Hi guys ☺,
I bought today G4 eu model,it came with Marshmallow 6.0 V20d version.
I want to root it because of Greenify and Xposed,to increase the battery time, maybe later to flash some rom but...
There is a lot of topics on this subject,I started to read but I'm lost right now...as far as I saw,I can't root Marshmallow without unlocking the bootloader, only Lollipop, right?
Is it a big trouble to go back from MM to LP?
I'm not new in this flashing and rooting stuff,I had (still have) a Motorola Razr XT910,I flashed it 100 times for sure for 3.5 years but I didn't had to unlock the bootloader (it's impossible anyway) and there's a custom recovery Safestrap, modified Twrp which allows to flash and use 6 different roms, from JB to MM,without changing the kernel...
I will be grateful if someone can point me in the right direction,to give me some useful links etc.
And is there some list which procesess are safe to freeze with TB and which ones I can greenify?
Oh,and the bloatware too...
Sorry if I'm demanding but I want to bring out the best from this phone
Thank you in advance

Hi,
root without unlocking bootloader works only on lollipop, right. Not sure if u can downgrade, but when, u will use "LGUP" tool with the "H81510D.kdz" file. Maybe there exists a pre-rooted kdz to flash.
If u want to root android 6, u need a unlocked bootloader. Rooted Android 5.1.1 or unlock bootloader with rooted android 6.x.x
Ok,I successfully unlocked the bootloader but now I'm stuck with rooting and installing Twrp...
I've downloaded BETA-SuperSU-v2.67-20160121175247 and TWRP-3.0.0.0-H815+ but there's a lot of metods,which one should I use?
Flash SuperSu+Twrp with stock recovery?
Install Twrp with adb command and then flash SuperSu with Twrp?
Install both with adb command?
I also saw somewhere that I must flash some other kernel that is already rooted...
I just need root and the Xposed for now, help me guys!
Im also Confused..Where can i find rooted kernel?
I already did this Method u said...But I got Boot Loop
Then I revover my phone with Lg Bridge
We need to find this.....I also Had Android MM with V20d

In my case I wasn't able to flash recovery on the stock kernel, I had to flash boot.img unpacked from the custom kernel like SimpleGX and only then I was able to flash recovery and full kernel through it.

the method i followed was-
1. boot into twrp recovery with adb command(you need to have the twrp.img file in PC and also copy it in internal memory of your phone with SU)
2. flash systemless root with twrp
3. reboot
4. install flashify
5.flash twrp.img from your phone.
6. done
but there aren't as much benefits of rooting as any other phone. viper4android doesn't work. spirit fm doesn't work. xposed doesn't work properly.(these 3 were the main reasons for which i rooted)

I didn't know i could flash something other than .zip files with twrp.
As for viper4android i tried normal way, flashed it with twrp, flashed extreme music mod with v4a fix. None seem to work. The drivers never get installed.
Xposed i haven't tried. I was in process of getting more information about it by reading various threads. But all seem to point to problems like bootloop, fc and Bluetooth issues. Can you guide me towards the best version of xposed for v20d with way to avoid problems or with as less problems as possible?

Flash Imperium Kernel or SimpleGX Kernel. I used their kernels and ROMS on my older phones, they are legend. I suggest you to flash Imperium Rom. It includes kernel and everything and it is updated regularly by its dev.

I think doesn't need to install recovery to root the phone.
Just this:
1) adb reboot bootloader
2) fastboot boot TWRP-2-8.7.0-h815.img
Wait a second and it will open, on the phone, the recovery.
Once open go to Advanced -> ADB sideload and take a swipe to start it where it says "Swipe to Start sideload".
Now on the PC write
3) adb sideload BETA-SuperSU-v2.67-20160121175247.zip
( If it says after the instalation to install supersu etc just abort it)
And then, when installation is complete, press "Reboot System"
I rooted it this way, without install TWRP Recovery

Yeah - but the question has to be asked - why unlock the bootloader and root and not install TWRP? If you've got as far as unlocking the bootloader you might as well make life easier for yourself and install TWRP - that way anything you want to flash in the future can be done without being tethered to the PC, and also allows you to take proper full system image backups etc.

