Hey guys. This is my first post. Ive been reading the site for years and decided to make an account because i needed some advice. I can usually come here and find what i need which is the case but the info i cant get to work properly. I have found other threads about this but the programs or instructions to get the phone to root do not work. Either the program says its finished and the phone is rooted.. but its not. Other programs simply wont root. SuperOneClick errors at start however i am sure if it doesn't root 2.3.4 that it wont root 4.0.4 so i haven't been to worried about SuperOneClick. I read one forum that mentioned to download and make a folder for Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v15. I ran this program and it said it was successful however the phone still doesn't have root. I also tried a program that ran a "runme.bat" file that also said it was successful however the phone still has no root. I found a rootxperia.zip file when installed via CWM said it installed but again, still no root. This is verified in all cases by trying to open busybox with a message that it cant gain root and also with the rootchecker app. My phone is unlocked as you may already know cause i am on 4.0.4 with FXP 2.6.32.9 kernel , 9-20121108-UNOFFICIAL-zeusc Cyanogen 9.
I hope thats more than enough info. and i am trying to achieve the best in CM9. Kernel and Mod. If im not using the the best please point me in the right direction. With all the info it was quite easy to get confused. This is the only combination i found to get CM9 working with WIFI. (please no wifi questions. i tried for days to get it to work. it didnt. then when i reinstalled the kernel and mod at a later date.. it just worked. :-\ )

Download the rootXperia zip. Then go into recovery...install from sd... Rooted.
Try installing rom again then the root xperia zip right after.
Sent from my R800x
i tried it already
"I found a rootxperia.zip file when installed via CWM said it installed but again, still no root."
Thanks. Although i tried that and it didnt work. Like i mentioned in my original post.
I am going to re install the mod then install the update exactly after the mod installs.
After clearing all the info in cwm and reinstalling the mod.. then installing the rootxperia.zip file.. i am still not rooted.. so this triple check still shows i have no root.

You cant root 2.3.4 R800x firmware you must downgrade to 2.3.3 with flashtool. Or unlock your bootloader and flash a custom kernel that enables su automatically. Rootxperia zip only works for 2.3.3 and below.

OK.. how do i know if a custom kernel has SU enabled? I mentioned in the post that i do have the bootloader unlocked and that i am running a kernel/rom of fxp cyanogen9.
I have SU in the app drawer but busybox and root checker both say im not rooted.
You may have to update the su app from the gplay store. Then update the binaries... Inside the su app

That seemed to be it.. Once i installed the ICS GApps, and my apps updated.. I got the superuser popup to accept or deny apps once i restarted the phone. thanks..
Running on a Verizon R800x CDMA with CM9 4.0.4 rooted.
Good to see it was just an update issue.

Well, i had the audacity to uninstall busybox installer from my r800x 2.3.2 because i thought i had the busybox free installed too. Thereafter, i found out that my root was not working properly. Root is still working with some apps and is not working with many apps. Now, I cant' re-install busybox because it doesn't get root rights, can't update or remove superuser.apk since even that doesn't get root rights. It seems the only app getting root rights is x-parts which i used for installing cwm. Apparently, even recovery mode is not working anymore(no busybox remember?:silly. I don't want to use factory reset! What does the settings reset under privacy settings do anyways? Any work-around for this??

download SuperCharger_Starter_Kit_RC12.zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18703418&postcount=5021 and download scriptmanager from market (if smanager can be granted su per.) then extract .zip and run it as root it will install busybox and if not working try rooting it again and at last flash firmware using flashtool and root it:good:
you live in india so i doubt you have r800{X} (just a guess)? I mean check if its r800i
Well I have tried superoneclick and doom's method many times, no luck! And, yes, its a verizon, r800x configured to use a different carrier. Also, it can go into fastboot mode, does that mean its bootloader is unlocked? I guess flashing an original ftf would discard my prl settings right? I bought this phone pre-configured for a different carrier. I just rooted it and installed nAa's cwm for xperia 2011 series. As mentioned earlier only nAa's cwm installer is getting SU rights.

i think its best for you to flash suitable ftf file and start again with rooting and yes you will lose your previous data, backup can only be done if you are having fully working su....

