FM Radio Built in FM radio Yes
Camera resolution Significantly higher resolution camera 13 MP vs 8 MP Take photos with more than 60% more detail for larger prints
Internal storage Significantly more internal storage 32 GB vs 16 GB 2x more internal storage, which means more music, photos and movies

Thinking about purchasing a Gnex

Hey so I am currently using a desire HD rooted running aosp and I love the phone.... the only problem is the battery life ...
I have been thinking about a gnex for a long time .... is struggle to get 12 hours out of this phone without charging through out the day and its killer..
How is the gnex battery life.. are the 5mp pictures still pretty good? And would it be worth getting or should I wait to see the sgs 3 and htc one xl?
Thanks for any input
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA
Gnex is a killer for sure and the 5mp camera is really amazing for 5mp. As for your conserns about battery life you get a full day with about 3-6 hours screen on time depending how you use it with standard battery!
The quality of photos has nothing to do with megapixel.
MP only determines how pixelated your photo will look if you enlarge it and how much it can be enlarged before you start noticing pixels. Of course there's a threshold when smaller mp greatly reduced the quality of photos, but 5 is far away from it.
In short, photos look great.
Battery life is meh, like most smartphones out there.
The newer phones will always have newer technology and better specs, so the wait is never-ending. If you just ask me whether this phone is worth getting now, then the answer is yes, absolutely.

Battery is "meh" on the Verizon LTE Galaxy Nexus. Battery on GSM Galaxy Nexus is fine.
And agreed with technology and specs. Don't beat the hardware race, beat the software race

All the replies have been great and with the GSM version of the Galaxy Nexus, I do agree that photo quality (instant pictures) is good and battery life has been great for me (coming from Sprint EVO 3D-CDMA).
The only other factor not mentioned has been the price. Not sure if you're purchasing the device subsidized from a carrier with a 2 yr contract or purchasing off contract, but there are certain pricing points with the life cycle of phones in addition to personal budget contraints which could factor into the decision.
The Galaxy Nexus seems to be at a decent price now having been released back in December, the *premium* price for a brand new device, at least for the GSM version, has fallen a bit.
Also, the time frame around the new device release dates could factor into the pricing and timing of waiting or purchasing a new device.
There is an old saying, a bird in hand is worth two in the bush, meaning having it now can be better than waiting on the prospects of something in the future.
All factors to take into consideration! As a side note, would be great to see a device with the off contract and on conract/subsidized prices over time to see where the "sweet" spots are.
Hope that helps more to the great feedback!
The thing about battery life on these newer smartphones is that your usage choices will dramatically affect battery life, and the gnex is no exception. With the screen brightness turned down and 4G turned off, I can get 4 hours of screen-on time. Turn the brightness up on this huge screen or use the 4G or get in an area of bad reception or any number of other things, and that number can drop to 2 hours pretty quickly. But since its a Nexus, there are lots of kernels out there that can increase these numbers, again depending on your usage.
As an aside, this thing sleeps very well. It would probably last two days on stand-by if I didn't charge it up every night.
The gsm nexus gets superb idle time on battery, but the screen drains quick. So for me it averages out great. The time my phone sits on my desk between usage basically stays dead flat. So usage of like 20 min hear and there gives me great battery life. 8 hour work day i have 50% left, with about 1.5 hour actual screen time.
Thanks for all the feedback guys ... I really appreciate it!
When I have data on and brightness well below 50% I usually see the battery drop 10-15% or more in 15 minutes.... so I'm sure the gnex would be better..
The only thing that I'm worried about is the camera but I have 14 days to see if I like it...

Does removing Sense 4.0 = Stock ICS?

Hi, I see options for uninstalling sense in some ROMs. If I do so, will I be left with stock ICS? If not, why not and what would I gain by trying to go with something like cyanogenmod?
I am mainly interested in losing Sense b/c I hear that it's a battery hog.
Thank you!
No, as Sense is more than just the launcher. It'll be as close as you go get without using an AOSP-based ROM
Not exactly
It will still have HTC elements in it
Thanks, can you answer what the expected battery life improvement would be in going from a senseless ROM to an AOSP based rom like cyanogenmod? Just roughly...I'm trying extremely hard to explore every avenue possible to like my One X...it's just that the battery life is very poor (maybe it's wrong of me, but I use my one x exactly like I used to use my iphone 4, and there is definitely a big difference). Currently operating under the assumption that these issues are fixable by flashing ROMs. Otherwise, considering the S4 processor USA versions; otherwise, I may have to sit this round of Android out and try again next year.
There will be a difference. Apple only has to get iOS working on 2 devices - Android has to work on hundreds.
It's unlikely an Android-based handset will do the same as your iPhone and have the same battery life - sad as that is
Having said that, my One X goes from 7am-11pm (with light usage) and will still have 50%+ left when I charge it up
iPhone?
Your iPhone had 1 processor core, with a screen lesser by > 1.5 inches. I have stock ROM lasts atleast 1.5 days with 1.2 hour call time and 2 hours of screen time.

