Thanks for this amazing (first) softkey recovery for xoom
Just flashed! It is not fully touchable! Only softkey!
Uses soft keys and works great. May not be what you call touch. All I know is NO more volume buttons!!
Solarnz, thanks for this great work!
thanks works great!
team eos once again beats team kang ! lol
I hope you release the source, so team kang can get donations for making some minor changes and have a big release. lol
Works great here,softkeys
Thank you Solarnz!
One question though, can I use backups larger then 2.1 GiB with this recovery?
I couldn´t with rouges recovery.. some fault with the tar binary in recovery.
I will try it myself but Ihave to shrink my data partition first...
I have the problem on my galaxy nexus with latest touch CWM

The coolest recovery ever seen. Great job done. The softKey version is really great, avoids use of those annoying hardware buttons. Really love it.
EDIT:
-Just found bug with USB mounting from recovery, the eroor message is "E:Unable to open ums lunfile (No such file or directory). I have UMTS 3G MX01 version of xoom. Anyone else found this bug?
Thanks for the recovery with softkey .. having the Nexus I feel at home! and then with the physical buttons are a little annoying, since it has not xoom key performance .. is now much better .. Good going for the great work ..
Maybe i overlook but what is the different between Softkey version and Normal version? thx

The four bottoms on the bottom of the screen are as follows from left to right:
Back
Up
Down
Enter/Select
The options can't be physically touched. You have to use the soft keys to scroll through the options.
Still better than using the volume rocker and power button but not what I was expecting.

It got frustrating with those little volume buttons, and coming here from touch on my Nexus S was an adjustment... but this is great
I was hoping someone would would do this for the Xoom. It is very similar to the amon ra style recovery I use on my OG EVO. Thanks for your great work.

... What did you think "Softkeys" meant? There is a reason why I didn't say it was a touch recovery...
I for one appreciate this use of soft keys. I fat finger too often and I can't imagine having to touch each command line.
Bottom line, this is great and works for me! Thanks solarnz. My physical buttons and my fat fingers thank you!

I started with your stuff when I first got my Xoom, great work. I see no reason to go anywhere else.

This is for those times when you want to change your recovery but don't have access to a desktop. You need to already have a custom recovery installed otherwise you can't flash the zip (duh!).
Here are some common recoveries in flashable form:
Stock_Optimus_V_Recovery.zip
aospCWMod-VM670-20110531_Recovery.zip
CWM_3.0.2.4_Recovery.zip
Thunderc-v-1.2.0-GNM_Recovery.zip
Xionia_CWMA_12518.4_VM_Recovery.zip
Xionia_CWMA_12518.4_Recovery.zip (Optimus S)
Xionia_CWMA_12518.6_Recovery.zip (Optimus S)
You don't need to do anything special for these. Flash them and your recovery will be changed.
If you want to flash a recovery not listed above using your current recovery, use the following directions:
Make sure your recovery image is not corrupt before using this.
Rename your recovery of choice to vrecovery.img
Place vrecovery.img in the root of your micro SD card
Place Flash_vrecovery.zip anywhere on the micro SD card
Reboot into your custom recovery and flash the zip
Enjoy!
This is fantastic! Thank you.
Wicked Love it! Thanks Dude
is there a way to flash a custom recovery from the stock recovery, my brother flashed the wrong clockwork on his optimus v and now we can't install roms and it currently doesn't have a rom on it. I use the AOSP ROM (dead rom). For some reason, all the IHO ROMS keep rebooting me after installing all my apps. I also use the Xionia recovery and the Xionia 010-anykernel kernel. With that kernel though, your home key and menu key will be switched, but well worth it.

that's a lot of formatting in your post ;p
on the quick side:
so, my kitkat rom thread and twrp (both in my signature) still have live links to Google drive.
but...
kitkat pretty much requires setting up a sacrificial sd card with that twrp, which you can't remove from the phone. higher speed is better for the card.
that twrp has a kernel which reverses system and userdata, so even if you put it in internal mode, you have to modify updater-scripts to swap all mentions of system and userdata for it to work. with anything I didn't build, like anything pre-kitkat.
I have harmonia (important to set up the phone for activation) but if it's like my Evo 3d, you'll have to manually set the date back to 2019 or whenever the security certificate expired to get the activation app too connect or it'll just error out.
I also have a zip of harmonia I "fixed" to work with that twrp.
somewhere I also have bobzhome GB. and I think a reversed zip of that too.
I might even have older custom recoveries.
if you search around Google you might find the bobzhome rom stashed away downloadable, I was still able to grab it within the last year.
after a while I'll dig and upload stuff to my gdrive.
it sucks that Android file host deleted all my OV files though. I had a lot there.

Needs work, screen resolution is too low, back button doesn't work (use power button) if there is source code I'll take a look. If you really want a touch recovery 4ext is superior at this stage.
Flash the above from recovery then reboot recovery.
Yea but if you can't donate. Your able to get it off there site but they don't give a way to install it easily. But if someone could make a zip everyone could install it

Afaik, Koush is a full time developer (I think he mentioned it Google+). Meaning he makes his living off his apps. It's not necessary to use a touch recovery so he made it paid, but with the option to download for free off his website. I personally don't mind supporting someone that does good work. Although I did sign up for the Android Police giveaway.

