Dolby Digital Plus/Dolby Headphone for Nexus 7 - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Is there any way to get Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby Headphone on Nexus 7 with software ?
I've had my Nexus 7 LTE for a few months now and can't run movies in virtual surround with headphones at all even with Viper4Android Mod that doesn't work at all with movies for me.
I've searched for any player that support these technologies for Nexus 7 and didn't find any. The only app that has all the features that I want is CineXPlayer HD but it is only available for iOS.
I was about to sell my Nexus 7 and get iPad Mini with Retina Display but read about its color accuracy problems and I can't handle iPad Air size so I decided to stick with my Nexus 7 hoping to find a solution.
Kindle Fire HDX and MS Surface 2 both have DD Plus, so why not the Nexus 7 ?

Nothing ?!

Viper4android works fine for movies. You need selinux set to permissive though.

Anyone else here interested in Samsung Series 7 Win8 tablets-ATIV Smart PC Pro 700T?

Curious if anyone else here interested in the Note 2 is also interested in Samsung Series 7 Win8 tablets like the ATIV Smart PC Pro 700T to become available on Oct 26th?

I was interested in the Asus Transformer Infinity but this additionally has the S-Pen functionality in more powerful hardware..
It would also be nice to be able to have Android on it..would there be any way like the Asus Transformer can run Win8?

Yes I am really interested in getting this tablet, but I am mainly curious if anyone has heard that if it is going to have any other docks for it like the one for the Samsung Series 7 Slate desktop dock.
Wanted to order Note 10,1 because S-pen and it is very nice and high end product - but i am more windows user, therefore not yet ordered and will wait some time, and i am using consumer preview of win8 on my touch netbook and it is worth to wait and try (as it is preview only, it is really big fun on USE as tablet, supersmooth even on ATOM, IE10 is very quick, high-res pictures rendering is blazing fast....i believe win8 will just show to others how device should work...
also happy user of note 1 phone, cancelled note 2 order and will wait if there will come WP8 similar based device from samsung - as android is nice, but sometimes flashing the device and customizing takes so much time that i just want to USE my devices for better productivity which android lacks proper support from top productivity software companies. Hopefully on W8 launch there will be also store uploaded with usefull apps as my current W8 consumer preview appstore is not as full as playstore (on the other way you can use 50apps from playstore for serious use).
Note 2 is super nice device, even Jelly Bean looks to be promising, but i just want to have full replacement of PC on my next tablet, so MICROSOFT is the way - no other app from play do not match the MS office productivity etc...(speaking as bussines user, for other casual users is android good product)
Anyway, my money will wait a bit and after 26Oct i will consider where to spend them.

Why Eeeeeew? Keyboard dock turns it into a laptop & detachable screen turns it into a tablet with S-pen functionality..

Poor video streaming performance

I just tried to have a video streaming from a TV live broadcast of local MyTV app. The performance was very bad - blocky and lagging. I also tried on Nexus 7, iPhone 4 and iPad 2. Nexus 7 was similar to Note 2 but iPhone 4 and iPad 2 were extremely well - smooth and no lagging at all. Although both Note 2 and Nexus & claim to have powerful GPU, the actual performance are poor than less powerful GPU of iDevices. Should I do something to tune it optimum performance?

I had the exact thing happen to me last night. Opened tv app right next to my buddy on his ipad2. Using the same wifi, same app, same time, his video quality was much much better. It was almost embarrassing. I've been searching for a while trying to figure out the problem. Even watching a prerecorded video from the same website, the ipad2 was so much better. Not sure what's going on.
I have done the same experiment...same results. Very sad...

I still haven't found any research anywhere regarding this situation. Any luck at all? I'm wondering if there's a buffer issue somewhere.

Miracast?

Does the N5 use the same Miracast technology as the N4 to do wireless display mirroring? Netgear PV3000 compatible?

