this device has gorgeous 1080p display...with excellent quality.and because of its compactness it looks even better
..and the viewing angles are also good..only little brightness decreasness when we look from very criticle angle...
..:victory:  ..i didn't have any problem with display of this device ...
for me its the best screen , I dont care about angles, so so so much better than AMOLED. its awesome.

Hello,
I'm very interested in buying an unlocked ZL, but the only thing that has me thinking twice is the display. Almost every review I've read mentions that the ZL has terrible viewing angles, and the contrast isn't very good.
I'm coming from a Nexus 4, and the viewing angles on it are great. The contrast isn't the best, but I'm not expecting AMOLED black levels here.
So, I just thought I'd check in here and hopefully get a response or two from people who actually own the phone. It's either this or Oppo Find 5, but this one will have tons more support. Thanks in advance!

Why dont you try going through a few threads here? You'll have your answer.
Short answer: Viewing angles worse than N4 even though overall screen quality is much better. If you have a habit of looking at your phones obliquely, dont buy the ZL.
I just went to a Sony store to check it out in person, I really think the display is not bad at all. you should definitely go to the store to see it on person, I am planning to get it once it will be on sale this coming week.

my old one is sony lt29i first time compare to my lt29i
it looks not very bright not colorfully but after couple days
it looks not bad at all I don't know how to say it but for me
I can accept and very good device
I have had mine for 3 weeks and I think the screen is great. Viewing angles are not great, but in my daily use and in my personal opinion the screen looks great. I don't look at my screen from odd angles so it is never an issue for me. Webpages and YouTube videos look fantastic

I personally look the device at local Market, some of Bad issue with the screen is or May be we can say Bad-luck of Sony is that the Software UI Background Color is Grey & its not in Black color, it's the main reason the screen is not looking good & everyone judge it as a washout screen,If we change the theme of Xperia Z the Screen looking Good at All.so I think its same for ZL too.
So viewing Angle are still not good as in IPS panel are, but remember the viewing angle issue is raised in just the Case of Xperia Z/ZL Cause Sony using the same TFT panel in all of their Smartphones & since than No one Complain or Raise even about A bit for the viewing angles,
Xperia T/TX are using same TFT screen Panel but no one said in their reviews that the Viewing angles are Bad & are Washout. But there is actually need to Point out the issue because poeple Spend A lot of their Hard erning Money & in result they don't Get the good thing.
In the Same sense with our TVs Picture Settings in Our Family member Set it to Vivid, some one came(suppose Papa) and set it too Standard & you like Soft or any of Factory settings given in Picture Mode of your TV.
so the point is that the Everyone have their own Preference for the Colors & look on something.
Although we all Admit that Sony should Put the IPS Panel screen in their High End Smartphone, there is no Lag or Cons in Xperia ZL either than of slightly viewing angle, Because in Some situations we must have need for Viewing Angles(not all the time), In that condition the screen Fade out is really a shame for the owner of device as well Sony too because we having a High end smartphone and the screen is Fading in some conditional bloody angles.
I'm saying again there is no any Smartphone which is Perfect in All of their Aspects.
Htc having Heavy software,as well the Htc oneX+ is A issue with its wifi by manufacture, Some People Blaming Sony for their Late Updated Schdule for Software, But remember & check the Htc is having same thing with Software updating schedule, and Samsung having their own bloatwares type software in their mobiles. The Clean and Best nearly Stock Android you Can found in Xperia Z/ZL Smartphone in Form of Jelly Bean (4.1.2).
Also the App "screen Calibration" is putted in Xperia ZL for screen Adjustment by user Preference.
Mostly the chance is that the Latest Software May set all of the issue Regarding our Concerns.
Go in your Nearly Store & check for yourself the screen how its looking to you, leave that how its looking to another person.
God Bless you
I've been using the C6506 since April 3rd and I can honestly say that I *really* love the display. Calibrating with the WB app really helped and everything looks really sharp. I couldn't care less about the viewing angles, because honestly, how many times do I really need to look at the phone off-angle? I moved from an iPhone 5 for this phone and it's far, far better.
hey are the viewing angles of this phone that bad bcoz i m going to buy this phone,i m using xperia m and i dont notice the contrast problems in it so are they good in comparison to m?and is the front cam placement really that akward and does the position of front cam really matter?plz rly i want to buy this phone!!!
Well the viewing angles are not the best, that's true. But why would you ever look at your phone from a weird angle? I like the display and have no complains.
Regarding the front cam, I don't really use it and if I do then in landscape, then the camera is in a very good spot I'd say.
Unless your trying to watch videos with several other people, the viewing angles are fine. Honestly, I never use the front cam... I can see that if you were trying to actually use your screen right handed while using the phone, it might be an issue... dunno.
It's reasonably fast... it does heat up if you use a significant amount of cpu/gpu horsepower while playing games.
Some folks have had issues with premature battery failure/shutdown...
The screen isn't quite as vivid as an amoled screen (think Samsung s4).
The camera takes decent daytime shots, but kind of falls off for low light shots.
Which carrier are you planning to use it with?

