Disable OTA update without root - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Have a ATT S3 running 4.1.2 / I747UCDMG2.
I got the popup for the OTA update which advised if I go to wifi it will download. I did not hit continue and just hit the home button.
I do not have root, and want to make sure I do not get the update... Any suggestions? Would disabling "Google services framework" work?
Thank you in advance.

No one?

Try disabling ATT updater)

What I did to avoid the 4.3 update on my new phone on 4.1.2 and my wife's phone was to allow it to download, allow it to begin instalation when it got to 50 % I pulled the battery and reboot it. It worked that way for me on two phones without root.
Has anyone else done this? I don't get notifications for it anymore.

If you installed a custom recovery OTA will terminate between the download & installation. It installs via recovery & requires stock.
If you try this be ready with Theramsey's move just in case.

[Q] New GS3 - not getting JB update?

Had my GS3 for a few months and it's been great! So I got my GF hooked up with a Sprint GS3 as well (she loves her gadgets, too):good: but it's still on ICS and not getting the JB update from Sprint. What's the issue? Tried the system update/ reboot / etc. Hers is not rooted. How do I get it to prompt her for that update?
Thanks!
Very easy process, go to system settings, click on applications Manager. You will see tabs at the top (download, running, all). Go to the all tab and scroll down to Google service frame work, click on it and on the next screen click on clear data. Go back to system update, this will show you available updates. If you don't see it in first try, do this for few more time and you will get the JB update.

This man speaks the truth. I just did this yesterday and it started the update process on the third try. You may have to try more times than that, though.
Thanks!! I'll have her try this when on wifi.

I did this over the 3g and it works fine.

One thing to note.. You must also press force stop after you hit clear data. Wasn't working for me until I pressed force stop

This didn't work for me. I tried at least 20 times. Looks like I stay on ICS.
I have been biting my nails waiting for this update since I got the message about it. Finally got around to check online........
BAMB-updating.
Now for some free tethering to work???? Yeah I want everything.....Thanks for the tip
Why wouldn't this work for me? Is it because I'm rooted?

Don't accept an OTA if you're rooted. If you're rooted just flash a JB ROM instead. If you accept an OTA with a rooted device you run the chance of losing root.

Provided you have a custom recovery installed (CWM or TWRP) you can accept the OTA update and it will fail because you're not on the stock recovery. Doing this will also help to avoid the repeated OTA notification. :good::good::good:

Lost Update on Note II and Can't get it back! Help!

Hello, a couple of days ago I received a pop-up notification in my notifications bar that said an update was available for my device. This was on Wednesday. Since I was at school, I was unable to update at the time since I didn't have access to WIFI and had two tests to write. During my tests I had to turn off my phone. When I did, I guess the update disappeared because when I turned my phone back on it never came back! I tried going into "settings", "about", "software" and hitting "check for updates", but it just keeps checking for updates continuously and never actually finds one. I really want that update! How can I get it back?
I'm on Rogers, and my model number is I317M. Anything else you need to know, just ask. I really want my update back! Please help, and thank you in advance!
Maybe it was pulled by your carrier or Samsung.
Try kies to update. But you'll have to download the whole rom again then. Also you can try sammobile for latest rom.
If you are on pre dll7 do it asap.

Hello, thanks for your response. So if I try updating using Kies, I'll have to download my rom again (meaning I'd lose all my data)? I don't want to lose all my data! What is pre dll7? I'm actually on a rooted stock rom, does that make a difference? Sorry I just got this phone a couple of months ago, so I'm still new to it. Thanks!
Pre dll7 means the firmwares released before dll7 like dll4 and dll5 and all starting from a. No you won't loose data.
It's just like a normal update just you have to download the whole firmware of 1gig again.

Try clearing data from
Setting - application manager - all - software update (both)
Sometime it may able to get ota again
But even after getting update it will install successfully is a big question if your device is rooted.

