hey everyone... this is the first of a few posts i'm gonna make today. I haven't been on here in a little while and i got a bunch on my mind
anyway i have the opportunity to upgrade early on t-mobile, and i'm very seriously considering the note 3... my question is, how do you all feel about the s3 vs the note 3. would it be a HUGE update for me? obviously you can find plenty of s3 vs s4 comparisons on the net... s3 vs note 2 comparisons... and note 2 verse note 3 comparisons... but s3 vs note 3 is a totally different animal.
i'm looking for non-rooted STOCK performance. that's my #1 concern. if i wiped my s3 right now, sure it will run great for the first month or so, but it will slow down again once things have settled in, and i'm kind of ready for a more powerful device... but i'm wondering if i should just suck it up and wait until the inevitable s5 or some other phone that comes in 2014 (maybe even, although i doubt it, late 2013)... or just go ahead and get my upgrade going? i really dont want to root, as i've always found it's the same issues of "oh yea this is so amazingly fast!" and then 2 months later i've got problems and slowdown... rooting and installing roms is great for some people that like tinkering but just not for me.
again i'm not really looking to be able to play newer fancier games... although i'm sure i'll install and play plenty of games too... but i want performance... i don't ever want to be stuck in a situation where i just tapped the camera icon and i'm waiting 10 seconds for the camera to open... or even worse, get the "could not start the camera" notification and i have to reboot my phone. or when i click spotify and it takes 15 seconds to open. or i tap chrome and everything just freezes while it apparently tries to remember what website it last had open. you get the idea. i want stuff to load quick and fast and smooth and seamless.
what are your thoughts?
thanks!

When the time comes for me to get a new phone, I'm buying it from the play store. Tired of TouchWiz, tired of no carrier updates, tired of the phones being locked down, tired of everything except Android itself.

well to be honest the s3 has been updated way more than any other phone i've owned. and yea i'd love the next nexus, but what are the chances of a 32gb (or better yet 64gb) nexus? probably next to nothing. or one with sd support (also doubtful). so touchwiz it is cause 16gb is not gonna cut it this decade.
edit: oh and btw my mom has the nexus 4 with barely anything installed, the most recent update causes random reboots. awesome. yay for updates... haha. again i just want something that's gonna work really really good for a long time.

hi i got a nexus like 2 weeks ago and is it worth exchanging it to a note or s3? im a bit confused is nexus like out of the league compared to note and s3? pls help me decide
im currently running paranoid android 2.16 and having fun with it but in my case i want the best phone there is on the galaxy side
If you want to be "up to date", get the s3. The GN has been out for almost a year so I understand your confusion.
If you want the best Android experience with tons of exclusive features, stay with the GN.. It's like the ultimate Android device.
I used to be under the impression that our phone was outdated and I looked to upgrade but nothing feels better than someone walking up to me saying, "wow, what phone is that?"
Honestly, if you already have the GN, stick with it. No need to upgrade an already awesome device.
Thank you for helping me figure out which is the best phone i think ill stick with the Gnex since your right about people asking what phone are we using and i did a little research on you comment " It's like the ultimate Android device." i just found out that Gnex is the only device that is using the original jellybean really thank you for clearing up my mind

I recently got a Gnex as well. I didn't own an S3, but have played with a couple for extended periods. I didn't have the GNex at the time, but now that I got it, I think the vanilla android is amazing, and I wouldn't change for anything atm.
stay where you are. Ive had the s3 & ditched it for the nexus. next time to change is when the new gnex is announced.
trust me
If you get a S3 just because it is the latest thing then it won't be the latest for long - the S4 will be out early next year. Actually the "latest thing" is actually the Note 2. I passed on my awesome Note to my with 5 weeks ago to get the even more awsomener GNex. The thing about a Nexus is it can be a long term commitment as it will receive speedy updates and wont be forgotten whilst the hardware is still capable – look at the Nexus S getting JB. I don’t think I will bother with a new Android phone until the 2013 Nexus although I do fancy picking up a cheap WP8 device in spring when they slash the prices of all the unsold stock. For me to keep the same phone for more than 3-4 months is unheard of, I have had 9 in 24 months, so I must really love the Gnex!
actually this answers a lot the main reason i want a latest phone cause of support, the last android i got was the moto cliq and after 4 months support for it went no where so i was kinda disappointed and moved to the iphone and now i got the Gnex well im gonna stick with Gnex reading a good feed back from you guys :victory:

I'd stay with the GNex too, if you are interested in custom ROMs then the S3 wouldn't be good for you because of bad support from Samsung for their Exynos chipset. Some CyanogenMod developers have already ditched devices with Exynos due to the reason I wrote.

