Hi Guys,
This is my 1st thread to guide you to correct resource rather as many of us have struggled to root the AtT ICS version ROMs.
I was on leaked iCS v18f installed immediately when available, struggled hard to root it.. Tsparky, Doomlord, SuperOneClick, manual root,. No go for more than a couple of months.. Found the Bin4ry root method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
Worked in 1st attempt.
Thought it should work on V20c as well,, upgraded to v20c.. rooted in 1st attempt again (no surprise there)
UI is smooth as silk and response is awesome..
Right now Rooted, no-frills CPU, ADW Launcher Ex and Network Selection Tweak by -ReaL-. (as the *#*#4636#*#* code to choose network selection is removed on V20c) THANKS A LOT..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1823399
My Phone is a like a ripe cherry for the 1st time and I am jus loving it...
Thanks to all the mods and developers..
NOTE: Confirmed working on both ICS versions V18f and v20C, single attempts, though doesnt work on Gingerbread as explained in the linked post.
Doesnt work
I tried the method provided, and i followed the instructions and no luck for me with my LG nitro, with stock ICS on it
Device detection
Make sure USB Debugging under "Development section" and Unknown Sources under "Security" are selected.
Launch the "command prompt" as Administrator. Make sure it lists your mobile phone when you run the command "stuff\adb devices" U r good to go..
If it doesn't, then the drivers are not installed properly, check in Device Manager there are no unknown devices or devices with yellow exclamation marks etc.. Make sure drivers are installed properly. The above condition should be met to root your device.
Please go through the video tutorial in the link attached for Bin4ary root method
Attn Mods
Hi MODs,
If you think this should not be as a separate thread, please merge this with any existing thread about rooting P930 with AT&T ICS
Thanks..
Works like a charm
Many thanks, it took me 5 minutes to download and root my nitro(official ICS).
I recommend making this thread as sticky thread for rooting.
It works but you don't have full root, SU and CWM can be install but when I attempt to boot into recovery, I get the boot certification error. Damn LG for subscribing to the Secure Boot fad, started by Micro$oft. I have the LG MultFlash Tool, where can I download a Stock AT&T Gingerbread firmware?
Check in one of the various unbricking threads there you will find all the files and instructions required. Good luck

Anyone else get the same result on V20C, after rooting and flashing CWM cannot reboot into Recovery Mode? It just boots into Fastboot because of boot certificate error. Anyone have an ADB solution that can work in Fastboot?

Okay, once again. YOU HAVE TO UNBRICK NOW. LOOK IN ONE OF SEVERAL UNBRICKING GUIDES FOR OUR DEVICE TO SOLVE THIS ISSUE. Sorry but there is simply no way around it.

Unbrick to flash CWM... only way coming from V20C. If there was a simpler way it would have probably been posted, but there's not.
CWM wont work on ICS for now

Yes, u r right,, CWM does not run on ICS, either V18f, V20(X) versions.. it would cause issues if u try CWM on ICS.. hence we have so many guides to go back to Stock GB, install CWM and install Custom ROMs, kernels etc

Ok thanks, was attempting to just use LG Flash Tool to flash Gingerbread rom but the DLL that I have is for UPGRADE. I need a DLL to allow Downgrade, Looks like I have days of aggravation ahead to get CM10 on my Nitro.
Finally got unbricked and rooted. Now on to CM10 Thanks to everyone!

once I got 10F.KDZ flashed, I ran SuperOneClick 2.3.2 to get root (make sure USB Debugging and Unknown Sources are checked and also make sure your computer has Microsoft's .NET 3.5 installed, I ran into a problem getting SuperOneClick to run without it) once rooted, I was able to side load an updated GooglePlay.apk, then downloaded ROM Manager, rebooted into recovery. I did discover that the current recovery cannot see SDCards larger than 2 Gigs, because it could not detect my 16 Gig card. So I used a 1 GIg card with CyanogenMod 10.0.0-P930.zip, did a wipe of all the partitions and Dalvik Cache. then installed CM10. After CM10 installed I flashed the AT&T baseband back into the phone using ADB. My Nitro looks awesome now. Had to download the latest gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip and flashed with ROM Manager. One last thing once CWM Recovery is flashed to your phone, to get into it manually, simply hold the volume down + power until you see the screen asking you if you want to factory reset, click the power button confirming, instead of hard reset it will load CWM Recovery.:good:

And the post that I quoted mentioned having boot problems when trying to flash ClockWorkMod AFTER rooting...
Related
Hi!
I've seen some treads on this topic but couldn't find an answer (a big newbie here )
.
The problem is: I flashed a rom twice (HD revolution) and everything is fine. But now I wanted to flash to 3.0 but the rom manager doesn't work as when I try to flash clockworkmod recovery, the superuser always force closes and that's it
Can anyone help?
I am sotry but I do need more or less a step by step description (as I said a newbie )
J
Any more information to give as im just trying to figure out your next steps.....if you can flash roms you should be good to go.....try using clockword mod to fix permissions and download titanium and install busybox through the problems tab in the app.....
Of course
So, I did a root in January, then put on the Adroid Revolutions2.0.8
after a while I upgraded the 2.0.8 with 2.0.11
+ I changed the radio (again using the step by step receipe on this site) toRadio_12.35d.60.140f_26.06.03.24_M2.
The first time flashing the rom and the second time I hade no problems.
The thing is also that I downloaded a program to tell me what my root status is and it says The phone is not rooted?! Is that possible?
I thopught once you root it's rooted for always?
Should I root again?

If your using a custom rom, you already have a custom recovery, just take your battery out, when you put it bk in hold the volume down and power key, at the bootloader menu, choose recovery.

No, once rooted, you will loose root if you flash an unrooted rom, 99.9% of custom roms are rooted though, as long as you have a custom recovery you can always flash another rom.

Is this possible?
If you installed it through CWM, you can just flash back. If you didnt use CWM for any reason, then you have to go through the unbrick method i believe. Its a bit of a pain and a time consumer for your first time through but it does in fact work.
If by stock u mean without root then I'm pretty sure there's no way. You could try using the unbrick method then using the unroot option with SOC. Idk if it works though

I went through this recently. Using the unbrick method gives you root,, so it's still not stock. Super one click wouldn't fully unroot it either, even though it was what I used to get root during the unbrick process. I finally got desperate enough and used DoomLord's unroot kit even though he warns to not use it unless you used his root kit to gain root initially. It worked and I was finally completely unrooted as far as I could tell.
So there I was with what should be a completely stock V10f LG Nitro HD. I even got a notification for an OTA update. It would download it, but it always failed at 2%, no matter how many times I tried it. I also tried using LG's mobile support tool I downloaded directly from the official LG Nitro HD website, but it kept telling me my phone was up to date.
So to sum up this thread, the easiest way to play around with the leak is to root, install CWM, backup via CWM, flash the leak via CWM, then revert back if you want to and unroot if necessary.
Either way, yes it is completely possible to do. Its more work if you flash the leak directly, but ultimately still doable.

I wouldn't consider it doable if it breaks the update process and causes you to get stuck on the old v10f ROM.

Hi all
I have bell p930, came with GB 2.3.5. I rooted it and with cwm install cm9. Then tried ICS leak flashable but it stuck into bootloop. I restored it with my cwm backup. Then yesterday I install ICS leak exe file. Every thing went smooth. But as I already knew that its difficult to root. But others have done it. So I tried all nothing happened. Then I tried unbrick method to go back but that also failed. Then I found ( viperMOD_PrimeTime_v4.6 ) its option 2 did the trick. Now its rooted. Now I thought that I can install my stock image with adb shell commands. I did that but when I booted and set to reset it looped at boot with messages "unable to find resource" "not verified" "fast boot" "long time no see"
It does not connect to computer with adb any more. Then I tried download mode that worked. I ran again the ICS leak exe file and it ran smoothly and I am again in HONH ICS leak. Rooted again with option 2.
My question is what did I done wrong?
Please suggest me what to do?
I want to go back to cm9!