I'd pay for it if it were more full featured and didn't require do much scrolling due to the fonts and selections being way too big for the screen. It's just ugly.

If you wanna do a manual flash, it's pretty easy. Download the .img file and move it to your /platform-tools folder (assuming ADB and fastboot is installed), load up the terminal and use the usual command "fastboot flash recovery <img filename>.img"
Personally, I prefer the 4EXT touch recovery. As many have mentioned: lower resolution, lack of proper back-button.
manual installation isn't required with the zip I posted in the second post. Just flash the zip from your current recovery to install cwm touch.

yeah, I agree, it seems that 4EXT has left clockwork/ROM manager in the dust these days! (both in the touch and classic realms)

So true... It's really due to having too many irons in the fire. He has a ton of side projects and didn't realize he was making a living off Android full time now. 4EXT is so much better in terms of bugs and usability but I think people still stick with CW is because it has wider support of devices and an easy download ROM list. Nice to see another from my hometown

I agree. But as said, I think it's because Koush is supporting a ton of different phones. 4EXT has been able to solely concentrate on a few phones.
xt907 cwmr touch 6.0.3.6 flashable.zip with working touch screen input. Easy to double touch your way passed the confirmation screen & bork something. But that is what Koushik intended! It is FAST & but for a dim screen bug- fixed by a reboot recovery (sometimes) - is 100%. Thankfully the keys work also.
Tip: always scroll via the bottom half of the screen as the "deadly double touch" will only occur as you scroll above the yes confirmation.
Create img zip works and created "image.zip" in my internal sd clockworkmod folder. Not sure how this new feature is used, as of post time...

This Atrix (key only on the xt907) version is safer!
It does have a dim screen if booted from volume key.
Works "out of the box". Key Navigation only. Flash-able.
For the timid: the AtrixHD's first custom recovery was the Photon Q version right out of rom manager. I have been using the same Q ver for months.

Built one just as ej1911 said I could! Thanks ej1911.
Warning: I inadvertently wiped all data as I was testing the touch input.
You can use keys too. This touch input is fundamentally flawed! It is too easy double touch your way passed the no/yes conformation screen!
The basic interface for key use is not suitable for touch use!
The twrp interface in fundamentally safer!
Both these versions have a dim screen bug depending on how it is launched.

No only this device...I sold my N2 before I had a chance to try it but it seems to be very popular. I love the customability to change the layout and colors of all the menus...that is just scratching the surface.
I just read the op (1-3) again and have a few questions but am still confused and/or don't know enough to ask meaningful questions. I have my zips and should be able to switch back and forth so will start there. Looks like others in our group are also interested.

Well my zips work and I can switch back and forth. I won't be using customizing much and find the way the cursor always shoots back to the top item when selecting something me wonder what I selected, was that setting on or off? Found the soft buttons on the bottom the easiest way to navigate. I tried to use an OTG drive, it seems to mount but I was unable to do anything with it and it looks like when you leave the mount menu it unmounts, at least it was not available for browse from the install from zip menu. The UI is blindingly fast, like instantaneous and very nice on the eyes. I would have to get used to the whole thing though so first impression is overkill. A sweet and simple recovery it is not. I would like to hear some reviews from the rest of you

I just used PhilZ 6 to do two nandroids and install a new ROM. It all worked smoothly. So far, so good. Recommended.
My HTC Wildfire's trackball has broke. WHICH IS HORRIBLE NEWS!!!! This means I cannot install custom ROM's which I loving doing (for some reason). I cannot use the Recovery because to select something, I need the trackball, which is stupid, and installing through ROM Manager doesn't work all the time. Is there any stable TOUCH recovery for Buzz out there? Please tell me, else, this Willy is useless. Any suggestions will be appreciated!
I am running:
Cyanogenmod 6.1.0 (6 because 7 is too buggy and 6 is smooth)
ROM Manager (Up to date, but installing ROMs doesn't work)
Clockworkmod 3.x (x because I can't remember exactly)
Thanks!
- Ikram232
EDIT: I don't need a TOUCH recovery, I need at least a recovery that doesn't require a trackball. I don't care how old it is, as long as it install custom ROMs!

I should really edit my post because I really don't need a TOUCH recovery, I need a working recovery that at least doesn't require a trackball to install Custom ROM's! Okay, I'll give this one a shot tommorow, gonna go to bed now! Thanks!

Okay, I am confused, there is the Aroma Installer and there is the CWM Recovery, they're different things, how do I use the Aroma thing. I AM CONFUSED! What is going on, can you help me?
EDIT: and the recovery download isn't even working!

Clockwork mod version 5.x x x+ has a thing built in where you can scroll up and down using menu and home, using power to select things instead of power being the back button. If you I stall it and then hit the buttons a few times it should enable stating "back button enabled"

No luck, installed the official ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.2.0 and you can move about with the volume rocker and HOME to go up and MENU to go down. BACK and SEARCH just makes it go back to the top of the menu and the POWER switch just hides the menu and show the background. That was a fail! Anything else? Or is the phone done for?
EDIT: it might be the one I install, do you have a link to the one that you had/have?