im really impressed i compared the Gnex against s3 and note the Gnex runs smoother it could be cause of the project butter but wow it beats the quadcore of s3 to dust :highfive:
I was thinking about waiting and getting the Note 3 when its cheap and value drops. Sadly android phones don't hold value well but in this case its to my benefit. However, Im really disappointed in Samsung with the speed of their updates. My note 2 is still on 4.1.2 for the longest time and it gets annoying. You could flash AOSP ROMS but you lose the Samsung Features. Now 4.4 is out and even the Note 3 is on 4.3 and will take a while before it sees 4.4. The note 2 may never even see 4.4 or it will take a very long time. Starting to think of other manufacturers in the future if this continues. But I love the S-Pen !!!
HTC on the other hand seems to be stepping up their game.

In my opinion Samsung needs to step up their game. What do you guys think about the speed of updates from Samsung ?
Comments on Android phones holding value also welcome.

HTC just dropped theirs while we have to wait until December 3. Not bad but I blame the cell carriers. Besides we already have a thread for this topic.
Yes Samsung does not update their phones fast but at least does not intentionally give you an update to to make your phone slower like apple does withe their updates.
Plus what other phone manufacturer does update their phone often enough.
HTC is nice, like the interface way better that touchwiz, but you cant switch battery or add micro sd card. My first android phone was the first HTC Evo. Has Battery swap and micro SD Card, then I got the HTC one S actually like it more then the GS3 but running out of memory and battery on the new HTC was to much for me to deal with on a daily basis. Then got the GS3 good phone, now on Note 2 and loving the Jedi X-20.
You are right what you say but really what are other manufacture options?
My next phone will be a phablet again but from who I don't know yet.
I think im going for the next phablet that has great camera, that will sway my decision big time. LG is starting to get my attention.
Have not really seen any great reviews about the Note 3 camera, maybe it not that good. So lets see what Note 4 has to offer in another 6+ months.
about Android 4.4 seems Samsung will never update a phone with latest android untill it releases a new phone with it first. So we have to see what phone from samsung get kitkat then we'll start seeing updates to older models.
just my 2 cents.

Yeah your right hopefully some manufacturers come out with a good phablet that has some good pen features sometimes soon. Would take a look at other phablets with no pen if they were good enough.
I walked in to a t-mobile store today and I was not impressed with any of the smartphones! I guess my choices will soon be the S5, the new htc one or maybe even the xperia z2.
My question to you guys is, are you really considering a jump to another phone in the next month? Why? Just because its the new thing? or is there something else?
When I compare my note 3 to anything out there, I laugh and say "these tiny screens!"

I initially wanted to dump my Note 2 and get the Experia Z2. 1 I love Sony and 2 , Sammy antennae sucks buttocks. The Note 3 was the only phone out at the time that was worth upgrading too. If they make an Xperia Z2s like the Z1s upgrade, i'll jump to that. But the S5 is def not worth switching from the Note 3
Is T-Mobile getting the LG G2 Pro? My jump upgrade is availabe in April and I may go for that. I know it won't be the S5. I feel like this Note 3 will be my last Samsung phone. But I probably jump for the Note 4. I'm looking at the new Nexus, G2 Pro, HTC One, or the big Sony phone. Can't be a small screen phone that's for sure.

I think instead of upgrading to a new phone from the Note 3, I might go with one of those fancy new Android Wear smart watches that will be out soon. I think the next 'great phone' won't be that much better than the Note 3 anyway.
I'm so happy with the Note 3. It's a perfect size overall, and the things it can do amaze me. I'm still finding new things in the settings. It does everything I need a phone to do especially as a phone as the calls for me are like land lines, so I really don't see the need/want to change at all. The only thing that will make me change (maybe) is if it breaks somehow, and then something needs to really get my attention, or I'll just get another one of the same. I've invested a lot of money into accessories for it too, so that's another factor for me. I have like six cases for the regular battery, and just got a ZeroLemon 10,000 extended battery/case/holder. I also picked up a couple different color/style back covers just for fun. I really don't see me leaving this phone for years to come.
ATM I would not replace my Note 3 with any other phone. G2 Pro is a close match, but doesn't have s-pen and frankly, since it's been released 5 months after Note3, I was expecting it to have faster cpu, gpu etc, like S5, but it doesn't, it barely matches the Note 3 and has less RAM, probably more expensive at launch also. I'm not sure if it was on this forum someone coming up for jump asked if he can get another Note3, it kind of sum it up how I feel, actually I don't think there will be anything I would want until Note 4 gets here.
I became eligible in January and still have my Note 3. There isn't a phone out there that makes me want to Jump just yet.
Luckily, my wife is eligible with Jump starting on Saturday so she is planning on going to the Note 3 from the Note 2.
Hi fellow G3ers,
I have had the device for just over a week and I must say I am very unhappy with it.
Not sure if I just have rotten luck with devices but I've had 2 Nexus 5, both of which had problems either rooted or not and no matter what custom ROM I had installed and now the G3.
I am experiencing severe battery drain, a major lag on many applications and just generally not happy with it.
Here is a quick video of my 5 biggest disappointments of the device:

