CANT DOWNGRADE WITH ODIN. You either need to odin the MK4 or flash a custom recovery (twrp) and use billards back to stock mc2 with counter reset which will downgrade you.

oh ok awesome.. now i guess im just waiting on the mk4 to finish then.. whats the latest recovery?

Philz is the best all around (a modified cwm). It will install/backup and restore every rom out there. TWRP can have issues with touchwiz 4.3 and AOSP 4.4 roms. If you choose to use philz dont use the newest version 06.12.xx it works but need your zips need to have the latest script and binary (which most dont).

[Q] Plz Help 4.3 down to 4.1.2. rooted tried a few

So I'm by no means super knowledgable with this stuff but I've rooted a few phones, played around with CM on my old evo but for the most part I enjoy rooted stock.
I have Galaxy S3 Sprint 4.3 updated OTA from a rooted (4.1.2). When I took the OTA I lost root, no big deal I used Odin and flashed the CF auto root, it said it removed knox and I had root back. Cool!
In short 4.3 sucked, wanted to downgrade back so things like TrevE mod would work again and it wouldn't be so buggy. I tried to use odin to flash "KIES_HOME_L710VPBMD4_L710SPRBMD4_1130792_REV03_user_low_ship.tar.md5" but it gave me the "Use Kies Recovery and error occured" message.
So I then used odin and flashed TWRP and my phone booted.
I'm back on 4.3 rooted.
I've tried picking through the forums and interwebz for answers but I get mixed messages and info on international versions and what not.
I'm tired of trying to figure it out and really could use some help downgrading back to 4.1.2
Thanks,
Brandon

The 4.3 OTA installed a locked bootloader, which will prevent you from ODIN'ing back to a previous version. you can flash any ROM you would like from recovery, you CANNOT downgrade the bootloader. As of right now, if you have knox, you are stuck with it.
You are extremely lucky that you didn't brick your phone by using odin to flash a non-4.3 tar. I wouldnt try again.
My advice is, remain rooted with a custom recovery, and find a ROM to your liking, and flash that.
I have also heard that we cannot flash custom kernels on the knox (MK3) bootloader as well, but I havent verified that.

Thank you for the response. Is CyanogenMod an option then? If I go to CM could I flash back a stock 4.3 rom in the future?
As an added bonus question does CM allow wifi tethering?
Again thank you for the response.

CM is certainly an option. In fact, its what i am running now. CM11 12-24. Runs great. You can always odin the stock mk3 tar and go back to stock unrooted, at any time.
in order to flash cm11 you MUST be on TWRP 2.6.3.1 or CWM 6.0.4.5 or newer or the assert check will fail.
not sure on the tethering, but im pretty sure it definitely works on cm10.2 and i think it does on 11 as well, but dont quote me on that.

Tethering is available on CM11 just like it was on 10.2; would strongly recommend latest Philz Touch Recovery over either TWRP or CWM though. Although it is based on CWM, it has proven to be pretty much the superior recovery option for flashing any Android build number, plus it is highly customizable.

this is how to downgrade

Do you realize that this thread hasn't been used in a couple of months? I would assume the author has no more need of advice based on the inactivity. Also, once Knox is installed, it is on the phone to stay. PERIOD. NO DOWNGRADING POSSIBLE VIA ODIN. Custom ROMs of any build are fine via custom recovery, but any attempt to change the bootloader will trigger Knox and brick the phone. Dangerous info to be posting here, especially since someone else who doesn't know better might try this.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S3 AT&T Possible Soft Brick?

So, i decide to root my s3 because i wanted to do some cool stuff. I got odin, got the tar file and tried flashing it. For some reason it didn't work :crying: On odin it gave me a fail. I was in download mode too. So, when i turn on my s3 it is in odin mode but it says "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." i did this in kies and when it was at like 99% it gives me an error. :crying:
so i tried flashing again in odin still fail, but i get on my s3 SV REV CHECK FAIL: Fused 2 > Binary 0. I have no clue what that means, So, i just want my phone to get working again i dont care about rooting anymore. JUST HELP ME FIX IT!!!!:crying:
BTW: I di root my Kindle Fire a while back so i thought I would have experience with this (i kind of do) but i guess I thought wrong.

Since your phone was running a stock 4.3 ROM, you can't use Odin to install a stock AT&T 4.3 ROM because it doesn't exist. There are leaked ROMs around that you could try flashing.
Alternatively, you could install a custom recovery and install a custom 4.4.2 ROM.

Flash stock rom - Keep Root & CWM

Hello, I am currently rooted and have CWM 6.0.4.3. installed. I'm on CM11 but want to go back to stock.. Is there an easy way to keep root and go back to stock. Want stock for a few functions that ROMS dont seem to be offering but can keep root and CWM ??
Thanks.
Which phone do you have? You could try flashing a pre-rooted stock ROM via Odin. Then use Odin to flash CWM.
Bt its better to firstly install ur stock rom and then again root it as it takes no longer than 5 mins

Ok perfect, thats what I was looking for. Phone btw is S3 - d2att - SGH i747) Sounds good to install the stock rom and re-root.. I'm sure its here but I have searched everywhere to find a tutorial on this and I cannot find a straight answer.
Would you mind giving me the steps or pointing me to a thread that explains how to and has the files in need to download ?

Do you know if there is a step by step on this somewhere ? I dont mind going back to complete stock.. I can just re-root and flash CWM after.
OR
Maybe you could just answer the bigger question : the reason I want to go back to stock is I need to use MHL/HDMI which CM11 doesnt support. I dont want to go back to stock, I would rather even go to another ROM that supports mhl/hdmi.. but if I have to go to stock, than so be it.?

