Hi Guys, just got a note 2, and i have a quick question.
It has L900VPAMC2 verson software on it (4.1.2). Should i hold off doing the OTA if i plan on Rooting and ROM-ing?
Previous experience with Samsung phones tells me 4.3 brings knox, locked bootladers....and problems.
Thanks!
Congrats on your Note 2! Yes you are correct on 4.3 bringing knox and the locked bootloader which means no custom kernels like perseus which is awesome. 4.3 is rootable and I believe you can revert back to MC2. Theres great roms for MC2 and MA7 which im currently on and have the newest MK4 modem installed. Let me know if you want the link to easily root your note 2 using mskips toolkit.

Only reason to worry about MK4 at all is if you intend on running Touch wiz MK4 builds....otherwise if you want 4.4 now just go root and flash aosp.

Yes please! Thanks. I see that Framaroot would technically work, however rooting from the phone itself seems so.....unelegant.
Thanks!

Yeah I love using the toolkit. It installs everything for you so easily including custom recovery. There is no option under sprint mc2 but you can select ma7 and it will root your phone just fine. Tried it a couple times already while on mc2.

Do any of the non-TW builds have any S-Pen functionality (Air Command, etc)?

Just got a new note 2 but it is still on ICS.
Root now and unlock bootloader or do an OTA to jellybean first?
If I should root now what is the best method?
Thanks in advance
i doubt there is any Note II that actually launched with a stock ICS. Note II only came with JB.
You could check out the toolkit on this thread. it should be able to help you, its very simple to use

Note 2 is kinda hard to get fixed up. (kinda funny mixing up the word fixed for mixed now that I look at it)
It is JB. The rep said it was ICS and JB was going to download at 10:30, she must be talking about an update.
Is getting root through ExynosAbuse APK v1.40 different than the tool kit?

Hi, as the title said, my question is what is the latest firmware on the Note currently if I purchased now. Is it 4.3 with locked bootloader like the Galaxy s3 with Knox? If it's, is it possible to flash custom firmware? Thanks.
Yes it has 4.3. It has Knox bootloader as well if that matters. There is TWRP recovery, custom kernel by Bid Droid, custom ROM by Scotts ROM called Clean ROM V2 R2.

It and the older note 10.1 2012 version are both on list to get kitkat 4.4.2. ..no clue when it would drop but I'm sure Clean ROM will have it before it's out for mainstream. It's on ML1 currently

Thanks for quick reply, I thought that if it came with locked bootloader then how can we unlock? like the S3, we unable to unlock we need to use safestrap to install custom rom, is it the same case as the Note? sounds like it's not.

Scotts clean ROM is adapted for US to ML1. Like I said custom ROM. The stock is MK1, correct.

It's still not clear, I thought MK1 (4.3) has a locked bootloader, and no one could unlock the bootloader yet, so how can we able to flash custom rom??
I shall do my best to clarify of what I know. I have the note 10.1 2014 sm-p600, wifi only. I'm located in the US. I had android 4.3 on it. I had used Kies to update to MK1 since I had already tripped Knox and don't care. Even prior to MK1, I used Odin'd Cf - auto root, and Odin'd TWRP custom Recovery. For a long time there were nobody developing anything for the tablet. SCOTTS clean ROM undertook the task and made a custom ROM with stock kernel. Then as time progressed Bid Droid entered with a custom kernel. He also made his own rom, but I'm not sure if that is for P601 or p605 models. I refer you to the note 10.1 2014 android development thread for more detailed info. Scott was able to incorporate ML1 firmware into his ROM. Yes ML1, think it was Taiwan, wasn't released in the US but I see no problems as far as country specific or anything on a wifi only tablet. He knows what he is doing as a proven developer. If none of what I am saying makes any sense, I would advise you to look deeper in Note 10.1 2014 android develop thread. I hope this may have helped clarify. I tried to anyways.

Hello All,
I just bought a galalxy note 2, which has Macksrom allstar 5.0, which seems to be based off 4.1.2. I really want to safely unroot and upgrade to stock 4.3. I have a system update available. Is it ok to just use that to update? I know on some phones, you cant and must use odin and stock firmware. What is the right way to do this?
Thx!

Hey guys,
I've got a Galaxy S4 on T-mobile in the UK, with the build XXUEMKF. Its Rooted but its running stock JellyBean 4.3 Ive not taken any OTA updates as im looking to install a safestrapped Custom Rom. Just needed some help to make sure I don't soft brick the phone lol.
Im looking to install the Deadly Venom V3.0.2 KitKat SafeStrapped edition in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45657764&postcount=4
Few noob questions though if anyone could help me..
1) The thread title says its for the AT&T version but Im on t-mobile UK, is this going to be a problem or would it still work without bricking the phone?
2) Its got 2 different install instructions, one for people who have the Mk2 build and another process for people with the Nb1 build. I have neither, I have the MKF build..Can I still install this rom on my S4? If so, should I follow the instructions for the Mk2 Method?
3) Im running Stock JellyBean 4.3 right now, can I still install this safestrapped rom or do I need to do an OTA update to the latest KitKat update? Kies says the latest update I can do is Nb3 apparantly?
I hope someone can give me some simple answers to this, Im quite confused. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks guys
You can flash from 4.3. I'm on MK5 bootloader t mobile and I just clean flashed with no problems so far

The model number is GT-i9505. Only reason I want to use a safe strapped rom was to avoid tripping knox because my phones still under warranty
Should I follow the install method 1 instructions as if my device was a mk2 version straight from my stock 4.3?

Ah I see.. Well not sure I don't think many of us here use that method and I'm not familiar with it.. You should try asking in a safestrap thread if there is one on the at&t forums.. Not sure if it would even work with your model, better safe than sorry!

It will flash on your device (it says so in the OP) as for tripping KNOX I would do what serio suggested

So the s5 community got root the other day and the Dev says that it should work on other phones with kernels before June 3 2014 his Knox status also reads 0x0 so I guess his warranty is still in tact..... So anyone wanna try this on our phone and see if it passes through http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2783157

I could be wrong, but I remember reading some S3 users stating it didn't work. It does work on the ATT S4 but ONLY on the NEWEST NC1 firmware update that came out (4.4.2) but did NOT work on the previous NB1 firmware (also 4.4.2).
It is worth a try as it will NOT brick your phone. If it doesn't work it will just let you know it is not rooted.

But you see the problem is the Knox flag I'm still in warranty for a whole year and I don't want to lose it because of root
