You are awesome.
yeah, it would be possible to attach any USB device (like on your pc) to the Phone (USB Flash Drive, Keyboard, Mouse, ......... )
cables
I could only find cables in china has anyone seen any for sale in the uk ?
you can make the micro USB to USB 'A' cable with a few bits and a soldering iron or some electrical tape. They seem to be scarce over here so thats what i plan on doing.
i have a "female - female" USB Cable here. if i plug this in my normal micro USB-Cable will this work?
Desire -> Micro-USB-Cable -> Female - Female-USB-Cable -> USB-Keyboard
I ordered from the ebay guy he adivised on his site
@kingchris
Nah this wont work. The reason he uses the powered hub and the special power cable is because the phone itself doesnt give out 5v like a normal USB port so devices are having to steal it from elsewhere.
So with your keyboard setup, the data lines will be connected but it will have no power.
so a normal Micro-USB cable to a USB-HUB and then to the keyboard?

Dont know if you even need the hub. Its the special dual ended power cable you need. Just need some way to pump 5v down towards the keyboard. *i think*
http://www.span.com/product_info.php?products_id=22810
Here a link to a company selling the power cable. Based in Surrey.
i think it will work if you don't plugin as much devices as the guy in the video.
you can use one of these to convert your existing Charging Cable to a Female Port
Amazon.de
or
Amazon.co.uk
Edit: kay, not sure if the gender changer is all you need
Hi,
I've been wanting to hook up my desire hd to usb hosting and have not been able to find a cable for it.
I was wondering would it be ok if i connected a micro usb (male) to usb b (printer version) (female) adapter
to a,
standard printer cable with usb female at the end?
This would result in one end being a micro usb male and the other end a female usb
I look forward to your answers
Thanks alot for reading
That probably wont work.
I in fact saw an article yesterday, but can't recall the link. (Will look now).
IIRC, you need to modify the USB cable somewhat to get the DHD's USB port to detect an OTG connection.
Edit:
Here we go: http://gigaom.com/mobile/how-to-add-a-usb-keyboard-to-an-android-phone/
I think if the software supports usb host mode, with a 'micro usb type a' to 'usb type b' cable you can connect to a usb device. That is if the DHD is equiped with 'micro usb type ab' receptacle.
oh wow, ok thanks ever so much!!,
however, i just need to confirm what three cables you need so i can go out and buy them, i need:
Car charging cable (which one is this?)
Micro-usb cable (is this with the microusb male on one end and a standard usb male on the other end?)
USB extender cable (is this with one usb male and usb female on the other end?)
thanks

I have no idea really, but if you are successful, let us know
I'm just having trouble understanding what cables are needed.
On the website you gave me, it says i need:
a car charging cable, a micro USB cable and a USB extender cable.
Is this effectively two micro usb cables and a USB extender cable?
or does one HAVE to come from a car charging kit?
please help!!
thanks

Nice find! I did see the mini one only
Gonna order and try it out. No great financial loss if it does not work.
Obviously we will need a USB Host module for the kernel if not already present. Will check tonite.
i've finally made my host cable!!!
i now need micro-usb dongle host module. Is this where you have to get hold of a car charger and get the end of it and unsolder bits?
The USB Host module is software. It is loaded by the Linux kernel.
ok well i need to get that too.
Also, whats the bit with the car charging cable? what that for?
I'd be really interested in this as well. Would be awesome if i could just connect a usb drive or my camera to my phone to copy data.
So does anyone know if a host driver is available for the desire hd.
I really have no idea how it would work, but it should, as loads of tablets are able to use 3G-Sticks to connect.
Today I recieve my USB Host adapter cable for the DHD.
When I plug it into the DHD and connect a USB Hub the car panle ("Auto Bedienfeld") starts.
Connecting a USB Keyboard to the USB Hub doesn't show any impact. But this is what I have expected. Next I try to integrate the patch from sonic74 to a kernel for the DHD.
http://sven.killig.de/android/N1/2.2/usb_host/
At the moment I use Android Revolution HD 2.0.9
Any progress?
I really like the USB host future on my Desire HD,
I want to connect my USB Drive to my DHD if this is possible? So i have 16GB More storage if needed ;D
I've ordered the converter thing from dealextreme, someone that could make a flashable zip to enable usb host functions?
Was also quite interested on this.
My wish is to connect my dSLR to the phone, and move all jpgs/nefs from there to a internal card. Or copy, and use the device for better visualisation.
As the camera has its internal battery, power shouldn't be a issue. It would be awesome
I am still working on this.
At the moment it is working for a short time, but then there a same errores.
This meens it should be possible, but same more research must be done.
My Kernel is based on the BUZZ 1.3.7 Kernel, and following patches:

