Hi everybody,
I am entering uni soon (engineering major) and I need a device to write quick notes and equations I know the note series are perfect for that.
But the question is should I wait for note 3 or buy note 2
(I can wait, but if you encourage me to buy the note 2 I will buy it)
P.s- my course starts at 15 september
You will not be disappointed with the Note 2. It depends on your financial situation I guess. The Note 2 can be had for quite a reasonable price at the moment, and the Note 3 will be considerably more expensive at release. It's also not likely to be readily available by the time you start your course.

My suggestion if you can shell out money wait for note 3 initially it would b expensive thats y.

Note 3 is going to have a bigger screen between 5.7 to 5.9, release date is rumoured as August end or Oct. Its going to be a octacore with 3gig ram so definetly going to be expensive. If note takin is your objective go for Note 8.

Note8.0 is better choice.

If you primarily want the thing for writing notes, then get the Note 2 now. The Note 3 won't be any better at "writing notes". Save your money, you won't regret it.
Note 2 is still a damn good valid device! It's not old or slow or anything.
Note 3 will be better, as usual, but with that comes a hefty price tag.
Note 8 is larger and is probably better suited for note taking as the Note 2 / 3 are primarily phones and then pen oriented. So while they can take notes VERY well, to use it as a note taking device? I don't know... I would rather have a dedicated device to take notes at the university. Plus 5.5 inches isn't too much space to be taking notes...
Depends. If you really need a phone. Go for it. But if you can wait a few more months, wait for Note III. I just bought a Note II a couple of days ago and I'm really happy with it.

I think it would be four month at least until he get an opportunity to put hands on Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Depends from the country he is living.....
So, I agree with you. If you need a phone just go and buy. Note 2 still a GREAT, GREAT superphone.

You will not be able to put hands on Samsung Galaxy Note 3 when your course stars at 15th of September. Moreover, it would be very pricey when they start selling Note 3 in October or November.
So, if you have money go and buy Note 2. Still a great superphone.

I don't think the Note 2 will be outdated for a while. And for the price it is now, with all the advantages like screen size, stylus, massive battery and speedy performance, it's a no brainer. Go for it.
I'm actually in the same situation. Got an s2 but wanna upgrade to Note. But I'm in Australia and may be very late in year before it comes out. So I think the Note 2 is more value for money at this stage.
Does anyone know if it's worth getting the Note 2 NT 7105 LTE model rather than 7100? Thanks too

I considered the same question, and decided against the LTE version. For one, I'm not out and about downloading heavily. The non-LTE Note 2 I have has Speedtested at around 14mbps at times, which is plenty for me. And being a tinkerer, the 3G version has FAR more ROMS and kernels available than the LTE version.

Yeah thanks for that advice. I'm a little of a tinkerer too and am erring towards the non LTE version. Any good and stable rom suggestions?

Try em all and decide, 'good' differs from person to person Nandroid is great for that.
Probably the biggest decision is going with a Touchwiz/Samsung based ROM, or an AOSP based ROM. There are pros and cons of each type (specifically stylus and multi-window functions related to framework changes). A quick search on this subforum will net you all the information you need.
I tried a bunch of TW ones, and a bunch of AOSP ones, and settled on Slimbean. Simple and functional, with very minimal memory/space overhead, a bit how I've setup my PC (using XFCE). Good luck with it all.

Think you made a good call there mate. The Note 3 will be expensive until some point midway through next year and the N7100 is still one of the best devices out there.

Don´t do the same mistake we did !
There may be an update to KitKat but it would be the last update. (ASUS releases much more updates than Samsung)
And building custom ROMs for the 10.1 variant, is (at this time) unpossible because of the Intel chipset.
If you don´t care about these aspects, it´s still a powerfull tablet for working with documents or watching streams, movies.

Was, why did you bother even asking the question if the Tab 3 was worth the purchase of you had already purchased it. Yes, the Tab 3 was a mistake, not only is this tablet very laggy do to TouchWiz not being optimized for x86 (should have given you hint when they haven't released another model with this cpu as of yet) but the system only leaves 300mb of memory available to apps. Samsung has been promising Kit Kat for ever and at this point it looks like it will never happen, not only that but the custom ROMs are few to none, with most being abandoned. Sell this piece of crap and my suggestion, would be to never buy another midtier Samsung tablet again. They just don't care, once they release a tablet it's forgotten and layed to the side for the next 20 Samsung released that week. Even the new Tab 4 is a waste of money, the Tab 4 should have been what the Tab 3 was, so it's already obsolete, their just fast-food tablets.
If you check out the general forum the majority of threads are for the 7 inch model, why anyone in their right mind would buy such a piece of garbage is beyond me but you know it's bad when Samsung's cheapest model gets updated before the higher end model and I use that term lightly.
Spend a little money and buy something decent, checkout some of the new Windows 8 tablets they are very good and are reasonably priced.

