[Q] Smart Cover Problem

I owned a smart cover for my galaxy note 8.0, it can work properly like sleep and wake.
But here's the problem come,
usually the cover is cover the front of the tablet, but when we use it, we will flip the cover to the back of tablet.
while the cover touched the back side of the tablet, it will also put it as sleep.
so, how to disable smart cover auto sleep?
i had tried the "Lock instantly with power key", but it required at least security of "pattern"
Any ideas?

I guess something is wrong either with your cover or device - putting the cover on the back should never put the device to sleep.
I don't recall anybody reporting similar problems here, also the small sample we have at home (2 notes + 2 covers) behaves correctly.
The best thing (although it's probably easier said than done) would be to establish which one is malfunctioning and have it replaced if possible.
otoh I would also be interested in a way to disable the cover on/off function - mine is so sensitive, that even the slight move of the front part wakes the device, causing increased battery drain and making betterbatterystats readings useless.

I have seen that happen a lot with ipad cases. Its due to a poorly designed case.

It happens all the time to me. Put it nicely in the back. Not a single bit cover the front. Shake the device a little bit. The cover hits the back of the device, make some noise and screen turns off. Magic. As if the device can sense magnet even by its back. But when it sits really tightly that no space bw it and the case, problem solved by put on some sticky tape in the back.

Smart cover problem
Still looking for a way to disable the software that causes auto sleep/wake.
The problem with some covers is that they are not authentic from the manufacturers. The original Samsung case for Note 8/N5100 has the correct magnetic power in the case flap. The other covers have a magnet that is too strong so when the flap is in the back the magnet still effects.
I surgically cut the magnet out of the cheep cover and closed it back up. Disabled auto wake with the modification. I am guessing the same could be done with the original authentic Samsung case but it is hard to cut the little magnet out because its built in seamlessly so you cant see the exact location of the magnet.

Original Samsung book cover should not have that problem. i have been using the book cover for almost five months and not facing said issue.

problem w/ magnetic cover... help!

Okay so i recently got a galaxy note 10.1 2014 ed. and i bought this ivso case for it: ww.amazon.com/Samsung-Edition-Bluetooth-Keyboard-Portfolio/dp/B00FJTV0PG
I like the case and the detachable keyboard but what i cannot stand is the effects the magnets have on the tablet. It makes it auto wake, which i guess is kind of nice, but when i fold it back around behind the tablet, it always auto locks my tablet. It also will not let me drag the drop down notification bar from the top when it is folded around the back.
Anyways, i was wondering if anyone knew of any apps or settings to disable the effects of the magnets on the tablet? I've spent hours googling and trying out different apps and whatnot but nothing helps.

What I did was get a sharp knife and take the magnet out. Stick a velcro instead.

I have same problem ,when I turn cover back,it turn the screen down . Actually ,I turn the cover back just want to hold it to pay a game. But it turn down, smart cover is not smart actually .

I folded some papers and slip it underneath the tablet in the case. It block the magnet so it won't off the screen when u flip the cover to the back.
The pen holder strap that comes with the cover is too small to hold my Wacom stylus feel. So, I got some stretchable strap, loop it and staple it to the paper. Now I can slip my stylus comfortably attachedge to the cover.

Off topic, but how do you like the Wacom feel?
I'm thinking of getting one but I read that it is not as accurate as the default stylus, unless held at a 90 degree angle (!). Is that the case?

There is a bit of offset. But it doesn't affect me much. Just write or draw like normal.
In apps like lecture notes, tgere is a setting where u can adjust the offset to make it accurate.

No. I ended up just getting a different case that doesn't have a keyboard. Since there's no magnetic keyboard, the magnets aren't nearly as strong and only affects the tablet when I open it, not when I fold it around the back.

