[ROOT] How to semi-autoswitch keyboards to write with S Pen - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

If you're like me and you use a different keyboard (like 4.2) but want to also use Samsung's S Pen to write words then you know that sometimes it can feel tedious to manually switch between keyboards.
Well there's a way to semi-automatically switch, and the best way I've found was to use the Keyboard Manager app.
I found this method as an app request in the i7100 forums
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1925772&page=4
Now if there really was a way to fully implement an auto switch when I take out my S Pen then that would be great, but for the mean time I share this.

Curious.
Cant that be done by tasker?

If there was a way I wish I'd know already, I think it should be possible but I don't know how or where to begin to get the task done.

Just got the slide. Two quick questions for people who are more familiar with it...

First, is there any way to enable auto-punctuation when typing a text from the physical keyboard? It's not a deal breaker, just kind of a minor annoyance.
Second, also pertaining to messaging, is there any way to enable sending the message on hitting enter?

As of now there is no way to do both the things you are asking about but i am sure as the time passes,we all be finding new things so hang tight
Haha no worries. I just upgraded from my G1 (I got on day one) running CM 5.0.7, so I'm just missing a few small features.
I can wait 'til root happens here.

Yeah root will happen but i am not sure when since alot of people dont have the phone but i am waiting for that as well
if swype is set for text input, auto punctuation doesn't work with the hardware keyboard. you have to turn on 'prediction' in the hardware qwerty options for the punctuation.

First, I downloaded handscent from the market and it allows send on hitting enter and it has a nice pop-up too.
Second, I have the HTC keyboard suggesting on the hard keyboard and it does auto punctuation. Hope this helps.

Haha .. phone is really slacking with the hard keyboard, you always have to click fields to get it to type and this non auto punctuating sucks I mean it use to auto correct i to I and it can't even do that let alone apostrophe's and such
Just tried the htc_ime with auto prediction and spell correct on, on the hard keyboard.. wow, its awesome and just as fast as not having it on.. on the g1 it would make the phone and typing a pain and slower with the hard keyboard. Too bad that you have to have touch keyboard enable for it to work, I like swype better for the virtual keyboard.
excuse my ignorance, but where are the htc_ime settings, the physical keyboard is driving me effing crazy. it was fine on my cliq, did all the auto punctuate and such, it feels like there are no useful settings for the keyboard for the phone.
thanks yous

the keyboard is there but not settings. just like the dragon kb
If your using touch input instead of swype, then just go to settings, language and keyboard, touch input, text input, prediction and spell correction enabled for hardware QWERTY.. then it will auto correct and auto correct very good. The prediction gets kinda annoying but it has to be on. I wish there was a way to get it to work while having swype enabled for the soft keyboard.
Turbo, I have everything checked for hardware qwerty. Maybe ill just wait for root and vanilla 2.1-2.2
Long click on a text field, input method, touch input.. then try
Oh my how we have de-volved.
Buy BetterKeyboard from the market, enable it, go into settings and check off "(experimental) show suggestions for physical keyboard". No device is perfect right out of the box and that's why we're here.
Its so weird that it auto corrects everything in gtalk! Try it out let me know if its only my phone
Okay so the phone autocorrects everything perfectly, other than in the stock messaging app! But gtalk browser and email all get corrected. I also installed handcent and it autocorrects in there! Seems like the stock messaging app will definitely need an update.

[Q] a virtual touchpad/trackball for evo? for on-screen navigation

is there any on-screen virtual touchpad or trackball that would permanently dock at the bottom of the screen that would move a 'mouse' like pointer or selection area on-screen? with the evo having just a large touch screen, there's no way to 'highlight' things without just pressing it with your finger. Does this make sense?
the touch input htc keyboard has those 4 navigation arrows across the bottom of the keyboard, which i'd love to port to swype too, but the only way to use them is to open the full keyboard, which covers too much of the screen if you aren't typing something.
BTW - did everyone know if you hold down(long press) the menu button, you can toggle the keyboard anywhere you are, not just a text-input box? love it
you should really try searching the forums, there is already a thread on this idea.

that, I believe, is actually not what he's talking about. I believe you are looking for something along the lines of Virtual Trackball, version 1.2 is out
NOTE: i believe it requires ROOT, so make sure you're rooted.

If you go all the way through the thread, it is about Virtual Trackball by the end of it. In the end, they wanted Virtual Trackball to use the touch sensitive area on the search button. The developer never really got back to them.
But the OP seems to want something like the CM6 mouse support without actually needing to use a mouse. Admittedly, this would be kind of cool. Ultimately though, you'd be using a portion of the touch input to control a mouse that is simulating using your finger. It's a little redundant seeming.

[Q] slide to answer galaxy nexus

hi,
can't seem to find a solution to this via search since not sure what to call it.
this screen when the phone rings and you have go grab that thing in the middle and slide it in one direction or the other.....how do i replace it with almost anything else? can't stand it. at least if you could see before you grab that center thing which direction you are supposed to pull the thing.
i'm rooted and using liquid rom.
thanks
Uhh. Once you do it once, you know which way to go. Don't see the issue there lol. Do you get fumbled by the stock lockscreen too? Forget which way is camera and which way is unlock? Cmon...
I'm sure there are ways to replace it.
anyone helpful out there?

