So, I have the omnifarious's 4.3 ROM(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2532714) installed on my phone. I did not update the bootloader or baseband. The baseband is still showing MDL.
I see data drops sometimes. So, I wanted to try to upgrade the GSM modem to MK2 to see if the data drop issue goes away while staying at MDL bootloader.
When I run ODIN in download mode and just try to flash the radio from this post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2544612) it fails. Even doing the modem.bin alone fails.
Do I need to flash back to stock 4.2.2 to be able to update my radio?

If you want to flash back to 4.2.2 stock you can do it no problem, since your phone already has the
4.2.2 MDL modem/radio in it because you have not yet updated to the MK2 modem.bin image.
You don't need to flash back to stock to flash MK2 4.3 modem, you can flash it on 4.2.2 stock.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All you need to do is to Odin flash the MK2 MODEM.BIN to get the 4.3 MK2 baseband.
Here is the direct download link for the modem.bin file:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/1gsjokadys4l89x/modem.bin
Flash it in Odin's PHONE slot. (not pda).
Good luck!
That's what I was trying to do. I tried to flash modem.bin from Odin and it failed.
re: modem.bin
Try this MK2 modem.bin, a lot of people used this already including myself and it worked!
http://download1276.mediafire.com/db...l89x/modem.bin
Flash using Odin's PHONE slot. (NOT PDA)
Flashing guide:
Do not connect the usb cable until step #3
1: Open Odin and put this MODEM.BIN file into Odin's PHONE slot & un-check "auto reboot"
2: Power off the phone manually (power button only)
3: Restart the phone in download mode (power+vol-down)
4: Connect USB cable from phone to computer
5: Make sure that Odin's [COM:xx] lights up
6: Click START in Odin
7: When done unplug the usb cable
8: Power off the phone manually using power button only.
9: Wait 20 seconds or so before powering up the phone.
If you followed these step by step instructions you should
see MK2 in "About Phone" (Settings>More>About phone)
It does not matter which version of ODIN you are using, all ODIN versions work fine.
Good luck!

I have done these steps to the T like 5 times and it still fails.... I have no idea what else to try.
Quick question: What does the "Write protection: enable" mean in the download mode on the left top corner of the screen? Does it show that for you too? I see both status fields as "custom". What does that mean? I think something is not allowing me to overwrite the radio in this phone.

You need to be very specific about the problem you are experiencing.
Exactly what model is your phone, Tmobile T999 or AT&T I747 ?
Also do you want to flash the stock rom for your phone or do you
want to flash the stock-rooted rom?
The Verizon rom did not just happen to appear in your phone, you or someone
else must have flashed it for reasons which are beyond my comprehension.
Good luck!

If you want a stock rom click here: UVDLJA this is the un-rooted T999 Galaxy S3 4.1.1 Jellybean firmware.
This is the same rom which came with your T999 Galaxy S3 it needs to be flashed using ODIN.
You need to unzip the file in order to get the TAR file inside before flashing.
After flashing it might take up to 5-10 minutes to fully boot.
Good luck!

