Ive got the at&t 1317 4.3 done by OTA -- searched and searched -- couldn't find the latest root method for the 4.3 MK6. Can someone link me to the most current method for rooting this version with 4.3 mk6 software?

Otherwise, search first link for your phone.
After install, go to play store, update super su then run it. Update binary if asked using normal method. When asked if you want to disable Knox answer yes.
That's it.

Thank you for the links -- one more question -- how about installing a recovery for flashing roms ?
Philz cwm or twrp - both can be found on the first page of the att note 2 original Dev forum. Or you can follow my sig to the i317 links.... My mk6 thread has links to the OPs of both.

Thanks for all the responses -- ive continued to read other threads and im 50/50 on wanting to root this phone seeing that its a chance it will work or not. if I get a successful root if I so decide to undo root that its a long complex process and not sure I would be able to do it.
Im only a month into my contract and seeing as to root is kinda easy but to achieve unroot is a long complex many step process and it still does not reset this KNOX counter incase for whatever reason I need to have warranty done , I am now very hesitant to root.

Hello guys
Im new to Samsung, bought my phone a month ago and love it to be honest. The problem is dont know most of things on android and samsung. been looking at the forum hours and hours and learnt most of it from you.
I want to know if rooting is any good? why would you root your device or why wouldnt you? advantages and disadvantages?
Is it easy to do it? (as Im new dont wanna brick my phone) I have seen that if you root your phone your warranty will be avoid. If you unroot will it be still avoided?
Hope my questions are clear.
Hi and welxome to xda. Rooting basically gives you full rights over your phone and breaks most barriers put in place. Hands down the best thing about rooting your phone is that it gives you the ability to install a custom rom which improves on the current rom (the systen you are interacting with)
It is really easy to root a note2, i suggest you read the stickys-they have a guide for it.
Lastly the only downside is that you can brick ur phone if anything is DONE without reading the instructions. Or flashing something that is not in a N7100 forum.
And it voids warantee, but there is a workaround (traingleaway, search it )
Hope i answered your question

Thanks for you response mate. Whats the quickest and easiest and safest root ? Like iphone jailbreaks are so easy all you need to do is plug your phone in and press the jailbreak button and after 2 3 minutes all done. Is there any program or software like that?
I suggest you before rooting do a bit of research on why you need to root rather than root it "because you can" as you read rooting has it drawbacks specially for noobs.
If you can live without some specific feature only available through rooting, don't root avoid a headache.

Haven't rooted yet. Found many instructions for the easy cf-auto-root but not much on unrooting, which may be needed for OTA updates or warranty checks.
Anyways you may wanna look into rooting after finding some uses for it. Otherwise it may be an unnecessary risk. There is a lot of customisation and functionality available using the stock rom and market apps alone.

you can unroot (rooted with cf autoroot) by supeSU (you will get it by rooting)setting menu
OR
by simply flashing stock ROM with odin will unroot device
(In both case you should have to reset counter while you are having root, to claim warranty)

Does unrooting using superSU require restoring factory settings or anything? Or does it do it cleanly?
I want to be able to update through OTA.
Sent from my GT-N7100
factory reset won't need, cosmetically you won't see any rooting sign.
But regarding OTA, really its weired
you never can say surely, i have seen who have unrooted + factory reset, even they fails to install update (though even getting update)
so be prepare to flash using odin, if you don't get OTA.
You need to factory flash via Odin and then use triangle away to reset the flash counter that should allow you to update OTA.

In download mode it showed KNOX was tripped. 'Knox warranty void: 1" I ended up bricking it, which is all the same, I don't like KNOX bs anyway. I spun a good yarn to T-Mobile so I'll have another Note 2 tomorrow hopefully on something below 4.3 lol.

Did you try to downgrade ? Flashing it back to 4.3 worked for S3 phones.
I mean once you are on 4.3 you cannot flash back to an older version (4.1.x) easily. There must be a way via CWM or TWRP.
Some of us can use this information to NOT brick our phones.

So...I decided to take a chance and try to some things on my own, you know, show some initiative. I wont be doing that again and have gained even more respect for what you devs do. Here's the story. I tried to root the 4.3 using chainfires method, after being warned by psycho4us4 that it prolly wouldn't work. It did work, sort of... I had superuser and with root explorer was able to access system files. However, I could not alter or change any of the files. When I attempted to, the explorer would stop responding. It's also important to note I was never asked to grant SU permissions. That dialogue was replaced with the notification bar warning (apparently issued by KNOX) that an app was trying to access a restricted area of the device (lol) which I ignored. So now I have my Note II with SU and KNOX tripped showing warranty void 1 in the download mode So I'm thinking "Ok I'll flash back to MD1 with ODIN" Into download mode I go and start up ol ODIN I load the firmware and let it run. After going through the entire process it fails at the end. Now I have the Keis firmware failed screen....a brick.

