Hey there,
i have a strage problem, after rooting a lot of android devices the m8 behaves kind of strange.
I got a brand new M8 (Hbot 3.15xxxx and 4.4.2) for my girl friend and unlocked the device with htc dev. after this i flashed twrp 2.7.0.2, no big deal.
Now i made a backup (thank god....) and downloaded viper rom and arhd roms.
But if i install a rom (does not matter which one, with wipe and so on) the script tells me installtion is finished, but if i hit the next button the m8 vibrates and turns off, at least the screen goes dark.
the only way to wake up the m8 is to push power and volume up button, but the only thing i see is the htc logo with the red text at the buttom.
adb reboot boatloader does not work, but reboot recocery does. Wipen cache and so does not fix the problem, the stock backup can be restored.
do you have any idea what's going on, i really want to run viper or arhd on the m8.
thanks!

Just a bug in TWRP, nothing to worry about. Disable from TWRP the screen timeout and you are good to go.

i don't think thats the problem. if the screen would timeout (like while doing backup or restore) i could wake it up.
but the device is not booting anymore then. Even if i do a adb reboot recovery and make a clean reboot. Just the htc logo with the warning.
could it be the firmware ? i dont see any information for hboot 3.15.....
thanks

Right ... your current hboot is 3.16 so it's 1.54.707.7
I suggest that you restore 1.54.707.7 stock Backup, flash back stock recovery and do the OTA (no need to relock bootloader or S-On .. OTA update work on unlocked bootloader and S-Off)

Well nothing strange here. You are on older firmware trying to flash a 4.4.3 ROM. First boot might take up to 15 minutes...But after that you will experience slow boots and/or wifi or bt issues.
You can either try to s-off and upgrade firmware or try a 4.4.2 rom like ARHD 8.1
First of all try the following. Flash the ROM and reboot and let it sit there for around 15 minutes to see if it boots. And we can see your choices from there.
If i want to update with OTA,
which stock recovery i need to flash ? my version.main is empty :/ so i am not sure how to flash the right recovery. there a lots of them: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376

it is 1.12.111.18
at the moment the OTA to 1.57.111.2 is running
some german forums wrote that any 1.12.xxx recovery will work for the ota. let's see if there is another ota after this one.

Hello, I've been a long time xda lurker (Never thought I could really add much anyhow) since I had my Dell Streak and I think for the first time since I got my M8 I need a bit of help.
They rolled out the lollypop OTA update here in Ireland and figured It was time to update to a stock ROM from here or a slightly improved one but ever since then I have lost my WiFi completely.
Sorry If this makes no seance- at all I'm a little burnt out trying to solve this on my own but even going back to 4.4.3 ROMs I still have no WiFi at all and any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
This is all the info I took from fastboot and the bootloader I thought would be needed

First - remove the serial no. & imei no. as those are sensitive info.
The details that you have does not show that you did OTA. You are still two versions behind.
Restore your stock ROM, flash a matching stock recovery (no custom recovery) then do OTA ... multiple OTAs up to the latest 4.16.410.10
If you're willing to set the phone up from scratch you can just update straight to Lollipop using the RUU available on here. If you want to go that route then you can following this guide I wrote:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735235
Basically, step 3 covers what you need to do as step 1 and 2 are already done and at least once that's done if you still have issues you know it's not the software on the phone

No luck, kept getting error 99 with the 'htc_fastboot" from the thread and with my normal fastboot it gives me the error 32 'header error' I only noticed the thread was for s-off phones, I don't care about my phone saying tampered, unlocked or anything but I'm assuming that's stopping the flash from happening.

Hello,
I want to buy a second hand HTC M8 and it has a issue with wi-fi.. it won't turn on or connect to wi-fi. from the screen shots i see that it has network (3g network). the guy selling the m8 says that a friend of his tried to put a custom rom on the phone and after that the wifi stopped working. here are the printscreens send by him. could you tell me if i can repair it myself or it is the wi-fi chip damaged.
Wifi doesn't work because the ROM is 4.4.4 but device is still 4.4.2
(can see this from the baseband version)
You can easily fix this by put in correct ROM version
can it be done without s-off? with a ruu.exe?