well, you either love it or hate it!
for me is the best device i had so far, comin from galaxy S4, take some time pal, remove bloatware, get a root, there are plenty solutions for lag around here... new firmware 10g does draining more battery( UK version) but give it a week and probably a new update will come out, if dont wanna wait just get another KDZ like the one from Germany apparently is far better than UK one, and try it, if that doesnt help then go back to nexus

Hey,
Actually getting an S5 because of the overall package, like Amoled, dev support and various other things like IP certification.
I might try and play around with other KDZ's but really disappointing overall to have had such a bad experience with supposedly such an amazing phone.
Never played with s5... But i wanted a bigger screen in smaller package i would say.. And i really started to hate samsung for this Knox.. wait till the the phone gets unlocked and you'll see what devs will cook for this device!
I'm very happy with mine. The battery life is the best when idle. I also avarage around 6 SOT so Thats pretty freaking good to me.
Performance side, zero lag. None. I have the 3gb version which is maybe why. I would never buy a 2gb of ram phone anymore simply because something tells me its going to be the minimum from now on and 3gb recommended for future versions of android.
Design its the best and most efficient of all phones. Awesome camera. Great natural looking screen and plenty bright. Brighter than the s4. Its just a good all around package. S5 would best it if it wasn't for the design and over saturated screen though.

I've noticed over the last few months that Note 2 support has been waning. Every Marshmallow rom that I try on my phone, something doesn't work, GPS, Wifi, NFC, Camera.. etc. Lollipop is ok but has a few bugs in it and the only rom I can keep on my phone without it going south is SLimKat 4.4 (2014). Was just wondering what people's thoughts are on our trusted device and just mainly looking for condolence from the Note 2 family..
I'm just getting started. I've done a lot on this phone in the little time I've had it. There's so much to do on it even if support was to die that wouldn't kill the phone.

Nice. The note 2 is a very solid phone.. I've had mine since it came out (i605) and running a 317 att ROM.. Very versatile phone. I'm still using the same battery it came with. Thank you for responding

There finally an official version of CM13 for the Note 2 t0lte/t0lteatt/t0ltecan http://get.cm/?device=t0lte latest is "cm-13.0-20160508-NIGHTLY-t0lte.zip"
Don't give up on our Note 2!
Some general thoughts after using it, leaving it, and returning to it more than once:
If you already have a Note 2 or can get one free/cheap, there's no obvious reason Note 3/4/5 will be worth hundreds more. Newer Notes have a better camera and screen, and I'd probably enjoy using the S-Pen on physical buttons like those can, but are those $400/$500 reasons?
No matter what the spec-chasers tell you, Note 2 has plenty of speed for today and at least the near future. Look up YouTube speed comparison videos. There's maybe a one- or two-second delay, tops, compared to newer Notes. I can live with that. The difference ain't worth $600 or a new two-year contract.
As for Android OS, just stick with themed KitKat for the Note 2. It's tested, proven, and operates just like newer OS's to the untrained eye, including tons of their features. If you simply must have Doze or another newer-only feature, then yeah, maybe it's time to get a new phone, but again, those features aren't worth letting go of a great phone like our Note 2.
Final word: You mentioned waning updates in Note 2 forums. Have you tried the N7100/N7105 forum lately? It's still a party over there. In the past, we couldn't use those ROMs on North American (LTE) variants of the Note 2, but with the N7100ToNote2LTE Patch , we can now use all the ROMs in that section, if you didn't already know.
Overall, if you like the Note 2, keep liking it! There's no reason to let it go and every reason to keep enjoying it for the foreseeable future.

I still use Note 2 with 4.3 as a secondary with Note 5 as a main phone. But based on the speed Samsung comes with the new models it's already Antique
With Note 7 fiasco, even Note 5 became a prevoius generation so to speak.
I just installed this...

Hell no it's not dying
I just got a new note 2 for 80 bucks off eBay.
My note one just died and I loved so much was on nougat.
Now I have a note 2 with marshmallow.. Nougat seems to be fully functional but in still going to give that one a bit to develop before flashing it.
But to answer your question
Hell no it's not dead :good:
