Tab 3 8 split screen option - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, bit the bullet and rooted and cfw my tab 3 8 this morning, pretty painless and I am pretty darn impressed...
just one thing I didn't think about until I just came to use it, is this an option that I can add or have I lost it for good moving from Samsung firmware?
Many Thanks

Thinking I May Return My Tab 3 8"

I'm pretty disappointed with the Tab 3. Seems very slow/laggy. In addition, there is zero development on XDA for the tab 3. I know this just came out in the US, but it has been out for months worldwide. I've had this tablet for a couple weeks, so it's not just a first impression at this point.....
Currently, very unstable root and recovery. No custom roms. No way to install scripts/intd.
I've had a Galaxy 3 phone for about a year and love it. My phone runs circles around the Tab 3 in terms of responsiveness, processing......pretty much everything actually.
Am I getting a unique experience with my Tab or is everyone noticing the slow, dragging, instability of this tab? Size and screen are great, but do not outweigh the performance issues in my book.
Anyone else returned/exchanged their Tab 3? If so, what did you return it for? Thinking about going w/ the new Nexus 7, but there are a lot of options out there....please help!!!!!!
Weird. I had the nexus 7 2, the note 8, and now the tab 3 8. I don't think the tab is slow at all. Granted I don't play games, but overall I think its quite responsive and solid all around.
But I've seen a few complaints about how awful it is so it seems people have vastly different experiences.
Did it get slower over time? What are you doing when it lags? Did you install a ton of weird stuff?

Not at all. I don't play games on it or anything that requires heavy cpu usage. Just basic navigation is very slow. Is your tab rooted?

Nope not rooted.
Yeah I wish I could return mine at this point the asus memo 7 hd seems like a much better choice for 50 less than this thing.

I owned a Nexus-7 2013.. Took it back on the 15th day.. (Walmart) They're a lot of issues going on with the N7.. GPS being the main one.. And there are some bad ones out in the field.. So be warned. I was lucky and got a good one, but it just did not justify the price (32 Gb) $294.00 out the door.. for the size of the Tablet for me.. I also own an iPad Mini.. and the 7" Screen of the N7 just was not cutting it for me after being exposed to the 8" 4:3 Screen of the iPad Mini for the last year or so.. The N7 just seem too small.. lots of development for it.. but for me they were the same ROMs I was running on my recently sold Galaxy Note.. so they were Quite Boring and offered nothing new. Then I spotted this Tablet and the Beautiful Saturated Colors and it's 8" Screen won me over on 1st sight.. You got a bad Tablet.. You should just do a Factory Reset Wipe everything and go back to how the Tablet was when it came out of the box. if it's still laggy.. Return it and try another Tab 3 8.0 or something else. Mine was fast out of the box .. is now rooted and still smokes.. have you tried a different launcher? have you gone into developer options and adjusted your animations for faster response...?

I think this is about the Tab 3 "8.0" but you are correct... the Asus would be a better choice when comparing to the Tab 3 7.0.. IMO..
Sell what you got for $150.00... Then buy the Asus.
You are still cutting someone a deal if your unit is still in "Like New" Condition..
Speed
Mine is rooted and still is quite responsive.
Speed wise it was not as fast as the Note 8.0 but it is only dual core!
Ran Antutu on Note 8.0 and tab 3 before buying tab 3 8.0
note was 16,000 and tab 12,000
Where as my mtk6569 Note 5.5' clone came in at 16,138.
my old mtk6575 was around 9,000 from memory. But it has gone to the gods RIP.

This is potentially misleading. It's the same clock rate processor. For many tasks the Tab 8 is just as fast as the Note 8. Exactly the same speed.
Where a quad core will shine over a dual core is when you're trying to do lots of stuff at once. The main area I noticed a difference is something like loading a huge web page and trying to scroll while it's still loading. Lots of stuff happening at the same time there so more processors makes a clear difference.
But for basic, one at a time tasks where there's not much parallelism to be found, there isn't much noticeable performance difference.
I don't know if the '8 is that much different, but my tab 3 10.1 is among the speediest i' ve ever used(tablets)

S3 vs Note3

hey everyone... this is the first of a few posts i'm gonna make today. I haven't been on here in a little while and i got a bunch on my mind
anyway i have the opportunity to upgrade early on t-mobile, and i'm very seriously considering the note 3... my question is, how do you all feel about the s3 vs the note 3. would it be a HUGE update for me? obviously you can find plenty of s3 vs s4 comparisons on the net... s3 vs note 2 comparisons... and note 2 verse note 3 comparisons... but s3 vs note 3 is a totally different animal.
i'm looking for non-rooted STOCK performance. that's my #1 concern. if i wiped my s3 right now, sure it will run great for the first month or so, but it will slow down again once things have settled in, and i'm kind of ready for a more powerful device... but i'm wondering if i should just suck it up and wait until the inevitable s5 or some other phone that comes in 2014 (maybe even, although i doubt it, late 2013)... or just go ahead and get my upgrade going? i really dont want to root, as i've always found it's the same issues of "oh yea this is so amazingly fast!" and then 2 months later i've got problems and slowdown... rooting and installing roms is great for some people that like tinkering but just not for me.
again i'm not really looking to be able to play newer fancier games... although i'm sure i'll install and play plenty of games too... but i want performance... i don't ever want to be stuck in a situation where i just tapped the camera icon and i'm waiting 10 seconds for the camera to open... or even worse, get the "could not start the camera" notification and i have to reboot my phone. or when i click spotify and it takes 15 seconds to open. or i tap chrome and everything just freezes while it apparently tries to remember what website it last had open. you get the idea. i want stuff to load quick and fast and smooth and seamless.
what are your thoughts?
thanks!

