EMail app that can sync calendar && contacts ? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Hello mates!
I am looking for an email client that is able to: work well with gmail and exchange, and that is able to sync gmail calendar && contacts as well as exchange calendar && contatcs
any ideas?
Thanks for your thoutghs
UPDATE:
I found (via 1mobile and/or blackmart) this free email client named EMoze, it does let you manage gmail && exchange along with calendars and contacts.
Personally, i dont like the look and feel much, but hell! its free and gets stuff done, so it easily gets 4 starts.
If you guys know any other client, i would like to know!

Realistically, I separate Exchange from everything else, as Exchange = Business stuff. I have used Touchdown for Exchange going way back with great success. but it only works with Exchange.
For anything else, I use K-9 Mail and for Gmail the Gmail app.
Yes they are not combined, but I really don't want them as I like to keep the different worlds different. You can use K-9 for gmail aco****s which I do, but for my primary device linked gmail account I just keep that in the gmail account.

Hey there @krelvinaz !
thanks for your thoughts, indeed K-9/[email protected] is way up there in some reviews i found online, ill see if i give touchdown a shot later on; thanks for posting mate! :highfive:

Have you tried Replicon for the same. If not I would like you to give it a try so as to know the difference and the purpose of the same in managing the tasks as well as syncing with the stuffs that you have mentioned. Give it a try, I am sure it will work out good enough for you.

Enhanced Email can do all your email. You can customize the colour for each account and create your own theme. I have been using for several years.

Looking for advice on HTC Sync, Outlook 2003 & Google Calendar

Hi all.
I'm looking for a little advice.
I currently use Outlook 2003 at work along side HTC Sync (HS) to sync my calendar entries to my Desire.
Is it possible to sync (only) the HS entries on my phone to a specific Google calendar? Ideally I'd like to sync the HS items into an online Google calendar just for work so I can see it online when I don't have my phone.
Happy to use an app if that's the only way...
By the way I can't use the Google Sync app for a couple of reasons; my company regards it as a security risk and it doesn't allow you to select the specific google calendar that you sync to - at least not as far as I know.
Thanks in advance.
Setting => Account & Sync => Add An Gmail Account => Sync Calendar
if u can't use this , there is a plugin for outlook that allows u to sync your outlook calendar & contacts , with Your Google Calendar & contacts ( if that's of any help ) , it's quite easy to find if u google it ...

Thanks Skywalker1726, but that's not quite what I meant.
My fault should have been clearer. I already have my phone set up for my google account but I have several calendars in that account.
As far as I can see I can't select a particular calendar to sync my Outlook items to. It looks like only Google calendar items can be changed.
I don't suppose you know the name of the outlook plugin? I tried googling for it and came across way too many dead beat apps.
Just to repeat I'm looking for a way (or a phone app) that allows my to select a specific google calendar for the items I have synced to my phone using HTC Sync.
Here is the link , Hope that helps !
Quite good but not quite right...

Thanks for the link and the suggestion.
unfortunately, it's "too similar" to the Google Sync tool and therefore my company think it's a security threat (I know there are worse things out there but go figure )
I suspect that I need something that works on my phone and allows me to select different calendars to sync back to.
Bump - any suggestions...?
Any suggestions?

If I'm understanding correctly you want your Outlook calendar to be synced "to the cloud" (in this case Google) which you can then access from your phone (or online when you don't have your phone).
I had a look and can't find any apps that will copy your phone calendar to a Google calendar. As you are using Outlook 2003 and can't use Google sync your options are a bit limited.
If your company uses Microsoft Exchange then you should already have remote access to your email / calendar on the web and you can also connect your Desire to this using the built in HTC calendar app. Your IT person should be able to get you set up fairly easily.
The only other solution I know of is to use a third party sync program - outlook 2003 doesn't support saving calendars in ical format (which you could have used as a manual workaround).
Sorry not to be more help...
Fair enough. Thanks for trying. Unfortunately my company are quite backward about their use if IT so pretty much any sync app or Exchange integration is out.

