[Q] Force S-Pen use only - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know if there are any apps or the like out there that can force use of the S-Pen only on the screen?
Something that is set up so that you can only interact with the device using the stylus and not your hands.

Samsung is providing an SDK for the SPen, you should find all what you need there.

Sorry, my mistake. What I mean is, how does the phone itself detects a hovering stylus pen on its screen at the hardware level?

Its the nature of the wacom technology.
It's magnetic based, so the location of the stylus is known as soon as you get close to the screen.
The pressure sensitivity is detected by the pen itself, not the screen. The tip of the pen is basically a button.
Current versions of touchwiz and cyanogen for the note 1 both contains the airplay like 'show me the cursor' ability. What the sdk did not have before was the airplay action of 'do something if the cursor is hovering above you'

[ROOT] How to semi-autoswitch keyboards to write with S Pen

If you're like me and you use a different keyboard (like 4.2) but want to also use Samsung's S Pen to write words then you know that sometimes it can feel tedious to manually switch between keyboards.
Well there's a way to semi-automatically switch, and the best way I've found was to use the Keyboard Manager app.
I found this method as an app request in the i7100 forums
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1925772&page=4
Now if there really was a way to fully implement an auto switch when I take out my S Pen then that would be great, but for the mean time I share this.
Curious.
Cant that be done by tasker?

If there was a way I wish I'd know already, I think it should be possible but I don't know how or where to begin to get the task done.

Custom S Pen Sounds

Hi Xdaers,
I'm sure that most of you know about 'Note Buddy' and 'S Pen Toolbox' allowing you to customise the 'attach/detach' sounds of the 'S Pen', along with some other features.
I'm hoping that someone can point me to an app or method that will allow me to customise the sound emitted when you move the device too far away from the 'S Pen'.
I was able to do this on my 'Note 8', now I've forgotten how, but was definitely not through 'Root'.
Any help would be much appreciated, this is the last step in the customisation of my 'Note 10 plus 5G' and its driving me crazy.
Peace...
I think those aspects (sounds of s-pen) no longer work. I mean Note Buddy no longer works for me --itll work for like 2 minutes then revert back to stock sound. So I dont know at this point if those other sounds can be changed

'S Pen Toolbox' sounds modding feature
definitely works on my 'Exynos', I don't use it's other features so can't attest to those. The only thing is that it doesn't include changing the proximity alarm sound.
try this

You Sir/Madam are a diamond, many thanks. ?
Yeah, s pen keeper is a very useful app, I use it since my note 7
Why use an app for that? That function is built-in...

It's not about the function, it's about the sound, and you'd know this if you'd read the thread from the start.
For instance with 'S Pen toolbox' I'm able to change the S Pen detach sound to that of a 'light sabre' and the attach sound to that of a door being locked. With 'S Pen keeper' the proximity alarm sound has been changed to that of a klaxon.
Small things, but they make the device uniquely mine.
I just installed it and change the sound, but it doesn't play it when I use the S Pen

Have you given it 'Administrator' permission?, there's a toggle in the app for it.
Also, make sure that notification volume is turned on.
Ensure that no 'Accessibility Services' are enabled that may interfere with notification sounds, then restart the device.

Yes, I did all that and didn't work. I just installed S Pen Toolbox and worked fine

I guess 1 out of 2 isn't too bad, considering that no updates in years, but for me, S Pen Keeper also works for the proximity functionality.
Maybe try a different sound file/format.

Have a look to Pentastic original Samsung App for Spen ?
Pentastic is fantastic.
These are the customisations that should have shipped with the S pen from the get go.
No need for 3rd party apps now, except for the 'proximity alarm' customisation, so Samsung if you're listening, please add this in the next 'Pentastic' update.
No go with Pie... screw Q

Use S-Pen in unsupported apps/games?

I recently bought a note 10+ and was surprised to find out that the S-Pen doesn't work in some apps.
After some googling, I found out that apparently app devs need to individually add support for the S-Pen to their apps for it to work, and that the pen touching the screen is a different 'input' to using a finger.
What I couldn't find out was if there is any workaround for this.
Is there any way to force the S-Pen to work in apps that don't support it?

Did you ever find a solution for this? I am in a similar situation. Thanks

Sadly no.
If there is any solution, I haven't found it, and would still be interested in hearing one as well.

Question Pleased with myself - different launchers on the two screens

Been a while since I tinkered and so with some trepidation I thought I'd try the switching between different launchers using Tasker.
After some swearing I managed to get it working using the guide HERE
Got Niagra on the front and Nova on the large screen!
Thanks, man! How well does it work for you?

Thanks for the tip. I got it going too. Now I remember why I hated it. I had some fun with it for a bit though. Definitely not efficient but without hex or root. It was a nostalgic trip back to 2010
Can't seem to get it to work. Just a question, once i set it up i get [ No active profiles (3 of 3 enable) ] on the notification panel for the tasker. Is it supposed to be like this or the profile should be active for it to work?

Sorry, I didn't get it. Can you please elaborate.
state > sensors > any sensor > hinge angle
That's awesome. I bought Tasker like a year ago. Everytime I download it I open it, get frustrated, then uninstall it, lol.
I think I love niagra though. It's so minimal on that big screen i think it would be better to just create a one page widget than run two launchers. That side animation was on one preset years ago. I sent my phone to safe mode play with stuff using adb today still have no idea what I did that prompted it.
@jemfalor Sorry I am a noob to the tasker. Where do I select hinge angel in the any sense?
under type, press magnifying glass
@jemfalor thanks for the help mate but it is not working for me. I will pass into it until someone post a detailed video as I have done everything right which Is mentioned in the guide but still no luck.
it is working. just learn to figure things out. change interval type to sample,
Works, but it's glitchy. Sometimes the stock home screen returns until I press the home key. When the device is unfolded and the main screen is visible, pressing the home button causes Nova Launcher to reload, which is pretty annoying. Worst of all, after configuring this, the keyboard keeps reverting back to the Samsung keyboard instead of Gboard, and sometimes the keyboard refuses to pop up at all. Time to undo this damage.

does "tasker" work faster than the "Bixby Routines" method? im using Microsoft launcher (small) Nova 7 (larger)

Pretty instantaneous I find, and if the wrong launcher shows, (although this is rare) a swipe up reverts the screen to the correct one.

The Bixby Routines version works well for me.
Now.... If there was only a way to have two instances of Nova Launcher running on the device at the same time, I could have version one layout on the cover screen and version two layout on the inner screen.
Anyone any ideas?

Maybe you can help sorry for bothering you. Everything seems to be setup except when folded or unfolded I have to hit the home button manually for the launcher to change. Do you happen to know how I can fix this?.