Color reproduction seems decent... It's kind of like comparing a Plasma to an LED backlit LCD display... I think you get deeper blacks with AMOLED vs what I'd classify as more of a dark grey/light black on this...
Color's look great when you have contrast and brightness turned up.
I came from a Samsung Galaxy S3 (which my wife now uses)... This is faster... the display looks pretty good... it's really sharp... it's a pretty impressive screen and if I hadn't ever had an AMOLED screen on my Galaxy S3, I'd have thought this was exceptionally awesome... it's pretty good. I should re-lock my boot loader and see if the bravia engine really does make things look better again...
U mean colour reproduction is good even without bravia engine?!

Colour reproduction is better with bravia engine set to off, bravia engine makes colours too vivid, you get more natural colours w/o bravia engine
The zl does not have a good viewing angle. But I used mine spot on. So no qualms about it. I bought it because of its compactness.
Anyway, I bought an Xperia C today, for my father. And guess what? Xperia C has better viewing angles.
I tested it. Auto brightness off, maximum brightness.
I'm wondering why the low priced Xperia C has a better viewing angle than the premium ZL.
When I use my friends iPhones or any 720p phones they look very grainy to me. Is it just me or is it because I have gotten used to the QHD display on my G3? I used to think the iPhone screen size was ok...now when I use it it's like a toy, and I have a hard time navigating the screen ?
Also whenever I use the S4 it definitely feels a little more grainy after you get used to the QHD panel. Is anyone else seeing those sideffects. I think my perception quality expectations is out of the roof now...makes me wonder how people claim that a iPhone PPI is more than enough ?
Same here, every smartphone I am looking at looks kinda grainy, it's hard to describe...
The display of my mother in laws Galaxy core something with it's 800x480 4,3" display looks like a crossword puzzle ☺
Frankly even some 720P phones make the iPhone look grainy, the iPhone is one of the lowest DPI phones you can still buy, it doesn't qualify as HD by any definition.
Yup my other phone is iphone 5 and its sh*t compered to g3 my mother huawei g300 that is just ridiculous
Agreed, even the 1080 phones look quite quite grainy. The sharpening and variable quality screens ruin the G3 display though.

I know it makes me think what the hell are the iPhone fans thinking when they say that 300 PPI is more than enough or 1080p is unnecessary. Even the New iPhone 6 4.7 and 5.5 inch models won't have FHD. Totally will look grainy for sure.

Well yeah, I'm just talking about graininess
Not just you, I also have a Moto X and that screen just screams of pixelation.
I'm starting to see old image assets showing their true low definition in apps, live wallpapers, games ect. Luckyily this isnt a 4k phone or it might be more noticable, as is things will only improve for 2k and 4k as time progresses. I can really tell text has lost the jagged edges it had with my old 720p phone which is nice.
Wanted to add it will be strange seeing mobile devices pushing uhd more than most, remember the image quality android and ois started with?