I know this is G Pro thread but one day all of us will get another phone. The G pro has been a awesome device. The best phone I have ever had. But I want a new one. So I want the Nexus 6 or Note 4. I am asking yall which one. Yalls advice would be appreciated. I am stuck on deciding both are good. I went into att and looked at both. The note 4 has all the bells and whistles. The nexus 6 is big I like. The Nexus will get all the updates first. The Note 4 will not which really does not matter since we root and flash our phones. I would love to hear yalls input on this thanks.

i feel the need to get another phone myself, been thinking on the note 3 before im not able to get from att, and the final price of these phones are getting rediculous, i paid 389 for the g pro, the note 4 is 825! nexus 6 on att 683, my dilemma is note 3 is 699 final and a lil outdated to some, but i have to do the next plan on att so its a matter of how much im willing to spend in taxes. i dont have the money to drop these prices on the phone outright so att being my carrier gotta go with what ya can afford. have an expensive phone and drive a rollscanhardly or save some loot and drive a spark..... decisions decisions! 825 for the note 4! that damn thing better read my mind, play ps4 and xbox games, and get me high at the same time. oh and make bacon too

I'm staying
I am staying with the g pro I'm not changing phone till there no more custom roms left. There some people that don't even have smartphone.
I'll be staying with the OGP till there are quality 64-bit devices worth buying.
If I had to choose today between the nexus 6 and the note 4, I would take the Nate 4 due to:
1. Screen quality
2. Better battery life
3. Removable battery
4. SD
5. S-pen, adds some benefits
Nexus 6 is about the development community more than anything though, there should be plenty of community support for the note 4 as well.

Did you see the new lg g 3 Vista? It is 5.7 in and it is only 375$. I mean it's not the best but it looks like a good phone. Check it out
I'd rather get 1+1 if price is a problem. Nexus 6 and Note 4 aren't very smooth (some reviews said so). Maybe because the QHD screen. And if I want a new phone, I want it to have no lag at all.
Xperia Z3 Compact is very alluring, 801 with 720p. The battery is very good too. But the screen is smaller and that might become a problem for you. I'll definitely get this device if I can't get the 1+1.
If you want to wait though, device with snapdragon 810 is around the corner (february?). Rumor also said 1+2 will be coming soon.

love those features!
note 4 has physical button to wake, it's a plus unless you have the double tap to wake.
The external SD card is a nice feature on any phone. But no devices get supported in an official way like nexus devices, both vanilla Android from Google and the various roms from the developer community both end up supporting the devices real well.
That's one of the reasons why I am leaning towards the nexus 6 because of development and updates. But that note 4 does have some cool stuff. Someone mentioned the 1+1 when that phone came out I was all on it. Thinking this is great high specs cheap price. Then they pulled this invite crap. They lost me good luck still trying to get one.
I would suggest to wait till almost quarter of next year (2015). You would see some 64 bit devices coming to the smartphone market.
At present I don't think one should spent so much money on Nexus 6 or Note 4 or even Z3.
They are all 32 bit, probably you might not notice a drastic change in you experience moving to any of these device.
Wait for 64 bit chips Snapdragon 808 or 810, wait for 4k screens coming next year.
Waiting now shall prove fruitful for you.
For now I have sold my GPro and bought a used Nexus 5 device, pretty, doing this is pretty common here.
I did not go for a new expensive phone for all the reason I just gave.

IMHO I basically see no 'usable' difference between 720p and 1080p. But that is just my view.
Further a new G Flex is now available for around $300-350, while a note 4 will cost almost double of that, so you could save tons of money for sure

Went for the OnePlus One
Since the latest information regarding the Zenfone 2 was suggesting the $199 price tag would be for the 5" 720p device, I decided to order the OnePlus One instead.
It might be that the the 5.5" 1080p model ends up costing $199, but in Belgium (where I live), I suspected it will be more expensive.
The OnePlus one has been out for quite a while now, reviews are super positive. A LOT of development is going on for it, whereas the Zenfone 2 will be brand new in March (?), no reviews at all exist about this phone (will it be any good?) and development will start slow.
Also (correct me if I'm wrong), it would take some work to port CM to the Intel x86 platform whereas the OPO runs CM natively.
I ended up paying $356 for the OPO incl shipping, which seems reasonable. If the Zenfone 2 5.5" 1080p edition with 2GB of ram ends up costing $199, it would be a super deal, but I doubt it...

well i will wait one week after the release of zenfone 2 and wait for the review of other people ...

True. Another reason for buying the OPO now is that I really needed another phone as my current one is just too slow for daily use now. If I had time I probably would wait for the Zenfone 2 to come out, wait for reviews/opinions. If you have lots of time to wait, you can wait for the OnePlus 2 (Q3 I think) too.