Of course , i agree with you. By the way, we can't root g4 on m6 without unlocked bootloader.
And finally, i decided to pass twrp on my phone, for every file i want to install from twrp, and not every time to boot from pc
You're right
p.s. the first thing i did after twrp installed, was to install g5 live wallpapers
I haven't updated my phone in around a year so I'm trying to update to either Android 5 or 6. Whenever I try to update the ROM to anything newer than 4, I get an error with the rom binaries. I read somewhere that this has to do with the Recovery being outdated which makes since as I'm on TWRP 2.8.0. However, I tried to update to TWRP 3.0.0 and then 2.8.4 and both times my phone got stuck in the Recovery boot process. I also read somewhere that this might be due to an outdated firmware. After more reading, I'm confused on how to update the firmware or what I should do to remedy these other problems. I tried to use RUU_M8_UL_K44_SENSE60_ATT_SECURITY_Cingular_US_1.58.502.1_Radio_1.16.21331931.LA11G_20.31A.4145.02L_release_368350_signed_2 to update my phone off of a guide I found, but it failed. Any help or suggestions would be really appreciated.
I have the ATT m8 and I'm running Android 4.4.4 with CyanogenMod 11-20150106-Nightly-m8 and TWRP 2.8.0. Heres the results from running adb getvar all on my phone
i.imgur.com/QPSAEAY.png
I noticed at some point my phone had radio invalid and basically every peripheral had stopped working; no reception, wifi, bluetooth, or camera. I tried oem lock command then to unlock it with the binary downloaded from htcdev. At that point everything besides the external sd card decided to become unmountable and now only the bootloader and TWRP works. Soooooo......... any help would be appreciated
edit: So I flashed stock recovery and did a factory reset This fixed this particular problem so my phone is at least working. then reinstalled TWRP. Unfortunately, I was only able to install 2.8.0 because of the problem described above so I'm back to square one

This is the same firmware as the hboot number in your photo would indicate.
Relock the bootloader and run the Lollipop 4.28.502 RUU as linked in my AT&T M8 Index thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2751432
Then unlock the bootloader again, wipe cache and try to install TWRP 3.0.0.0

Nice work.
I'm trying to root my ZE551ML (WW-2.20.40.198) and install Xposed, but I can't get any of the scripts I've found here to work. I've installed ADB & Fastboot and this driver. MTP works and adb works when I'm in recovery mode, so I'm not sure why the scripts can't contact the device. None of the scripts recognize the device. Also, "adb devices" shows that no device is found.
It seems that all these scripts are using some variation of CWM to do it anyway. So if I could just install CWM in some other way, I guess I could just get root and xposed through CWM. I have used this official ASUS app to unlock the bootloader. So, I wonder if I could just flash a recovery.img of CWM using the command "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"? Is that all it would take to get CWM installed? And then I could use CWM to get root, etc?
If yes, which recovery.img file should I use and where can I get it?
I think I can get fastboot to work when the device is in the bootloader, so that's what I'm thinking. Also, I can use OS X or Ubuntu then, so I don't have to worry about the Windows scripts.

Haha, you know, I had been struggling with this problem for like 2 days. So many hours on the computer and Google trying to figure it out. I was trying to get the scripts to work, then CWM, then TWRP. I was just really confused and didn't know how to do it since most guides on Google said I had to use the scripts for Windows. Then finally I realized that it was as simple as using fastboot from OS X Anyway, sorry to bother you guys. But Everything is working now, root, Xposed and permanent TWRP. Awesome
Good stuff
There was a script at the beginning in earlier fw versions I think when boot loader was first being hacked.
Remember , if you upgrade to M , unlock boot loader again at .134 with modder tool in general section before updating to .144 and then to .184.