I am using gSyncIt. Not free, but it does the job between Google and Outlook. A lot of option to customize the sync, including several calendars.
Not sure what method it uses to sync, so maybe not working for you. But I know my company IT is as well in "stone age" and blocks nearly everything. But gSyncIt works.

looking for an exchange mail app

Hi,
I have already tested few mail app ( the stock one, the message 1.0.0024 coming from HTC I think and touchdown)
I am looking for a free app which would be able to :
* retrieve mail from an exchange server, Touchdown and message are good . The stock app give me error message half of the time.
* set an automatic synchronisation on the inbox and on a selected lists of subfolder. Touchdown is ggod for that
* handle the inbox tree in a non totally stupid way ( stock app is ordering by name !!! and I can't figure out the order from message 1.0.0024 ... maybe by date of creation or depending on the age of the captain). Touchdown is good for that
* display correctly the html mail with array ( only touchdown does it even if it doesn't allow to reply to nice html mail .... it will put the mail in attachment !!)
* be quick. Touchdown is extremely slow. Maybe it has to do with the lag of the SGSbut it's definitely slower than the 2 other app ( but better looking)
* nice to have : handle also different mail account like hotmail
For the moment, Touchdown is the best choice but I can use everyday a mail app which can take 20 sec to open a mail and an other 20 to delete it.
Any other idea ?
Thanks
try k-9 mail
Thanks for your post ... it makes me try one more time to setup K9 with exchange
And it seems to work.
At least I have some mail and part of my folder.
will check out their wiki to see how to configure the folder. It seems quite complicated but quite flexible.
For information I had a wrong webdav patch before
Ok so I sepnt at least an hour on the wiki and I can;t find why I can't see any subfolder !
I can see the inbox, the sent item, the contact, the calendar, the spam ... but no subfolder onf the inbox
Any idea ??
Thanks
i just read a bunch of reviews on it but no real "how-to", I'm buying my Samsung Vibrant tomorrow and I plan to get this app so I'll play around with it and see if I can get it setup right
Isnt K9 taking too much space and that too on the internal mem. needs an sd storage properties for mails/data.
Is there an app which does so.

Hi!
I would recommend Improved Email by mtwebster, I do believe it will be to your satisfaction, works with all kind of email, with it you could also accept/decline meeting invites from exchange, been using it for some time now and I'm very happy with it.
All other email apps I tried had problem with at least on of the account types; pop3, imap, gmail or exchange but not this one.

I am testing as well... i want to access company mails mainly (ok, contacts and calendar would be great too, but it's not essential) and three imap accounts. What i have tried so far:
- stock: works, but forces me to enter a security code (triggered from exchange server admin). Besides that, the stock app doesn't have any settings to change preferences on imap servers (folder location, etc.), therefore a no-go.
- k-9: i am using k-9 mail for all my imap accounts, works like a charm, i can point to the correct folders (for sent mails, spam, etc.), but i can't get exchange to work, although i tried various options from their wiki.
- touchdown: i tried this app as well, works very well. As i am using exchange 2007, it shows only new and unread mail, no old mail. Besides that and the fact that it seems to be rather slow (and expensive for this poor performance), it would be my first choice.
Any other suggestions (or hints, how to get k-9 exchange work or touchdown faster) would be really appreciated.
All the best,
ww
P.S. i9000 froyo jpo.
I am using moxier mail. A bit expensive bit does the job. I mainly bought it to have access to my company GAL. It syncs mails, calendar, contacts and tasks but not notes.

Is Moxier mail synching contacts with pictures or without? I think, i will give it a try although there is no demo version... but i have 24 hours to test it

I tried improved email. It's pretty good except that the email I sent via it is in 1 long line when viewed in the outlook client.
I don't know what you are doing but the stock email app has none of the problems you describe with outlook.
- I have never had an error downloading a message. I use Push for delivery. (other options have battery drain issues), so you don't have to "schedule" a sync since it is always in sync
- Messages are sorted in recieved order for me
- Images in HTML emails I have no issue with
In short - I think the stock email app works perfect with outlook, in fact it is better than the Microsoft Outlook mobile I used to have in WM 6.5.

For my country, no version is available - beta versions seem to be very buggy. I am testing moxier right now - looks quite nice for the first hours...
Okay, it is just for exchange, but it is working fast and almost without any errors - for all other mail accounts i am still using k-9.
Allt the best,

You forgot the new security settings (which means, if your exchange admin turns on the "use a pin to secure your phone" feature). After i tried the stock mail app of froyo, i had to turn pin code on screen lock on. Besides that, the system never managed to sync more than 100 contacts - therefore the stock app personally is a no-go.

Dunno why but for some reasons, the stock email app will FC when opening certain emails, especially those with alot of frames.
On my side I use touchdown (and old version that i "found" ;-) on the net) because I need to have access to the GAL.
Had no issue with it except that it is slow.
If the stock mail app would have supported GAL i would not really had looked other mail app.
Doing so, if a free app would support GAL i would switch!

[Q] Alternative to Gmail app

Is there a good alternative to the Gmail app? I need support for threaded view, and must be able to view messages when offline.
I have my personal Gmail account synced to the Gmail app, but I also want to see my company email (which uses Gmail as a back end) in an app. Don't want to mix business with private emails though.
At the moment I access company mail through the browser interface which isn't optimal.
Thanks!

