[Q] Install onscreen buttons, like Galaxy Nexus & Nexus 7 - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooti

I know there was a way to disable the buttons on the Galaxy Note 8.0 which was good, but it got pretty annoying when i had to pull out the stylus to go back a page. Is there a way to install the onscreen buttons that are similar to the nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus? I don't mind losing screen space, but it annoys the hell out of me when i type in landscape and my finger or hand would brush across those buttons and mess up what i'm doing. i would like nothing more than to install a second row of buttons while getting rid of the ones the built on, well maybe retain the main button. But hopefully there is a way to install it on the galaxy note 8.0, such as a simple flash or install of an apk.

Since no one knew the answer to my question I decided to check out YouTube and one of their videos similar to disabling the capacitive buttons allowed me to install on screen buttons. Now my note 8.0 feels like my nexus 7.

I have the AT&T I467 so I can't install custom roms from what I heard. Heck I'm still at 4.1.2, but at least I'm rooted and unlocked. should have went with the international version.

I bought my Galaxy Tab3 * inch 315 from Negri Electronics a week ago.... Phone AND LTE data with certian providers
http://negrielectronics.com/samsung-t315-galaxy-tab-3-8-0-16gb-lte-unlocked-white.html#.Uq-Zl-LnAfk
Ebay also has the 311 - phone and H+ data..
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?clk_rvr_id=561571360483&_nkw=galaxy+tab+311&_sop=3
Amazon probally has them too
I didn't mean that. I don't want to have tablet with ability to make phone calls like galaxy tab t311 but I was talking about android system version. If there is possible to install android made for phones into tablet?
oh... ok...
see this section here..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-3/development
check the threads there to see if there are any ROMS that will go onto your decive to give you the Phone UI.
I wOUNDN'T flash any roms for OTHER devices onto yours though as different 8inchers have different model numbers are are non-compatable.
Look for one cooked up just for your model..
good luck
ps.. I dont like the tablet UI either.. wasted space with the onscreen buttons...
I like my phone UI on the 315 and a physical home button...
which model do you have???

Sorry... Im just trying to get to the bottom of what firmware you have on your 310.
I have the 315 and the FW looks and acts just like my Mega and my friends s4 both 4.2.2....
with only 3 exceptions that ive noticed so far..
1) the stock Messaging app.. the multiple incoming screen is different from the phones..
2) the stock email app is slightly different
3) the Settings screen is tab like instead of the mobile type.. ie: my device, more..etc..
Can you tell us the 'annoying' features that you speak of that differ from your Samsung phones which are also at 4.2.2.
we hope to get to the bottom of your question soon.. I dont have your device here in front of me, that's why all the questions...

You can hack it but out of the box there is not more than one user on 4.2.2... not sure what the other guy is talking about. U can add it but it's annoying and I'm hoping they pull their head out in 4.4.2... if not I'll be very annoyed.
Just got my Sprint Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 2 days ago. Not rooted, out of the box. Android 4.2.2, AMH9 build. Went to Setting, there is an option for Users (under Application manager). When you select it you can add users with the Add user button on the top right corner. When you turn the device off and back on there will be user boxes on bottom middle of the lockscreen. Unless mine came hacked out of the box, I would say it is possible.

Ahhh I didn't read the model. Sorry about the bad info it happens. I have the 10.1 didn't realize samsung would be so stupid to add it to one version of the device and not another. That is just amazingly lame. I assumed they would have a standard across the line. I'm really regretting buying the 10.1... Yea I want a bigger better tablet with less features. Idiot samsung.

Hello,
I am new to Samsung and have a question.
Previously I have been an HTC user, and was able to restore a Developer version (HTC ONE) ROM to a At&t (HTC One) through TWRP.
So is it possible to flash a non At&t STOCK ROM to my At&t Note 4?
And also how would I go about rooting manually. CF-autoroot not available for the At&t version.
Thanks..
Nasvi, due to that att's bootloader is locked we are unable to flash any sort of custom recovery. As for root, I'm also hoping that someone finds root soon. It could take a while for a work around to getting a custom recovery, as it took the ATT G3 around 3 months for a workaround. If your looking for an alternative, I would get an international or the tmo note4. Hope this helps.

Will someone who has the ATT Note 4 run a carrier iq detector and post the results? Thank you so much!
Sorry to tell both of you AT&T = no root access. I did want to att but going to get the Tmo. Why because of this guy here>>>

Where is root and driving mode? Does this phone support a usb dac?
Carrier name in top left
Does anyone know how to remove the 'AT&T' that always displays in the top left corner of the screen on the top bar? It's annoying. I tried looking through settings but not sure if I found anything that could turn it off.
Need Root access to remove the carrier ID

No.
Is it just me or do you find yourself hitting the back button more often. Sometimes for me it doesn't seem to register after the first hit. I have to hit it a second time to get it to go back.

How do I set the internet browser to open links in new tabs and I stay on the current page? I know this was a setting on my S3, but cannot find it on my Note 4.
How to reach items on the keyboard?
On the keyboard each item has what on other keyboards might be thought of as "ALT" symbols. As an example "n" might have a ";" in the upper right corner. However if you use the capital the small "n" becomes a capital "N". As there is not an "ALT" key I cannot figure out how to reach those figures.
Thanks (you said nothing too stupid after all)

Does the S pen on the Note 4 work with the back button? I know it didn't on the Note 2 and that always bothered me.
Thanks

Nice, that's the only thing I didn't like about the Note 2, just seemed like such a waste not to have included it. Now if my pre-order would just come in. Thanks

There are two ways you can use those alt symbols.
You can hold the button ie "n" has "," with the symbol you want and it will bring up the alt symbol.
If you hold "n" down it will pop up "," and you can insert that into what you are typing.
The other is switch to the symbol keyboard bottom left of the keyboard there is a Sym button tap that and it will switch to the symbols keyboard. There are 2 pages 1/2 and 2/2.
To return to ABC tap ABC.
There is one simple option I have been digging for since I got mine several days ago and still cant find it. Where is the option to enable multiple widgets on the locKscreen? This option was under lockscreen settings on my s4, but isnt on the note 4, cant find it under any of the settings.

I don't see how its a problem. All the Samsung phones have the same arrangement of buttons. Verizon has already released it for the Galaxy S5.

How do you disable those keys? And do you need to reboot to make this active or could it be done on the fly? They do bother me when I'm holding the tablet (10.5) in portrait mode.
I'm also using GMD gesture on tablets, much easier than using those buttons.
Edit: never mind, just found there's a thread about it.
Why don't you just root it and ROM it blisspop

I don't think it's possible without rebooting
You have to edit 'generic.kl' file in /system folder, of course you need root

Anyone know how to swap the "recents" and the "back" button?

Thanks if anyone can help!

Don't think there's a way to natively change that. Your best bet is to root and check out Xposed Modules (if they even exist yet, I'm not sure).
Usually that's the only way to do stuff like that. Or custom ROMs with such settings built-in. I'm looking forward to being able to add another "option's" button on the nav bar. Sucks by default its usually up top.

Used to the Samsung way of doing it? But there's no way to do it stock.
swap recent and back button is inside gravity box. As is all the other must haves. To me personally that is.
I'm waiting patiently for exposed, it'll be a while.> http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed
Came from an s6. I do think the Samsung placement is better since I'm right-handed and use one hand a lot, so the back key on the right is a perfect placement. You do get used it though.
