Well Its about Releasing Driver Source For Cpu and Gpu By BroadCom
The Petition Sign SeemS To Get Completed
Already Reached 9890 .
Required 110 More For Request.
Well Its Like Forcing Broadcom For Releasing Drivers Source.
If We Get Then
If Broadcom releasethe drivers of GPU and CPU for BCM21553 devices, we should be able to run much more things than the one we can on custom OS. This will include CyanogenMod, AOSP, CyanMobile and lots of other differents OS. If they release the Source, we could have Ice Crean Sandwich 4.0.4 smooth on our device. Even we canthink of first Jelly Bean port based on 4.1.2. Port of android 2.3.7 it has released stable release due to we used Alcatel GPU and CPU libs. They were similar to AOSP, so we could use it on our devices for CyanogenMod 7.2, AOSP, and CyanMobile. All of them based on android 2.3.7, because Alcatel uses AOSP 2.3.7 sowe could use it easily.
HopinG That they Will Give Not Test Binaries Like older One

I agree with OP... Just like other lower end devices (lower than GT-5360) which got a stable update from SAMS-- were able to flick this and that easily with their toys...
BUT OP, you should know.... Why is it that they are delaying such things or demanding this and that... ITS actually a smart MOVE.
Good day

Any chance of a tasty Ice Cream Sandwich please for the Hero ?
thanks to elelinux for a great rom
should be possible after the release of the source code (maybe next month?).
without the source it looks for me that it won't be possible to boot the emulator image on our hero, because it is compiled for armeabi-v7a (snapdragon cpu) only.
thank you for your post
booooo sounds like time for an upgrade

That's different. SDK is not kernel source. That's why most honeycomb Ports aren't complete. No source was released.

Maybe someone can get it to run. but I don't get my hopes up if I where you. if you look at 2.3 how that runs on the hero comparing to 2.2 and mostly 2.1. And 4.0 even more stuffed then I guess not
touch wood, 2.3.7 is working well for me on my Hero (dont really to upgrade just to get Android 4.0)
But keeping an eye on some HTC Desires on ebay nonetheless

I hope for a Vanilla 4.0, with no heavy CM mods

I thinks so too.
I remember when on this forum we were discussing about porting Froyo 2.2. on the Hero...lol...
Its not long since the GB rom's were considered too fat for the hero. Look at us now..... mines has never been so quick.

I completely agree with Prof Peach. GB was slow on first releases and now it flies so maybe it's hope for 4.0 too when the sources come out and them maybe it will boot on our Hero after the devs cast their magic.
yea, but don't forget the one and only honeycomb rom for gsm hero which JieeHD (I think) created from the sdk...
YES it was from sdk and so it was a miracle it ran at all, but it was SO slow that you couldn't even try the UI features of the rom. No the hardware didn't work at all, no data, wifi, etc, and that is all because it came from the sdk. That wasn't the purpose of the sdk build. It was just to play with the honeycomb UI, but even then the UI should have run alright if it was ever going to run on the hero.
However that rom (which I still have kicking around somewhere) showed me just how honeycomb was clearly made to run on much more powerful hardware than even gingerbread requires.
So I personally will be very surprised if it works well enough for daily use.
But then I'm running a gingerbread rom that is fast enough for daily use and perfectly stable... and I bet against that every happening back in teh day LoL.
I've been wrong before, and I hope you guys can prove me wrong again. I'm always happy to be wrong when I'm being pessimistic!
...
To upgrade or not to upgrade? This is the big question for the android community!!!!
It will run on the hero, but since phones are getting bigger, i think it's gonna be kind of weird to run 4.0... We will have to see it ported firts
As far from what i see and what the google guys reported...every phone that can run GB can run ICS... so that means that there can't be a big problem to run the os, and since the nexus S will receive the update, that means that there is a way to disable the on screen buttons...
For the moment we stick with what we have !!! And we have to THANKS the devs that keep this phone alive. As for the part with upgrading to a new phone, i think we have to wait for the next gen of processors (quad core) or buy phones like nexus S that now are on slim prices
PS: since i got my tablet, i'm not so much into getting a new phone
Stefan
yea, tablets are awesome. Same here - I've used many android tablets and my employer supplies apple devices for my dev work at one company.
Tablets are awesome if you truly embrace them and buy whatever options you need to use them as virtual laptops effectively.
Agree with dkelley...if you have places where you can use them, it's better to have one...i use mine all the time, from movies and finishing with reading stuff.
I have to admin i was thinking on to buy a desire Hd / Nexus S...but not so shure
Stefan
yeah i love my Hero to bits, cost me £50 with Android 1.6 pre installed on it from some guy at work lol.
Whilst i can appreciate its an old handset etc etc, its running gingerbread like a dream, so would love to see the 'consolidated' release of 4.0 on there, i feel google will have dropped a legacy beat if only snapdragon cpus are supported.
admins feel free to move this to the Q&A sub-forum if required

For me the Hero is a phone. and nothing more. It is a little smarter phone then my moms. She can text and call. I can do that and I can also send mail check agenda and navigate some. That is what I use my phone for. If I need more then I will use my laptop anyway. So the Hero with some easy rom is fine for me.
Android 4.0 will bring problems and stuff that I will never use anyway. If you look at most devs on the Hero forum. They are good porters and breakers of things. I am the last one, a breaker XD There are still a half hand full of devs for the Hero.
I think the CDMA will have 4.0 sooner then the Hero. But that is just my oppinion. If they ever get it...
And is there an upgrade for sgs2?

