[Help]Sonic 2 Running too fast?! - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i am currently trying to play Sonic 2 game form the market on XPLAY HONAMIv2.1.4 ICS ROM but for some weird reason the game is running in fast motion I'ts like theirs no frame limiter on or something. i goggled this issue and it seems its common but no one seems to know how to fix it or why it occurs. on most ics roms this issue does not happen but here it does. i dont want to change my rom i want to fix this. my only thought could be something to do with the video card drivers/config.

Sound playback issues with 2.2

I have reported problems with playing sound before but it probably got lost in the flood of other posts. Since I have recently found someone mentioning similar problem I am starting this topic to figure out if anyone else found it.
In the Chinese stock Froyo rom whenever I was playing any sounds (mp3/podcasts/last.fm) I was getting clicks from time to time. It was correlated with animations of the GUI - or in other words when I was scrolling emails the sound got more choppy. It irritated me so much that I have gone back to 2.1.
Is anyone experiencing similar issues?

Try Jboogie3's Froyo beta 2 or Clip 2 beta 2!! No problem with the case you mentioned!!
I have the exact same problem using Jboogie3's Froyo beta 2 and it is really annoying
I met the same problem too. I dont think it is related to UI. Sometimes there is click/beep even if I dont touch the phone.
Until I found someone using MS2 facing the same problem. It is not hardware problem. May be there are bugs in TI's decoder.
You can try PowerAMP. It uses its own native library as decoder. The sound is perfect!
Hope this helps.
I run into the same problems with the recently release USA Froyo. It's more of an downgrade than an upgrade!
Same issue. Using Vanilla Froyo (based off China 2.2).
Really REALLY annoying.
It's the same with GB Froyo (117).
Well, if this is the case I really hope they fix it until full release. Would ruin the phone for me

I am not experiencing this problem with the UK Froyo release, nor did I experience it with the Chinese Froyo release or with 2.21.0 or 2.34.1 firmwares.
Have you made any modifications to a default firmware release - de-ODEXing, overclocking/undervolting, a custom theme? Are you running CPU-intensive applications in the background? Are you using a lot of resource-intensive widgets?

[Q] Recent choppy game graphics - What could be the culprit?

Hey guys,
Wondering if anyone could help me track down what the issue of me experiencing recent choppy graphics (lags a bit, as if skipping frames, not smooth) on a certain 3d game (Gunbros) could be?
I'm finding it a pain to isolate the problem as it was running smoothly back when I was with CM7.0
However I upgraded to CM7.1 (there was also a big Gunbro update at that time) and I briefly remember it became choppy shortly after.
Now I've switched to MIUI and I still have the issue however, I uninstalled, re-installed, asked me for the re-download data and at that same instance the game ran fine.
Next day, same issue.
Now i'm completely stumped on the cause. Possible culprits:
-CM7.1 / New MIUI
-Gunbros Update?
-Something else (lol I don't know what)
Anyone here experience anything similar? I don't know if I should make a nandroid backup and go to CM7.0.3 to check but I thought I would check if anyone has/is experiencing similar issues.
Usually its because there is not much avalible ram that causes games to lag. But i know miui and cm7 have lots of avalible ram. Have you checked how much avalible ram you have before playing the game?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Yeah I did suspect the RAM once, I've decided to tweak things a bit to make sure I have between 120-150mb free RAM before playing and still the same issue.
Looking through some customer AOSP kernels I noticed one mention "-allocated more GPU memory".
Now I wonder if the Kernels from CM7.1 and MIUI 1.7.8+ had less GPU memory allocated... but now I'm possibly over-thinking a bit.
I haven't had issues with other games BUT I haven't really tried any other games that are equally this 3D intensive.

[Q] Screen sensitivity on JB roms

Hello everyone!
I've been busy lately flashing different roms to my t989, trying to solve the problem described in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1161262.
I've tried some of the newest roms and kernels (All-star 4.2, CM10, 10.1, AOKP) but the issue is still there. The attached APK on that thread does not work And I have no idea how to do the kernel modification ;(
Anything that can be done to solve it? The touchscreen sensitivy option is grayed out on the roms I've tried so far. It's annoying on games like Modern Combat, or TeamViewer (mouse is jumpy). Or do I have to modify an existing kernel? :crying:
Thanks!
I have just noticed this problem.. no wonder the touchscreen sometimes jumps in Dead Trigger
Thank you for bringing this up, hopefully the kernel devs will take a look at this and probably fix this
It could be a slider or something like that
I just noticed that, I was noticing lag, mainly in the youtube application when i'm scrolling, thought it was my rom or phone. I notice it as well with the ripple lock option in embryo 6.

[Q] Strange dual touch issue

Hello. I'm new on this forum so please don't attack me for this post.
I am a big fan of classic JRPG-s and i enjoy playing them on my HTC Desire.
The problem is that with every custom rom that has ICS or JB with which i tried to run any GBA emulator like Gameboid i have a huge problem.
The emulator works flawlessly except one big issue that i didn't have on my stock Froyo 2.2 rom or Cyanogenmod 7 2.3 rom. Whenever i press my display on two different places the emulator restarts or makes a quick load from last quick save state that i had and it makes some games unplayable. Does anyone knows what causes this or how to cure it. Can it have anything to do with kernel maybe?
I'm currently using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2070704 ROM.
Btw i tried 3 maybe 4 emulators like gameboid and My boy and they all have the exactly same issue. Other games that use dual touch from market work normally.
I tried searching but i didn't find anything that could help me with the issue.
Any kind of help would be kindly appreciated.

Question about Xperia Play Z Ultimate Edition rom (apps closing).

