This does not work. I tried it and was corrected. The Samsug Galaxy S doesn't have a recovery partition according to users in this thread. Therefore, this thread has been discontinnued and should be closed.
First of all, this is not my work. I only compiled it.
This is the usual ClockworkMod recovery, compiled from the CM7 sources with additions/modifications by j_r0dd. What I've done is only to compile it for the Samsung Galaxy S (i9000).
The credits go to Koush for the recovery itself and to j_r0dd for the modifications.
j_r0dd said:
This is based on the latest CM7 source which I modified for myself. I take no credit for the recovery whatsoever, but I will take all the blame for my mods . We all know this is Koush's hard work. Just some things were driving me crazy personally. First was the confirmation menu. I really got sick of scrolling through all those "No"s just to flash something, so i changed it for me personally and just thought I would share. I also created a proper wipe menu. I got sick of some wipes in the main menu and the rest in the "advanced" menu. I made this more Amon_RA like. See the attached screenshot for my changes. That change has led to a few others by me. flash with fastboot or flash_image. THESE ARE NOT IN ROM MANAGER. Also if you have an issue with this take it up with me NOT Koush.

Original Nexus S thread with changelog here.
Only available in standard orange, I actually can't be bothered to find out how to make different color variants.
Download:
GalaxyS_recovery-clockwork-3.2.0.0-j_r0dd_mod.zip (Without the /sdcard mounting bug)
GalaxyS_recovery-clockwork-4.0.0.0-j_r0dd_mod.zip (Buggy when mounting /sdcard)
Disclaimer
These recoveries are compiled using the latest commits from koush, j_r0dd and others. That means they haven't been thoroughly tested and might have minor/major issues. I take no responsibility for any damages this thing might cause, but most things should work as intended. If you want something guaranteed to work, I think you should stick with one of the older versions.
Source code available here.
OK, and what am I to do with it?
Does this support RFS ?
Or only EXT4 ?
The recovery image is not supported to flash it on I9000.....
this is great.... i don't think it's Odin flashable rightnow, so not trying anything for now but would like to see it in flashable form. I am right, right?
The problem is I don't know anything about flashing an SGS phone. I simply assumed one uses an img file for the recovery. I'll see tomorrow if there's a way to make it work.

Stupid question?
Why remove it if all you need to do is touch /sdcard/clockworkmod/.no_confirm with stock recovery? and it does the same thing?
No, with this one you don't have so many "no" choices in the menu. And other differences in the menus as well. Look in the Nexus S thread for more details.

If you touch /sdcard/clockworkmod/.no_confirm on stock CWM you get dont get the "no" choices" menu changes I understand, but i dont see the point in removing the confirmation if you can turn it on / off by default

No, that's a different thing. In this recovery, you'll still need to confirm, but you won't have to go through so many "no's" to reach the "yes". You'll have no and yes as the two only choices. Also, j_r0dd moved some wipe features into main menu -> wipe. He also removed the obsolete "Install update.zip", seeing as people will browse directories and name files other things than update.zip nowadays. Things like that. That's the reason for the mod.
Updated OP to version 4.0.0.0.
Added back the 3.2.0.0 version in the OP so you won't have the /sdcard mounting issue. Hopefully it can be resolved soon, so we can start using the 4.0.0.0 version. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Thanks for trying but a SGS does not have a recovery partition.
The recovery executable you have built needs to be embedded into the kernels zimage on SGS.
Its the one thing that stopped me building a psfmod recovery for SGS unlike every other device where recovery has its own kernel etc, the SGS recovery is in the main system kernel. Bad practice on Samsung for that.
People will have to wait.
FYI, CWM 4.0.0.1 is on githib now with sdcard bug fixed.

Isn't the CM Touch Recovery already available in ROM Manager? Not for free though,
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?ci8xkjbpywp9uxh
Needs work, screen resolution is too low, back button doesn't work (use power button) if there is source code I'll take a look. If you really want a touch recovery 4ext is superior at this stage.
Flash the above from recovery then reboot recovery.
Yea but if you can't donate. Your able to get it off there site but they don't give a way to install it easily. But if someone could make a zip everyone could install it

I just posted the zip. It's the mediafire link. Flash from recovery.

I can confirm its available via ROM Manager. Just flashed it last night - not bad, cant wait for the back button to work though

Yes, I felt kinda weird it asked me to donate just to get it via rom manager... I already have the premium rom manager, so it should have not required me to, nonetheless, it's fine... A little support for the dev... Lol,

Afaik, Koush is a full time developer (I think he mentioned it Google+). Meaning he makes his living off his apps. It's not necessary to use a touch recovery so he made it paid, but with the option to download for free off his website. I personally don't mind supporting someone that does good work. Although I did sign up for the Android Police giveaway.

I'd pay for it if it were more full featured and didn't require do much scrolling due to the fonts and selections being way too big for the screen. It's just ugly.

Well, maybe you can get him to make it themeable. I hope the don't sizes are large enough that I don't need my reading glasses to read the screen.

