[Q] Hard Bricked T989- Can T999 be done for this phone? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Hi,
I have a T989 that's been hard bricked for some time now. I wasn't interested in sending it out for JTAG because it was just a backup phone and it served its purpose. When it was working, it was a great phone.
Recently I came across a thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2439367) that shows how to unbrick a T999 (T-Mobile Galaxy S3) that shows QHSUSB_DLOAD without JTAG. (QHSUSB_DLOAD shows up in device manager when I plug my phone via usb.)
My question is, could this solution posibly work for the T989?
Thanks in advance.

You'll never know if you don't try... It's already hard bricked. What's the worst that could happen?

it would be great if this worked with our t989, i think i saw this thread on another website somewhere but doubted it too easily, i have 3 of these phones now xD hardbricked one, and on one it will not display anything, i have tried new screens but nothing, i think its the Ribbon cable on the motherboard.

T989 unbrick similar to T999

Does anyone know if someone can create a zip file similar to debrick zip used in the T999? Is it simply a boot image?

[Q] A few questions related to Hard Brick and QHSUSB_DLOAD

I am now owner of what may very well be a Hard Bricked Samsung Galaxy S3 with the inability to reach Download Mode and computer not recognizing my handheld. It ll happen't as I unlocked my bootloader to go in fastboot mode, it was then, all over. But of course as desperate as it may look like I've done some researches on Google and some people with different models managed to have some magic done in a situation like mine, but since I didn't own the same device the solutions were of no avail for me. So my question is, is there any sort of trickery to help me come out of this misery? Such as force installing new QHSUSB_DLOAD specifically for a Samsung Galaxy S3 or some battery related magic that could help me reach Download Mode where I could flash a stock rom back in and get back to normal? Any help would be much appreciated.
this just happened to me as well today, not to happy, my heart sank in, did u find any solutions as far as fixing this qhusb thing?
AFAIK there is no fix, same deal on all phones with the same SoC, like the one x. I could be way wrong though and I hope I am. Hope you guys get up and running soon.

Most likely they will say that you voided your warranty so you may have to take it in to a JTAG service.

Any update on this? My phone did this to me last night when updating CWM. I'm about to go to Radio Shack to buy some resisters to see if I can force download mode, like on Captivates.
EDIT: Even though this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrZUrE5Nqj0) shows that the Jig works with the GS3, I was not successful in putting it into download mode. I was able to with my captivate, just to make sure I was on the correct pins.
Hopefully the AT&T store will just swap it out and leave it at that, since I pay for insurance...I don't want to have to send it away to mobiletechvideos.com for JTAG repair, but will if necessary.

You can look all you want for a solution, there is NOT one for this problem, other than find a jtag service. Period!

Wow, this is a complete waste of time. This will not work with SG3
Talking about "waist of time" you are in the wrong forum, the att sgs3 doesn't have locked bootloader (this is the att/bell/Rogers forum) Go to the Verizon sgs3 forum...

Regardless of where the phone came from the end result is still the same... you guys are hard bricked. The only available solutions to you atm (and trust me on this I hard bricked mine aswell) is
A - Send your phone in for warrenty/insurance, dont worry about everyone saying you cant because of voided warrenty... your bootloader is screwed and they wouldnt be able to tell anything about rooting/cwm etc.
B - if warrenty/insurance is unavailable to you then your only other options are to send it to samsung to get it repaired on your own dime. Or save yourself a bit of money and send it for jtag repair which is what I did. If you live in the states the guy can have your phone back in your hands usually within 4-5 business days.
hi there
i have an SDcard of 4GB i tried on 4 S3 i747M hard bricked phones its worked ....this card let them alive to download mode by pressing volume down key +home key + power. i want to share this image but when ever i connect this card to my PC (windows) its shows (need to format your card)
is there any software so i can make image and share...to help those who hard-bricked their phones.

I reject your reality, and substitute my own! Ah, anyway.. any updates on this? Its been a year or so.. I have the sprint s3, but i believe it had an insecure boot image flashed to it. The emmc boot method has failed me thus far. Not sure if it's because mine is a 32gb and the debrick files for for 16gb '(which shouldn't matter), if the board for my 32gb is affected by a brick bug, or what.. The qpst tool just seems like it's the perfect tool to fix a bad bootloader on any qualcomm phone, but all the guides I've found are for other phones still. I accidentally dd'd an image of my EFS partition to the sbl2 partition. I looked up the international s3 table by mistake

Yes. Download a live linux distro, like knopix or such. Any linux distribution will work, really. Then in a terminal you would do something like
Code:
sudo dd if=/dev/sdX of=debrick-image.img
Where the "X" in "sdX" corresponds to the sdcard you want to copy. After you insert the card, in a terminal do:
Code:
dmesg | tail
and you should be able to see that it is sdb, sdc, sdd, etc. Google the usage of "dd" if you need more info.
Thanks for info i'll try this today

Hardbricked Galaxy W

I know that my current question will be so funny. But is there any chances to revive a hardbricked Galaxy W? I saw some post said that they can revive their bricked phone, but without any detailed information
Unless you can the device is under any of the status below:
1. Still can be on, and bootable to either CWM or Download mode. (flash in stock rom using odin)
2. Power port failure, unable to charge battery at all phone cannot be on due to battery being empty completely. (send to ssc if warranty still present or use external charger like multi pin supporters).
3. Battery issue, battery is dead. (get a new battery).
Or else, if warranty is present, send to ssc, in all odds they should not detect a rooted phone because all available interfaces are hidden.
Or else, send to local phone repair shop or ssc if they provide phone repairs and see if the price to repair it is worth it and try fixing it.
(in my country, likely the price is insane )
Lastly, to the trash it goes.
Click thanks if suggestion or solution is found useful
Ssc if you still have warranty

Someone has done a Transplant Surgery. Put the motherboard of T999 into a I9300 case.
You need to treat the phone as a T999 despite what it says on the case.
We seem to be seeing a lot of these "Franken-phones".:silly:

Probably a lot of people are replacing the housing (few bucks on ebay and elsewhere) so they can sell it as "like new" or something. Thats my guess anyway.

