I recently rooted my phone, Samsung Galaxy S4 SGH-M919, and I edited the build.prop folder to get soft keys on my device. After I restarted my phone, the wallpaper changed to all black and about every 5 seconds I would get a message saying "Unfortunately, System UI has Stopped" so then I Un-rooted my phone through SuperSU and i still ended up getting the same problem. So then I decided to Factory Reset my phone, and afterwards the problem still didnt go away, I still got the same annoying message. I don't know what to do, please help ASAP, Thanks.
Rooting wasn't the problem, it was the edit.. So you can either edit the build prop back to what it was, or restore to stock/reflash your ROM

That build.prop edit doesn't work on TouchWiz. From my research I saw that Sammy gutted the framework for the soft keys, so enabling them on TW causes nothing but problems. AOSP is the only way to have the real-deal soft keys.. you can use LMT on TouchWiz, although, to me, the whole pie thing is clunky compared to having dedicated soft keys.

I can't edit the build prop anymore, because I'm un-rooted now. Are you sure that restoring to stock ROM would make the problem go away, and if so, how would I be able to restore to Stock ROM? I have no idea how to do that, Thanks

Yes if you flash the stock ROM you'll get the original unedited buildprop.
If you made a nandroid backup, restore it(nandroid backup saves headaches ) If not you need to use Odin to flash the original firmware. What firmware are you on, mdl (4.2.2) or mk2(4.3)?

You can't edit build.prop because you're unrooted.... couldn't you just re-root, edit build.prop, then unroot again if you just didn't want root?

When I was rooted, I tried to edit the build prop, but every time I tried to open the build prop folder to delete my adjustments, My phone would just keep on crashing, saying that the System UI has stopped working, So then I just un-rooted, hoping the problem would go away, but it didn't.

I'd think that you could use adb to pull the build.prop, edit on your computer, then push the build.prop back... I mean, doing a restore would work, but I'm thinking of how to not lose your data.

I meant flashing a stock firmware image via Odin. Being you don't care about data loss, that would be the route to take.

Go to sammobile.com to find the M919 UVUEMK2 firmware.
Follow this thread. It's for returning to 4.2.2, but the premise is the exact same for restoring official 4.3 as well. Just use the newest version of Odin and instead of flashing the UVUAMDL tar, use the one you just downloaded from sammobile.

Okay, I'm in the process of downloading the firmware. I also had another question. When I go to my phone's software update to check, for an update it says "Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available" and the device status is "Custom" even though I'm not rooted anymore and If I flash the original stock ROM, will this go away, and return to its normal state?

On that note, I don't know for 100% certain but I do believe that will stay. Perhaps someone else can confirm if Triangle Away will at least remove that aspect on 4.3; I know it won't touch your KNOX counter but I'm uncertain if it does anything for your flash counter.
All that device status: Custom means, aside from warranty being void is you can't update via Kies or OTA; but you can still update (when an update is released) by downloading the firmware and flashing via Odin OR using a custom recovery and a flashable zip.

As long as you have a custom recovery (either CWM or TWRP), you will not be able to update. You could go back to 100% stock unrooted and then update, but this is not necessary and you'll be doing a lot more steps. More steps means more chances to mess something up.
Good news is that you can just install the stock Rom. Freeza always updates his thread with the most recent Stock Rooted Rom. A lot of times he comes out with it even before I get the OTA from Sprint. All you have to do is flash it in TWRP or CWM. In case you're not familiar with the procedure for doing this, please see this linked post.
Finally, OTAs are fairly common, so check out CNexus' thread on OTAs.

If you want to go back to stock completely, you will need to odin the tar file and the latest triangle away. This will set your binary and get you back to normal and then odin the stock tar. This will put you back to completely stock with a stick recovery. You should be able to update from there. There are several links to the info you need.