No, if you odin flash any rom it will over write the modem.
If your phone is a T999 (not t999v) then do this and the phone will work properly:
This will over write your modem with the proper one for a T999 phone and this will
flash the stock rooted T999 4.1.2 Jellybean rom.
Follow the instructions below.
Here is the step by step guide:
After you have followed these instructions your phone will have the new T999 4.1.2 jellybean pre-rooted firmware.
Download the stock-rooted Odin flash T999_UVDMD5 Samsung Galaxy S3 Jellybean v4.1.2 firmware.
After downloading make a folder on your computer's desktop and unzip the
file using Winzip or 7zip so the .TAR file is in the new folder you just made.
Download and extract Odin into the same folder you made containing the TAR file
Here is the link for Odin: http://d-h.st/Q14
Download ODIN which is required for flashing the stock rooted firmware (a windows app)
Download the Odin Flash firmware for T999 Tmobile then copy it to the same folder as Odin
Run Odin by double clicking the Odin.exe within the same folder as the TAR file you extracted
Turn off your phone and boot into DOWNLOAD MODE (Volume Down + Home + Power Hold until phone powers up, then release and press Volume Up to enter Download Mode)
Once in Download Mode, connect the USB/Charger cable to the phone and plug into the USB port on your computer.
You should now see a COM** port listed toward the top-left of Odin (under ID:COM)
Click on the PDA button in the middle-right area of Odin.
Browse to and select the Firmware you downloaded (TAR file)
Make sure Auto-Reboot and F. Reset Time are the only options checked and that PDA is the only other thing checked.
TRIPLE CHECK your settings and that you have selected the correct firmware for your model phone and are using the correct options.
If you are using a laptop, make absolutely sure you are plugged in, or if on battery, that it is charged enough and will not go into sleep mode during flash.
Click Start to begin the flash. This will take a while, so be patient!
Once complete, in the top-left box in Odin, it will say PASS and the phone should have automatically rebooted.
You may unplug the phone and close Odin if you wish.
Wait at least 5-10 minutes for the system to boot the first time and then build its cache!
(It may seem to hang during boot, this is normal and you must be patient!!!)
But the Chinese models usually come with write protection
Hey guys. Have flashed many of a rom before on many phones i have owned. When it comes to the radio i know there are chances of this going VERY wrong. My question is which modem should i be using?
Phone = T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4 (SGH-M919)
Rom = Wicked V9.1 (which i believe wants a MK2)
Baseband version = M919UVUAMDL
Android Version 4.3
If there are any other details i left out please ask and i will reply asap. Why i am wanting to update to the newer baseband is once flashing to 4.3 i have gotten TERRIBLE signal within my home (before it was perfect). After every call i make, once ended it will drop the cell signal and shortly after pick it back up. Mainly the reason i want to update is to get signal back in my home. For the most part i have zero signal in the most common areas i am in. Thanks again!
This worked for me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2544612

NOTICE: If you are running/using any AOSP/AOKP/CM/GE/KitKat or any PORTED roms
or if your phone is NOT an M919 Tmobile then the following does NOT apply to you.!!!
Have you tried this:
You can Odin flash the MK2 modem.bin while on any Jellybean Touchwiz 4.2.2 based rom
or ODIN flash it after flashing the Infamous v9, Wicked v9.1, or any M919 MK2 JB based
Touchwiz 4.3 roms. Either way it makes no difference.
What does make a difference is to follow this step by step exactly.
#1: Manually power down the phone by using the power button only.
#2: Start ODIN and put the MODEM.BIN file into ODIN'S PHONE slot.
#3: Put the phone into download mode using the volume down and power button.
#4: Plug the USB cable into the phone and into the computer.
#5: Make sure that ODIN'S [COM:xx] lights up.
#6: Un-Check the Auto-Reboot in ODIN and click START.
#7: After its done flashing unplug the usb cable.
#8: Manually power off the phone by using the power button only.
#9: Wait 20 or so seconds before you power on the phone.
After doing this the MK2 baseband should show up in About Device.
Once it displays MK2 you can flash any MK2 JB TW 4.3 custom cwm/twrp
zip file roms unless you have already flashed it before flashing the modem.bin
in which case you are done and ready to use the phone.
Here is the direct download link for the Tmobile 4.3 M919 MK2 modem.bin:

I got it to work. I must of had a MDL modem before not the MK2. I am running a kk ROM and it worked just fine by taking the modem.bin from the rar file.
Thanks everyone.