I'm having trouble deciding which route I want to go. Don't know if I want to use the link with the Warranty Safe Root way(have already cooked the rom per it's directions) or if I want to go the cf-auto root way. I don't know anything about the vroot method. Any thoughts or insight would be appreciated.
I thought I'd be clever too and do a factory reset from the phone and it hung on the tmo boot screen, but I ended up downloading the stock 4.3 tar file and ODIN back to 4.3 and it works again.
The Chainfire root way is definitely not the way to go as it does not work.
Going to try the vroot way to see if I can get root back.
With vroot download supersu before starting them make sure as soon as the phone boots up after rooting open supersu update binary and let it delete the other manager.

There isn't one. All links were removed from xda because some suspicion of the program as a virus. If you followed the link I posted you would see that. Good thought but I don't think it's that simple.. It's well noted that there isn't a way to safely bypass or remove it yet If your method Was the case it would be all over the forum and probably one of the first things tried the day 4.3 ota was pushed .
Its built in the bootloader . I'm not sure what damage would cause if i try removing with a root explorer app.

Good morning,
I am no WIZ but it seems to me that all you would need to do is revert (flash) your NOTE 2 back to a stock, Predated to 4.1.1 OEM T-Mobile Rom.
However, since XDA is a creative lot, there is really no reason for me to presume that you still use T-Mobile as your carrier; not that it makes much difference at this point, So rather than being the horses ass as I sit here making my first post and since I am too new to be allowed to make life easy on you by merely laying down the link, go to Galaxynote2toroot under the heading of stock firmware. I think you will find your answers there. The site lists most all of the original or at least those firmwares you might use including those after 4.1 and prior to v 4.30. They have flashing tools as well...probably light-fingered from here (smiling) but in any case it seemed to be a simple method to get you where you want to go.
Sidebar: Personally, I am going to contribute to the cause supporting the old turned new GalaxyNOTE2 Toolkit v4.1.0. conjured up by mskip http://forum.xda-developers.com.php?=1957720 because I think it is and will continue to be a pretty swish tool to prevent me making the typical, wreck your Note2 rookie mistakes. And I secretly plan over time to make him a friend so he'll help me when I falter. It is a wonderment to me how complicated but pro tool accepting the little bastards be.
So, depending on your expertise in these matters, you might take a look as well, In any case I hope you get it fixed.
Best regards,
dm
I've read through all the relevant threads. I suspect I know the answer to this question, but I wanted to ask to make sure.
I picked up a new T-Mo Note 2 yesterday, was on 4.1. (without reading first) I did the OTA to 4.3.
I would like to keep the stock ROM but have root access.
I would like to have the option to install other ROMs, if needed.
I don't care about losing the data on the phone right now (it is new...)
I don't care about the warranty.
I don't need to unlock (right now) - but am going to Europe in a few months and will probably want to then.
I don't know if I need to care about Knox.

Yes. I think that's the easiest method to root without tripping the Knox Binary Counter. (But I wouldnt know because I'm still on 4.1.2 Rooted and Rom'd)
I think rooting via this method trips the counter. Anyone on Mr Robinsons rom please confirm if Knox counter has tripped ?

Thank you for the information. I know the answers lie in the threads here, and I've tried to sort it out. I just want to be clear.
Thanks.

If you do not care about warranty like you said then you can flash Mr Robinsons v2 rom as its pre-rooted and is Knox-free.

I used Mr. Robinson's
Pretty sure it trips the counter - I had already tripped it...
First of all, if you don't care about the warranty, then all that really matters is this...
It is a great rom for fixing problems you may encounter after rooting incorrectly and establishing a "fresh root". I use it whenever I go to a new rom now. It has never failed to make things go smoother. Just used it to upgrade to the new ezKAT rom. Now I have Note 3 and S5 features on my Note 2, and it works beautifully. But I had nothing but problems with the installation until I went to my old fail-safe of flashing Mr. Robinson first and then dirty-flashing ezKAT over it. Voila - perfection!:good:
I now consider Mr. Robinson's rom as basic as a screwdriver in my rooting tool box. And it's especially useful for noobs.
