[q] download mode - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello to all the xda pros had recently bought an s3 so happy that i had finally got it and wasted no time in rooting using causal worked great then i made the biggest mistake ever i didn't flash a recovery or different rom. Could not choose to many new and cool looking roms. Had got called in to work early and left my new phone at home another mistake. My lovely wife found it and seen att send a update notification thinking this is what i wanted since it was all i could talk about she took the 4.3 update!!! I cant really blame her because she knows nothing about rooting or flashing roms she thought she was helping but now am left with a messy slow laggy phone. I tried to reroot using casual again and it looked like it was working but after it reboot it was running even slower in "safe mode" and supersu says that i have to reroot manually after 4.3. Have tried to root via odin but phone wont go in to download mode no matter how many time i try it always ends up booting in to "safe mode" the only thing i am doing in adding to the custom binary download counter am up to 3 and the warrant counter is at 1. Any advice from the pros would love nothing more to return to custom rom tw 4.3 is acting alot like ios 7.

Then do you have a USB JIG, I hear that will force you're phone into download mode. Do some research on it.

To disable Safe Mode
1. Press and hold the Power button
2. Select Restart
3. Select OK
Then if you in normal mode try get to download mode. Volume down + Home Button and Power button. Hold all anthill you see Warning screen then press Volume Up.
If Safe Mode continues to display on the Home Screen after restarting the device and a Factory Reset does not resolve the problem, it may be due to a faulty Home button which would be considered damaged hardware.

If other method not gone work you can try to get off safe mode by :
Go to Settings
1.Select Apps->All (Look for ALL on top menu or swipe to the right to get to ALL)
2.Select Google Services Framework and tap Clear Data.
3.Turn off (shut down) your phone and turn it back on.
See if the phone will be out of Safe Mode.
I don't think you can get to download mode longest you are in safe mode.

Cannot Access Download Mode

Hey there guys- pretty sure this isn't already posted, but apologies if it is.
Anyway, I bought a used NoteII recently, and there seems to be some weird stuff going on. I recently tried accessing download mode, but each time I do I get kicked into the stock recovery. (There's a little android on it's back with a red triangle with an exclamation mark on it if that helps)
I've also tried using Kies to restore, but after using Firmware Upgrade and Initialization, it says that my device doesn't support that.
Any help is appreciated!

Nope. Nothing. Still get the Stock Recovery menu.
All I want to do it revert back to stock.
From the stock recovery menu, I can apply an update.zip; could I just flash a stock zip?
If you have an external sd card, yes.

You might also try the tool found in this thread. It will get you back to stock and can help you move ahead with rooting etc when you decide to again.

[Partially solved][Q] GT-N7100 download mode problem

Hello,
It's been a while since I last stepped foot in the xda forums as I've been happy with stock, however when kies pushed the 4.3 update to my Note 2 I've started having problems - my phone will not sleep. After 2 min timeout the display turns off and immediately turns itself on again. It then goes into a loop where it turns off and on again every second until I unlock it. This is playing havoc with my battery life (I only get about 6 hours from full charge now). I've tried disabling any setting that might cause this (like smart stay etc.), I downloaded wakelockdetector (doesn't detect anything), I've tested my sensors and sleep mode with #*0*# (sleep mode has the same problem here), and I've done multiple factory/hard resets (x5).
I want to go back to 4.1.2 because this problem only started happening with 4.3 except now I have a different problem - I can't get download mode to work so I can't flash any recovery/firmware. I get the download mode screen up via the usual 3-key method, however once I'm there it seems to disable my volume keys because they stop working. I can get into recovery mode without any problems and the volume keys work fine there, but once it loads up the download mode screen and prompts me to press vol up to start or vol down to cancel, no matter what I press nothing happens. I have to hold down the power key to reboot.
Does anyone have any idea why my Note 2 is so broken?
Would really appreciate some expert help here. Thanks in advance.
Other stuff I've tried: I've tried with and without my SDcard. I've tried formatting my SDcard. I've tried taking my battery out for 5 mins and then go straight to download mode, but still my vol keys won't work.
I got kies to do a firmware reinitialisation which downloaded 4.3 again and flashed my phone a second time but still the problem persists.
I guess I have no choice but to put my hope in Samsung support. It's a real kick in the teeth that the nearest official support centre is an hour and a half away from me. I think this will be the last Samsung product I buy.

How?
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but with 4.3 comes with knox and a locked bootloader. I can't load philz or twrp zip from recovery because it errors with an unsigned message and since I can't access download mode I can't use odin.
Shut down your phone. pull the battery out. connect your tether cable to the phone and USB to computer. start oden, put tar file in PDA box. don't change any other settings. Put your phone in download mode by pressing both up/down volume buttons (not Power) and insert the battery. once in download mode, click on Start on oden. As for the bloatware, you are going to get whatever apps that are in the tar file. I think Some of the bloat has been removed. Not sure what, but it seems most of it is still there. I think DriveSmart is gone

These don't appear to be the correct instructions for a N7100. Well, thanks for the bump anyway.
Hi!
Did you try to flash with mobile odin? It might be the solution if you can't access to download mode (which is weird by the way...)
I have same problem
i just flash new bootloader kitkat
"Bootloader If you have MJ5 or later bootloader then no need otherwise you have to apply Reboot and wifi Fix from post #3 above
You can get idea about current bootloader with info application
If You are not worried about warranty then I strongly recommend to flash Kitkat bootloader.
Here is Kitkat bootloader from N7100_ND3 "
and now my phone was on and it will stuck on samsung logo...
i m also not able to install stock rom
help me to downgrade 4.1 old bootloader.