Doesn't support threaded view.
U can use the default exchange mail app. Just setup as IMAP account.
Have tried a lot of different mail clients, but ended up using K9.
K9 do not have the most sexy GUI and I hate the icon even I know why devs keep on to it ... but honestly ... come on a head of a robot dog LOL
It have some smal bugs, but all together the best mail client I have tried until now.
I actually likes it so much that I contributed with a Danish translation.
BTW its open source and its possible to download latest version from http://code.google.com for free
Best mail client is Maildroid:

Thanks, have tried it and it's not bad. The threaded view is a bit cumbersome though, it groups messages correctly, but you need to exit each message to view the next instead of just scrolling down. Will keep it though.
Wish I could duplicate the Gmail app actually, or even better port the Mail app from iOS.

Why don you use default samsung email? It can be set as pop3 or imap. Can create multiple account on it.
Why don't you use Gmail?
If you have two Gmail accounts just add them both to your phone. Your mail won't mix, you'll just have to select the account you'll use in the upper left corner.
Or you can use the default Samsung app like anlimdy22 suggested.

Honestly, couldn't get that to work - just forced closed time and time again, and when it did work it couldn't verify the settings (the very same ones that K-9, Maildroid and the Gmail app could). Better apps are usually available externally

You're right, I assumed that it would mix emails from both account but it actually works well. Can't say I think the system to switch between accounts is the smoothest possible, but usage-wise it's still the best experience I've found. Thanks.

Yes, K-9 is powerful and feature-rich but I just prefer the Gmail app. The threaded view alone is worth it. Each to their own though!

Turn off word suggestion in Swype, it will help you to edit mail in default email app.
On the subject, the stock GMail app is the worst client I've ever seen. No multi touch is a PITA. The stock email app is good, still not the very best out there. Tried almost all the clients, Maildroid and all, yet to find one which suits my need, K9 was good, maybe I've to try it again.
Its really unbelievable that the client in iOS I used 3 years back was way better than all of these in Android!!!

Actually, I'd say the iOS Mail app is still better - where better, for me, means easier to use. Swipe-to-delete alone makes it a winner.
Yes, that's correct. Simplicity of using is way beyond everything.
Anyway started using K9 again, nice, but I couldn't get the idea of getting 'Message Sent' confirmation/notification! I guess it was present before or am I missing something...!

Which email app you use that'll work with Gmail, Exchange and Android Wear?

I use Gmail and GCalendar - Gmail works great in Moto360 (reply, delete, etc). GCalendar works great in Moto360.
I also use Exchange with Office 365 for work - I use Samsung email app, which work great in my Note 3, but I cannot see the contents of the email in the watch nor reply, delete, etc. Exchange calendar becomes part of Samsung Calendar, which also work with Google Calendar and shows up in Android Wear.
So which email app do you use that work for both of them?
I want the replacement app to:
1). Gmail: can star, move to folder, etc.
2). Exchange: can flag, move to folder, etc.
3). Both can view the contents of the email and act upon it (reply, delete)
4). Calendar on Google and Exchange work
Maybe it's a tall order, but trying to see if there is a solution out thre.
I have Outlook/Exchange for school as well as Gmail for personal use. Gmail works great and Outlook mostly works as well but I can't delete emails for that account from the watch. I'd definitely be interested in an app that could aggregate both accounts into one as long as I can delete messages from the watch itself.
I use Nine - Exchange ActiveSync. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ninefolders.hd3&hl=en
It's a paid app(15 day trial) and I feel it is worth it for the android wear support. It can Delete, Reply ,Flag , and mark as read. (Can't move) Being able to delete an email from my watch like I do with gmail has been great.

Calendar support is good for me. I also can accept and decline meeting requests. This is the first time I have use a 3rd party app for my work email account. I have always used the stock email on Samsung, HTC, and Nexus devices
This seems to do everything I need and has the android wear support. Also the Mailbox search from Nine email is great. It searched my mail on the server very fast.

Battery for the watch? ive been able to use my watch for a single day no problem. Receiving texts, emails, weather updates.
I have my email set to sync every 15mins.
Dont do too much responding with my watch, as its mostly to glance at if its something i need to address. Right now its off the charger since 630am and its not 4:40pm with 70% battery left
so either its me that im not using the watch as much as i should or i have a gem in regards to battery lol

Battery for phone.
I don't use the watch too much for interaction (reply, etc.), but I do want to read so I know which work email I can..ahem.. ignore or delete.
If your (AOSP) phone supports it you can download the default android mail client from here http://d-h.st/K8w and exchange2.apk from https://paranoidandroid.atlassian.net/secure/attachment/11513/Exchange2Google.apk. Google added it to the play store but only for AOSP phones.
If it's for a different phone you might have to remove the default Email2.apk and Exchange2.apk from your system folder and replace it with the ones above using root.
It took some work but I have full wear read/reply for my exchange account.