Thanks, I will adjust downward my expectations.
Have you guys seen the anandtech review? http://www.anandtech.com/show/5779/htc-one-x-for-att-review/3
You will notice in the review's battery life section that the One X outperforms the iphone 4 and even the 4s, despite the much larger screen (it does have a larger battery than the iphone 4/s) and the 4 cpus. This is what has been solely responsible for my expectations.
I realize that we have the international version, which performs more poorly, but I'm not getting anywhere close to what I assumed that I'd be getting. Somewhere around 2.5 hours of screen time, if used at max brightness, is what I'm getting. I used the iphone 4 at max brightness and I'm certain that I got double the battery life. It seems like my biggest mistake was owning the iphone for two years first. Didn't realize how much I value battery life until I made the switch. I'll still try my best to keep the faith android.

Is your phone getting hot under the camera? If yes, try this :
1. Turn Wifi Off
2. Turn Mobile data/3G off
3. Turn either Wifi On or 3G as you wish.
See if it gets cooler under the camera. It happened with me and this trick did it for me.

[Q] Z1 C Battery Life

Hi All
I'm set and ready to buy this device or the Nexus 5 ( 32gb variant )
And I was wondering how long the battery would last for a light user like me who removes all the bloatware on the phone ( All of them )
I also never use 3G or 4G and always on 2G...WI-FI is never or rarely used and I plan to underclock it to 1.7Ghz because ( even Xperia Z a 5" Phone is only running 1.5 I see no point of making a 4.3" phone run max speed )
And of course I don't install FB and Twitter on my phone my gaming habits are kept to a 10-15 Minute mark and most of the time the phone is just in my bed and i pull it out to watch some 720p vids
Will it last really long for me
Thanks alot guys :good:
With that use case, I really don't see why you'd need this phone at all, or any smartphone really. It would be like using your Ferrari only to drive to the mailbox and back.
Save yourself the money and get a Moto G instead - it has a better screen & epic battery life and is more ergonomic, plus you could buy 3 of them for the price of a Z1C Or go for the Nexus 5 and use it as a phablet with a beautiiful 1080p but battery-sucking screen.
With the use you mentioned probably 3 days easily.
Light use probably last you more than 3 days. Yeah, agreed with ghtop that you won't fully utilized Z1C at all and only longer battery life. I would suggest Moto G to save some $.

WHY THE ROG PHONE 2 IS THE BEST OVERALL PHONE RIGHT NOW ? LET'S TALK...