I'm pretty sure it does but I can't offer you any evidence
Yes it does. Under settings, display and then wireless display. Don't know about compatibility

PTV3000 2.4.26 Works with N5 / N7 2013 Edition
I have a nexus 5/nexus 7 2013 edition and a PTV3000 running firmware version 2.4.26. The PTV3000 actually works very well since the latest firmware update, though prior to this update it was terrible for me. (Additional configuration note: I have disabled legacy intel widi support on the PTV3000 as I have no need for legacy intel widi support).

anyone know how well miracast actually works? ive seen a couple of youtube videos demonstrating it, but not with a nexus 5, and there was pretty noticeable lag. I understand that wireless mirroring isn't going to be perfect, but coming from an iPhone with airplay mirroring, lag was so small that I could play most games without much issue. was able to play platforming games (such as Mario-emulators of course) pretty easily, but if the lag is worse on miracast, then it might not be a viable solution (for me at least)
Meh-icast
Honestly, It works pretty well for streaming media - though I still definitely prefer using my chromecast. I bought the Miracast adapter prior to chromecast being released, and if it was the other way around I would never have bought the PTV3000.
Latency: Yes, there is a good bit of latency and this is is enough to annoy you while playing a game.
Media Playback: Occasional lag or video/sound glitch, but overall it is pretty good now. Earlier firmware versions on the PTV3000 were terrible.
Session Disconnects: Certain applications (read DMR heavy) will terminate your Miracast session when they are launched (Google play movies/music, netflix, hulu, etc...). I have not tested this on the latest firmware yet.
Devices used:
I have used a Nexus 7 2013 edition and Nexus 5 connecting to the netgear PTV3000.
My LG TV has miracast built in and it works well. There is a few second delay from what's showing on your phone to the TV, but it's smooth. I'd still rather use my chromecast for Netflix and hulu, but for showing pics or video you took, it's great.

Which model do you have? I just got the la6200 and it's unusable. It shows one frame every 10-15 seconds. Tested on my nexus 10 as well with the same results.

[Q] Nexus 7 2013 wireless tv out

HI guys. Can someone please recommend a decent method of being able to wirelessly display my nexus 7 FHD on my 42" LCD TV. It isnt a smart tv so I need a device to do this but I want to be able to play games on my tv using the Nexus as well. I have seen a few dongles for about £30 on amazon but they all have dodgy reviews. The cheaper the better but I obvs want something that will work flawlessly. Please can you guys give me some advice and your recommendations?
Many thanks

The SlimPort is a great device. I do not personally own it but I know people who own it and they say it works flawlessly. Since I cannot post links yet I suggest you go to Amazon and type SlimPort.
In android 4.4 in the display section of the settings there is an option to cast screen and since it says "cast" it leads people to believe the chromecast will be updated at some point to mirror screens, however it doesn't have that capability at this time but it will be a great option when/if it happens!

I was surprised when the Nexus 7 cast screen feature in the display settings worked with my Samsung All share Cast dongle, but it isn't that good by any means. But then, not even my Samsung S3 does screen casting to the dongle very efficiently either. So, slimport tethering is the way to go using a Bluetooth keyboard with touchpad to remotely control the Nexus.

The Netgear PTV3000 has been pretty flawless for Miracast so far. Just make sure you don't have any other devices operating on the 5 GHz band when you're using it. HTH.

The gaming performance on the n7 is pretty good (gta sa on max settings runs smooth) I got a nexus 7 a week ago just cause it was so cheap (the price drop was caused by the release of the rather expensive nexus 9 and the fact that Google is no longer producing the nexus 7) so If you want to get one, get it now cause soon they won't be available anymore!
If your interestes are really for heavy gaming , i'd suggest either to wait for the release of the nexus 9 or to get a shield tablet . This doesn't mean that the nexus 7 is bad , no but the nexus 9 and the shield are both recent and they got more room for improvement .
Personally , im a heavy games player and my nexus 7 doesn't Weaver at all , i can play dead trigger 2 in high graphics with some rare sutterings sometimes , asphalt 8 is buttery smooth , even the most demanding game like modern combat 5 runs smoothly so it is up to you to decide weither to wait for the n9 or to get the n7 ( especially that it's price has drastically dropped )
