[Q] Best-ish Sony Stock ICS - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I`m planing to downgrade to an official Sony Stock ICS ROM (& and strip the bloatware) to get all the features working (HDMI). I was planing to pair the stock sony ICS with a kernel like Lupus. Before doing this however I wanted to ask if anyone has a recomendation on which Stock ICS version to get because I remember reading that one of those was a major flaw.
Additionally I'd like to know if anyone has/did run stock ICS+custom kernel and could share his experience with speed/smoothness and such, because I remember running the LT18i_4.1.B.0.587 firmware before rooting my device some years ago and the whole system was so laggy ... which lead me to try custom ROMs first and evetually unlock the bootloeader and go for custom Kernels later.
Any other recomendations are welcome.

I believe the newest is the best you can get, which is 4.1.B.0.587. You can also try 4.1.B.1.13, but it is a branded firmware and may have some additional bloatware installed in it.

Thanks. I remember 4.1.B.0.587 was really laggy when running on stock "everything". I'll try it and see if I can get it running smoothly with a custom kernel...

Even with a custom kernel, stock 4.1.B.0.587 will still lag a lot because of all the bloatware Sony added inside.

And extremely awful optimization.

[Q] Few questions about ARC S roms, rooting and in general

First of all, im new on these forums, so hello everyone
I have experience rooting, custom rom'ing and such from my Samsung Spica i5700, but dealing with ARC S roms and unlocking seems to be a whole different world!
So, the .62 update hit me, and ofcourse without reading XDA, I updated my -only- rooted phone. Now I have the bloatware back and cannot root, blasphemy!
So I thought about unlocking the bootloader, there comes the first question
- Does the automatic root kit (DoomLords thread, v4 by now) work with .62 that has had i'ts bootloader unlocked (he mentioned it DOES NOT work with stock .62)? If it does not, which tutorial or tool should I use? Ive seen Flashtool being used, and something about flashing whole new stock roms?
Now also, I am a big fan of custom roms - but the default rom of ARC S has some great things I've noticed and use alot, so I would love to keep those. As I was looking into Arconium 6.1 rom (nearly perfect it says!), I would love to know if it has the following things still available
- Sim Toolkit, known also as STK. Because in my country we have Mobile ID cards integrated into SIM cards, so basically I can use my phone to prove my identity and give digital signatures wherever I go. This is a must have for me.
- The phone has Sony Ericsson menu under Settings. Under there, I can connect my phone to my PC over WiFI (if it has PC companion installed) - I love this feature as I dont have to connect the cable, or mess about with slow Bluetooth speeds. Does the Arconium have this capability?
The stock rom is good enough, atleast for the moment, but I love getting more out of my device. Although if it means losing those two features, I will probably stay with stock rom, and just try to root it, and remove all the bloatware.
I have been reading the forums, but lot of different threads, and they all tend to say some different things. Confusing to say the least! Also tried searching the Arconium thread about SimToolkit, only had some questions about version 3. So again, no info there.
If any of you could give me any insight into these matters, would be very lovely. Would save alot of time by not installing Roms and such that do not even suit the needs.
Once again, thank you in front for all the help
Best wishes,
Erki

No, it only works until .62 firmware (e.g .42 & .58 firmware).
Search a little about how to root .62 firmware.
Or you could downgrade to .42 firmware using Flashtool and root.

V6 Supercharger would be also great if you only want to root and remove all bloatware.
Definitly try arconium 6.1, it's awesome and super fast

Cheers to the both of you. Cleared up my questions nicely.
I shall try out the Arconium.
But the kernels - lot of people using DoomKernel, and then the one dp94 mentioned V6 Supercharger. Benefits - downsides to both of them? Dont care much for overclocking, because the performance of 1.4 Ghz single core is more enough for me (atleast for the time being). Would love better batterly life and/or performance without overclocking.
As far as I understand, the best way to do things is unlock bootloader, root, install CWM on phone, then let it install the CWM recovery, and from there just apply the custom roms?

V6 Supercharger is a script, not a kernel.
You should definitely try DooMKernel. It's the best combination of battery life (recommend to try -36 baseband) and perfomance.
And you have to flash kernels using fastboot.
Thanks again
After looking for ways to root .62, and not finding anything - I felt like an idiot.
Then suddenly I realized what I had read about Doomkernel - it does root and CWM automatically!
Now running DoomKernel and Arconium
Would love to run CMmod, but as far as I can see, it is still missing HDMI and FM.
Cheers for all the help mate

Yes, that's correct.
Atm, these features are only working with stock based ROMs.

[Q] GB vs GB root vs ICS

Hello,
Had a quick question for anyone willing to give me a bit of feedback. I've been thinking about rooting my Xperia Play. I'm hesitant only because I don't want to get it if the functionality of ICS will be much of an improvement, if at all.
Should I stay with Gingerbread and wait to upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich or should I root now and wait till the root for ICS is available in the future? I've been reading the forums here and found plenty of people trying the Beta ICS and it seems like it depends on the person whether they are fond of it or not. I'm certainly not wanting to Beta test ICS.
I'm looking for a kick in the right direction. I mean, I know I can unroot the phone if necessary I've seen forums about such, but it seems like an ordeal to root and then just to undo the root and I can tend to be a bit lazy. So should I stick with plain Gingerbread, wait to upgrade to ICS, or go and root my phone for the boost now in terms of power?
I use my Xperia Play as a phone, emulator, music player, and for general apps. Basically, just general recreation and it can certainly feel slow when just pulling up my texts on my phone. Let me know what you think is best.
Why would you need to unroot to upgrade to ICS? Just root now and upgrade when ICS is stable
An ordeal to root? The rooting methods are 1-click, it couldn't be easier

Exactly bro! Root on gb will beunrooted if you upgrade to ics. I thnk you mess up infos about rooting and unlocking bootloader.