Thanks for the speedy response. On close inspection I noticed that there is a small magnet on the front cover top left corner about 1 inch from the top. almost invisible but can find it when we run a coin over the surface of the front cover. When the back side of the note 10.1 meets this magnet, screen switches off. I noted that by placing a magazine/ booklet between the front cover and the back when using in flipped over mode: the screen does not switch off. A small victory. But wish that samsung provides a solution 2 disable this magnetic screen off feature through a menu option.

i have same problem and i fix it by take out magnate from cover. i hope found a better way for this problem

Did anyone find any way to turn off the magnetic lock and unlock function? When I backfold my cover (aftermarket), it automatically locks my tab. Which is very irritating. I have Samsung galaxy tab S5e

You'd think that the guys who make these cases would just add a small amount of padding over the magnet so it only activates the sensor on the one side... To simple an idea I guess...

I purchased a case for my Note 8.0 that says it has the auto wake/sleep function when you close the cover but it dosen't work, do I have a bad case or a bad Note(refurbished)? Where's the sensor, is it magnetic or light activated. Thanks

I believe it is magnetic since some were complaining about it disabling touch temporarily on part of the screen where the case magnet was at (only on certain cases). I have a case with the function on my Note and it works fine. Will have to check it and see where the magnet is placed.

App for auto turn on / off screen

I have a cover for my tablet - can u recommend an app to auto turn on / off screen when I open / close the cover, because HOME button is quickly wearing out! Thanks.

I seem to remember that there were several complaints about their tablets shutting off when closing a third party cover. It turned out that there were magnets in the cover that affected the on/off switch. Maybe you could do a search to find out what cover they used and buy that cover. I may have seen that post somewhere on another forum also. Try a google search also as it may turn up the post you need.

The tablet has built in functionality for this.
most folio cases have magnets in them that activate the screen when you open them.
That being said the magnet can temporarily interfere with the Waccom layer of the screen used to get Spen input. (the pen will stop reading accurately/at all in the areas affected by the magnet.)
there were a lot of reports of the magnets permanently affecting the screen but the official word is that if the magnet is removed from close proximity to the screen the issues will eventually go away. (This was a big deal a while back because even Samsungs own folio case has magnets)
note that not everyone reported the issues so I'm pretty sure it has to do with how strong the magnet in the case is.
if you use your pen a lot I would stay away from those cases.
on the other hand if you don't use the pen then it wont affect you.
There are apps to let you double tap the screen to wake it (even for android versions before it was supported) which would save the physical buttons some wear but I suspect you would take a hit on battery life with that option.

The answer to just about everything: Tasker.
There's a how-to for this particular setting here. Battery drain is pretty low, about 2% every 12 hours or so.
Only flip covers with a magnet can use the system's inbuild auto-on/off functionality. Everything else needs to use the proximity sensor.
There are three types of flip covers, two of which use a magnet.
One is a strong, single magnet. This is the cheap option and causes problems with the Wacom sensors, which are also magnetic. You'll find this in pretty much 90% of all auto-on/off covers, especially the cheaper ones. The first Samsung covers also used this method, until they figured out it was a terrible idea.
The second is a ring patterns of thin magnetic strip woven through the entire back of the cover. This is used by most expensive brands (Like Samsonite), and doesn't interfere with the Wacom sensor.
The third are the most common one: Covers without a magnet. All these do is protect your screen.

Can I use Macrodroid? And how?

Accessories Magnetic Flip Cover

My previous phone was a OnePlus 3, and it had a magnetic flip cover that would turn off the screen as soon as I shut it. I haven't found a similar product for OnePlus 9 Pro. Any pointers?

Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but I think it does not have that magnetic screen on/off option. I am also looking for a magnetic flip cover. Also for a viable solution for notifications. I think I will go for the Xperia 5 III once released, purely because of the notification light...

I probed around the screen of my OnePlus 9 Pro with a magnet, and no luck -- it doesn't seem to have a hall effect sensor like that on my previous OP5.
But not a problem -- the "Gravity Screen - On/Off" app by Plexnor (Google Play) enables flip covers to work without magnets, using the proximity sensor instead. I use the Nillkin Flip Case on my phone that way, and it all works just fine.