HI EVERYONE
I'M THE CREATOR OF NUMEROUS POSTS OF ROG PHONE 2 . AFTER ALMOST TWO YEARS I REALIZE THAT THIS PHONE IS THE BEST FOR MY NEEDS . I'VE TESTED MORE THAN 50 SMARtPHONES EVEN MI 10 PRO AND THEY AMAZING JBL SPEAKERS( THIS IS THE LATEST I HAD) BUT BATTERY IS NOT AS GOOD AS ROG , SPEAKERS AREN'T VERY LOUD BUT GOOD QUALITY AND BASSES.... BUT LET'S TALK ABOUT THIS ROG WHY IS BETTER
- IT HAS VERY SOLID BUILD QUALITY. GORILLA GLASS 6 , GLASS AND METAL COMBO, 7000 SERIES ALUMINIUM( ROG PHONE 5 IS WELL COSTRUCTED BUT IT BEND MORE EASILY THAN IPHONE 6 PLUS AND IT'S UNACCETABLE FOR 899$ PHONE.
-FIRST ROG WITH 6000MAH BATTERY THAT CAN LAST UP TO 2 DAYS, EVEN 3 WITH 60 HZ AND DARK THEME!
-IT HAS 3.5MM JACK WITH EXCELLENT QUALITY AND EQ (I REALLY MISS ON ROG PHONE 3 AND MOST HIGH END SMARTPHONES)
-IT HAS PROBABLY THE LOUDEST SPEAKERS I' VE EVER HEARD WITH VERY GOOD QUALITY AND CLARITY+ OUDOOR MODE THAT BOAST TREBLE ( ROG 3 DOESN'T HAVE THIS AND ALSO QUIETER SPEAKERS WITH SIMULATED BASSES)
-IT HAS 2 STRONGER VIBEATOR MOTORS ( MOST PHONE INCLUDED ROG 3 HAS ONLY 1)
-4 WIFI ANTENNAS, 4 MICROPHONES
-FIRST 10BIT OLED HDR 120 HZ, 240HZ SAMPLING RATE DISPLAY WITH VERY GOOD DELTA ( QHD IS NOT NECESSARY UNLESS YOU USE VR, AND IT CONSUME MORE BATTERY AND LOWER THE FPS) 90HZ IS THE STANDARD BASE FOR 2020, FROM 60 YOU WILL NOTICE A DIFFERENCE. 120 IS RECCOMEDED , 144 IS ONLY FOR EXTREME GAMING AND DRAIN A LOT. BUT UI,SOCIAL,GAMES BEST IS 120 FOR EYES
-RGB LOGO. THIS IS COOL FOR NOTIFICATION, DURING NIGHT , IT'S A DISTINGUISHABLE SPEC THAT PEOPLE WILL NOTICE.
-18W CHARGING WILL DEGRADE BATTERY LOWER THAN FAST CHARGER LIKE 65W OR 120 AND MY TIP IS TO CHARGE UP TO 80%. THIS PHONE ALSO SUPPORT 30W. SINCE THE BATTERY IS 6000 MAH I RECCOMEND BOTH . BOTH ARE SAFE
-FIRST ROG WITH ALMOST STOCK ANDROID.ANDROID 9 IS LATEST ROM THAT SUPPORT ALSO GLTOOL ( FUTURE PROOF TOOL FOR GPU DRIVERS) AND ALSO ANDROID 9 HAS RW SISTEM. I RECCOMEND THIS ROM BECAUSE A10 IS NOT AS OPTIMIZED AS A9 AND IT' S HAS LOTS OF PERMISSION THAT MADE MODS, APPS NOT COMPATIBLE. BATTERY IS ALSO BETTER IN A9
-AIRTRIGGERS
-FAST UFS 3.0 STORAGE, LOTS OF RAM STORAGE, LAG FREE DEVICE. COSTANT PERFORMANCE
-2 PORTS. USB 3.1 AND 2.0 FOR CHARGING AND REVERSE CHARGING
-GOOD CAMERA EIS( WITH GCAM YOU WILL DO MUCH BETTER PHOTOS AND VERY STABLE 60FPS VIDEOS)
- VERY FAST 855+ PROCESSOR DON'T OVERHEAT AND BETTER TEMPS THAN LATEST 800 SERIES SOCs.
-BEST ROG EVER MADE FOR AESTETIC ( ORANGE ACCENTS ON THE BACK AND THE SPEAKERS, BACK COVER HAS METAL COLOR, MORE COLORFUL ACCENTS ON THE BACK AND MORE SQUARE CAMERAS AND FRAME, IT HAS MORE GAMING LOOK.
THE CONS THAT NOT AFFECT MY DECISION TO BUY AGAIN THIS PRODUCT:
-NO IP RATING, FOR NORMAL USE LIKE RAIN IS PROTECTED SINCE THERE IS NO DIRECT CONTACT TO MOTHERBOARD
-NO WIRELESS CHARGING, I DON'T NEED AND USE I PREFER 3.5 MM JACK THAN THIS..
-NO OIS FOR CAMERA , GCAM WILL FIX THIS WITH NIGHT MODE AND THEIR AMAZING SHOTS AND VIDEOS ( MORE THAN ENOUGH FOR A GAMING PHONE)
-NO DDR5 RAM OR LATEST SOC: 855 PLUS IS PROBABLY THE BEST SOC SINCE DOESN'T OVERHEAT A SINGLE DAY. IT'S MORE EFFICIENT THAN 865 OR 888. THESE OVERHEATS AS LOT OF REVIEWS. DDR4 RAM IS VERY GOOD IF YOU HAVE 8/12 GB ON A PHONE. NO DIFFERENCE IN REAL LIFE.
-NO 8K. NO NEED SINCE PANEL IS FULL HD AND YOU NEED 8K TV FOR SEE THE VIDEO RECORDED
-NO 5G. IT'S FASTER BUT DEPEND BY COUNTRY COVERAGE. THIS WILL DRAIN MORE BATTERY AND MAKE DEVICE HOT. FOR ME IS ENOUGH 4G+ SINCE IS MORE MATURE TECNOLOGY FOR MY NEEDS
-NO SD CARD( BUY 128 OR 512/1T STORAGE NO PROBLEM)
-WEIGHT( THIS IS VERY BALANCED ON ROG 2 TAKE CONSIDERATION OF THAT)
i bought again from giztop at very good price new for 459$ 8/128 gb is a lot for me and i SUGGEST as base in 2021 64gb at least, RECCOMENDED 128GB
i will modify some my post to get best possible user experience on this phone