You can't flash the img files without using the Korean KDZ. I did the same thing when I was on the ICS leak and got the same errors as you did.
You need to get the Korean KDZ ROM installed and follow ALL of the steps in Post 1. You'll end up with a rooted V10f that you'll be able to put CWM on and ultimately CM9.
And make sure you rename the Korean KDZ to "V10f_00.kdz" in order to get it to fully flash.
What are .kdz files, like what's in them?
Would it be possible to create one of them, with a rooted (but otherwise) stock phone's files?

After long frustration I was able to get control of my p930. The whole stroy for the benefit of others;
Installed ICS leak exe on rooted bell p930. Smooth transition. Rooted with (viperMOD_PrimeTime_v4.6 - using option #2). Using "adb shell" commands copied all original image files. Stuck at fast boot with error messages. Went into download mode and ran unbrick method to install "V10f_00.kdz". Program never went beyond 4% but p930 rebooted and korean rom started. After making it to talk in English and putting it pc and debug modes, rooted it with SOC. Again using "adb shell" commands copied original image files once again. p930 rebooted in original bell stock GB 2.3.5. Rooted again with SOC and install CWM. Now you got your p930 again in your control. Restored backup using CWM.

ODIN is to be use on standard updates on stock ROM. Normally you can get it through www.sammobile.com/firmware/
Root ROM like CM9 by Arco and others variation such as Paranoid Android by Doomsday94 must be on rooted phone. This link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1317394) will helps you how to root. I suggest you read through these steps.

Anything on a computer has full access to android devices. So odin and other apps like that for computers will be able to do anything to your device if it reqiures download mode. Download mode is basicly rhe first piece of already rooted (you could say) equiptment on a phone that anyone could access.

Odin does not need root. It's a standard software from Samsung to updates/upgrade/downgrade stock ROM or even flash baseband (upgrade/downgrade). But in order to use ODIN, your phone must be on download mode.
I hope this is simple enough for you to try. Again, please read my first post comments.

I've been trying to figure out what you really mean but I really don't understand.
In one way or another, you will be needing both root and CWM if you're to use your phone to the fullest. I strongly suggest to do the two things.
i suppose your question was "do you need root before flashing CWM with ODIN?"
i think you can flash it (CWM recovery) without rooting, but on the other hand, CWM might need root access before it can work on your phone.

I think what this guy meant was: If I'm not rooted, but can flash CWM using ODIN, what's the purpose of rooting?
Assuming I translated his question correctly, here's my answer :
Flashing a recovery (RZR, CWM) or a ROM (BC2, Kez, BN, ArcoICS) is like installing Windows 7 on a PC: You don't need to know the password of the Administrator account of the previous OS; just boot the Setup DVD, and it has full unfettered access to the whole PC.
Rooting a phone is unlocking its capability. It's like resetting the administrator password of a PC, so that you can install things on it.

Short answer: no. its not a problem. You can root your phone with cwm installed. It wont affect anything. And if you want root then just search it up.
Secondly, about CM10.1, its still in alpha.(bugs like that are always probable) Dont report it here. Report it in the CM10 thread. Its bound to get noticed more there and fixed quicker there.
That's right, I'm the premium potaytoman and i seek the TROOOOOF! Problem?