Hmm.. I dont believe I've run into that issue. I have 4 different accts setup (1 actually forwarding to the other cause its school email).
I have the pro, they give it to you for free if you share the app with like 5 people or something
maybe submitting a bug to them about it?

maybe submitting a bug to them about it?

If your (AOSP) phone supports it you can download the default android mail client from here http://d-h.st/K8w and exchange2.apk from https://paranoidandroid.atlassian.net/secure/attachment/11513/Exchange2Google.apk. Google added it to the play store but only for AOSP phones.
If it's for a different phone you might have to remove the default Email2.apk and Exchange2.apk from your system folder and replace it with the ones above using root.
It took some work but I have full wear read/reply for my exchange account.

I've been told that this client wasn't updated for Lollipop. Are you or others on lollipop still using this solution, or have you all switched to Nine?
I'm using Nine. Most best email client for Android. It works on Moto 360 as well.

Bypassing Exchange Security?

Besides an Xposed mod, which we can't do yet, is there another way to bypass it? Maybe even a different app to setup the exchange account for email? IDK. I hate the restrictions tho lol.

Is this a corporate account? If so I recommend accepting the restrictions and security. If it's your personal account then I know there was an app I used on my S7 that could bypass it I just can't remember the name (not helpful I know).
There's an app called Nine that can apply the security policy at the app level instead of the entire device. It's a paid app and somewhat expensive, I've been using it for years and it works really well.

The app Mailwise does what you are looking for, and it's not too bad of a mail app, either.
I had the same issue, our IT people required remote wipe ability, and obscenely long password requirements just to unlock the screen.

I've been using Nine since my company moved us to a hosted exchange. Don't remember how much it cost me, but definitely worth looking into.
I second the usage of mailwise. it's a pretty good mail application generally speaking..
Mailwise for me too. http://mail-wise.com/faq/#bypass
Oh man, I'm in the same boat. The Exchange security settings for one of my client email accounts is obnoxious. If I enable the account on my phone it will no longer let me use a swipe pattern or pin to unlock the phone. It only lets me use a password. The password also has to have at least four digits, one #, and at least one capital letter. It's absolutely ridiculous. Fingerprint still works, at least. But that's annoying when my phone is on my desk.
So I don't even bother enabling that exchange account on my phone. Instead, I discovered Newton Mail (play store link) a few months back. This has become my go-to email/calendar solution on both my phone and new Windows 10 machine. It's a fantastic email/calendar app that's extremely fast and has material design for Android and fluent design for Windows 10, so it flows really well with both platforms.
The only downside to this is I can't rely on Google calendar on my phone since it won't show meetings/reminders for this Exchange account, since I refuse to enable it within the system. But I've learned to use the calendar built into Newton Mail, which is actually pretty excellent. It even works with the new Google widget for the Pixel 2/2 XL. The widget updates with the upcoming event just like it would with Google Calendar. And clicking the event opens up that specific event in Newton.
I highly recommend giving Newton a try. Especially if you also use a Windows 10 machine.
Thanks for the replies everyone! I'll try some of these suggestions, much appreciated! For the users that have nine, does the calendar show in Google calendar or do you have to go into that app to see it?

Nine is just an email client (like Newton Mail). It doesn't communicate with the Google Calendar app on your phone. It has its own calendar baked in.

Not true. All meetings setup on the corporate side get thrown in to my Google calendar. I actually had to turn off notifications from Nine because I was getting double from Google Calendar.

Interesting! I may have to look into using this myself, then.
Confirmed that nine also syncs the calendar with Google calendar. I've been using it for years. Best exchange app out there for me

Just installed Nine to handle my exchange account. It immediately started syncing to the Google calendar. So happy to be able to use Google Calendar again, now that I can truly see all my events in it.
Nine is the best.
If it is just for the ActiveSync policies, the Exchained app can bypass those and let you keep using gmail.
any update on this guys?

so MAilwise does not work and has stopped developement, need an alternative
Nine Email works great by bring restriction to the app level instead of the device level but it is 15$ , a bit more than I would want to spend
found Email app that works , but does not give notifications of the new emails in the notification bar
Email - Fast & Secure Mail - Apps on Google Play
No More Spam. No More Email Stress. Manage Multiple Accounts. Switch Today
play.google.com
Blue mail works well for fre ewith notifications and no security hurdle
Email Blue Mail - Calendar - Apps on Google Play
Mail support for all email accounts: IMAP, ActiveSync, EWS, POP3
play.google.com
staying with this unless things change..
Any other alternatives? Android 10 here