Thank you!
Mobile odin worked. Got the pro version to thank Chainfire. Also managed to get root thanks to Kingo and I'll be donating to them as well.
Unfortunately even after flashing CM10 it hasn't fixed my sleep problem. Well, maybe I've got a hardware fault after all...funny that it coincided with the 4.3 update. I guess I've voided my warranty now but on the bright side I've finally ditched Samsung's bloatware and stock android. Here's hoping I can find a fix.

[Q] no download mode

My next door neighbor learned that I like to mess with things. He has brought me a Galaxy Note 2 and has asked me to install cynaogen on it. However it appears that this thing already has a custom rom on it. That being said I would like to start from scratch. Well from what I have read I need to download a stock rom and upload it with odin using the download menu. To access this I am suppose to power down the phone and then hold the power, volume down, and home button. However instead on the download mode this brings me to the recovery mode. So what can I do to access the download mode?

If you haven't wiped/factory reset the phone, most probably you can boot into the android system and perhaps access download mode from the power menu.Almost all roms have that feature under "reboot" options.Usually download mode always works ,never seen anyone saying download mode is not accessible it's usually the recovery that could not be accessed. How I access download mode I press vol down then home and then lastly i press power button.

When I press this button combination it brings to a factory mode. The writing is in Japanese or something of the sort.

That doesn't look like note II battery ,perhaps you should ask your neighbor which model is it? May be it's the Korean variant but that one should be still 3100 mah not 2800 mah and the stock samsung battery is black and grey not blue.Perhaps you shouldn't even try to do anything with it and just return it to him.
Even Samsung Logo is missing below the ear piece, perhaps some alien model.
I think it's a pirated version of the note lol. Probably chinese. If you could take a better photo I can interpret for you

Hey next time when you brick your phone just try flashing root file with odin (simple rooting procedure) this works for me all the time when i brick my phone and saves my time and data too.
Keep calm and stay rooted

All stock and locked but no recovery mode?

I have an HTC One M9, all stock, locked, and untampered with but I cannot boot into Recovery. I can boot into Download mode, and the Bootloader but when I try to go from the Bootloader to the Recovery menu it gives me the red triangle exclamation point and then does nothing. I've talked to Verizon no service and they just read from the screen, hold the vol button blah blah blah. Talked to best guy's geek squad and they had no clue what a Bootloader or Recovery mode were, so I'm here where I know the community is all about phones. Anyway I've tried factory resetting from the menu and going looking for Recovery I've tried with SD and SIM removed, I've tried with both removed before after and during a FR. Same result. I'm thinking either someone had installed spyware on the device or this app called Google Device Policy are doing me from accessing it? I'm trying right now to find out of somehow I have a Corp over stock return cause everything I've come across on that device policy app says it's used by Corps and the government for tracking device usage. It doesn't appear in any list I've been able to find for native apps installed on HTC or more specifically the M9. Hopefully here I won't get asked why I want to boot into Recovery, hahaha.
Well it seems this one even stumps the pros. At the minimum I thought someone would have heard of that Google Device Policy app and commented. Well tomorrow I'm contacting my insurance co and seeing if this would qualify as a defect and try to have it replaced. I mean I can't get locked out of my phone cause I'd have no way to reset it in order to get back into it. One last thing, I was able to select to disable that policy app but disabled or not I still have no recovery menu. And of course it's not one that can be uninstalled.
I've also considered that my soon to be ex may have placed a spy app on the device. From what I've read they can prevent the device being FR, I'm assuming to prevent themselves from being uninstalled. Some require root which my device says that it has not been, and she is not savvy enough on her own to accomplish. I can FR from the menu but I'm not sure this doesn't stimulate a FR or something crazy like that... Which again I think would require root... And around we go again. Hey crazy ex's while going thru divorce can make you a little noidded, which maybe I am but it still doesn't trump the fact that I have no recovery and there's this strange app on the phone I can see and maybe something I can't???

Thanks man, you are a lifesaver. I just updated my HTC One M8 to marshmallow and couldnt find the right combination to enter recovery. I tried everything and nothing worked until THIS!
i cannot believe how ridiculously difficult HTC made it do get into stock recovery.
I had SAME problem for hours!! trying to load the stupid stock recovery. i tried Labtofers instructions pressing all 3 buttons after selecting "recovery" in menu. then i tried Android revolution rom said press vol up then power. didn't work. (but they did say try other combinations). then tried vold down and power. it just got back to bootloader and download mode. . then I read this thread, and after hold power THEN CLICK VOL UP! did it. (tks guys). this instruction should be in ALL the recovery OP threads. so stupid HTC os sometimes. (... and I still can't xxxx install OTA update from phone, even though my new replacement phone is completely stock!)
OT (rant- My last M9 was s-off and rooted. i was hoping that i could update this new replacement phone to Marshmallow and stay stock for a while, but now its stuck on 2.9.xxx.xx firmware as the original system update 2.10.xxx.xx fails every time! and its a new phone! htc really need get their act together. This is my second M9, and my first M9 already had so many problems before also. rant over. sorry had to get that out. the how to get to stock recovery was just last straw today. peace)

Just a sidenote: It's explained in the FAQ of the ReadMe thread which is pinned at the top of the General and the Q&A section. So this thread is not the only place where the key combination gets mentioned.
