Note 2 on ICS advise needed - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just got a new note 2 but it is still on ICS.
Root now and unlock bootloader or do an OTA to jellybean first?
If I should root now what is the best method?
Thanks in advance

i doubt there is any Note II that actually launched with a stock ICS. Note II only came with JB.
You could check out the toolkit on this thread. it should be able to help you, its very simple to use

Note 2 is kinda hard to get fixed up. (kinda funny mixing up the word fixed for mixed now that I look at it)
It is JB. The rep said it was ICS and JB was going to download at 10:30, she must be talking about an update.
Is getting root through ExynosAbuse APK v1.40 different than the tool kit?

Rooting process the same for the T-Mobile T989 and Koodo T989D?

Hi everybody, I recently got a Koodo Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T9898D and I wanted to know if the rooting process for my device is the same as the rooting process for the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989. I realize there is no section for Koodo's (or Telus') version of the phone on the website, so I had to post here.

You betcha! There is a forum here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514434
I used this method and it worked great! Just make sure you use the 3.0.7 efghi signed version of Superuser. I managed to use the other one, but i got the superuser app, but no root access until I used the correct version
Anyway, there you are. Enjoy your SII X!

thanks! I was going to use that guide or the galaxy 2 root "How to Root ICS/GB on T-Mobile Galaxy S2 SGH-T989!"
but both should work though. The guide you sent me says it's for 4.0.3, will it work for 4.0.4? And you're with Koodo right?

I used the guide on Android forums, only because there were pics, but both work and are the same. And yes, same procees, just use the Superuser 3.0.7 efghi signed version. And yup! No issues with Koodo whatsoever.

Oh okay, so did you use the process from the link you sent? And it seems the main difference between the two guides is that one uses Superuser 3.0.7 efghi signed version and one uses CWM-SuperSU-v0.87.zip. While they both should work, I was wondering what the differences between the Superusers were; I think 0.87 is better because it is compatible with future firmware upgrades

Well, there was a link to this guide on that forum -
http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-...d-ultimate-root-optimization-guide-steps.html
I used this guide only because it had a few more details than the other, but they are essentially the same steps. Also had some pics.
And about the superusers, i don't know the difference. However I was able to install superSU from the Play Store and also update the superuser version I was using after I obtained root.
So to answer your question, I have no idea haha. Personally I think it would be best to follow the guide, and then try to upgrade after rooting, but it's your choice.
Hopefully this helps, but if not, search is your friend

I sure was. I'm still using it because a few of the ICS roms are a little buggy. I've heard Jedi Mind Trick is pretty good tho. I just wanted something stable and bug free Stock with root woo!
And a little question. I think you are using one too many 8's. Your phone an SGH-T989D correct?

Telus T989D here and flashed using the method in the 2nd post worked perfectly. Used TWRP instead of CWM, rooted easily, even flashed radios (so I could unlock my SIM) back and forth, and installed AOKP.

Hey. i now you are saying that the rooting proccess is the same but do you know if all of the roms and customizations are the same? i am wanting to put CyanogenMod 10.1 RC3 on my Koodo Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T9898D but everything i am seeing is for T-Mobile.
Model number: SGH-T989D
Android version:4.1.2
any other details needed to find out which will work just let me know.
generally everything is mostly the same the only thing you might have issues with is your data you might have to find the APN settings for KODO and make sure to flash the newest radio MC6

You can use Odin to put CWM to ur phone, then flash Super user. All those files and step by step guideline is available as sticky notes in our forum.

Where is the option to unlock and flash stock unbranded android?
By stock Android do you mean a version of Cyanogenmod? I don't know if it is yet available for our phones. If by unbranded you mean a Samsung Touchwiz based rom with the Samsung apps removed, then that can be done by visiting the Development forum for this device. There are Touchwiz based custom roms to be found there.
Welcome to the Galaxy Note 2 and good luck.

If by unlock you mean for any carrier this worked perfectly for me on stock rom.

[Q] Please help me root a 'new' Note 2...

Hi all,
I just moved from a Galaxy S2 to a near new Note 2. I rooted the S2 a long time ago.
Now I like to root the Note 2. At this moment, I just want to root it so that I can
run Titanium backup, remove ads, remove bloatware etc...
I searched and read through may be several hundred posts but I'm more confused than ever.
Please give me some pointers and I will go from there. I know what Odin, CWM are but my memory
is outdated as the last time i used them to root my S2 was Oct 2012 and never touched them ever since.
Thank you very much in advance. I appreciate all your help.
mike

(Q) Better to update to KitKat and then root?

I just got my sister the Note 2, should I update it to KitKat and then root, or root and then update? Any quick tutorials? I haven't done anything for a while so I'm rusty, but I still know enough to flash her phone.
I just don't know where to start.

Ok, are u talking about T-mobile note 2(T889) or Int note 2(n7100)? which model.....?
But since its on this thread, i'll assume its the T889, and no, we dont have any official kitkat update ....yet or never.
U might wanna try some kitkat roms from the n7105 threads or the at&t threads, but u might loose some few features like wifi-calling .
