Can I remove system update Notification? - Sony Xperia ZL

Ive just reverted back to 4.1.2 from 4.2.2.
However, I still have the constant OTA update in the Notification area. Is there any way to remove this?

Sure, if your phone is rooted and you have Titanium Backup, you can freeze the "Update Center 1.3.4.A.0.10" app and no more notification about updating your firmware. You can simply "defrost" the app later if you want to update or receive the notification again.

Or, if you have root but not titanium then go to /system/app and rename UpdateCenter.apk as UpdateCenter.apk.bak
It will never trouble you again if you want it back sometime just rename it back to original

No need of root. Just go to
settings---->apps ---->all ----> update center ---->force stop. And all done.
Press thanks if you are really helped.

Except, of course, when you restart the phone it will be back again which is not what the OP is looking for!

[Q] Juggernaut v3.7 & T-Mobile Updates

I just installed the juggernaut rom by Team Kang on my T989 yesterday. I woke up this morning and found a prompt on my phone for a new update from t-mobile.
I thought I would take a look at it and went with the whole update and all it did was taking me to the recovery screen.
I rebooted and the update notice is still there. What's this about?
You should pull the file and give us the link. That would be helpful!

I'm not really an expert so if you would be kind enough to tell me which file you're talking about.

It's the new Tmobile update to Android 2.3.6. Its the new update with Wifi calling and Gtalk w/ video installed.
The thing is, I restored my phone to stock and didn't get the prompt, but get it if i go back to juggernaut

I'll look up how to pull an update. It's been a while since I last had to do this. Bear with me... It will be just a few minutes. I don't wanna use ODIN for the update if at all possible.

The strange thing is everyone on that ROM seem to be getting the notification. I'm stock and have tried both Kies and manually checking like a madman with no notification whatsoever.
I still have the notification and all it does is send me to the recovery screen.
this worked for me
unroot phone, use kies to update firmware to 2.3.6
There is no 2.3.7 update it was 2.3.6 must be a rom error
I install the Juggernaut 3.7 on my phone on Dec 24 and after reboot I was keep getting same message again and again for the T mobile update what I did is went to the system app and removed the asynchrony.apk and I stop getting that updates message. If I have helped you? Please don't forget to pressThank you button

You will need root explorer or ES file manger go to system and in system click on app and in asp you will that file in the bottom and remove and reboot and enjoy.
I tried es explorer and could not find the file. I'm beginning to think i'm going to unroot and then do the process all over again

Official JB Update (w/ Link)

The official OTA link is http://d-h.st/3j0.
The update script checks for all the original .apks, .odexs, etc. Update fails when any of the original files are missing.

Edit: Nope, no need for SBF on a Safestrap phone, just go back into Safestrap and uninstall the recovery.
I was getting a Status 7 failure from logwrapper but it does not require SBF to fix. Hooray!

Did you uninstall any bloat apps? If so, did you restore a backup or is everything just working for you? I am rooted on JB leak and uninstalled many bloat apps and just trying to figure out what my next step is here. And what does SBF stand for? Sorry for the ignorance, never owned a locked bootloader phone before so this is all new lol.

I only disabled bloat apps, didn't uninstall any. It checks to make sure all system apps are present (but not enabled). Your only option if you've uninstalled bloat apps using something like TiBu and if you've installed the JB leak is to revert to ICS factory image. SBF is "system boot file."
You're going to need to grab the ICS fastboot file from the dev forum and install it before either the OTA or this will work.
Root on its own is not a problem but if you have changed system apps (bloat is all "system") you'll need to do that.
If you installed safestrap that's fine, but you have to uninstall the recovery using the app before this will work because it checks the boot sequence.
Is the official update going to be worth it if we already have the leaked jellybean? All the sites I've read provide the same information regarding the new features for the update (all the same as the jellybean leak). If anyone has updated to the official jellybean from the leaked can you provide any information regarding the differences between the two
Confirmed working, and according to the Verizon PDF this official version has improved 4g reception as well as less drops on signal, improved WiFi and Bluetooth its running fine for me, going to try root and safe strap now

