Hello, all. I just rooted my Samsung Galaxy S3 with Odin, and I have 4.3
My next step is to remove bloatware. But I noticed that I can also get a Custom Rom; Which ROM supports wifi calling? I live in an apartment and the signal is crappy here so it must have it.
If you have any recommendations please let me know. Thanks!
I just tried S3Rx this week. It's got a great AROMA installer and lots of tweaks on top of 4.3
I would also recommend S3Rx :good: It has WiFi calling like you are looking for, it's stable, fast, has lots of features, and bloat removed. You can choose which features/apps/hacks you want installed when you are setting up in Aroma.
Wifi calling works for sure? I'm not seeing that feature listed on the 1st page?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2326763
Although I cannot confirm it works (I do not have T Mobile service) I can confirm it is there. It should be fully functional as it is based off the official T Mobile update.
Wi-Fi calling works. I use it too

Any ROM based on T-Mobile firmware should have WiFi calling.. Its a T-Mobile feature

As XDA is not a support site, and users are expected to do their own independant research to make the determination as to what rom is best for them, this thread is closed.
Best is truly up to the user. Read, learn and interact with ROM developers about their products in the development threads.

Just picked up my new Note II this week and was wondering if wiped out my tmo stock ROM.. would I be able to load an international stock ROM of X language/country region?
What I am aiming for is basically a fresh clean installed ROM without the tmo bloatware and etc. Also, would my Note II have any wifi calling issues being on a non-tmo stock ROM?
Any advice is appreciated and thank you in advance.
There should be a stock debloated rom floating around in the android dev sections. I used it untill jedi x7 came out and roms were becoming stable.

Wifi calling only available in TMobile roms. You will lose wifi calling if you install international roms or any roms that is not base on TMobile.

Yeah, I was afraid of that.. losing wifi calling. My area lacks coverage so I depend on wifi calling.
Hm.. is there a way to extract the wifi calling feature from stock tmo roms and install with other custom or international roms.

Well, in the sense that anything could be possible... sure. But it would be a huge undertaking much more involved then an extract-and-install scenario. My gut says the juice isn't worth the squeeze on that one... but I've been wrong on such things before so don't take my word for it.
My current ROM is Tweaked 1.5 I can confirm that Wi-fi calling works.
Should you choose to flash this rom (Tweaked 1.5) In Aroma installer, make sure you tick "install all t-mobile apps"

Fwiw - installing all t-mobile apps is not necessary for wifi calling to work on tweaked.
So I went ahead and flashed the i9505 Wanam Rom from here and it works great on my M919. The rom doesn't have a modem so I figured it would be safe and sure enough it was. Here's the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2283194
No wipe is required either. I simply flashed it using CWM and I now have a GT-I9505 model with all T-Mo bloatware gone! I really like the blue dialer on this too!
You will get reboot notifications, to remove that simply download "Bloatware Freezer" from Playstore and freeze the app called SEAndroid. That should take care of it.
Oh man... Fully functional though? I'd imagine Wifi Calling would be a goner, not that I ever use it anyway...

No Tmo features...obviously.
Yes, a lot of people don't realize their options for goodies go beyond just the specific m919 forum. Check out the general international S4 I9505 forums. It's were I spend most my time.
Development is lagging for the m919 variant. There are only a few ROMs & choices, with slow updates.... and plenty of time has passed since release, so I'm not sure how much better it will get. It's the one negative part about Sammy devices....fragmentation of the same model. It would be nice to see a majority of elite Devs working on the same model....like the One.
MANY of the mods/themes/ROMs etc...work great with our device. The radio is the only difference between various 9505 models.
Cheers!
Awesome. But who puts a modem in custom roms now days? Lol Now that I can see that this phone is actually the same hardware as the international we can have roms from there too..... In this case if a leak of a newer android update comes out we can have it port over. And not wait for tmobile,,,
If that the case than AT&T, VERIZON, AND SPRINT can be ported all like on the s3 but the fun part is the even international too
I hope this all works so far I'm very happy with wicked but more options are never a bad thing
Sent from my SGH-M919
Wow I had no idea I could use i9505 roms. I thought i may be able to but wasn't sure. Awesome.
Working great so far. Only problem I noticed so far was constant notification from SEAndroid. I simply freezed it using bloatware freezer from Playstore.

lol give us more time, mate. would you rather we release untested ROMs? i'm sure there are a number of us floating around here that have a ROM we can put out right this second but it is good practice to test first and ensure there are no issues. this can take a little bit. i myself am in testing phase. maybe the phone has been out a while, but i personally have only had one for 2 and a half weeks. a lot of stuff in the other sections will be ported over. i have to get a good working and stable base out first before i start adding in more tweaks that will seemingly overwhelm most typical users.
also, please be weary of flashing an entire ROM from i9505 section. if there are CSC bits contained within it, you won't have a signal like you're supposed to.
Totally agree with the previous poster. These things take time to make.
With that said this is good news. Hopefully, we can get a dev to port these over with TMO features & Csc files.
I know AT&T GN2 had an awesome dev that ported Int GN2 over with options for TMO, AT&T & Canadian carriers.