When the time comes for me to get a new phone, I'm buying it from the play store. Tired of TouchWiz, tired of no carrier updates, tired of the phones being locked down, tired of everything except Android itself.

well to be honest the s3 has been updated way more than any other phone i've owned. and yea i'd love the next nexus, but what are the chances of a 32gb (or better yet 64gb) nexus? probably next to nothing. or one with sd support (also doubtful). so touchwiz it is cause 16gb is not gonna cut it this decade.
edit: oh and btw my mom has the nexus 4 with barely anything installed, the most recent update causes random reboots. awesome. yay for updates... haha. again i just want something that's gonna work really really good for a long time.

Thinking of changing from the Note 3 to the G3? Should I.....

I'm just going to get STRAIGHT to the point......should I JUMP from the Note 3 to the G3?
Is there anyone here that have had the T-Mobile Note 3 and upgraded to the G3. If so, how is the G3 compared to the Note 3?

i did it, via JUMP and so far im happy lol
i got tired of note 3 big screen and didnt even use the pen for 6months. this G3 is fantastic and LG operating system is close to android stock.
I bought my G3 a week ago (M-Mo of course). It's a nice phone but the on screen navigation kills it for me, there's an option to hide them on an individual app basis, but they are slow to reappear when swiped. I knew the onscreen navigation was going to be a problem, but I took the plunge anyway.
I rooted to get a volume mod, and while I can now hear, those I'm speaking with complain of distortion.
The USB port it a ***** to get inserted. I know it's just my phone 'cause I've seen zero complaints otherwise.
I't going back next week and I'll be waiting for the Note 4.
Just me .02 cents.

The USB port is a *****; however, it was pointed out somewhere else that if you try to insert the cable aiming slightly down, it goes right in. Sounds sexual but it works

Lol that's what she said!....... Cmon everyone thought it........
Anyways I upgraded from a Note 3. Which I love. And yes G3 is as close to stock android as you are going to get. But I've always loved the Super Amoled screen and I still have my Note 3. The colors just pop and the blacks are dark. Can't beat them Samsung screens. It is not much smaller than the Note 3. And I'm on stock and the G3 has this laggy stuttering at times when moving from screen to screen. The back is slippery as heck unless you get a grippy case. I was using the Note 3 naked the last few months and that faux leather backing felt great in my hands and secure. Hope this helps a little bit. Might sell the G3 when the Note 4 comes out though.

I'm afraid that if I wait until the Note 4 comes out, that KNOX will be such a bigger issue that it was with the note 3. That's the only reason that I'm considering the JUMP.....
The only the thing I think the note 3 has better then G3 is battery life other then that the G3 gives close to a stock android experience with extras to it
I just made a migration though importing call record and texts can be tricky.
It's smaller than Note 3 yet the screen is 5.5".
I really like "tap to wake" feature.
Sound is a bit louder than Note 3.
LTE reception is better than Note 3 too.
The lag and jitter are present no matter what you do from time to time. Does the note 3 lag? I would probably switch when the note 4 comes out. BTW I love the onscreen button , don't understand what's not to like.

What do you mean by on screen navigation?
I kinda thought that, but if I make this JUMP now, I will nit be able to upgrage again until February. So I'm thinking long and hard before I make my decision.
I jumped from the note 3 and haven't looked back:good: I absolutely LOVE this phone.
I jumped from the note 3 too. The battery life on the note 3 was very slightly better in terms of usage, but the standby on the lg g3 is way better. I hated the chrome guards on my note 3 it started scraping up the first couple days of having it. I also hated touchwiz and the camera on the note 3. The camera was okay on the note 3 but it seemed really inconsistent. I stopped using the spen about 5 months of getting the phone. Overall I have no regrets jumping the only thing I really miss on the note 3 is the usb 3.0 cord that charges the phone really fast.
Jumped from note 3 as well love the g3 so far haven't regreted it.
i wouldn't. 2 more months and you can see what note 4 will offer. you should wait

I came from a Note 3 as well. I also HATE the Navigation bar. It reduces the screen real estate (I also hate Samsung buttons). I disabled it and use pie which works amazing.
I've been a long time user and fan of amoled and there is a difference between the screen on the N3 and the G3. For now I prefer the screen on the G3, I got tired of the over saturation.
The battery is about as good as the N3 for my usage.
G3 feels a lot smaller. Has a better feel in the hand.
And I find the LG's skin to be better than Touchwiz on the Note 3. I dislike Touchwiz so much.
I don't think I'm gonna be installing CM on this phone if it ever comes out. It's fine the way it is. Of course I rooted it and have xposed installed.
Nexus ONE
Me personally, I haven't used the pen that much either but touchwiz is way too bloated. I agree with you @Actionx1 I totally hate the navigation bar but that is a great alternative. I have a gut feeling that the Note 4 would not be worth the upgrade. I dont know why, but I have a feeling.
I jumped from the Note 3 and got a lemon the first time. A few days later after returning it, I decided to give the G3 another chance. So far, really liking it. But, will probably get the Note 4 since I really like the Note series and hand me down the G3 to my dad.
Try out the phones. Forget specs and looks, try out the UI. That's my golden rule.