Yep – the sales of that underpowered, underappreciated and mostly unsubsidized Android smartphone are exploding around the emerging world. To the tune of 1.75 million devices shipped per month (which is the sales rate comparable to Galaxy S2). And it’s no surprise, when you can get Galaxy Y for something like $120 without a contract. Add to that the sales of its QWERTY brother Galaxy Y pro and other low-end Samsung Androids – and the total sales number for cheapies this quarter may be somewhere between 8 and 10 million.

We still have some pretty awesome roms available though for the Y, even if we don't (yet) have any official or unofficial Cyanogenmod:
Creeds' ROM v2.0, v2.1 update and v2.5 which has the unique 'Swipe to remove notification' which no other custom ROM has on this phone.
And ChobitsDigitalis v1, which is the rom I'm using, and has certain Cyanogen elements to it.
There are a number of good roms available. There've been threads where people claim to be porting Cyanogenmod 7, but we're still waiting...

One peculiar problem I have seen here that most of the Developers don't have this phone. Nearly every developer starts his thread saying this statement that they don't own this phone. This makes testing difficult. Instead of the developer testing and debugging he has to rely on the users. This makes the task doubly difficult.
Whereas in S2 forums hardly any developers states that he/she doesn't own this phone hence development is very fast there.
Hmm....

You are half right. First we have to get a good custom kernel to port CyanogenMod into it. once kernel is developed 60% of work would be done
I am using Merruk_Technology Kernel overclocked to 900 MHz but it is in beta stage as wifi does not work with it

well, then the feature's name should be "swYpe to remove notification" lol
i'm loving this phone
Is there such a thing? If not, what are the barriers preventing it? It seems bizzare that now there is a official ICS release from Sony, that there isn't a ASOP based version of it, that uses the Sony kernel and drivers...
I've been wondering about this. You mean a patchrom build like they do with MIUI?
If so, I'd really like to see one with AOSP/AOKP/CM9. There'd be full hardware feature support (eg. HDMI, FM all working).
I think a little more support and development on both ICELITE from Zdizihu and Hybrid from JJ and we'll accomplish it....
Btw this should be on Q& A...

Uhh, AOSP rom is a rom that has been made out of Google's source code. Stock rom is made out of manufacter's source code(in our case Sony). That said AOSP rom can exist in a non-Nexus phone... CM7, CM9, MIUI and ICELite are good examples...
Lack of AOSP it's due to lack of true potential developers for Arc...even the ones present are least interested in working on AOSP built...
I know there are several developers here in Arc but not many are capable of compiling the thing from source.. Even FXP uses CM9 source instead of Google source....
If you go at HTC Sensation and GS2 sections you will find many potential developers for high end devices since users with such expensive devices also support them by donating openly...
Even if they compile from source it will take them ages to fix camera and HD video which is always a big challenge for developers...
Making an AOSP look alike ROM is the only solution for now...
Hopefully someone amongst the capable ones take a step in future
Questions go in the Q&A section
Friends, I was eager to get the One X , and I love flashing new roms etc.. so I wanted to ask, since it has a Tegra 3, and tegra 3 is not as open as Qcomm and omap , how do you think the development would be once htc asus etc. who are using the tegra3 chips stops updating future android versions..will it be developmental friendly for a longer run?
If tegra or htc don't release sources etc. Or updates wouldn't it be an issue later on? Please do advice. thanks!
The reason I ask is that currently on exynos4 by Samsung the support is horrible and development is struggling.. So I wanted to make sure before going ahead. Thank you!

But both the HD2 and Desire Z have qualcomm chips. qualcomm updates its git codeaurora so regularly, with the latest android patches.. hence its getting good development
tegra and exynos are almost closed source, and most of their development depends on kernel sources or blobs.. and once the new update stop the development comes to a halt with half things not working properly..

How's the development with T2? I believe that T3 has been more open cos of it's massive relative success, with it being in so many gadgets that moved many many many units. That might make Nvidia more willing to be open with their code and SoC base.

Hello everyone,
We all know Android 4.4 KitKat was released today(1/11/2013). Since the source will be availible, is it possible to port it to the kindle fire(1st gen)? If yes, please make a stable rom.
Thank you and have a nice day
(Wanna get rid of CM 10.1)
It will take at least a week I am guessing, because the update "will be rolling out over the following weeks" as Google said, and then people will have to port it, so just have a little bit of patience. Also, why don't you switch to CM10.2 if you don't like what your on, or AOSP for that matter, as that runs better I personally think.

Not very likely since TI (the chip maker for the KF) won't be supporting android any more... or that's at least what I read. I'm hoping that I'm wrong though.

I cannot change too quickly. Mom allowed me only for CM 10.1, and now for CM 11(It will come, right?). Cannot do CM 10.2.
That kernel is not ready for primetime, also there is code that the chip maker will have to release code for it. See hash and others posting about it:

As was previously stated, Texas Instruments is out of the microprocessor chip game and they have stopped supporting the binaries for newer versions of Android. It wasn't directly stated by Google but it's very likely that it was for that reason that they chose not to support the Galaxy Nexus in the newest iteration of Android, as it also uses a TI chip. I'd like to think that it would be possible to run Android 4.4 on the old Kindle Fire, especially since it lags pretty badly on stock, but I am afraid that the likelihood is fairly low.