You better remove the 3rd pic where it shows the IMEI no. & Serial No. Those are sensitive data.
Anyway ... checked your IMEI, it is a EU version, so there is a RUU available which you can directly update it to the latest Lollipop version 4.16.401.10
thanks. will remove those pictures. i will but it tonight.
Is it for a good price due to WiFi not working? If so, the devil on my right shoulder says it serves them right for modding the phone without doing the proper research! Or researching properly to (easily) fix the problem, for that matter.

Help me to get it stock please !!
Remove serial no. in your post
I'll write simple guide on how to get back on stock and update to the latest lollipop when I'm home in next 3 - 4 hrs (if no one attend to this yet)
i see that the phone has Vodap001 CID but the soft on it (rooted one) is for the HTC_00x CID.. problem? i have got a stock backup, unzipped it, putted in TWRP backup folder, now i restore it and after that flash the stock recovery?? is that all?
It's a Vodafone UK M8, but still easy restored to stock
To be honest, I'd get it back to 1.54.161.x using the backups @ckpv5 will post, S-OFF with Sunshine and then convert it to the unbranded handset using the 4.16.401.10 RUU (using the guide in my signature)
skirmish please .. one m7 i could do it with no problem but this guy kills me
Can't write proper guide as I'm driving....
Follow this guide : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59034701&postcount=4
But don't use that 3.29.161.9, you need to restore 1.54.161.10 and its recovery then proceed multiple OTA up to lollipop 4.19.161.2
You can get the needed files here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58606328&postcount=4278
Note : if you have plan to S-Off your device, do it after restore 1.54.161.10
if you want to keep it S-On, just proceed OTA. Later you can install any custom lollipop ROM if you want to

you could follow my guide on the viperone thread , steps 1 to 6 would get you onto stock android lollipop with a stock recovery , just do a full setup at step 6 , my guide proceeds past this point to then install a custom recovery and a custom rom but if you stop at step 6 after setting up the phone you will be unbranded stock
hope this helps

Hi Guys so Im rooted running Android Revoluton HD ROMs on an international O2 phone S-on
I thought I would wipe the entire phone, bleach it like a PC and reinstall.
Not a problem except various elements dont work.
I installed Stock ROM (I think KitKat)
I installed ARHD 22. (Kit Kat) everything worked
I installed ARHD 34.(Jellybean Sense 6) no wifi
I installed ARDH 40.(Jellybean Sense 7) no HTC TV
I installed ARHD 41.(Jellybean Sense7) no images in Blinkfeed?
I know its probably because I wiped the misc folder but up until I did a clean wipe I could use all of these roms without a glitch.
So is it firmware?
What do I need to put back on my phone for them all to work
I am S-on at the moment and I know that isnt whats stopping these roms working.
Any suggestions?

It's firmware. You most probably have kitkat firmware and lolipop based roms will mess up your wifi and stuff. Take an ota or stay on kitkat.

If you are S-ON don't flash firmware. Just don't. You can flash rom zips, recoveries, kernels. You can write on these partitions with s-on: recovery, boot, system and data.
I've just used Sunshine to get S-off, what a joy to use!
So now I can just flash them right?
I've got my cid number matched it up with the ota and bingo?
Right?

well im come from HTC One M7, and as long as the M8 is pretty much the same, you dont need s-off to flash the same firmware which your already on, or the next one step up, after all, this is exactly what an OTA does for you.
However, now your s-off anyway, you canflash any RUU or firmware you like, just make sure cid and mid match first. :good:
EDIT: there ia also no need to lock or re-lock the bootloader to flash anything now that your S-off, leave it unlocked all the time for everything, its a common problem on the M7 forums at the moment, people who are s-off or even s-on, locking bootloaders with custom rom's or recovery's on thier phones.
Thanks, so with the ota there are two for O2 my cid is O2___001 am I right that I can take the 001 OR the 002?

in all honesty, I would of thought the CID 001 and 002 were in the same ota, have you checked the android-info.txt file within the OTA itself, its just a zip file.
possible to post your fastboot getvar all without imei and serial number please, also a link to the OTA's your downloading would be good.