Are there xda awards for the most useless posts? I nominate yours.
Considering the dying PM 8150 chip state I would dare say it's literally impossible to argue that the rog2 is the best phone.
Now, because of this post, i will search and buy ROG phone 2 right away

Nice promotion, next time please include your optimal stock rom version.
Now I'm pondering to choose in dozens of different versions, Android 9 vs 10 vs 11...
Now, I have a vague understanding such at this:
Android 9 has best battery life but a lot of bugs, choose version carefully
Android 10 is worst
Android 11 has medium battery life, new features, a lot of incompatible apps that bring bugs like battery draining...

11 has battery life better than 10 and the same as 9. I'm not aware of a single incompatible app with 11.

Obviously my impressions with "latest updates" are very bad.
Every time an Android device update (or being forced to), battery life always downgrade or shortened, because phone providers want you to feel sluggish, slowed, outdated, inconvenient with your devices. Then you would want to buy newer models after 3 years.
My friends all used Oppo and Samsung. First stock roms always have best battery life and smoothest experience. Then things went down until 2-3 years later, when every devices become all laggy, jittery, battery hungry.

Ok now I updated my experience so far for Android 11:
2201.211 rom: Cannot root, even if I installed Magisk 24.3 FIVE times - yes I tried so many times and ways to install root
2111.160 rom: Can root after installing Magisk 24.3.
- I then used Mantis Gamepad Pro to use PS5 controller. After 2 days it stopped recognizing inputs.
- Without Mantis Gamepad Pro, I can use PS5 controller but of course cannot map properly in-game
- Battery draining rate with Bluetooth is very fast (even when the only app opened is Mantis Gamepad Pro + Ebook reader), -80% battery in 3 hours
=> I'm back to 1910.35 for Android 9 - doubled battery saving, better performance, no Mantis Gamepad Pro bugs
Also, I need to update two bugs in Android 11:
+ It does not accept chargers from other brands, for me it's TWO different Samsung 18W charger (Android 9 accepted them normally).
+ It does not accept charging after being drained to 0%. I accidentally slept when reading ebook, making it drop from 50% to 0% during the night.
Next day, no matter what kind of charger (Oppo, Samsung, Asus), it flashed green charging circle for 0.5s then screen off. I had to charge using Asus charger for 1 hour to bring it to 1%, then held Power key to enter OS. Then it did NOT accept charging, I had to re-plug Asus charger again to make it recognize charging.

Android 11 has Accessibility bug that's not been fixed in any rom
Fake Camera app also cannot work on Android 11
Besides the better System UI and keyboard switching button - I cannot find a reason why Android 11 is better.
Android 9 consumes 5% per 30 min gameplay
Android 11 consumes 20% per 30min gameplay
This is a huge difference man.
However, Android 9 System UI would often stop working for 5-10s if I use older apps in 2018, which is a little annoying.

Question Google Pixel 6 (Pro) an "flagship" phone...

So, I have some Nexus and Pixels phones in the past, and went to OnePlus, 3, 5, 6 and 7 (Pro).
I still have the 7 Pro with 12GB RAM and 256 GB memory, I bought this due the pop up camera (privacy) and stock ROM experience.
Fine, now I'm consedering buying the 6 or 6 Pro, but what I find weird is, why is this nice Tensor chipped phone named a "Flagship"?
Like, some competitors have 65W, 100W, 125W battery charge possibilities and this phone is still stuck on 30W, what even isn't maybe 100 true.
Still try to find a reason, because all the rest is nice...

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra has 25 W "fast" charging. Yeah, the charging may not be the fastest (it takes about hour and half to two hours) to fully charge the phone. Or you can get used to charging overnight with Adaptive Charging feature.
It's called Flagship, because it has flagship cameras, performace can be called flaghsip-y still, it has flagship 4K 120 Hz OLED (Pro version), flagship sounding stereo speakers, flagship haptcis and so on. The software support is the best, but be careful and test everything out - you may get a lemon in terms of display or connectivity (December update should fix it). Mine P6P is flawless.