You are doing great now :victory:
TEAMWIN TWRP v3.1.1 for the RAZR M KKBL (xt907 KKBL)
Built from source: http://github.com/minimal-manifest-twrp/platform_manifest_twrp_lineageos.git
All the usual prefaces to using this project. ie/eg I am not responsible for anything if you flash this zip in regards to your device or data etc etc etc
I have built this blindly (ie NO testing whatsoever) as I only have a JBBL device. It was easy for me to build since I have built a JBBL version, and I thought someone may find it useful IF it worked.

Now you just have to find a KKBL ROM to use it against :fingers-crossed: but maybe this will be a case of now that a way to flash it has been made, "build it and they will come"

For anyone wanting to try this just a pointer. This isn't a TWRP flashable zip so you will need to use your computer to extract the IMG file and sideload using fastboot. Working great so far.

I only asked because 1) wasn't mentioned in this thread specifically. 2) Not all devices require the bootloader be unlocked. 3) Why does it need to be a custom recovery? I still get confused about that from time to time because it just amazes me that it seems that's where things seem to always end up and sometimes seems to be a bit too convenient. I'm not vastly familiar with bootloader technology so that's where I scratch my head. I can install TWRP, get to all the settings and options, so why can't I just back up the proper files/imgs and flash the zip?
Looks like I'm going to have to rely on Sunshine then. I wish they accepted Bitcoin. It's that, or lose the phone to old age as it's components and functions fail slowly, one by one. I know I can reflash the stock firmware, it's been done a...few...times.
EDIT: Well s**t. Sunshine DOES accept Bitcoin. If I had known that ages ago...ugh
Just wanted to pass on this TWRP build for KKBL worked great. I ended up "downgrading" to JBBL in order to load a current LineageOS build.
It appears it was just me
I re-flashed my bootloader upgrade CAREFULLY via fastboot, and the error on wiping cache disappeared. however, I still haven't been able to flash a bootable KKBL ROM. It was suggest via PM that I also wipe my internal SDCard, which I have yet to try.

I see the posts saying it works, but has anyone actually successfully flashed and booted (ie past the bootanimation ) any ROM Zip file using this recovery?
Or performed a backup and restore?
I ask this as I finally got around to creating an upgrade (from JBBL to KKBL) for my phone (an xt905 not an xt907) and the two ROMs I tried both boot looped on the bootanimation. Also, I get errors when i try to wipe my cache.
Is it just me?
-----edit-----
I got a PM saying that someone has managed to flash an LP ROM for KKBL using this recovery. So obviously I need to go back to the drawing board on my upgrade to KKBL...
I am considering adding PDS (ie FSD) backup to my TWRP builds see https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74136332&postcount=9 it also applies to KKBL.

The boot loader has to be unlocked because of the nature of the boot loader itself. I ain't no expert, but based on my understanding and what I personally know, here is what a boot loader does:
A boot loader checks the various images (recovery, boot, radio, etc.) and if any of these are incorrect/unsigned (like a custom recovery), your device won't boot. This makes sense, because most users aren't flashing their devices, so when an image is unsigned something is VERY WRONG. Unlocking a boot loader basically turns off the signature check that the boot loader does. If the boot loader isn't checking each image than it will boot up fine whether you have a custom recovery or not.
Recently reacquired an xt907 after "losing" mine. Anyways I rooted with Kingroot and used the mrw root.sh script to switch to supersu. I had to use an older version if kingroot, 4.9.6 for it to work. I then used the Sunshine app to unlock bootloader for $25 and used terminal emulator to 'dd' TWRP to recovery. Everything is perfect and am glad all still works as such.
Now my point: is there an easy guide or something that I can use to port an updated TWRP image? May thanks to everything.