Root not working which means safe strap is not working.... reverting back too old jb leak for the time being
Installed and working great.
OTARootkeeper backed up root then temp uninstalled root. Booted into stock recovery, flashed OTA from sd card, booted up, restored root, made sure entitlement_check was still set to "0"....tested stock hotspot app and works great.
Thanks OP for providing the link.
Can't wait for a non Verizon version of this. The RAZR M has to be my favorite android phone so far - great form factor and great hardware... just being stuck on ice cream sandwich is a bit **** but I'm prepared to wait

Yes, this is Verizon's official OTA. I haven't been running long so I will not comment much on stability. For the first few minutes one system app continuously force closed and restarted and the notification bar / soft keys disappeared. A reboot solved those problems.

The SU binaries were deleted during my install, despite OTARootkeeper. However superuser responded to app requests giving the appearance of root.
And you are welcome.

Root checker stated I was rooted. May have to check again to make sure the binaries are still there. Will mess w/ her (g/f's) phone when she's done using it.
Just went back to Jellywiz from Paranoid on my S3 w/ some new radios we got leaked, so been busy setting all my crap back up.
Really hoping we can get Pimp My Rom on the M soon.
I also had no issues re-rooting with OTA Rootkeeper after manual update. I think I'm enjoying project butter the most!
If I install this like other people did with the leaked version, will I have any issues if there is ever another update?

[Q] New GS3 - not getting JB update?

Had my GS3 for a few months and it's been great! So I got my GF hooked up with a Sprint GS3 as well (she loves her gadgets, too):good: but it's still on ICS and not getting the JB update from Sprint. What's the issue? Tried the system update/ reboot / etc. Hers is not rooted. How do I get it to prompt her for that update?
Thanks!
Very easy process, go to system settings, click on applications Manager. You will see tabs at the top (download, running, all). Go to the all tab and scroll down to Google service frame work, click on it and on the next screen click on clear data. Go back to system update, this will show you available updates. If you don't see it in first try, do this for few more time and you will get the JB update.

Don't accept an OTA if you're rooted. If you're rooted just flash a JB ROM instead. If you accept an OTA with a rooted device you run the chance of losing root.

Provided you have a custom recovery installed (CWM or TWRP) you can accept the OTA update and it will fail because you're not on the stock recovery. Doing this will also help to avoid the repeated OTA notification. :good::good::good:

Yeah it will remove the root but you can re-root it after the update or use supersu pro to conserve root (though not guaranteed).
Have you modified any system apps or files at all? If not i don't see why you won't, just be sure to run Voodoo OTA Keeper before installing the update and restore it after the update. As this update patches the ExynosAbuse exploit
Download OTA root keeper from the play store.

So you are saying that you were on a rooted stock LK2 ROM, and ran the OTA update successfully without losing root? And this was without using RootKeeper OTA or SuperuserSU set to protect root?

Your phone will not correctly install an OTA update if you have a custom recovery. You will need to find it in the development forums, already rooted, and as a flashable ZIP in custom recovery.

Disable OTA update without root

Have a ATT S3 running 4.1.2 / I747UCDMG2.
I got the popup for the OTA update which advised if I go to wifi it will download. I did not hit continue and just hit the home button.
I do not have root, and want to make sure I do not get the update... Any suggestions? Would disabling "Google services framework" work?
Thank you in advance.

What I did to avoid the 4.3 update on my new phone on 4.1.2 and my wife's phone was to allow it to download, allow it to begin instalation when it got to 50 % I pulled the battery and reboot it. It worked that way for me on two phones without root.
Has anyone else done this? I don't get notifications for it anymore.

If you installed a custom recovery OTA will terminate between the download & installation. It installs via recovery & requires stock.
If you try this be ready with Theramsey's move just in case.