Any ROM made for I9505, you can use. Make sure the ROM doesn't have a modem baked into it (ROMs usually don't, but you must make sure). You will then have to download and app called "Bloatware Freezer" from Play Store and freeze the system app called 'SEAndroid'
thank for the tip mate

Works great, even support video call like you see in the Korean dramas. Too bad no US provider supports that
Any way if we manually added or flashed the T-Mobile bloat we could use visual voicemail at least?
Also do you feel that the battery life and overall performance is better in these ROMs?
Can we still use 4g/ 4g lte with these ROMs automatically or do we need to mess with the APN to a certain extent?
Thank you. I am considering flashing because I'm loving those ROMs and themes in the international forums especially that dark android theme that doesn't work well with our phones

T-Mobile feature only. I have seen no other carrier incorporate that into their roms.
You would have run TMO carriers roms to get that feature, and I think all have that feature.
Right, and I was asking in terms of custom ROMS that integrate that feature. As in designed for the t-mo model specifically since I am a T mobile customer the ROM I'm using now, .Infamous, supports WiFi calling. I was just wondering if there's others, or maybe a way to add it into other ROMS.

As far as CM and other's of that nature, not a single one. Also, don't expect it to be incorporated into non-TouchWiz ROMs any time soon.
I have been looking for a couple of weeks now but can't find an answer. I was wondering in cyanogenmod does it have wifi calling and wifi direct like the stock rom for tmobile? I use these two features extensively and have grown dissatisfied with the stock rom but don't want to flash to a custom rom if only the stock rom contains these features. Can someone who has flashed over help me out?
Cheers!
Ever since tmo started WiFi calling I've been flashing CyanogenMod since cm7 and never once had I ever had WiFi calling work. I don't think it's compatible so you'll probably never have that option with cm

Someone needs to discover Dandroid.
Just download Google Voice and MO+ for GV. Or another 3rd party app like TextMe.
And because no ones pointed it out yet, it is dependent on the touchwiz framework and cannot be on cm, or aosp, or aokp...
Not sure how you didn't find this. It gets asked all the time.
Take aerowinders advice.

I may be way off base, but I just upgraded to a new 4.4.2 CM based ROM and the dev believes WiFi Calling is exclusive to Samsung. I am under the impression it is exclusive to T-Mobile firmware. Does that even make a difference?
And can WiFi Calling be integrated into CM based ROMs?
Thanks for the help in advance!

Short answer - WiFi calling is only for T-Mobile and only for Touchwiz Roms. Period.

Thank you for the reply.
Now, I guess the question is why can't the WiFi calling script be implemented into an AOSP source?
Is it a matter of no dev feeling the motivation? It looks like the WiFi calling SDK is available...

WiFi Calling is something integrated deep into the OS. The SDK likely is for allowing apps to work with that closed source OS system, not to duplicate it. It would have to be completely reverse engineered by studying network packets generated by the phone during WiFi calling, figure out the protocol and any encryption used, find any encryption keys needed, and rewrite everything from scratch based around those findings. Not an easy task, and for the most part it's of fairly low reward to most users as normal calling works fine. That said I was reading a discussion recently on /r/linux about the Antrax kernels (forget what device it was for) and the developer witholding source code (which is illegal under the GPL if you distribute binaries). It looked like one of the sources that might be witheld is an open source WiFi calling implementation.
http://phoronix.com/forums/showthread.php?93124-AnthraX-Linux-Kernels-Remain-Closed-Source&p=385801
If he really does have WiFi calling working at the kernel level then we should be pressuring whoever is entitled to make him release code to do so. By the nature of the GPL license anything at all that goes into a kernel binary released to the public MUST be released under the same license (GPLv2) and thus those people who received the binary are entitled to his source code which they can then redistribute.
Wow. Really good info. Thank you for sharing.
I do happen to be in the minority group that has shoddy coverage, so wifi calling is a godsend.
It's unfortunate firms like the one discussed in that post don't have to be 'resolved' quickly, given the volatile responses. Either make them share it asap, or figure out the price points and let everyone know how the game is going to be played...
Here's to hoping a dev feels compelled to go through all the hard work you mentioned nonetheless. Cheers!

My wife has an LG optimus l9 (I think that's what it is anyway) with wifi calling - it's a T-Mobile-variant phone thing more than a particular android skin (TW, Sense, ...whatever LG calls its thing..., etc.).
Isn't wifi calling just on t mobile regardless of the phone
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
WiFi calling is on many T-mo phones, but not all and it's not only Samsung and it doesn't have to be smart phone either. My father has it on some older flip phone, not sure what it is running but I'm sure it's not touch wiz, probably not even Android. I think even some old Nokias had it under Symbian?

In reference to the Note 3 it is only Touchwiz.

Is it fair to assume that if a developer's ROM is TW-based, Wifi calling is implemented as 'standard', or would the developer need to specifically build it in?
I'm curious because I see TW-based ROMs for the Note 3 that don't say anything about Wifi calling as a feature.

It has to be both TW-based AND TMo(carrier)-based (meaning the international TW bases won't have the native Wifi Calling feature).
