unlocked phone, changed CID to HTC__E11,
relocked phone, flashed firmware 3.14.401.31, ran RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_JB_45_S_HTC_Europe_3.14.401.31_R_Radio_5.1204.162.29_release_302015_signed.exe
unlocked phone, flashed CWM recovery 5.8.4.0
problem: ROM will not start up and run reliably. I can't start recovery from bootloader, so I can't install another rom.

further history:
phone was imported into new zealand from unknown origin
when I started working on the phone, I remember is having CID: 11111111, and had HBOOT 0.96
I think Hong Kong zoned firmware and RUU 1.29.708.15 were a combination which allowed me entry to CWM successfully, though low hboot version limited me from flashing cyanogenmod 10.1/ 10.2. Didn't try other ROMs
when I was flashing earlier, the battery charge was above 4000mV, it seems to have lost a lot of charge overnight
any help or advice around finding the right firmware/RUU that might help me install a working ROM would be amazing.
if I'm barking up the wrong tree also happy to explore other leads.
thanks in advance
okey..for working recovery download cwm.img and flash it from FASTBOOT..then you can restore stock backup or flash custom rom..

fastboot oem writecid 11111111
11111111 - Super CID other CID you can check in nandroid backup thread mine is HTC__032 x.xx.401.x WWE base
phone no longer booting
thanks for everyone's suggestions.
since the first post I haven't been able to try anything, because phone seems unresponsive (will not boot at all).
I've tried leaving it all night plugged into a wall charger (while off).
If it is battery, I'm aware of charging issues this phone has and the batchfile/ cwm 5.8.4.0 workarounds, but I can't get into recovery nor bootloader. If it's charge is there any way to get the phone enough charge?
Is the phone bricked?
phone now has some charge, still being awkward
ok have access to bootloader again. I'm trying rerunning the RUU, but having trouble... RUU tries to restart phone but fails.
I'm wondering if i've misunderstood how the region matters. the only stability i have seen is with old honkkong region firmware and old RUU (RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_hTC_Asia_HK_1.29.708.15_Radio_2.1204.122.17_release_268338_signed.exe)
can anyone give me a clear idea of whether using x.xx.401.xx on an s-off phone makes any difference ...
or should i be looking for x.xx.708.xx ruu and 708/hongkong firmware?

Can anyone help and explain the process for me to have an up to date 4.2.2 Android HTC One X?
Basically I had previously tried to install Viper X on my HTC One X with total failure - phone is rooted & unlocked SIM.
So I had to learn the hard way and found a RUU that worked on the phone after flashing it - however the OTA will not install 1. On it's own 2. Manually via CWM.
There is an error via CWM when trying to update OTA_ENDEAVOR_U_JB_50_S_H3G_UK_4.18.771.4-3.14.771.34_release_3327518r9ohuh8uqo0olne.zip I guess it is telling me it's not the same CID?
My CID is H3G_001 currently although I am not sure that this is the correct one for my phone - it was the only RUU I could find that worked!
So I ask:
1. Is there available an update that I can manually install for my RUU? and where can I find it?
2. Is there another stock recovery RUU I can install and then update the OTA my phone has downloaded? and if so where can I download it and how do I install?
Really hoping you guys can help?
PS - Does my RUU have to be branded to 3 (Three) ? Can it not be a Tmobile stock ROM as that's whom I am with?
Fingers crossed someone has the answer . . . . .
To be able to receive the 4.2.2 you need following things:
Stock Rom
Stock Kernel
Stock Recovery
Unlocked/Relocked/Locked bootlaoder doesn't matter.
Patience
Root will be lost after OTA.
If you have all of this you just have to wait for it to arrive for your CID.
For now it's only out on WWE cids and some Vodaphone ones...
To get the stock rom ether restore a nandroid or install a RUU for 4.0.3 or higher, and update it to 4.1.1.
Then it's just waiting...
Alternatively you could flash the stock WWE version that you can get at the ARHD thread, but it's better to wait for the OTA as it will update the hboot as well

Cheers for the info - problem is I am unsure which stock rom to use and where to get it from - any idea's? - I tried a few previously by guesswork but then had issues like no Wi-Fi or No signal etc - the one I have now was the only one that worked - CID H3G_UK - not sure which operator it was on. Can you point me to a good stock rom where I can start?

this is a nandroid for your cid and main version https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B6Nhau4n1i__NWN6VTQxcWgzbkk/edit from matt95's thread. follow his instructions and Don't forgot to flash the stock recovery once the nandroid is installed. once all that is done you should be able to OTA to 4.2.2.