Since you installed a custom recovery, that would have tripped the Knox counter which voids the warranty. It's not a problem if the phone is working properly.
Did you update to 4.3 or did it come with 4.3?
You may be better off installing a pre-rooted ROM.

It was quite some time ago but I believe I was on ICS 4.0.. and switch to CM from there. Im not worried about the counter for warranty, that's expired on my unit anyways. I just want to be able to use MHL/HDMI function.. so if fine with flashing pre-rooted.. or stock.. or a different ROM that support MHL/HDMI. Can you recommend the easiest route ?

I asked about 4.3 because the 4.3 bootloader cannot be downloaded. Flashing via mobile Odin will not touch the bootloader or modem.
You could try a pre-rooted rom and then flash a custom recovery via Odin.
I use Philz Touch from here: http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/d2att

Ok thanks, I will do that. 1 thing I'm not quite sure of is the bootloader situation ? In the first tutorial there is a note : Flashing a prior bootloader can hard/soft brick your device. How do I know ?
I see the steps as:
Extract tar file you downloaded.
Use Odin, put phone into download mode [with phone off, hold vol. down + home + power ], connect to computer and open Odin.
once in odin click the PDA field and select the tar file
Leave Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time checked.
click start and when done let phone reboot.
If you just want a stock, rooted phone with no custom recovery, no plans to flash custom roms, etc. then you can stop HERE.
For my situation, is it just that easy ?
Before flashing, verify the version of your bootloader.

What is the most recent stock ROM you had on your phone?
Hey. I got the i747m. As for what was the last stock ROM I had, can't say. I know when I bought the phone it was ICS and I had received and update to jellybean.. But them went to cm10. The tutorial I followed told me had me back everything up, which I did. Have it in a file somewhere on my comp, would that tell me ?

If you are flasjing back to stock you should flash back to the same baseband/bootloader that came stock on your phone.

If you are sure you have the Rogers i747m and you have never loaded a stock Rogers 4.3 ROM onto your phone, you could use desktop Odin to flash a pre-rooted 4.1.2 ROM from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426.
Flashing the pre-rooted 4.1.2 ROM will return the phone to completely stock, wipe out all installed apps and data, and you will have root. I do not recommend flashing the Rogers 4.3 pre-rooted ROM from the link.
Once you are able to boot into the phone and set things up, you can flash Philz Touch from Odin which will give you a custom recovery on a rooted stock 4.1.2 ROM.

According to the screenshots you uploaded, you are not on MDL firmware. In fact, you are on MDB firmware. MDB was released when the T-Mobile Galaxy S4 came out. Use Odin and flash the MDL firmware (use that same restore thread again, but do NOT download the link that says Stock Tar, instead download UVUAMDL Official TAR). Flashing this should restore the baseband version from MK2 to MDL.

I'm not sure. I actually used that tutorial to upgrade my baseband and it worked just fine. Another person also had this issue as well. I told them that it could have something to do with the custom binary counter. Apparently, the phone prevents you from flashing unsigned items if the counter is high. You can reset it with an app called TriangleAway.

Official 4.4.2 --> Reinstallation

Dear Experts, Need your help.
Look at the attached pictures.
I successfully flashed official 4.4.2 (M919UVUFNB4) through OTA
Since then I had google play store issues. "Could not communicate with google severs" for more than 2 days.
So I decided to get the stock 4.4.2 reinstalled. But it would need Stock 4.3 to allow OTA 4.4.2 to pop.
* So tried to go back to stock 4.3 using ODIN. This is where things got messed up.
* ODIN downgrade failed. Could not boot
* So I flashed OUDHS-Recovery-jfltetmo-1.0.3.3.tar using ODIN. Successfully flashed and booted.
* Installed CWM recovery 6.0.4.4
* Flashed "jfltetmo_M919UVUEMK2_Stock_Deodexed.zip" successfully and booted.
* Tried to go back to stock 4.3. Failed again.
Right now my phone is working without any issues with deodexed 4.3. Look at the attached pictures.
Let me know how can I get back to Stock 4.3
or
how can I update my phone to Stock 4.4.2
Appreciate your help!

Wrong section man but you can't update to stock 4.4.2 w/o the .tar (unreleased atm) and you can't go back to stock 4.3 because of Knox. All you can do is flash a 4.4.2 custom ROM and wait for the .tar for 4.4.2 to be released.

You can try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2679913. It's a completely stock flashable zip.
I will say that I haven't tested it yet (will do so later), and the Dev warns that things might break. So you have been warned. But if you're already on the 4.4 boot loader from the OTA update, its worth a shot. Just make a nandroid so that if you get any errors you can go back to what you have now.

Good to know, hopefully I won't have the same problem but who knows. It's annoying to me that I don't have a way to completely start fresh but that's what happens I guess when you jump the bandwagon so early lol

* Installed CWM recovery 6.0.4.4

There is a way to get a fresh install of the 4.4 NB4 OTA. We've been using the process for the I337 for a while now since AT&T stopped releasing the full tar files. I recently picked up a used M919 for the unlocked bootloader and have been able to follow the same procedure to get the fresh re-install of NB4.
I will put together the needed files and post a link but all thats needed is to place the OTA zip in your ext sd card and then flash the MK2 system, modem, recovery, and cache images using odin. The phone will not boot at this point but you then go into recovery and flash the OTA zip from there.