When I say they look okay, I mean they look okay... Not fantastic or anything. I personally like the lg g3 display. It doesn't have that saturated look that Apple pushes with almost all of their displays.
It's more like a Eizo or Ben-q monitor. I guess you just have to work on them for period of time to appreciate it..
Some folks will dislike the output and some will make the necessary color adjustments to the device. I have colleagues who have looked at footage or hi res pictures on my device and they like the output..
YMMV

The S4 and G2 displays are sti some very nice displays buddy. R2member they are still 1080p display.
With the galaxy s series phones you can calibrate the screen really good. On my issue is screen burn in.
The g2 to me is an okay display. The s4,wasn't something I cared for display wise. I still have my G2. I never noticed screen burn in with my g2
I tried using my calibrator on my g2 and I failed!!
When the new devices drop, it will be the same issues. The iPhone will have glue issues like they always. People will complain about the note 4 display until a few updates come out, and people will talk about the moto's radio more than anything else. The N6 will be buttery smooth , and that will be the sticking point for most with each particular device..
Power consumption concerning the higher end displays will be interesting with these devices..
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

What's also interesting will be if these displays actually change after being used for a while. My tv needed X amount of burn in time before the calibrator came out and to my place and did some adjustments to the tv.
If anyone can expound on if that is the case with these displays that would be interesting to get some source material on and read up on the subject.

Hello !
I was just about to order my OP3 and I saw on YouTube in an OP3's review someone who was complaining about the clearness of the screen and even two guys answered him like 'yeah u right'.
So you guys, daily use, do you feel like screen is a little bit not clear, I really enjoy reading tons of books and watching series (more than 7k episodes) even very late on night so I must know if it is indeed as these guys on YouTube said a little bit pixelised and you know, like in old screens not really really precise, gives the feeling that they are drooling, flowing, runny, and not good clearness.
I must apologise for all my english misspells, english is not my main language so, sorry about your eyes.
Thank you and I wish you guys a very good day !
Just nah... My screen is as big.. Nothing to worry about i get my OP3 soon. Even my PC monitor is 1080p 23".
But your computer's screen doesn't has the same pitch as the op3 dude
Only problem I found is having ambient display lower my brightness too low for some movies I like to watch. Quickly fixed by turning it off and manually adjusting brightness.

I'll see how that compares tomorrow. I'll be going from a qHD LG G4 to the OP3. It's sharp and all, but then again, the LG panel never was praised for being exactly the best on the market. The brightness sucks in the outdoors ... and you can't use it in landscape orientation if wearing polarized sunglasses - which is terrible if you're trying to shoot pictures or video outdoors in the sun!
I'm really trying to like the Honor 7x but I get headaches using it and I think it's something funny with the screen. When held vertically, in portrait position, looking at the screen while reading emails and the news gives me a head ache and I can't put my finger on why. It's almost like certain parts of the screen are out of focus. It's better when held horizontally in landscape position but still not great. Adjusting the blue light filter and changing the white point doesn't seem to help, although whats interesting is that dropping the screen resolution in the battery setting helps a little.
Any one else having similar problems?

You're right, there wasn't anything wrong with the phone. Perhaps just a screen calibration that I just couldn't handle with extend use. Youtube reviewer Damir Franc sees it too and calls it a weird screen contrast calibration. I think it's a combination of the contrast calibration, the not so great viewing angles, as well as major glare in practically any lit situation. I get it, its a budget device, but isn't the screen supposed to be the main selling point with the Honor 7x? It sure as hell isn't the lack of NFC.

I returned the Honor 7x and don't plan on trying a new one. I don't think this screen calibration issue that I have with the Honor 7x is unique to the device I had received. I think the 7x display was calibrated this way to make the budget panel "pop." Initially I thought the display was wonderful but after staring at it for more that a few minutes I realized that I wouldn't be able to use the 7x as my daily driver. Like I said in the initial post, turning down the screen resolution in the battery settings helped but didn't eliminate the problem.

Loll, he is simply calling it weird brightness.. A lot to go on for guys like you i guess..
The display isnt oled panel of course..
The brightness which you guys are referring to is the color popping out in the broad day light.. Its intentionally done so as to give a good brightness outside..
The viewing angles? Of course its an ips display so it wont give the viewing angles like those with amoled displays in the mid to high range phone category..
And i call it the 2017 budget phone since no phone has the amoled display with 18:9 ratio..
Nor MI A1 which is the closest competitor has the viewing angles which youre refering to..
They cant give you all the features of a 500$ phone in a 200$ price point..
Chip in cash for unecessary bump i guess then..
That ll be good for you..
But for most 510 nits is a really good display brightness compared to the averagr 470 level..
Sorry To Hear That..