The same problem
Hey everyone,
I have almost the same problem. everyone is receiving the OTA update except me. I emailed the HTC support center and they said since my phone was purchased in Singapore I won't get the update. (Even though I live in the UK)
So, does anyone know how I should change my ROM to a UK version so I get the update? (I'm not very technical, please someone explain to me in simple words)
Thank you everyone in advance.
Hey there,
i have a strage problem, after rooting a lot of android devices the m8 behaves kind of strange.
I got a brand new M8 (Hbot 3.15xxxx and 4.4.2) for my girl friend and unlocked the device with htc dev. after this i flashed twrp 2.7.0.2, no big deal.
Now i made a backup (thank god....) and downloaded viper rom and arhd roms.
But if i install a rom (does not matter which one, with wipe and so on) the script tells me installtion is finished, but if i hit the next button the m8 vibrates and turns off, at least the screen goes dark.
the only way to wake up the m8 is to push power and volume up button, but the only thing i see is the htc logo with the red text at the buttom.
adb reboot boatloader does not work, but reboot recocery does. Wipen cache and so does not fix the problem, the stock backup can be restored.
do you have any idea what's going on, i really want to run viper or arhd on the m8.
thanks!

Just a bug in TWRP, nothing to worry about. Disable from TWRP the screen timeout and you are good to go.

i don't think thats the problem. if the screen would timeout (like while doing backup or restore) i could wake it up.
but the device is not booting anymore then. Even if i do a adb reboot recovery and make a clean reboot. Just the htc logo with the warning.
could it be the firmware ? i dont see any information for hboot 3.15.....
thanks

Right ... your current hboot is 3.16 so it's 1.54.707.7
I suggest that you restore 1.54.707.7 stock Backup, flash back stock recovery and do the OTA (no need to relock bootloader or S-On .. OTA update work on unlocked bootloader and S-Off)

Well nothing strange here. You are on older firmware trying to flash a 4.4.3 ROM. First boot might take up to 15 minutes...But after that you will experience slow boots and/or wifi or bt issues.
You can either try to s-off and upgrade firmware or try a 4.4.2 rom like ARHD 8.1
First of all try the following. Flash the ROM and reboot and let it sit there for around 15 minutes to see if it boots. And we can see your choices from there.
If i want to update with OTA,
which stock recovery i need to flash ? my version.main is empty :/ so i am not sure how to flash the right recovery. there a lots of them: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376

it's either 1.12.111.18 or 1.57.111.2
it is 1.12.111.18
at the moment the OTA to 1.57.111.2 is running
some german forums wrote that any 1.12.xxx recovery will work for the ota. let's see if there is another ota after this one.
edit: 1.57 went well, now ota to 1.70
Hi Friends,
First things first - I have looked up and tried several things that other folks facing similar issues have tried. None of it has worked for me.
Coming to the problem now.
It all began when I decided to unroot and install a custom ROM on my stock HTC One X and downloaded a stable build from http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_endeavoru.
I followed the tutorials and unlocked my device and started off with CWM recovery 5.8.2.7. Did some experiemenation with backup and recovery. So far, so good.
I decided to use the 4.4 ROM and as per some information available it needed me to update to CWM 6.0.4.8. I did so but when I tried to go in recovery, the screen went blank. Tried it multiple times without luck.
Then I switched over to TWRP 2.7.1 and used it to install the cm-11-20141112-SNAPSHOT-M12-endeavoru.zip. It failed with status 7. Assert checks on bootloader ver failed (as per checks it would need anything 1.28 or higher). I am on hboot 1.12. I extracted the boot.img from the rom zip and flashed it from fastboot. It showed no change in hboot version (maybe this is where I faulted). It still won't install rom zip as I would expect.
Now the phone won't go beyond "Quietly Brilliant" screen on power on. Recovery to saved backup says its successful but it still gets stuck at same screen on reboot.
Would appreciate help and pointers from anyone who could help.
Thanks in advance,
Kunal

Hi Thant,
Thanks for your tip. I will give this a try (though I will be able to try it out someone later this week only and provide update how it went).
Having said that, I have one question though - the link to RUU you specified looks like for unlocked HTC Europe version. I'm from India and I found that there might be one with same radio for India here.
Not doubting your advice, but just want to know what is the basis for knowing what RUU one must use ?
Also, can I choose the one for India (RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_JB_45_S_hTC_Asia_India_3.14.720.24_Radio_5.1204.162.29) ?
thanks,

Also, can I choose the one for India (RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_JB_45_S_hTC_Asia_India_3.14.720.24_Radio_5.1204.162.29) ?
thanks,

yes if you want, most of the people like European version not Asian. It is your choice you are S-OFF and you can flash what you want on your phone. And the radio is the same

Hi Thant,
I did try the RUU you told me to use but update failed with error 159.
There are some RUUs for Indian models at http://www.androidruu.com/?developer=Endeavor and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2189048 but none for JB.
I have provided the getvar dump earlier but can't seem to find what I need to use (sorry for being a noob here). Please suggest what I can do more.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
thanks,
Kunal