If you wanna do a manual flash, it's pretty easy. Download the .img file and move it to your /platform-tools folder (assuming ADB and fastboot is installed), load up the terminal and use the usual command "fastboot flash recovery <img filename>.img"
Personally, I prefer the 4EXT touch recovery. As many have mentioned: lower resolution, lack of proper back-button.
manual installation isn't required with the zip I posted in the second post. Just flash the zip from your current recovery to install cwm touch.
Clockwork Touch
Man cuz... Its the cats pajamas
It has the old non-off-mode charging bug from cwm3 I'll post up one later that charges while off.
yeah, I agree, it seems that 4EXT has left clockwork/ROM manager in the dust these days! (both in the touch and classic realms)
Koush was the pioneer, but his student has far eclipsed him of late

So true... It's really due to having too many irons in the fire. He has a ton of side projects and didn't realize he was making a living off Android full time now. 4EXT is so much better in terms of bugs and usability but I think people still stick with CW is because it has wider support of devices and an easy download ROM list. Nice to see another from my hometown

I agree. But as said, I think it's because Koush is supporting a ton of different phones. 4EXT has been able to solely concentrate on a few phones.
DEPRECIATED. PLEASE USE TWRP INSTEAD
CWM5 Based recovery for the Motorola Xoom.
Main features:
Tar backups (Application extraction in Titanium backup)
Dual storage support - uses both the internal storage and the external sdcard
Openrecovery scripting support - Supports flashing through the GooManager application
Softkey version available (based on the original touch recovery for the Galaxy Nexus)
Notes:
By default nandroid progress is hidden. To show the nandroid progress, place a file called .shownandroidprogress at /sdcard/clockworkmod
Nandroid backups from an earlier recovery will not work.
Installation
Flash the zip file through recovery.
OR
Flash the image with fastboot
Code:
fastboot flash recovery eos-recovery-r6.img
Downloads:
Normal version
eos-recovery-r6.img
eos-recovery-r6.zip
Softkey Version

Thanks for this amazing (first) softkey recovery for xoom
Just flashed! It is not fully touchable! Only softkey!
Uses soft keys and works great. May not be what you call touch. All I know is NO more volume buttons!!
Solarnz, thanks for this great work!
thanks works great!
team eos once again beats team kang ! lol
I hope you release the source, so team kang can get donations for making some minor changes and have a big release. lol
Works great here,softkeys
Thank you Solarnz!
One question though, can I use backups larger then 2.1 GiB with this recovery?
I couldn´t with rouges recovery.. some fault with the tar binary in recovery.
I will try it myself but Ihave to shrink my data partition first...
I have the problem on my galaxy nexus with latest touch CWM

EDIT:
-Just found bug with USB mounting from recovery, the eroor message is "E:Unable to open ums lunfile (No such file or directory). I have UMTS 3G MX01 version of xoom. Anyone else found this bug?
Thanks for the recovery with softkey .. having the Nexus I feel at home! and then with the physical buttons are a little annoying, since it has not xoom key performance .. is now much better .. Good going for the great work ..
Maybe i overlook but what is the different between Softkey version and Normal version? thx

The four bottoms on the bottom of the screen are as follows from left to right:
Back
Up
Down
Enter/Select
The options can't be physically touched. You have to use the soft keys to scroll through the options.
Still better than using the volume rocker and power button but not what I was expecting.

... What did you think "Softkeys" meant? There is a reason why I didn't say it was a touch recovery...
I for one appreciate this use of soft keys. I fat finger too often and I can't imagine having to touch each command line.
Bottom line, this is great and works for me! Thanks solarnz. My physical buttons and my fat fingers thank you!

I started with your stuff when I first got my Xoom, great work. I see no reason to go anywhere else.
Hi guys touch does not work on current recoveries for people like myself on 3.17 base 1.39 hboot as driver or similar where changed and no recovery has updated to adjust.
Bottom line my volume buttons get rapped enough without this does anyone know if there will be a recovery update to restore touch for new hboot/base
If there is one and i have missed it please let me know
Thanks guys

Aroma does work with volume and power button also ! I'm not saying its easy....but it does work
You have to use twrp 2.4.0.0 to get the touch back. But on the other hand in that version the usb mass storage broke. So you can't mount it as a usb drive in the recovery ! So that's a no go for me.
My HTC Wildfire's trackball has broke. WHICH IS HORRIBLE NEWS!!!! This means I cannot install custom ROM's which I loving doing (for some reason). I cannot use the Recovery because to select something, I need the trackball, which is stupid, and installing through ROM Manager doesn't work all the time. Is there any stable TOUCH recovery for Buzz out there? Please tell me, else, this Willy is useless. Any suggestions will be appreciated!
I am running:
Cyanogenmod 6.1.0 (6 because 7 is too buggy and 6 is smooth)
ROM Manager (Up to date, but installing ROMs doesn't work)
Clockworkmod 3.x (x because I can't remember exactly)
Thanks!

No luck, installed the official ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.2.0 and you can move about with the volume rocker and HOME to go up and MENU to go down. BACK and SEARCH just makes it go back to the top of the menu and the POWER switch just hides the menu and show the background. That was a fail! Anything else? Or is the phone done for?
EDIT: it might be the one I install, do you have a link to the one that you had/have?