Since your xperia play originally came from verizon your bootloader is locked regardless and since your bootloader is locked you can't flash a custom kernel that comes with superuser already installed. My answer would find someone to unlock your bootloader.
My phone info:
Model no: LT18i (rooted with CWM installed but with locked boot-loader)
Android v: 4.0.4
Baseband: 2.6.32.9-Perf [email protected] #1
Version: 4.1.B.0.431
I wonder if there's a way to upgrade to the new version .587 without loosing root. From what I understand I will loose root if I update with Pc companion.
In OTA it says PC Companion is required and OTA won't work.
Is there a way to flash some file in CWM or flash-tool even though my bootloader is locked?

@ExperienceD:
Thanks but I still don't know if my root will be gone or not. The only guide for firmware change was with PC Companion or SEUS what I could find, which I believe removes root. It's so much job to root it again.

do you know why you cant update with OTA?
Its because you have cwm, you must delete cmw recovery and try again with OTA and no if you have rooted 431 and you do the OTA, you dont lose the root
try to install the CWM Recovery and then uninstall maybe that works, but i never tried it

But mate 1 advice, search before posting !!!

That was indeed real helpful! :good: Now I see, so thanks a lot! But don't think I havn't searched for answers for hours.
Good though that I wrote about having CWM installed, since I almost missed that particular detail.
I'm not quite sure about one thing though; the part with installing and then uninstalling. Since I have CWM installed I figure I'd rather try to uninstall it first then upgrade with OTA and then reinstall it once again. (hope that's what you ment.)
Uninstalling X-parts won't be a problem but I've always thought that X-parts worked similar to "Busy-Box Installer" which can be uninstalled without loosing the "Busy-Box"-installation. But I'll try uninstalling "X-parts" first then look for uninstallation-script in the very CWM-menu if CWM still remains.
I have choosen "Survival-mode" in SuperSU to make the root survive the OTA (didn't think it would "survive" otherwise)
I've realised that the greatest challange is to uninstall CWM. Uninstalling X-parts didn't change a thing unfortunately and there's nothing from within CWM either.
I've almost given up the idea of keeping root, it seems almost impossible! But still I believe there has to be a way to uninstall CWM without wiping everything.

I guess there's nothing else to do; I have found that the only known way to get rid of CWM is to install stock recovery and even if I managed to uninstall it all removed system-apps could be an obstacle for OTA to work so I would have to reinstall all systemapps I have removed earlier.
Hi Guys,
This is my 1st thread to guide you to correct resource rather as many of us have struggled to root the AtT ICS version ROMs.
I was on leaked iCS v18f installed immediately when available, struggled hard to root it.. Tsparky, Doomlord, SuperOneClick, manual root,. No go for more than a couple of months.. Found the Bin4ry root method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
Worked in 1st attempt.
Thought it should work on V20c as well,, upgraded to v20c.. rooted in 1st attempt again (no surprise there)
UI is smooth as silk and response is awesome..
Right now Rooted, no-frills CPU, ADW Launcher Ex and Network Selection Tweak by -ReaL-. (as the *#*#4636#*#* code to choose network selection is removed on V20c) THANKS A LOT..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1823399
My Phone is a like a ripe cherry for the 1st time and I am jus loving it...
Thanks to all the mods and developers..
NOTE: Confirmed working on both ICS versions V18f and v20C, single attempts, though doesnt work on Gingerbread as explained in the linked post.
Doesnt work
I tried the method provided, and i followed the instructions and no luck for me with my LG nitro, with stock ICS on it
Device detection
Make sure USB Debugging under "Development section" and Unknown Sources under "Security" are selected.
Launch the "command prompt" as Administrator. Make sure it lists your mobile phone when you run the command "stuff\adb devices" U r good to go..
If it doesn't, then the drivers are not installed properly, check in Device Manager there are no unknown devices or devices with yellow exclamation marks etc.. Make sure drivers are installed properly. The above condition should be met to root your device.
Please go through the video tutorial in the link attached for Bin4ary root method
Attn Mods
Hi MODs,
If you think this should not be as a separate thread, please merge this with any existing thread about rooting P930 with AT&T ICS
Thanks..
Works like a charm
Many thanks, it took me 5 minutes to download and root my nitro(official ICS).
I recommend making this thread as sticky thread for rooting.
It works but you don't have full root, SU and CWM can be install but when I attempt to boot into recovery, I get the boot certification error. Damn LG for subscribing to the Secure Boot fad, started by Micro$oft. I have the LG MultFlash Tool, where can I download a Stock AT&T Gingerbread firmware?
Check in one of the various unbricking threads there you will find all the files and instructions required. Good luck

Anyone else get the same result on V20C, after rooting and flashing CWM cannot reboot into Recovery Mode? It just boots into Fastboot because of boot certificate error. Anyone have an ADB solution that can work in Fastboot?