You just confirmed it by flashing t999 firmware in Odin, otherwise it would've failed or bricked the phone, it was either the motherboard or housing as Doc said

I wouldn't bother with trying for a return if it were me. You know it's a T999, so as long as you treat it as such, you should be fine. Up to you of course, but seems like it'd be a hassle and not much fun or return. And it could be that it is new and simply was a mistake at the factory. New employee grabs wrong box of parts type scenario. ...

when this phone came it was rooted and model no showing in the about phone was " gt i9300 ". now i flashed stock rom 4.3 for t999 it shows t999 in about phone.. ? is this possible that t999 having rom for gt i9300 ? or gt i9300 have rom for t999?
It's easy enough to change what it reads in the about phone menu. I believe simply changing the build.prop value will do that.

@op Best if you treat the phone as T999. I know you can make it look like I9300. But don't ever accidentally flash any of the I9300 stuff.

i have tried flashing i9300 rom when i didnt know the orignal model .. nothing hapend i tried many time to flash i9300 stock rom but it didnt brick my phone . it just get off and dont show any thing .. i tried some methods from internet it went to download mode again ... i think flashing other roms for all s3 model dont brick your phone. ? i dont think flashing t999 to my mobile confirms it that it is t999 motherboard.
If it's a t999, only T999 firmware will flash. Official firmware from any other model should fail.
And you cannot just flash any other S3's roms. I9300 and any US model are quite different from each other. The most compatible is the I747 from ATT. Other models require more work to port to our T999.

Woah. This thread just opened my eyes. I bought a I9300 phone off of ebay in a "unopened - new" condition. It came in the original box and everything (which I now know he/she just repackaged it). When I got it, I tried to flash a stock I9300 rom on it. It failed, saying "wrong dev" type. And I soft bricked it.
Now, I thought this was all my fault. I booted into download mode and it said "T999" so I thought I installed the wrong bootloader and messed it up. I opened a support thread, which had over three pages of replies. Everyone told me to get a new motherboard because I installed the wrong bootloader. Everytime I tried to flash a stock I9300 rom, it said "wrong dev_type" in download mode. Nothing flashed. I thought my phone was permanently screwed up so I returned it to the seller and he refunded me. So I didn't even have to return it... could have just flashed a T999 stock rom (maybe..).
NOW I realize, my phone was probably ACTUALLY a T999. I could have probably fixed the soft brick by just flashing a stock T999 rom. Woah. I was just flashing the WRONG stock rom the whole time? Because I thought I had a I9300?
Maybe I'm getting this all wrong, but nobody in the 3 page support thread even brought up the idea of me having a T999. This is just mind blowing.
Regardless, I now have a brand new T999 phone. That I purchased as a "T999 phone" not a "I9300-actually-a-T999-phone".

To get real help from here, you really need to give more information on what went wrong. Specifically, what caused the brick? Were you flashing any firmware? If so, what were you flashing and how?
A J-Tag is the ultimate solution to any bricking problem caused by firmware failure as this forces firmware installation directly to the motherboard so if you say you tried this and it didn't work, I'm afraid it may not be a firmware problem you have.
i plug in my phone deleted all my files ALL aand then flashed firmware of Hiemdall firmware then i got PASS on odin then Galaxy icon popup and then black screen and nothing more.
You said you already tried a jtag service and it didn't work. More than likely its irreparable on that case. Sorry to hear about that....
well i got nothing to say only ccry maybe.

Not to my knowledge. If a way is found it will be posted in the actual debrick thread. If its not there its not been done yet.

[Q] Hard Bricked S I I I

Greetings,
As you can already tell from the listing on this post, I have hard bricked my S III,
I accidently hard bricked my SIII, by mistaking flashing a international rom, In the description of the rom it even stated it WAS
for my model of phone. They Lied....
Anyways, I done some research and came across a few ways of debricking it, None of which seem to be working. Although I am able to
Get a red charge light on my phone when I plug it into my computer with the battery out. Also, I am unable to Boot into Recovery or Download Mode.
Can you please help me.

Yes, I am having problems finding the correct JTag jig. I have looked for ones that are for Galaxy S III's but none seem to be working with the SPH-L710. And has anyone actually used a JTag for unbricking this.

I looked on the internet and found that when you look up Jtag , you are given given results for what looks like a jig for (a given phone), and that it will let your phone boot into download mode.
Is that what you are talking about being doubtful. And I do thank you for your responses.
I have also tried using a debrick Img file and installing it to my 16gig sd card, and gone down that route, but that did not work, which is why I am considering spending the money on a Jtag Jig...