Hey guys. This is my first post. Ive been reading the site for years and decided to make an account because i needed some advice. I can usually come here and find what i need which is the case but the info i cant get to work properly. I have found other threads about this but the programs or instructions to get the phone to root do not work. Either the program says its finished and the phone is rooted.. but its not. Other programs simply wont root. SuperOneClick errors at start however i am sure if it doesn't root 2.3.4 that it wont root 4.0.4 so i haven't been to worried about SuperOneClick. I read one forum that mentioned to download and make a folder for Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v15. I ran this program and it said it was successful however the phone still doesn't have root. I also tried a program that ran a "runme.bat" file that also said it was successful however the phone still has no root. I found a rootxperia.zip file when installed via CWM said it installed but again, still no root. This is verified in all cases by trying to open busybox with a message that it cant gain root and also with the rootchecker app. My phone is unlocked as you may already know cause i am on 4.0.4 with FXP 2.6.32.9 kernel , 9-20121108-UNOFFICIAL-zeusc Cyanogen 9.
I hope thats more than enough info. and i am trying to achieve the best in CM9. Kernel and Mod. If im not using the the best please point me in the right direction. With all the info it was quite easy to get confused. This is the only combination i found to get CM9 working with WIFI. (please no wifi questions. i tried for days to get it to work. it didnt. then when i reinstalled the kernel and mod at a later date.. it just worked. :-\ )

Try installing rom again then the root xperia zip right after.

"I found a rootxperia.zip file when installed via CWM said it installed but again, still no root."
Thanks. Although i tried that and it didnt work. Like i mentioned in my original post.
I am going to re install the mod then install the update exactly after the mod installs.
After clearing all the info in cwm and reinstalling the mod.. then installing the rootxperia.zip file.. i am still not rooted.. so this triple check still shows i have no root.

You cant root 2.3.4 R800x firmware you must downgrade to 2.3.3 with flashtool. Or unlock your bootloader and flash a custom kernel that enables su automatically. Rootxperia zip only works for 2.3.3 and below.

Hi, I was fed up with my stock, slow, German 855 and wanted to root and flash CloudyG3 2.3.
First I tried Purple Drake lite but it aborted after the phone rebooted. Then I tried LG One Click Root 1.3 and this seemed to work.
Next on my list was flashing a recovery. I followed this: [RECOVERY][TWRP][D855] TeamWin Recovery with modem support and flashed the .img via flashify.
Now the phone does not boot. It says "Secure bootig error. Cause: Boot certification verify." after that the screen turns off and the notification LED flashes red and blue. I tried factory reset but I end up at the same error message.
I started panic googling and was about to try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59970974&postcount=6 but because OP had a slightly different problem and I don't want to make it any worst, I thought I ask for verification first.
What did I do wrong? I stuck to tutorials from the FAQ (apart from one click root which seemed to work). Am I supposed to flash stock firmware via ADP download mode now?
Thanks!

@CutterSlade001, seems like you are already rooted. Did you try pulling out the battery and then powering on again? Once you are sure you are rooted, you can try using various methods available on XDA or try searching AutoRec on the play store for installing twrp. It's meant for rooted lollipop devices. Hope this helps.

Yes pulling the battery does nothing but to give me the ability to look at the error again.
I get that i am supposed to install twrp. But how to safely make the phone operational again?
Or can I only use ADB at hte moment? Yes rooting worked.
Thanks for your hint at AutoRec I will try that once the phone works again.

I presume you can get into download mode? If you can use flashtool to go back to stock then root your device then use Autorec.
Download mode seems to work. Slowly downloading factory image now...
So rooting via one click was not the problem? Not using Autorec was?
I will follow this then after factory flash and reset and root via oneclick?
Thanks a lot for your help! I got it working again.
But now I am back to KitKat and Autorec requires Lollipop. OTA says there is no update and I got all sorts of junk on the phone from other carriers.
Is there a factory Lollipop image I missed?

@CutterSlade001 seems like you got hold of a kk firmware file instead of lp. You should be able to the appropriate lollipop version for your phone model. After that, just flash once again and then use one click root plus recovery options available in XDA.

Thanks for all your Help! I did that and it worked! I only found Lollipop .kdz files so I used the 2014 flash tool. After that, everything worked as expected. I am now running CloudyG3 2.3 and am Happy so far. But I did a clean install with only the bare minimum of apps for now and the stock firmware ran smooth for a few weeks also. Always buy the version with 3 GB RAM instead of the one with 2 GB RAM and a "free" LG G Watch.
