Hey guys. This is my first post. Ive been reading the site for years and decided to make an account because i needed some advice. I can usually come here and find what i need which is the case but the info i cant get to work properly. I have found other threads about this but the programs or instructions to get the phone to root do not work. Either the program says its finished and the phone is rooted.. but its not. Other programs simply wont root. SuperOneClick errors at start however i am sure if it doesn't root 2.3.4 that it wont root 4.0.4 so i haven't been to worried about SuperOneClick. I read one forum that mentioned to download and make a folder for Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v15. I ran this program and it said it was successful however the phone still doesn't have root. I also tried a program that ran a "runme.bat" file that also said it was successful however the phone still has no root. I found a rootxperia.zip file when installed via CWM said it installed but again, still no root. This is verified in all cases by trying to open busybox with a message that it cant gain root and also with the rootchecker app. My phone is unlocked as you may already know cause i am on 4.0.4 with FXP 2.6.32.9 kernel , 9-20121108-UNOFFICIAL-zeusc Cyanogen 9.
I hope thats more than enough info. and i am trying to achieve the best in CM9. Kernel and Mod. If im not using the the best please point me in the right direction. With all the info it was quite easy to get confused. This is the only combination i found to get CM9 working with WIFI. (please no wifi questions. i tried for days to get it to work. it didnt. then when i reinstalled the kernel and mod at a later date.. it just worked. :-\ )

Download the rootXperia zip. Then go into recovery...install from sd... Rooted.
Try installing rom again then the root xperia zip right after.
Sent from my R800x
i tried it already
"I found a rootxperia.zip file when installed via CWM said it installed but again, still no root."
Thanks. Although i tried that and it didnt work. Like i mentioned in my original post.
I am going to re install the mod then install the update exactly after the mod installs.
After clearing all the info in cwm and reinstalling the mod.. then installing the rootxperia.zip file.. i am still not rooted.. so this triple check still shows i have no root.

You cant root 2.3.4 R800x firmware you must downgrade to 2.3.3 with flashtool. Or unlock your bootloader and flash a custom kernel that enables su automatically. Rootxperia zip only works for 2.3.3 and below.

OK.. how do i know if a custom kernel has SU enabled? I mentioned in the post that i do have the bootloader unlocked and that i am running a kernel/rom of fxp cyanogen9.
I have SU in the app drawer but busybox and root checker both say im not rooted.
You may have to update the su app from the gplay store. Then update the binaries... Inside the su app

Running on a Verizon R800x CDMA with CM9 4.0.4 rooted.

I've never used a toolkit on my HTC devices, so I can't speak to their effectiveness. Perhaps they need an update to work with Lollipop.
I recommend using TWRP recovery (just because it's the one I used and I know it worked for me. Can't speak to CWM or Philz)
Flash the SuperSU update zip found here: http://download.chainfire.eu/695/SuperSU/

Hey,
Sorry to revive an old thread. I just installed towelroot from towelroot(dot)com, it went successful. Now my phone says "towelroot" can damage your device. :crying: What should I so, I can't uninstall it can I?
I installed "Root Checker" from google play and it says "Root access is properly installed on this device!"
I couldn't find SuperSU on google play.
What's next? My device is Xperia M C2005 4.3 Stock FW, Build No 15.5.A.0.18
Thanks,

Supersu has been removed from playstore due to some reason. You can download it from their website or just search on Google.

Thanks for your reply. I was just wondering, if my phone is rooted, do I need to install SuperSU?
I checked SuperSU website www(dot)supersu(dot)com(slash)DOWNLOAD and all the links seem to be dead.
I wanted to install TWRP recovery, I installed the app from playstore, flashed twrp img to recovery, but when I try to reboot to recovery, it reboots normally. Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks for your help.

If you are in stock rom twrp won't work. Cwm recovery might work. And yes you should install supersu so you know which apps are using root access.