They don't necessarily have to use Odin and Triangle Away. Here is a thread for a recovery-flashable zip which will reset their counter and restore them back to unrooted stock.
That being said, if the only reason they want to go back to stock is to take the update, it's entirely unnecessary. Like I said before, the more steps they have to take, the more chances they have to mess something up (especially when it comes to Odin and Download mode, in my opinion). If they want to return to stock unrooted for another reason, the easiest way is to use the flashable zip.
Thanks alot for all of your help
Hi i am new to rooting and wind up loosing my stock backup, i had to flash a custom rom and used clean rom 2.0 se.
the data is very slow i went form have 20mbps down to 3mbps download speed. i have been doing some research and i think it may have something to do with my basband, apn settings, and so forth. the issue is clean rom blocks any modification to the settings.
if im on the right track im assuming i can flash a newer verion of my basband and possible my basband?
badsband is- LTE 1.4 or 1400
basband version is- I317UCALJ2
any help ill be greatful, i am a power user and paying 130 a month for the lte speed i need it.

You need the UCAMA4 baseband and the associated RIL files as well.
Are you familiar with Odin ??
The best way back to stock and keeping root is to Odin flash the stock rom.
I'll get the thread for you. ..BRB. .g
Edit. ..
Thread is on top. .Just follow the instructions provided and you'll be stock and rooted in no time.
I used this method a few days ago and it was perfect.
The device will be restored to factory software with root so back up anything you wish to keep first.
You will even have the option to go full stock from here with a few more easy steps.
Read carefully and use the appropriate files. ..g

count says 3 on anyway to set that two zero?
Yes...
By using "triangle away" from the play store.
But you would also need a stock recovery to do this, otherwise the counter will stay at 1 until you restore a factory recovery. That is done by flashing CF auto root again to give you the stock recovery.
Honestly, if you are going to stay rooted I would not worry about the counter.
It can easily be set to zero if you need to go stock for a warranty or service....g

Trying to ODIN back with official FW file (not the first time I've used this) and when I start, it fails and what is weird is that it appears the bootloader is changed as well from the 4.3 update. SW REV CHECK FAIL : Fused 1 > Binary 0. Any ideas? Phone works 100% on this new 4.3 from TMO, just cant seem to ODIN back to 4.1.2. Any help would be super. Thanks!

Is not possible for right now, until devs will create a new root app or something like superSU or I don't know ! :crying: Same to me ...
Your Boot loader is probably secured.
Try Root66 image and get back to UVDMD5 Rooted. From there, use Doc Holiday's thread to get 4.3 upgrade.
As it stands, right now if you flashed the official firmware or OTA, you will not be able to Odin flash any previous firmware. Maybe if you were never rooted....
For now though, you shoukd still be able to flash cwm/twrp and flash another rom. you will be limited to the 4.3 modem, but otherwise should be ok to run a 4.1.2 rom.
We are working on it.

This is why everyone should try to search for information on anything and everything before flashing it to your device. Even if its an official update.
As stated many, many times, once you flash the 4.3 update, you cannot flash older firmware again. Roms are ok, older firmware can brick you. Your weird folder is androids implementation of user profiles if I understand it right. May as well get used to it now, I don't think its going away.
And for those interested, the root66 firmware works fine now as far as I can tell.
If you experience instability, you need to factory reset.

Thank you Doc , It has been said ..Over and over and over.. OTA 4.3 update means you cannot flash older firmware again! I was one of the lucky that waited and installed you ROM and it has been stable . I placed a few Mods like Apps For 4.3 TW
For those just refused to READ and have NOT done a OTA update to 4.3 Like DocHoliday77 and and many have said .. here goes one more time..
WARNING!!!
If you have NOT updated via the official firmware or OTA update, it is highly recommended that you do NOT do so at this time!
You can still run these roms and gain every advantage, with none of the problems!
There so many other 4.3 ROMs to play with DocHolidays, Sarahai, mrRobinson and now aamir123. . YOu just to READ before run in head first into the OTA.
I have been trying to keep up with all the 4.3 update stuff but its just so hard with 15 different threads and it being updated everyday. I stupidly updated OTA 4.3 before coming on here and reading and it blows! Samsung is stupid for releasing such a unpolished update. But besides the point, I have been having a problem with out going calls, and battery life. When I will press to call someone the call ends instantly and I have to restart phone for it to allow me to call out. Has anyone else had this problem?
Also, are we any closer to getting 4.3 rooted? I know developers are having problems with Knox etc? If not is there anything I can do to make this update better or do I just have to suck it up? Thanks for the help guys.
I alrdy talked to people at samsung and complained beyond belief, but I dont think the out sourced help desk person understood me.
I made it !!
How ?
1. Uninstall KNOX with Titanium.
2. Flash CWM twice (first one failed), Now I have CWM.
3. Download T999UVDMD5 (Deodexed)
4. Flash it via CWM.
5. Voilà !!
Now It has the partition as it comes from Factory !.
It's there a version similar to this one, running on Android 4.3 (Stock Deodexed, Without KNOX) ?