personnaly, if your just trying to get to Lollipop, I would change my CID to HTC__001 (thats 2 underscores, CID is always 8 digits)
Change MID if required.
and then flash the WWE International Lollipop full RUU, piece of cake. http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/general/htc-one-m8-european-signed-ruu-0p6bimg-t2911563

Flashing an OTA manually is a different kettle of fish, its just an OTA not a full RUU, and you would still have to be full stock in order for it to succeed.
however, if you just require the firmware in order to use a custom LP rom, then just pull the firmware.zip out of the OTA and flash it.
you would then have to put a custom recovery back on your phone, copy a rom to your sdcard, and flash it from within TWRP recovery.
And im trying to flash O2 OTA

you already have the latest firmware on your phone !!!
I installed ARHD 41.( Sense7) no images in Blinkfeed? ------ pulled from your first post, this is a common problem, if you mean its face ache, there is a fix for it on playstore.
OK is tere an RUU for O2 uk?
So im extracting the firmware at the mo, then I will flash it then I will try and install ARHD 41....
Im right that the O2___002 is an upgraded version of the 001 and its what I need right?
Otherwise im just replacing like for like.

nope O2___002 is a different cid, you need to use the 001 files, however, its the same as you already have on your phone.
CID is just carrier ID, so O2___001 will be something like O2 UK and 002 might be something like O2 france, no difference in files, just different regions.

Make sure of a couple of things when flashing a custom ROM, check for problems other are having with it, by reading some of the later posts is what I always do, just a few pages, also and this is a must, read the OP's flashing instructions, so many people bypass this step, the most important step is to make sure your using the dev's recommended custom recovery for flashing.
I always full wipe before flashing anything, so in TWRP first factory reset, and then goto wipe - advanced - select everything except your internal storage and SDcard, and then always reboot back into recovery after the wipes before flashing the rom, it will nag you and say you have no OS installed, ignore it and Do Not Intall to SuperSU, the custom rom flash will do that for you.
During the rom installation, again I always select full wipe when given the option, you then know you have a clean slate to build the rom on.

So if its the same and ive got a problem its not the firmware right?
Or is it just an update.
I will tell you this is really easy but telling people how to do it is confusing

Your firmware is already current, and should work with latest ARHD. Blinkfeed not showing image is a known issue reported by others.
No need to mess with RUUs or firmware zips.
So I got all greedy and wanted Lollipop sooner than when my provider did an OTA.
I tried a bunch of roms and found that Cyanogen was able to work for my phone (a lot of others gave me that issue where the Wifi wouldn't work, I subsequently worked out this was a firmware issue).
In an effort to try and fix a number of bugs I've been attempting to get S-Off. I downloaded Sunshine but Sunshine told me my ROM wasn't close enough to stock for it. So I put another Rom on it, but then mysteriously I lost root access.
So I did a hard wipe.
And now I find myself unable to install any ROMs on it at all (I'm trying to find a stock Kitkat one that will hopefully run).
So I can't get S-Off. I'm not even sure if it's still rooted (though I do have Philz installed and that loads when I put it into recovery mode). And so I'm not even remotely sure what I should do.
Yay!
Bricked mine too!

I just joined this forum, so I don't know if I should be posting here or on a new thread, so let me know I can delete this, move it if I'm out of line.
I'm in the same boat. Just softbricked my girlfriend's Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900a)
Her phone was unlocked AT&T and it auto updated to 5.0 Lollipop update OTA about a week ago.
It's been running like **** so I thought I'd downgrade it to 4.2.2 via ODIN
ODIN (failed) trying to install
G900AUCU1ANCE_G900AATT1ANCE_G900AUCU1ANCE_HOME.tar.gz
I read in one of these forums that downgrading wouldn't work but they found a work around
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785363
Oh yeah and then my phone bricked so there is that, my GF is being really understanding but I'm hoping I can recover this!!!!
Edit: My problem was resolved here

your mistake is using CWM recovery, Sense custom roms require TWRP recovery, so you need to start by flashing the latest version of that.
once flashed, go in and do a full wipe. dont forget after wiping to reboot back into recovery for the changes to take effect, when you go to reboot it will say something like you have no OS installed, are you sure you want to reboot, just say yes, and select DO NOT INSTALL to SuperSU, the rom you falsh will be pre rooted.
TWRP latest version supports MTP, so when your in recovery main window, plug your phone into the computer and your sdcard and internal storage will open on your computer, just copy a rom to your sdcard, once copied, unplug your phone and install it.
use something like ARHD 41 or Maximus HD, they are close enough to stock for sunshine to work.
have a look here for a rom, dont download anything too modded or fancy as you'll be coming away from stock then http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/development

on a slightly different note, you dont need s-off to flash a firmware or RUU depending on your current firmware, can you post your fastboot getvar all without your imei and serial number please.