Quick Q: What did you connect? Or you didn't connect anything ?
Just ordered two of those adapters. They convert Micro USB 2.0 to USB 3.1.
Best price is 1.28!
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/USB-...-0-5-Pin-Female-Data-Adapter/32431393932.html
Let me know if it works for you. I ordered http://aliexpress.com/item/2015-New...onverter-Adapter-For-Macbook/32390876259.html some time ago and the connector won't even fit into my OP2..
weird.. They look the same to me. I will definitely give a feedback!
I ordered this one...
http://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/6845583073.html
Still not received atm.
EDIT : fits perfectly, work with charger but not with OTG cable...
i have ordered a few off ebay. hopefully they will arrive in the morning. its good that they do these things as i have heard some people saying the cable that comes with the 1+2 wont connect to some laptops. for myself i have not had that issue but i want some backups for safe keeping.
I bought 5 from eBay for $2 ea. They work fine and I have tried them on a lot of different cables and charges both cheap and quality ones.
Good to know that most of them do work. I noticed that the OPT cable is slightly wider than some usb slots. That might be the reason why is not fitting into some laptops.
Find the UK equivalent here, http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/301706225746
ordered 2 will see how these perform and give feedback.
I have 3 of these. They work fine for charging. But NOT with my SanDisk 64GB OTG Flash Drive With micro USB connector.
Tomorrow I will get this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B010HWCFDA?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00
Hope it works with my OP2
I think those adapters are only for charging and not for data transfer :/
Ok. So I got it today but unfortunately, my OP2 does not recognizes the device. I've checked "OTG storage"
in Settings>Storage, tried to reboot.. NOTHING. Not working!! Shame on you Kingston..

I tried to format in Windows and Mac to every format possible, including Fat 32 but NO!! Not recognized...
Yeah I am in the same boat. I bought a OTG cable and it won't recognise any usb drives. I did read somewhere that there has been some issues with OTG on OxygenOS.

Maybe your flash drive draws too much power from the phone? I assume this product was meant to be used with a Macbook Air rather than a phone with USB Type C, but I could be wrong.

As said before, some of these USB Type C adapters might not be suited for data transfer. Have you checked that?
They work alright with data transfer connected to a PC. I will buy a USB 3.1 Type C OTG Cable proper and see how it goes.
It does work just fine with my imac, under OSx and Windows.. But not with my OP2...
OTG does work fine for a friend of mine with a similar Sandisk flash drive and adapter. Pic included.

I think I saw an unpacking video and the OTG adapter was included in the box.
just whacked a mouse into the adapter in the box. works fine.
Also tried with a mem stick, and works fine

I think it was intended to facilitate moving files from an older phone. Mine is due to arrive any moment. I think we will all have some real answers soon.
Except most old phones do not have USB-C

You plug the USB C end into the Pixel and then use another cable to connect an older phone (presumably one you're already using with the older phone). Micro USB/Lightning into the older phone, USB into the adapter. The adapter can also be utilized for OTG - USB C into the Pixel, flash drive/other USB device into the USB port.

Also to use OTG. Plug that in, and you can hook up a keyboard, mouse, removable drive, someone elses phone, whatever.
Could someone clarify. I plugged the adapter in how I was directed by a thread at the "pixel community". The thread referenced a way to use the adapter to transfer files however I plugged it in set the settings to xfer files and nothing. Does the adapter go into the pixel or the (in my case) Note 7? The thread listed a way to make these transfers upon start up but I'm way past start up. I need to transfer a couple apps and a big phone log and a truck load of texts. Any help out there?
Hi, may i know if there is USB OTG support for Note 10+? I cannot use OTG on my device, is it hardware problem? or software problem?

This thread prompted me to check the OTG for myself, I have USB 3.0 dongle that I haven't used for a while - all is good, it works.
This dongle doesn't require additional, supporting apps, I just plugged it in and it showed as a drive right on.
I dont't know if it qualifies an OTG device, but I used my Flir cam with the Note 10+ and it works. Since it is a micro usb connection, I had to get a micro to USB C adapter and it specifically requires an OTG rated or compatible connector. The regular micro usb to USB C adapters don't work.

It does work, every combination I tried. Not a necessity to even have a designated OTG dongle:

For a Flir One? I was specifically talking about attaching a Flir. It is a specific requirement to make it connect to a USB C device.
For data transfer, charging, or other connections, I can use any micro usb to C adapter.

No, not specifically. I was referring to OP question in general terms. Sorry if I misled you.
i tried plugging in my USB OTG pendrive, there is no notification that it detects the drive. could it be a regional firmware problem?

Shouldn't make any difference, it's OS ability to do these things. In my case I just plug it into USB and it shows in "My files" app.
How is your pendrive formatted, is it FAT32? My microSD drives for Android are all formatted as FAT32 I even found a way to format 64 and 126GB to FAT32. Can't use it for full movies though. If you have another microSD around try to format it as FAT32 and see if that works.
Also, see if it helps when you change the default settings for connected USB devices.