Hi Thant,
I have not yet tried tried the ICS RUU you suggested. But before I go ahead, here's some more info.
The Android version, HTC Sense version both say "Protected"
Software number is "Unknown"
HTC SDK API level is 4.23
Kernel is 2.6.39.4-g7ecc196
Baseband version is 2.1204.135.20
Build no. is 0.1.0.0 (20130509 EndeavorU_Generic_WWE#178434)
Boot loader says -
ENDEAVORU XE ENG S-OFF RH
CID-11111111
HBOOT- 1.12.2000 (PJ461****)
CPLD-None
MICROP-None
RADIO-2.1204.135.20
Now, should I go ahead with the ICS RUU ?
How do I know what Android version I'm on ? Why would it say protected ? Any command I can fire from fastboot/adb ?
[getvar says (bootloader) version-main: 0.0.0.178434]
Thanks for all your time & help,

Hi Thant,
Before trying what you suggested (for manual update) I tried the ICS RUU once again. It went through fine this time not sure why, then I did an OTA upgrade and now I'm on Android 4.0.4 hboot 1.12 (same as before but on 2.17.720.2). There are no more OTA updates available, though HTC india website says there is one available for 3.14.720.24 which is JB version and should automatically update my hboot which I can then hopefully use to update to 4.4 ROM. Do you think what I think is going to work ?
But I can't find the OTA firmware for 3.14.720.24. There was one available here but no more.
There's one here but not sure about the authenticity of this.
I have downloaded the firmware zip you shared but it seems the file is corrupt.
Thanks,
Kunal

2.17.401.2 has four RUUs listed tried all of them but still doesnt work. When I look for Nandroid backups there is nothing that corresponds to HTC__001 and 2.17.401.2.

hat was spot on Sophia! You are a star.
So I got all greedy and wanted Lollipop sooner than when my provider did an OTA.
I tried a bunch of roms and found that Cyanogen was able to work for my phone (a lot of others gave me that issue where the Wifi wouldn't work, I subsequently worked out this was a firmware issue).
In an effort to try and fix a number of bugs I've been attempting to get S-Off. I downloaded Sunshine but Sunshine told me my ROM wasn't close enough to stock for it. So I put another Rom on it, but then mysteriously I lost root access.
So I did a hard wipe.
And now I find myself unable to install any ROMs on it at all (I'm trying to find a stock Kitkat one that will hopefully run).
So I can't get S-Off. I'm not even sure if it's still rooted (though I do have Philz installed and that loads when I put it into recovery mode). And so I'm not even remotely sure what I should do.
Yay!
Bricked mine too!

I just joined this forum, so I don't know if I should be posting here or on a new thread, so let me know I can delete this, move it if I'm out of line.
I'm in the same boat. Just softbricked my girlfriend's Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900a)
Her phone was unlocked AT&T and it auto updated to 5.0 Lollipop update OTA about a week ago.
It's been running like **** so I thought I'd downgrade it to 4.2.2 via ODIN
ODIN (failed) trying to install
G900AUCU1ANCE_G900AATT1ANCE_G900AUCU1ANCE_HOME.tar.gz
I read in one of these forums that downgrading wouldn't work but they found a work around
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785363
Oh yeah and then my phone bricked so there is that, my GF is being really understanding but I'm hoping I can recover this!!!!
Edit: My problem was resolved here

your mistake is using CWM recovery, Sense custom roms require TWRP recovery, so you need to start by flashing the latest version of that.
once flashed, go in and do a full wipe. dont forget after wiping to reboot back into recovery for the changes to take effect, when you go to reboot it will say something like you have no OS installed, are you sure you want to reboot, just say yes, and select DO NOT INSTALL to SuperSU, the rom you falsh will be pre rooted.
TWRP latest version supports MTP, so when your in recovery main window, plug your phone into the computer and your sdcard and internal storage will open on your computer, just copy a rom to your sdcard, once copied, unplug your phone and install it.
use something like ARHD 41 or Maximus HD, they are close enough to stock for sunshine to work.
have a look here for a rom, dont download anything too modded or fancy as you'll be coming away from stock then http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/development

your going to need s-off and convert your phone im sorry, doesnt seem to be anything about for your phone, firmware or RUU's.
You'll need to convert to get the latest firmware on your phone, unless you have it via an OTA or something like that ? convert to WWE 401 or Dev Edition 1540, currently your on 980 Austraillia Unbranded.
once you get s-off, convert is easy, all you need to do is change your CID number with a fastboot command, change your MID number, flash the firmware for Dev Ed or WWE, and then run the RUU.

easiest thing for you to do is change your cid first, change it to WWE HTC__001 the command is fastboot oem write cid HTC__001 (thats 2 underscores, CID number is always 8 characters long)
so with your phone in the bootloader fastboot usb mode and plugged into the computer, run these3 commands
fastboot oem write cid HTC__001
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
next is to change you mid, so enter recovery and put this file on your SDcard http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2779524
install it like you would with a rom, and follow the instructions on screen, when given the options to select mid to change to, select the one for WWE international.
when you have finished those 2 things, post your fastboot getvar all again please, should be a new and updated one, again without imei and serial number

I never bother with superCID, always seems to cause me more headaches than good.
the 2 best cid's to go for in my books are HTC__001 WWE (world wide engish) or BS_US001 Dev edition, they get the fastest updates.