I'm not sure since I lost the update before being able to check it out, but I'm assuming it is the "multi-window" feature that many other Samsung Galaxy Note II phones have recently received, as it was a software update. Has your phone received it yet?

Okay, so I should try clearing the data through the applications manager? You said both, but I saw you only mentioned clearing "software update" data, what do you mean? And I assume "ota" is the update, correct?
Why would having a rooted phone prevent me from receiving an update? When I had a Sony Xperia X10, it was rooted and I still received updates. I also have never heard of rooting impeding updates in any way. Was I misinformed??
you may see 'software update' application two times under application manager, i said clear data for both
yes, you are mis informed at least you have heard such things for Note 2.

Hello, so I went into the application manager and tried clearing both data, but it didn't seem to helpp me get the update back =( Maybe the only other way is to update with Kies as was said earlier. I'll try that. Also, thanks for responding and trying to help with my issue, I appreciate it! =)

Ota update failed problem

Well here is the problem .
I was in the university when I noticed the latest update is available for n7100! so I started to download it with my 3g connection downloaded about 10 mb and I noticed that I dont have enough airtime credit left to download it so I canceled the download. When I got home I tried to download it with wifi connection and it says it's the latest update what do I do I want the update sooo bad
Can any one who installed the update give some info about the os version and new features ?
Is there a flashable file of the new rom?

Well the problem solved looks like server side problems. I downloaded the update but I get failed message at 25% I'm on stock recovery and device status is normal! what's going on?

There used to be the OTA files update only available on sammobile, however I don't know if they're available anymore or not.
Secondly, it's not possible to say what has been upgraded until we don't know on what version you were/are atm, and what will be the updated version.
And lastly, when you are doing things like this, you need to have an unlimited plan or something.

Take backup of important data and factory reset, it may solve issue. But you have to download update again and rarely I have experienced still fails to update. In such cases kies/odin only can solve.

I'm having the same issue. Phone declares it is modified when it reboots, so it is related to being rooted. Been investigating to no avail.
Have fiddles with triangle away settings and SuperSU's survival mode.
Finally got there. Unfroze all frozen apps with Titanium backup, uninstalled busybox, xposed framework etc - i.e. used option in app to remove from rom. Not sure which of these got it working.
Killed off my root, but CF autoroot again and all is good. New rom seems more responsive initially, will have to see about battery life etc in the long term.
Update: The wifi would not work after update. Flashed afresh using kies, and all sorted.

Can I remove system update Notification?

Ive just reverted back to 4.1.2 from 4.2.2.
However, I still have the constant OTA update in the Notification area. Is there any way to remove this?

Sure, if your phone is rooted and you have Titanium Backup, you can freeze the "Update Center 1.3.4.A.0.10" app and no more notification about updating your firmware. You can simply "defrost" the app later if you want to update or receive the notification again.
Or, if you have root but not titanium then go to /system/app and rename UpdateCenter.apk as UpdateCenter.apk.bak
It will never trouble you again if you want it back sometime just rename it back to original

No need of root. Just go to
settings---->apps ---->all ----> update center ---->force stop. And all done.
Press thanks if you are really helped.

Freeze to stop OTA

Looked at my titanium backup and was looking for the app to freeze to stop the ota. Could someone point me in the right direction. Thanx
Verizon model
I have the ATT variant and I just froze the app called "Software Update."
After freezing that, the software update option disappeared from "about phone" menu so I think that did the trick.

Some ppl on Sprint got an OTA pushed to them it broke their root. They were rooted and the ota still worked.
FYI: On the T-Mobile variant the "Software Update" is called "Update Center". Under Settings / Apps there is no option to disable this, unfortunately. It allows you to force stop it but it just starts back up again.
It won't be a huge deal once we have root because we can use Titanium Backup or Root App Delete to remove it. However, I'm just hoping Root gets released (hopefully tonight) before an OTA comes through which may make the root method outdated.

Actually it will offer you the OTA, but when you press "accept" it will error due to root before it downloads - LG do a root check before it downloads the OTA.