What exactly are you looking for it to do?
Gingerbread had slide right to answer, slide left to effectively stop the ringer and send the caller to voicemail.
ICS has the exact same functionality, and looks much more polished doing so in my opinion.
But I am curious, what is it you want to happen/see?
basically looking for just buttons to push...nothing to slide.
a couple things about me that the first smart*** "helper" didn't care to take into consideration.. just insult me...and thank you for that by the way! 1) i don't get very many calls. i mostly just use this thing as a computer so when i do get a call i don't always remember very well which way i will need to pull that slider and 2) i have 2 conditions in my hands which don't always allow me to "hang onto" that slider thing.
since, i found an app called "EZ button" which has 3 buttons that are displayed on screen when the phone rings. you either push the buttons or hold for a couple seconds. SO FAR...it seems to work in ICS/Liquid though it doesn't really mention being ICS compatible.
i will try out ACG as the prior poster metioned. i tried initially but it didn't appreciate that i have ads blocked so i have to edit the hosts file....in time.

EZ Answer looks like it does what you want it to do and more. It incorporates all of the other 'EZ' applications that cost 99 cents into one for I guess a good deal of $1.99.
EZTouch on its own looks like the standalone product you are looking for.
and
EZButton seems like another standalone product that does what you want to do, but also incorporates your volume buttons to answer by speaker or regularly.
Now whether each work for ICS and particularly this phone, I don't know. I see that you already tried 'EZ Button' so I'm guessing all will work, but I'm not 100% on that.
Good Luck.

Custom S Pen Sounds

Hi Xdaers,
I'm sure that most of you know about 'Note Buddy' and 'S Pen Toolbox' allowing you to customise the 'attach/detach' sounds of the 'S Pen', along with some other features.
I'm hoping that someone can point me to an app or method that will allow me to customise the sound emitted when you move the device too far away from the 'S Pen'.
I was able to do this on my 'Note 8', now I've forgotten how, but was definitely not through 'Root'.
Any help would be much appreciated, this is the last step in the customisation of my 'Note 10 plus 5G' and its driving me crazy.
Peace...
I think those aspects (sounds of s-pen) no longer work. I mean Note Buddy no longer works for me --itll work for like 2 minutes then revert back to stock sound. So I dont know at this point if those other sounds can be changed

'S Pen Toolbox' sounds modding feature
definitely works on my 'Exynos', I don't use it's other features so can't attest to those. The only thing is that it doesn't include changing the proximity alarm sound.

It's not about the function, it's about the sound, and you'd know this if you'd read the thread from the start.
For instance with 'S Pen toolbox' I'm able to change the S Pen detach sound to that of a 'light sabre' and the attach sound to that of a door being locked. With 'S Pen keeper' the proximity alarm sound has been changed to that of a klaxon.
Small things, but they make the device uniquely mine.
I just installed it and change the sound, but it doesn't play it when I use the S Pen

Have you given it 'Administrator' permission?, there's a toggle in the app for it.
Also, make sure that notification volume is turned on.
Ensure that no 'Accessibility Services' are enabled that may interfere with notification sounds, then restart the device.

I guess 1 out of 2 isn't too bad, considering that no updates in years, but for me, S Pen Keeper also works for the proximity functionality.
Maybe try a different sound file/format.

Have a look to Pentastic original Samsung App for Spen ?
Pentastic is fantastic.
These are the customisations that should have shipped with the S pen from the get go.
No need for 3rd party apps now, except for the 'proximity alarm' customisation, so Samsung if you're listening, please add this in the next 'Pentastic' update.
No go with Pie... screw Q

Want to Change S-Pen Sounds without having to use another app

The Note 20 Ultra is Great, but I would like to be able to change the S-Pen Sounds without having to install another App or a Launcher.
I would likento know where the Hidden Folder would be for the S-Pen Sounds so I can Change the Sound for when it is removed as well as it being put back.
If Anyone Knows this Information, then Please post it here for Everyone to see.
Agian, No Mods, No Apps, and No Launchers to change the S-Pen Sounds.

I'm going to just go assume you'd need root to change the audio files that are most likely located in the system partition.
Do you have the Exynos or Snapdragon variant?
Tried to on the 10+, no joy.
Be nice if there be a Good Lock apk to do this...
It's a new phone.... you're not gonna find a way this soon in the game to do it without some other app. Do they even have root yet for it? Cause those folders you need root to view.

Yea, that was the app I was referring to. Seems decent, just gotta find some good pointers and sounds.
The good thing about Pentastic is you can install it as a standalone, good lock is not required. Pentastic is pretty good fun to use, well worth a try, just to try out new pen removal and insert noises is worth it.
Those looking to add lightsaber sounds to spen, download the lightsaber notification sounds from the zedge and use timbre app to reduce the volume of those files by 50% since they are very loud. 50% less is perfect balance.
I didn't get it on the playstore.. you can down load the apk from other sources.

Everyone is Talking about Good Lock.
What My Original Post was referring to was for being able to change the S-Pen Sounds without having to Install ANY other Apps that eat up Space and Resources.
I wish that by going through the System Files somewhere in Android that the S-Pen Sound Files Can be Found and Replaced for Both taking Out the S-Pen and Inserting the S-Pen.
Hopefully the Sounds are in an MP3 Format and can be Swapped without Any Problems and would stay even after Updates.
