software updates now?? (sorry noob here). And one more question since I fully unrooted and factory reseted to reset custom status but failed, if I root my device again will my Knox trip again and keep adding up? (0x2) unless I freeze Knox services
And I don't care about my warranty, all I care about is that I can be able to update my device and changing my device status to official so I can be able to resell this device to anyone
Can anyone confirm This??
I have rooted, installed recovery and installed custom ROMs. Then I've used Odin to revert to stock, and my pro 10.1 recognizes updates. Installed them, no problem. I've done this several times.
Mine tripped Knox but still had OTA updates went through with no problems, you just can't check manually.

You can update but without root, correct? Since it will say device has been modified if you are rooted.
Tab Pro 8.4
I think you still can, you will lose root status so you will have to re root. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.
Only nexus devices cannot update when rooted from my experience.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
Just update using odin. The only updates that are stopped is the OTA updates.
Samsung doesn't allow updates on device with root or knox tripped.

This is a non-issue as the new RUU is available at sammobile within a few days after official update, no issues after flashing with Odin.

You sure? Because I had two OTA updates on my knox tripped tablet. I just couldn't do manual OTA check.