Yes, u r right,, CWM does not run on ICS, either V18f, V20(X) versions.. it would cause issues if u try CWM on ICS.. hence we have so many guides to go back to Stock GB, install CWM and install Custom ROMs, kernels etc

Ok thanks, was attempting to just use LG Flash Tool to flash Gingerbread rom but the DLL that I have is for UPGRADE. I need a DLL to allow Downgrade, Looks like I have days of aggravation ahead to get CM10 on my Nitro.
Finally got unbricked and rooted. Now on to CM10 Thanks to everyone!

once I got 10F.KDZ flashed, I ran SuperOneClick 2.3.2 to get root (make sure USB Debugging and Unknown Sources are checked and also make sure your computer has Microsoft's .NET 3.5 installed, I ran into a problem getting SuperOneClick to run without it) once rooted, I was able to side load an updated GooglePlay.apk, then downloaded ROM Manager, rebooted into recovery. I did discover that the current recovery cannot see SDCards larger than 2 Gigs, because it could not detect my 16 Gig card. So I used a 1 GIg card with CyanogenMod 10.0.0-P930.zip, did a wipe of all the partitions and Dalvik Cache. then installed CM10. After CM10 installed I flashed the AT&T baseband back into the phone using ADB. My Nitro looks awesome now. Had to download the latest gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip and flashed with ROM Manager. One last thing once CWM Recovery is flashed to your phone, to get into it manually, simply hold the volume down + power until you see the screen asking you if you want to factory reset, click the power button confirming, instead of hard reset it will load CWM Recovery.:good:

And the post that I quoted mentioned having boot problems when trying to flash ClockWorkMod AFTER rooting...
So all of sudden, my rooted S3 is not rooted anymore.
I wanted to use Titanium Backup and it says
"Sorry, I could not acquire root privileges. This application will *not* work! Pleasre verify that your ROM is rooted, and try again.
This attempt was made using the "/system/xbin/su" command."
and then I tried my other root applications such as Greenify, App Ops and they are all saying my phone isn't rooted anymore.
I don't understand, I never upgraded my phone after I rooted and I never flashed a different rom and kept the Touchwiz Rom.
I used this guide to root my phone originally:

If you just upgraded to Android 4.3, you need to manually re-root - consult the relevant forums for your device!"

In terms of re flash root66, that means simply using Odin and re-rooting my phone like I do the first time right? Would it be the same instructions too?

I can't uninstall supersu as it gives me no option to do so. I can only uninstall all updates that were applied but not complete remove and then install it.
I had this happen on my Tmobile Galaxy S3.
I read somewhere else on XDA that you just had to install the latest SuperSU, in zip form, from recovery mode.
I havent posted enough here to be able to post a link, but you can find it on chainfires website.
Then reboot and it should work.
I installed AOKP 4.4.4 ROM today. But the default superuser app is not working at all. I am handicapped totally because of it. Even the developer's option is not turning on even after hitting Build Number button 7 times. Plz help me fix this as no one in that thread seems to have that problem. I installed a different SUPERUSER app. It says binary is not updated. Where do I update the binaries from? I checked the root status of my phone with the help of ROOT CHECKER app and it says U don't have root access. How the hell did I flash a custom ROM without root access. I am totally confused. My phone is XPERIA M SS C1905
That happens to me all the time in CM11. What you're gonna have to do is replace the su binary as it is not suitable for the ROM (I think). Just head over to this page, download the file, then flash with CWM or TWRP. After flashing, uncheck the setting in SuperSU that says "Respect... ( I forgot the other words)". Then you're good to go.
