Is anyone elss having this issue? When I access the camera via the lock screen widget, it asks me which camera to use. I always select the stock camera and select to always use it. It will work for a while, but then it starts asking again which camera to use. I am running WickedV5 w/Saber Kernel.

Hey everyone I was just wondering if anyone else had any problems not being able to record video with their evos...taking photos work just fine but when switching to video mode the pressing of the record button does absolutely nothing and it freezes there inside the camera app. Once you can get back to the home screen seems like it is still running in the background and everything feels sluggish and heats up...only way back to normal is a reboot... I am using the stock rooted froyo Rom..any help would be great. Thanks
Stock kernel as well? Do you recall installing anything funky? Has it always been like that or start recently?

Yes I'm using the stock kernel as well....if I recall correctly it was working in the beginning after I flashed it. But since I don't use my video camera much I'm just noticing it now not working...I don't think I have anything funky installed

Have you searched through the thread for the particular rom your using to see if anyone else running it is having similar problems. I would start there, hopefully your not the only one with issue. You can always do a complete wipe and try flashing the rom again, if that doesn't fix it, then it's not looking to good for you.

First I would try going into Home Button -> Menu Button -> Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> All tab -> Camera -> Clear Data
Hi guys
My front camera stopped working...i get Camera not connected message when trying to turn on the camera.
I tried everything like clearing data and restarting, resetting to factory settings and software repair in pc companion. All of the above methods failed.
Can someone help me out....thanks
Mine stopped working as well. No idea what causes it though. It went back to normal at one point but then it failed again. I would assume it's something to do with the hardware of the camera, because nothing I do to the software changes it. And trust me, I've tried a lot as well.
...i had the same problem. I've sent it back and got another one

Camera or front speaker not working
I replaced the front camera and speaker ribbon cable and i still have the problem
My front camera or front speaker stopped working last week for an unknown reason.
Same issue for mine as well. Rebooting after attempting to use it seemed to work for a while, but it returned to the error. I agree with it being a hardware issue.
If you're using a custom rom and using the LED torch on the quickpanel, go untick that LED torch on quickpanel settings.
If you're using stock rom, sorry no idea.

yea or if it's already off just flick it on and off and the camera will work
you have probably toggled something off. try to look for your default settings and apply them. that should work. if any more problems arise just ask me. XPERIA GAMER
Its probably a bad connector on the motherboard

I have the same issue, both front camera and front speaker.
I just replaced the flexcable and it solved the problem.

Make sure if you are using a CM9 or CM10 rom that you are using the legacy camera application, because the default google camera app sometimes is not compatible. It can also be related to the kernel being used.
Cannot connect to "front" camera

:victory: peace from Indonesia
clear data of the camera app,
or in custom rom u need to off Status Bar Widgets or off LED/Flash toggle,
tried everything but still no succes, when i switch to fron camera black screen only came up, i'm able to press button for taking photo and when i press it, camera app freezes and i must get out of it with home button
still the problem here
I am running CM10 stable with the KT747 kernel. I installed the 4.2 camera from a .zip in CWM and everything works fine except for taking a photo without doing touch-to-focus. If you take a photo without selecting a focal point or letting the focal point lock expire (it unfocuses from that point after a few seconds), the UI will lock up. After force-closing the app, it gives the "Can't connect to camera" error. I've heard that this is only happens on AOSP ROMs. Is this true or is there a fix? Thanks in advance!
Search. Answer is out there.

Just noticed that the screen mode changes back to standard when using camera.
Is this normal? and is there any way to fix it?
Anyone?
Ur gonna hafto give more detail

What more detail is there to give??? What he said is pretty straight forward. There are four display/screen modes (including dynamic and standard which are the two that I prefer) and he is saying that whenever he uses his camera it switches the screen mode from ex- dynamic back to standard.

I'd like to know this as well, its really annoying how it changes back to default every time you exit, even when you jump to the gallery and back.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium
Im not sure if ive got this straight. So you normally keep it on something other than default then when it goes to the camera it switches to default then when you exit the camera it stays on default? is that right?
On mine it seems to change to default when i enter the camera (probobly so that pictures look the same on it and any other device you view them on) then switches to whatever i have it set to when i exit.
OK I dunno why but I can't upload pictures in Tapatalk anymore without getting a force close. So no screenshot. Anyways last couple weeks my camera has been broken at least when using Google camera. Have tried disabling security and trusted face, uninstalled updates and reinstalled Google camera, enabling all permissions I can, wiping cache, and today a factory reset yet the same problem, hit the icon, black screen and ui lag for 10 seconds then a window pops up that says "error can't connect to camera". What really make's no sense is I tried downloading open camera and it work's fine. Seems like it takes about 10 seconds to fire up but it work's fine. I'm running pure stock, no root, MRA58V. Anything else I could try? Thanks!

Well go ahead and add reflash factory image to the list of things that didn't work... Sigh

Well I figured it out. My front camera is busted. Open camera works fine with the rear but the front camera says it can't connect. Who ever heard of a front camera going bad