your going to need s-off and convert your phone im sorry, doesnt seem to be anything about for your phone, firmware or RUU's.
You'll need to convert to get the latest firmware on your phone, unless you have it via an OTA or something like that ? convert to WWE 401 or Dev Edition 1540, currently your on 980 Austraillia Unbranded.
once you get s-off, convert is easy, all you need to do is change your CID number with a fastboot command, change your MID number, flash the firmware for Dev Ed or WWE, and then run the RUU.

I've got a sneaking suspicion that the ARHD and Maximus ROMS I'm finding won't mesh with the firmware I've got. I think.

they should still install and run, your may have a few problems like wifi, but it should effect them installing and booting, try this one insted, its stock for your firmware version, https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934516545
You just need to make sure you flash with TWRP not CWM. http://dl.twrp.me/m8/

use this rom instead: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934516545 its full stock rom, flash in TWRP still, and closest matching to your firmware, its KitKat not Lollipop.

Just keeping you updated, finished dowloading the above rom, flashed it and it seems to be working (mind you, my wifi still ain't working with that ROM, but I can live with that). Sunshine is now S-Off-ing as we speak so this is as much progress as I've made in 2 days!!
What should my next step be after getting S-Off?

easiest thing for you to do is change your cid first, change it to WWE HTC__001 the command is fastboot oem write cid HTC__001 (thats 2 underscores, CID number is always 8 characters long)
so with your phone in the bootloader fastboot usb mode and plugged into the computer, run these3 commands
fastboot oem write cid HTC__001
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
next is to change you mid, so enter recovery and put this file on your SDcard http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2779524
install it like you would with a rom, and follow the instructions on screen, when given the options to select mid to change to, select the one for WWE international.
when you have finished those 2 things, post your fastboot getvar all again please, should be a new and updated one, again without imei and serial number

I never bother with superCID, always seems to cause me more headaches than good.
the 2 best cid's to go for in my books are HTC__001 WWE (world wide engish) or BS_US001 Dev edition, they get the fastest updates.

See this guiy here did the same thing, but he is complaining that he's not got the next update yet, it because he hasnt changed his cid number, he needs to be on HTC__001, everytrhing else is done right, this is from the Australlian thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60272806&postcount=662

sorry for late response, I tried the lollipop RUU too
1. with fastboot, it says :02 remote fie is too large
2. via sd card...finding package..opening package....unable to map file
And here is the story of bootloop. my phone was working fine till I received the official lollipop update, which failed repeatedly during installation. I checked the recovery log and found some error in system/bin/flash_camera and decided to flash just recovery image. I flashed recovery and boot image from the ota update I received...but got stuck. then I started trying all these RUU stuff but still no clue. thanks for listening
Ah, okay.
Can you select recovery in hboot and does it start up normally? Have you tried a Kit Kat nandroid backup with twrp?
Ps: you need to delete your imeis in the first post..

yes once stuck on white screen with htc, I need to hold vol up+ power to turn it off and before it reboots automatically I open hboot by vol down+ power. from there I can continue in recovery mode and fastboot etc. no I haven't tried nandroid backup with twrp. I want to get stock rom so that I am able to get updates in future. plus I read twrp backup roms are havng problems like wifi and all.
That sounds like your bootsector is damaged, so usb debugging is disabled.
Did you back up your old recovery.img? The kit kat one before the update?
The easiest way, if you're able to flash a custom recovery, is a clean nandroid backup without root using twrp and once your device is booting again, start from scratch.
Enable usb debugging, unlock bootloader, flash stock recovery, relock bootloader and flash RUU.