Download the MK2 Modem.bin if you don't already have it.
Here is the direct download link for it: http://www.mediafire.com/download/1g...l89x/modem.bin
Here are the exact step by step instructions for doing that, doing it this way worked fine for me.
Before flashing anything be sure to make a nandroid backup of your rom.
You can Odin flash the MK2 modem while on the 4.2.2 rom or flash it
after flashing Wicked v9.1 MK2 rom the procedure is exactly the same.
Before starting, unplug the usb cable from your phone if it's plugged in
and remove the battery from the phone for 30 seconds then replace.
#1: Power up the phone.
#2: Start ODIN and put the MODEM.BIN file into ODIN'S PHONE slot/tab.
#3: Un-Check the "Auto-Reboot" check box in ODIN.
#4: Put the phone into download mode
#5: Plug the USB cable into the phone and into the computer.
#6: Make sure that ODIN'S [COM:xx] lights up and click START..
#7: After Odin is done flashing unplug the usb cable.
#8: Manually power off the phone by using the power button only.
#9: Wait 20 seconds or so and power on the phone.
After flashing is done the baseband of the phone should display MK2 in
Settings>More>About Device> Baseband version.
Good luck with it!

Yeah, it can take a while if it is your first time flashing a modem. Glad you have it working, enjoy your ROM!
just so I don't have to create a new thread and my question is somewhat related.
If I move up to 4.3 with root (not bootloader) and decide I want to come back to 4.2, will I have to flash the 4.2 (mdl) LTE modem or can the 4.3 (mk2) LTE modem work fine?

Like the bars show up and everything but they just fail to send and I don't receive any phone calls either. I was wondering if anyone had a solution to this and I already factory reset my phone and upgraded again, but it really didn't seem to work and I got a new sim card as well.
I'd Odin to stock.

How did you do the upgrade, OTA, Kies or did you simply use cwm/twrp to flash a zip file custom rom?
If all you did was flash a cwm/twrp 4.3 zip file custom rom then follow these step by step instructions
below to fix your signal/data & reception issues by flashing the 4.3 MK2 stock modem.bin file in Odin.
Please NOTE: the following procedure is NOT valid for AOSP/AOKP/KitKat/CM roms.
The following instructions are exclusively for those people who are using the
Tmobile M919 stock based Jellybean 4.2.2 or 4.3 Touchwiz custom roms.
Follow the easy step by step instructions to a "T".

#8: Manually power off the phone by using the power button only.

You don't need kies at all. If you do use kies, ota or odin flash stock official firmware you will
catch the knox pox unless you stay stock & official and don't flash any kernels or custom roms.
Once you do the full official odin flash/ota/kies update you will NOT be able to downgrade.
If you don't want to catch the Knox pox, then download the Wicked v10 4.3 MK2 custom rom,
you will not find a better rom to flash here on xda.
After you flash the Wicked rom you should download/flash the MODEM.BIN file so your
baseband will be MK2 to match the rom. The MK2 baseband has a better radio.
Use this MK2 modem.bin, a lot of people used this already including myself and it worked fine.
http://download1276.mediafire.com/db...l89x/modem.bin
If you don't care about Knox and the possibility of voiding your warranty then simply go and
download the stock official M919 Tmobile Jellybean 4.3 MK2 firmware from SamMobile.com.
After odin flashing the stock official firmware you will be able to root it using cf-autoroot and
you will be able to flash cwm/twrp custom recovery and any custom roms, however if you do
you will get the Knox pox which has no effect on performance or features in the rom it only
effects the the possibility of voiding your warranty if you have one.
Doing the following will NOT effect the warranty status, and you will not catch the Knox pox,
it will only update your baseband to MK2 which works fine with either 4.2.2 or 4.3 roms.
Flash using Odin's PHONE slot. (NOT PDA)
Flashing guide:
Do not connect the usb cable until step #4
1: Open Odin and put this MODEM.BIN file into Odin's PHONE slot & un-check "auto reboot"
2: Power off the phone manually (power button only - don't use the four way power menu)
3: Restart the phone in download mode (power+vol-down only)
4: Connect USB cable from phone to computer
5: Make sure that Odin's [COM:xx] lights up
6: Click START in Odin
7: When done unplug the usb cable
8: Power off the phone manually using power button only.
9: Wait 20 seconds or so before powering up the phone.
If you followed these step by step instructions you should
see MK2 baseband in "About Phone" (Settings>More>About phone)
(It does not matter which version of ODIN you are using, all ODIN versions work fine.)
Good luck!