I switched from the Note 3. I like the G3 because it feels like IOS (which I love) combined with Touchwiz. I love the screen though I wish it was brighter and Super Amoled. The 3 gigs of ram is awesome. The battery life could be better. There are little things that are going to take some getting used to. So far I like this phone and I'm gonna hold on to it until the note 4 or iphone 6 comes out.

[Q] Looking for some input on Pro 12.2

Hi all,
I'm thinking about purchasing the Tab Pro 12.2, but just wondering what your thoughts are for my use.
I currently have a Nexus 7 (16gb) and an Acer C720 Chromebook. I also have a OnePlus One, so the Nexus 7 doesn't get much use over my phone so I'm looking to upgrade the tablet. Would the Tab Pro 12.2 be a suitable replacement for a Chromebook? Assuming I don't get an external keyboard, how easy is it to type on a tablet this large? Also, with the keyboard does a Chromebook still have any advantages to this? When web browsing, do websites default to mobile view or do they load normally which is what I would like with a screen this big.
I can get a new return for $320 which seems like a great deal. Also, any known issues I should know about. It seems like the Note series has more problems.
I'm not going to go thru and answer all those questions, but I will tell you. I have a chromebook. A note 4. A note 8.0, a galaxy tab 3 7.0 and multiple laptops. I thought for a while the same thing. Did I want a tablet that big? Or would it just lay on my dresser? And my tab 12.2 is now my go to. I love this thing. I'm stock rooted with just a few mods and a little theming. It runs smooth as butter. It's fast, lightweight. Great screen. I say for $320 grab it up. I paid $500 for mine new, but on sale. They retail for $649 for my 32gb
Thanks for answering. Do you use the 12.3 with a keyboard or do you find the on screen keyboard is sufficient enough to do most things. The tablet would basically be used for web surfing so keyboard input would be limited to web searching and forum posts.

[Q] Should I buy the Tab Pro 10.1 still?

You still can get the Tab Pro 10.1 from various (over 60 webshops in Germany have it in stock) dealers new in box.
It is sold for 290€
There is obviously the Tab S2 9.7 with a different aspect ratio, but it is more expensive at ~450€.
I would settle with the older Tab Pro 10.1 if it is snappy enough. So how is the performance with stock rom and how is it with CM12.1?
Is it worth getting it in new condition?
I want to use it at home obviously for surfing and social media and maybe to view some photos (picture frame-like).

For me the stock roms are really laggy. but CM 12.1 is great for me, great battery and no lag at all!
If you ask me, screw all those 4:3 tablets, especially 10/12 inch ones. I only see myself buying one if it's so cheap I can't refuse, but Nexus 9 is still somewhat expensive now, let alone Tab S2.

[WARNING: XDA Premium 4.0.13+ lacks Signature function - do not update]
The Tab Pro 10.1 is still decent if you can get it for a good price. And @manderspaul is right, CM 12 is pretty good. Better than the other options (stock and other ROMS). I can't think of another tablet I would purchase right now, except maybe the Nexus 9.
I bought it about 2 months ago... Good tab for the money. Use CM 12.1 or, if you would like more customisation, Resurrection Remix. Both are really good, no problems, and very smooth... You'll have tab for a couple of years as minimum...
from SM-T520
I got mine a couple of months ago.
Forget about tab B and S2. This one is the best for the price until LG G Pad 2 10.1 comes around.
The speaker on tab pro is pretty loud and much louder than S.
Got mine six months ago. First Samsung device in a long time as I usually stay away from Samsung's due to their horrible touchwiz UI. Big mistake again. After a few months I found touchwiz almost unusable. So bad. Lag and choppiness all over the place. I felt like throwing the thing out the window. I had not rooted a device for over 3 years until a month or so ago. I had to or else I would have destroyed the thing. It is so much better now. CM11 and CM 12 are both awesome ROMS and work great. I used both. The tablet hardware is awesome. Display, SOC and all around. Its just the terrible utter nonsense touchwiz UI that ruins it.
Now I'm back to stock ROM after some overheating issues I was getting on CM 12. I've stripped down almost all of the Samsung system apps and cleaned the ROM down. So much faster and better to use. All S voice, S planner, flipboard, S so on and so on I've removed. Much much better now.
I purchased my Pro 10.1 a few months ago, I really like it. Running CM 12 now, but I've considered going back to a stripped down version of touchwiz. Really nice tab for the price at this time.