Greetings.
In hopes of finding someone who's facing a similar problem, I'd like to ask you about a certain issue.
I've installed the Xperia Play Z Ultimate Edition rom on my Xplay r800i. It's running all cool and great, but there's one problem. The apps are closing for no reason. It's like, one moment you're playing a game, and all of a sudden the main screen appears, as if you pressed the home button, but the app is gone. It looks like they're crashing when the phone is under heavy load. It happens to literally everything. Even Messenger bubbles often disappear when there's a new heavy app starting.
I've searched the rom's thread, but didn't find any information about such problem.
If this matters, I've flashed the kernel that was supplied by rom creator - 480p DoomKernel.
This is the first rom I've seen which has an issue like that, and I don't think there's any alternative, as this is the only ICS rom I know that keeps all of Xplay's core features while significantly improving speed and functionality.
Please help. Does anyone know why this happens?
Update: out of frustration, I've changed to another ICS rom, Honami 2.1.3, together with switching to a Lupus V7 kernel (ram version)... and the same thing happens. Although with the new rom my phone's performance seems to have DRASTICALLY improved, apps are still closing for no reason. There's not even a popup or error, or anything like that - it just pulls the plug and suddenly kicks me to the main screen.
This problem renders heavy games literally UNPLAYABLE. It runs perfect for like 5 or 10 minutes, with high framerate even, then out of a sudden BAM - back to the main screen. No error, no nothing.
Browsing around Lupus settings I've found something called Low Memory Killer. From what I understand, this thing kills the apps when the device is on critically low memory. Maybe this is the cause? And if it is, why the heck is it "going rogue" and killing apps that I'm ACTIVELY USING? How do I configure this? I assume you can't just disable it...
Please help.
Seriously? No one has ANY IDEA what's happening? Please help! I literally have no clue what may be causing this.
Switched to YET ANOTHER rom and kernel - Nexplay, with bundled Lupus kernel, this time also changing the firmware to R800i_4.0.2.A.0.58_Enhanced. With this one, the phone runs definitely the fastest, but guess what... same thing happens as before. Games commit suicide when played for too long. Out of all I've tested, the only ones that don't shut down are OpenTyrian and Nes emulator. Gun Bros worked fine for like 5 minutes, and suddenly closed, working very slow for like 2 seconds before it happened. Same thing with Vendetta Online but this one outright REBOOTED THE PHONE! And these games supposedly are optimized for xplay, so it doesn't make any sense why there's such a problem going on...
I'm starting to wonder if maybe it's because I'm using ICS roms? But then, I've never seen anybody reporting such problems with ANY rom. This definitely isn't a common issue. I'm also using Link2SD, but again, I've never seen anyone mentioning it causing anything like that.
I can relate to your problem. I've experienced the same (apps randomly closing while in use) issues 1 or 2 years ago and to me the development on these roms are dead since the developers have moved onto newer devices. Currently my xperia play is dead (bricked) however with experience of using many of the roms i can safely say that ICS is not meant for the xperia play. Sony themselves didn't officially release ICS for this device due to the number of bugs and problems associated with it. I'd recommend you to use GB roms to bring out the best potential of your device. ICS lags some way or another whereas GB doesn't. All games run smooth on Gingerbread and they certainly do not have issues like ICS does. The best rom for this device is Gin2kitkat ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631144 ) and my personal favourite Xperia NXT 2 r1 (i've used this rom the longest). Here's the link for that: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1649368
From experience, as long as you use a Gingerbread rom you should be good to go as they are the most stable for our device. Good luck
Aaw, that's a real bummer. The problem with GB roms is that there's a lot of ICS apps and games that I really need. One of the main reasons I've decided to unlock bootloader on this device is because I wanted to get an upgrade to ICS. It's really strange. I've seen people play advanced games on this phone (example) and there are no signs of problems such as the one I'm experiencing.
Thanks a lot for your reply. I guess I'll use one more ICS rom, and if that fails, I'll give GB roms a try.
Btw, what do you think about NXT Gaming rom? I don't care much about flashy UI and widgets, and as long as everything in the phone works (camera, xLoud etc.) priority for me is gaming performance, and from description, this rom seems to be the most aggresive I've seen when it comes for optimizing performance for games.
I agree, from the vid the user is seen to be running the ROM "ICS Ultimate". Also i haven't tried the NXT gaming rom only the NXT 2r1 but regardless, with that rom i've been able to play emulator games and heavy intensive games such as Fifa 2012. I'd only imagine the 'NXT Gaming rom' is faster and better but since i haven't tried it, i'm unable to give you a direct response, sorry. Anyways Gingerbread will always be the best in terms of gaming performance and functionality, but if you're able to find a good ICS rom that is smooth when playing games such as GTA then it's entirely up to you whether you want to stay on ICS or not. Also correct me if i'm wrong but i remember GTA3 (not san andreas) being playable on gingerbread.
Correct, GTA3 DOES work on Gingerbread, but unfortunately only this one and Vice City do so. GTA San Andreas and Chinatown Wars will not work on anything lower than ICS. This is an example anyway, cuz there are few more things that I need and will work only on ICS.
Anyways, guess what. I've tried YET another Rom from a portuguese site (rom is Fusion ICS 2.4), and the problem stopped - apps no longer spontaneously shut down. There's another problem though... as this system is ridiculously unstable. Sometimes it's fast as lightning, then sometimes it slows down to a crawl for no reason - it has nothing to do with active apps; it often happens with no active apps running and with tons of free ram available. It's completely random. Even the interface sometimes crashes for no reason. Curiously though, all games run extremely fast and they never shut down on their own. Unfortunately, it's not worth using such a train wreck. Games running well while the rest of the system goes haywire defeats the purpose for me.
I'd give "ICS Ultimate" rom a try, but for some reason, I get virus alerts when trying to download or open the file. I guess I'll either wait until it's confirmed false alert, or go for GB roms finally.