Asking too many questions. If you wanted it, you would know you want it and you would have done it by now.
Stick with what you have. Wait for the official update. It'll be along soon I am sure

If you use DoomKernel with either the Official Sony Beta ICS or KA12 ICS beta roms you have Root.... if you flash KA12 it auto roots on install.....just FYI

Don't think one click rooting methods are available if he is on the latest firmware..
correct me, if im wrong..
Gonna comment to the OP's question about the speed difference as someone who has now tried (1) the standard GB rom (on verizon, so 2.3.3), (2) a super-fast GB replacement (Cola), (3) the Sony stock ICS beta, as well as (4) a custom rom based on the ICS beta....
IMO aside from a couple of very specific cases (email on GB releases really slowing the phone down when connected to Exchange ActiveSync, for one), no version of ICS will ever be able to match the speed of GB on this phone. I'm sure that some custom ICS roms will be great, but a custom GB rom built for speed will still be able to win in the end.
I could not help but upgrade to ICS lol, My boot loader has been unlocked since the day I bought it but when the Beta was released and they made progress on it (WiFi, and stuff) I just could not help myself , Once you remove bloatware its really stable and smooth.

ICS and GB roms have different kernels so before you try to use install the rom from CWM make sure you have installed the correct kernel. I'm not too sure what options are available anymore for locked bootloaders because most roms now incorporate tweaks that aren't supported by them. I would just take a look around the dev section for ROM, if they don't specify they need a unlocked bootloader then drop the dev a mail asking.
Thank you
It honestly looks like every single rom I have come across requires unlocked boot loader. That why I thought I would if some one has seen something specific
Basically I want a leaner and smoother rom then the current Sony one

[Q] Speedy Rom for Arc S (Lt18i) locked bootloader

Hi Guys,
I am running the .62 official rom and looking for a bloat/crap free ROM to use with my Arc-S. It is a bootloader locked and cannot be unlocked so I need a working rom.
ICS is too slow for me. I can install CWM with x-parts so that works, I have installed some custom ICS roms from CWM backup zips and it works but I can't find any for the GB.
I am hoping for a very rustic base rom with no crap installed. I found a few like X-Gamer but they require the .42 official rom first and I cannot find any working link for it.
Hoping someone can help, I have done quite a bit of searching and really looking to put an end to this journey!

Hmm... It is not possible to run jellybean/kitkat without unlocked bootloader, so you have no choice but to use ics ICS has awesome batery life BTW.
Have you tried Xperia ultimate hd by jader? Its not bad. It has aroma installer, so u can unselect those crappy apps.
Press thanks if i help^^

1. You're not allowed to create threads that ask for fastest ROM, or "speedy ROM" as you put it. Please change thread title or a mod will close your thread.
2. Since you're on locked bootloader, you have no choice but to stick with stock based custom ROM. UHD is one good example. However, if it doesn't suit you, you will have to find out for yourself. None of the users or the developers can help you here since you're the one using the phone.

ICS consumes more battery as a base ROM as compared to GB since it uses more resources and has more functions. Please do not give wrong information. The few ways to help ICS save battery are ROM tweaks, kernel tweaks and basic knowledge about maintaining your ROM to make it less power hungry.
If he prefers performance over functionality, GB will be a better choice for him.

Each ROM has it's pros and cons so you can't say for sure which ROM works best. Of course if you feel that it works fine, I have nothing to say since it's your phone.

Doesn't mean he cannot flash custom ROM. As long as the custom ROM is stock based and uses stock kernel he can flash it with no problems. He can easily use X-Parts to install recovery, flash any stock based custom ROM and use it. Locked bootloader does not allow unsigned kernel(a.k.a any custom kernel) to be flashed on the phone since only Sony can sign the kernels.

There is no N rom for this phone with battery life or stability even close to any stock KK or LP rom. All ROMs after LP are experimental and buggy to some degree. Also, since there is no official stock rom after LP, anything else would require a computer to unlock bl.
I would suggest flashing the MX ROM as far as I know this is the LP with best battery life now. It can be installed on locked bootloader and is as stable as stock LP.

Thanks for ur suggestion. Yes i know mx rom. Been reading the forum for a litle while. Worth to try
And not to forget that there are no security patches for stock LP since.... a long time. That is why a lot are using new roms although the battery life is not so great in comparison to stock roms.
Guys forget about MX rom! There is new ROM by munjeni out there. It is based on Lineage OS 14.1. It has decent battery life, good camera (almost like on stock), great stability, all security patches and is smooth like butter.

yes, that rom from munjeni also looks the best for me. When I have time I will upgrade fom to Jaguar ROM to that one.
If you have stock KITKAT you CAN'T flash 5.1 or newer roms via recovery.
This is because from android L the partition scheme is changed, so you MUST use flashtool to flash first the stock LP ROM.
If you flash a LP rom via dual recovery in kitkat you'll brick your phone!
And I'm surprised that no one said it to you.
Once you flashed stock LP, rooted, installed REAL RECOVERY and unlocked bootloader, you can install any custom ROM.
If you don't unlock your bootloader you can flash ONLY STOCK BASED rom.
Cheers, and good luck. (I hope you didn't brick you phone)