You will regret the OPO if you are even a minor perfectionist, and the display quality is important to you. I went through 5 of them because I wanted to love it, but all 5 had terrible yellowish bottoms of the screen.

Yes, on all 5, and some worse than others. Maybe it has something to do with my retina cones!!
Are you using the on screen navigation keys? If so it makes it much less noticeable. Try turning them off, and brightness up and use hangouts or an app with a white background. Or better yet, don't even look for it and it will never bother you.
I was almost set on a OnePlus One, but I spent the day reading about the Zenfone 2, and now I'm quite intrigued by it. I have a few questions that I hope I can receive some advice on.
1. Purely in terms of performance, how does this particular Intel chip fare against the Snapdragon 801 in the OnePlus One?
2. I keep reading comments about supposed poor battery life on Intel Atom processors, compared to the Snapdragons. Are there any concrete facts concerning this? Or is it just generally assumed that the Intel Atoms translate to poor battery life?
3. I'm concerned about the aspect of software updates and custom ROMs for the Zenfone 2. Asus apparently aren't particularly quick with OS updates, and I'm worried that the Zenfone might end up not receiving as many as something like the OnePlus One. I'd also want the option to try an alternative ROM or two, say CM, in the event I don't like Asus' factory ROM (a lot of people don't seem to like it). Do you guys think the Zenfone 2 will be restricted in that sense, being an Intel architecture as opposed to ARM?

Moorefield in the Zenfone 2 smokes the 801 and is more on par with 805. Battery shouldn't be an issue as the new Intel processors are built on 22nm FinFET vs the older 32nm planar. FinFET is what Samsung and TSMC are supposedly releasing this year with the new Samsung Exynos built on what is equivalent to 20 nm FinFET but they are calling 14nm. Anything that reads z2xxx are the older processors which I don't even know why Asus is using. The new processors are z3xxx model numbers. I had a Dell Venue 8 pro with the new Intel chip running full windows and the battery life was comparable to my iPad Air except it ran full windows
Actually it is Intel vs Snapdragon
And Dude go for OnePlus One!
Awesome phone and best specs for this price!Overall nice phone with great features.
Using ONE since 6 Months No issues Whatsoever!

@OP ask me anything everything about OnePlus One!
I'll answer any question!
I think of buying an oneplus one, but I'm concerned about some touchscreen issues that some people had.
Does anyone know if these issues have been fixed?
In my opinion, one plus is the best choice. He is good looking. He is not strong but he is famous.

many people are telling that they are facing yellow tint, touch and heating issues while playing games...
is that true..???
Hi guys i'm from italy and i'm trying to buy a tablet. Use is only university and some videos. I found this second hand (still 1 year warrancy, not really used) lg g pad 8.3 at 150€ (ie 170$, 110£ for those of you who aren't from europe )
First question is: is it an affordable price? Only wifi version
Then, i would ask you about the battery life, and if it is still good (no lagging, fluid) through everyday use. I have a nexus 5 which i consider very responsive and very good, is it comparable? And what about a comparison with the ipad mini one (in italy has the same average price of 150€ for a second hand) ? It is older but it is still a good device. Do you think lg g pad would win 10-0?
Thanks guys!
150€ is quite a good price in Italy where most tech things seem to be more expensive than normal! Against iPad mini it wins hands down except maybe screen brightness.
Nexus 5 has s800 and Adreno 330 while this has s600 and adreno 320. It's very fluid, but there's some lag here and there sometimes when playing heavy games. And it has micro sd slot, so it's great to store movies! It also has a premium build quality.
Well I bought my G pad twice the price 300€ new about 1 year ago! Go for it

thanks a lot mate, you convinced me. Btw does it have official lollipop or it is still at 4.4?
and what about custom roms? I'm used to my N5 so i have a large option does the gpad increases a lot his performances with custom roms?

Only Korea and some Asian countries have lollipop for now! Verizon version as well. The rest are still waiting for an ota. The Korean version which is the same as international version can be flashed through pc via a custom lg flash tool 2014, thread in general section! Check devpt section for other custom roms which u may want to use. There's only minor improvements in custom roms. I prefer lg rom since my phone has cm12 just to not feel bored about vanilla Android.
Most of us here are using the Korean lollipop rom since it was available back in May or else you'll have to keep waiting for an ota to appear.
Excellent price for one. I would buy in a heartbeat at that price.
yes i did, btw i'm very happy about it. Waiting for the lollipop ota

I bought mine few days ago for 250$, I know it is high price nowadays, but it was sold in my country, new straight from shop I don't like waiting a lot for electronic things.
And you know what? I am sooo happy that I did buy it, haven't touched my laptop since downloaded all the stuff for g pad (lollipop etc.)?