So I have a question Doc, I know I posted about this in the CM11 unofficial thread as well, but I am running your Non-Knox, CiQ free version and I have CWM installed, and I'm perfectly rooted after I updated SuperSU from the Play Store, but when I try to CWM Flash a rom it throws an error about the ro.bootloader and it lists out all the older bootloaders. So what I guess I'm getting to is what would it take to use the new bootloaders with any of the ROMs?

If you have updated to official 4.3 by any means then don't try to downgrade your boot loader and rom as it may brick device
If you have not taken official update then it depends what is your current boot loader and what rom you are trying to flash
So if you are sure that you haven't gone for official update then you flash dmd5 firmware then try to flash rom
Be sure before doing anything

Ok so more info, I used this unroot method and followed it very close:
http://www.androidrootz.com/2012/10/how-to-unroot-samsung-galaxy-s3-no.html
I'm guessing this is what is causing the problem, I flashed the modem from UVDMD5. Only the modem I could not get anything else flash on odin so it was only the modem. So if I had to guess its a problem of getting the right modem back on the phone.
(On a side note, will I ever be able to get my phone back to 100% stock/able to get official updates, ect? Is it even possible?)
Edit: As far as the baseband goes it says "unknown".
I have no idea what that version is. I Suspect its the dreaded UVUEMJC. You will need to flash UVUEMJC Modem for T999 from this thread.
EDIT- Yes its indeed possible to go back to complete stock in order to receive Stock updates. After your IMEI is restored, you can use KIES to go back to complete stock. Please realize, you can also get latest update from Sammobile.com and flash it via Odin

Don't recall the conversation. But there is a easier way to unroot by removing SuperSU after you get your IMEI back.

You don't flash a modem that way. It can brick.

I double checked, and all KNOX APKs were still frozen.

Any idea what I should be looking for?

Thats weird i have been running nk2 all day and its been great
Maybe flash one of the ROMs with nk2 and use that as a reset to reinstall everything. Sometimes a factory reset after an upgrade is needed.

I know. That's why I know I'm doing something wrong. How did you update? Since I'm rooted, I used KIES and then reapplied my root.
Go back to stock unrooted and reroot or try a factory reset first
Exactly. Unless you were stock unrooted and installed the official OTA update, you need to do a factory reset because for some reason left over files/cache, etc, can cause these kind of problems after flashing on top of an exhisting rom. Even before flashing back to a stock rom .tar using Odin, do a factory reset on your phone AND wipe everything in recovery. Then proceed to use Odin to flash the stock rom. This has always give me the best results and I've never had any issues doing it this way. It's a "for good measure" type thing and it works.
I'll give it a shot without any shortcuts.
I should be able to restore /data from my Nandroid backup after Odining to NK2, right?
Deleted.
My phone was freezing every 5 seconds on NIE, after i update to NK2 the freezing disappear

I updated the same way you did, I was stock rooted (no other mods) and updated using Kies. I rerooted and it's been running fine.
If you update the phone using Kies while its rooted, do you know if that fixes OTA updating? Or does it just remove root again?

When I updated my rooted phone using Kies the phone's status was reset to Official. That makes me think that it would allow OTA updating next time as long as you don't re-root.