Easy is a relative scale to the person asking the question. Read and answer it for yourself. TWRP builds are muuuuuch simpler than ROM builds.
The following two may mean you do not have to build. I have never used them, as I built mine from source.

The question may also be better asked, after reading, in the thread above
Hello!
so I read all the threads regarding android 10 and mi a2 lite but i didn't find a proper solution or guide for the following problem:
I am on Stock Android 9 with unlocked bootloader, TWRP and Magisk Root.
Now i want to update to the v.11.0.4.0 Android 10 Update, but i want to keep root working!
Is there a way to do this?
If yes, please tell me how (i'm not a pro in flashing, so please explain in detail )
EDIT: i dont mind if i loose TWRP, i just want to keep root and android 10 working
thanks in advance!
stay safe and stay home
Alex

Yes. It's complex because of TWRP.

Thanks for the answer, i already saw this thread but as I already said I'm not a big Expert in this topic, so that guide in the thread is too complex and short for me (and for other most likely too...)
Maybe you can explain it more precisly to us?
I would be very greatful for this!
Or if you know a way too archieve what i want but loose twrp and data... I wouldn't mind. I dont Need twrp and my Phone is New... So
Thanks in advance!
Best Regards
Alex

You can't do it simpler. Mostly because you've got to get back to stock for the OTA.
You can do it different. Get the fastboot. Flash that (don't erase userdata). Then install Magisk and TWRP again.
Not every release gets a fastboot but 11.0.4.0 did so you have this option.
Can you explain this more for me pls?
- What exact files do I need?
- what exactly should i do with these files? (flash with terminal, TWRP, Slot A, Slot B, etc.....)
- is it relevant which version of Android 9 i have?
you would help me alot, if you explain it in detail so that i can do it.
I already tried in android 10 unlocking bootloader and flashed the "disable force encryption" but got stuck on booting screen.
Pls tell me how exactly i should do what, and i will post my results
Thanks !
Best Regards,
Alex
Recomendations
Hello,
I just updated from Android 9 stock ROM, to Android 10 with a custom ROM.
I followed this two YouTube guides from the same user:
How to root and install TWRP:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wy9Z_NN_7Tg&list=LLm7cWm_1QXORlLa5XeTETUw&index=12&t=365s
How to install custom ROM(In my case I installed Evolution X with Android 10 following these steps):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0pcmA_ew-Y&list=LLm7cWm_1QXORlLa5XeTETUw&index=13&t=173s
**Advise**
- Use the same files and versions that he uses, If you use/do something different, you are going to have some problems.
What I'm currently running on my Mi A2 Lite:
- Evolution X ROM(Android 10) -> https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/development/rom-evolution-x-3-3-t4014685
- Nitrogen Kernel r3 -> https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/development/r1-nitrogen-kernel-mi-a2-lite-t4011019
Everything has been very stable at the moment(1 week and lots of gaming and restarts and tests), so I feel fine sharing this.
Best,
delokt

Install instructions in that thread. TL;DR Run the flash_all_keeping_userdata script to upgrade to the version you downloaded. 11.0.4.0 is what you want.
You have Magisk and TWRP. Install them the same way you did before. Go read their threads if you forgot or use the last part of my guide.
Hello Friends, i have good news, i successfully updated my Phone to android 10 and keep TWRP and magisk!
I did the following steps:
- clean install of fastbood v.11.0.4. Android 10 via Mi-Flashtool
- powershell adb: fastboot boot twrp-3.3.1-dees_troy-daisy.img
- TWRP should open on Mi a2 lite. go to advanced and activate adb sideload
- powershell: adb sideload twrp-installer-3.3.1-dees_troy-daisy.zip
TWRP should now be installed.
Then i tried a reboot system and got into the welcome screen, so it booted.
What i did next is, the magisk v20.4 zip file move to sd card or internal storage of the device and flash it trough TWRP.
DONE!
now your phone should reboot to system. It now has Android 10 and magisk installed and working!
Hope i can help someone else with this.