Okay great, but now I have more questions.
Xperia M C2005, Stock FW 4.3 Build 15.5.A.0.18
Bootloader unlocked: Yes
Phone Rooted: Yes
Now can I install SuperSU via adb command? Few weeks ago I installed SuperSU on my Moto X via TWRP and that's the only method I know so far
or is there any other method? I found the zip file on download(dot)chainfire(dot)eu, now I don't know how to flash it without TWRP.
I'm also planing to install a cleaner much lighter custom rom. Can I do it without TWRP? If yes, how? If you can guide me to a thread or link that's be great too.
Thank yo so very much for your help. :highfive:

If you are already rooted then just install supersu apk. If you google it you'll find many sites having download links.
For custom rom, well I think you misunderstood me. You can access twrp while on stock rom. It's just that you can't flash anything I guess. (I actually forgot what was the problem anyways) I think you are pressing vol - button while power on. Try keep pressing vol + button after installing twrp through adb command. Then usual procedure for installation of custom roms
Here's link to how to install custom rom but one thing is make sure you flash magisk zip along with rom zip.

Hello everyone! I installed recently Lineage OS 14.1 on my Zenfone 2 and I saw that there is root acces just for ADB.. so I googled the thing and I found out that I had to install the su binary.. so , I downloaded it , booted into recovery, flashed the zip( successfully), booted the system and went into settings and I saw that now I have access to root for apps to.. until here , everything was nice, but after that, I downloaded Root Checker to verify if the root is working and guess what? It wasn't.. I searched everywere, but no results..if somebody can help me, please reply.. Regards.
Have you tested it, by connected via ADB and do a "su" command? Same with a terminal emulator on your phone?
> just saw that I have access to it
You should choose that, man.

Have you tried running the command "adb root" first and then "adb shell" ?
Did you install the superuser x86 zip from LineageOS - https://download.lineageos.org/extras? I know you said you did, but make sure it's the x86 version. You'll also need to go back to root access and turn it on for apps and adb.

I registered just to thank you!
In my case it wouldn't not only not work with the official LineageOS root method, it wouldn't accept any other method I tried.
The ones I tried (Magisk and SuperSU) got me stuck into recovery boot without being able to get back to the system and I had to do a clean flash to get it back working again.
Fortunately this solution worked and now I have my Zenfone 2 rooted. Thanks!
Hi everyone! I know it's long so I'll try to make this short:
Final goal is lineAgeOS 14.1 or CyanogenMod 11 on this device. (https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=142288)
Device running android 4.0.4,
rooted (That was a pain),
Bootloader unlocked (unless it automatically get locked again after flashing a rom?)
current recovery is TWRP 2.4.3 (also tried cwm 5.0.2.7)
my PC running windows 7 ultimate 6 4bit.
TWRP can't flash the lineAgeOS 14.1 rom.
ADB sideload fails with the error message "device isn't connected". ADB does work fine, however, in fastboot and when booted to stock rom
So I'm trying to flash newer recovery, anything that can handle the rom.
Couldn't find newer recovery for this model. I looked ALL OVER. The generic TWRP.img (https://dl.twrp.me/twrp/) bricks the device.
(I managed to unbrick, but I'm back with the inadequate TWRP 2.4.3 or CWM 5.0.2.7).
Can anyone help me please? I've been busting my behind for 20 hours on this.
I had similar issues trying to flash custom rom to another device, problem was solved by flashing newer recovery.
So my best guess is that the problem here is similar if not identical
What's your adb version? I think maybe you need a newer version of adb. Search for 15 min adb installer on Google and you'll find a thread by Snoop05. Download version 1.4.3 and let me know if that works!

Holy **** man, that worked! Thank you so much!
Another question if that's ok: Do you know why the phone won't boot without the SD card? It seems to only boot with the card that was in it when the rom was installed. Yes, this model has a pathetic 300MB of internal memory, but a good 100mb of it is free (with the ROM installed).
Again thank you so much!
Impressive!
I also have a LT18i.
Do you remember how you succeeded to root and unlock the bootloader?
Cheers!
