Hi Guys, let me express my gratitude beforehand for all the help that you have provided gratuitously to so many users so far. I happen to find myself in a delicate situation with my newly acquired(last week) HTC One X, that after a few days of use prompted me to install an update. I foolishly accepted and started the installation. After it rebooted it found itself in a bootloop - starting, vibrating for a second, displaying the Quietly Brilliant logo and then restarting again. I then began browsing on the XDA forum and researching on this particular problem. I started with the common troubleshooting steps : tried entering the recovery menu (power+vol down) and selecting "Recovery" - that didn't do anything differently-, then i tried a factory reset, same thing, then i tried and installed the RUU that i think is for my device(i'll post the name below) that ended up with what i thought was a successful process but ended up in the same bootloop after the restart.
At that point i read further and decided to root/unlock my device so i can try and install a custom ROM. Unlocked my device using the unlock token provided by HTC and then installed the clockwork recovery tool. After that i tried installing a couple of custom roms like ARHD31 which seemed like it was going to work(got through the configuration settings but after the restart this time was stuck at a HTC ONE logo ). I later read that for this to work you need a newer HBoot(mine is 1.12.0000). I then tried flasing an older rom with ICS(Renovate) that did not work either. I am not ruling out that i may be botching up somewhere in the process though, that's why i am seeking your help.
The RUU that i tried for my device is:
RUU_Endeavor_U_ICS_40_S_HTC_Europe_2.17.401.2_Radi o_2.1204.135.20_release_274900_signed.exe
My details for my device were as follows(also attached a picture):
****LOCKED**** (it now reads UNLOCKED or RELOCKED if i lock it to try the RUU)

Sorry for the long read but I'm hoping that you guys can help me with this, i even took it to a "specialized" repair service but they just ended up by draining my battery(recharging with script now).
Oke i will give it a try
Download this firmware
http://arhd.onedroid.net/db_mirror/Firmware/HTC/HTC_One_X/401/3.14.401.31.zip
1: Rename the file to firmware.zip and copy it to the fastboot folder
2: put the phone in fastboot usb mode/bootloader
3: enter these commands
Fastboot oem RebootRUU
Fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
(maybe needed a second time, watch the outcome of the flash on the pc)
4: reboot the bootloader and check if the bootloader changed from 1.12 to 1.39
After that we continue, or find another way to flash it back.

Hi Mr Hofs and thank you for taking the time to help me, when i run the commands i get the below:
Code:
c:\Fastboot>Fastboot oem RebootRUU

finished. total time: 0.001s
c:\Fastboot>Fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
sending 'zip' (12876 KB)... FAILED (unknown status code)

The "Fastboot devices" comand returns the SN of my device, however the "adb devices does not list anything". Also looking in device manager i can no longer see my device, could that have to do anything with it? should i reinstall the HTC drivers maybe?

no thats oke, in the bootloader you can only use fastboot commands. But try again but this time use :
Fastboot oem rebootRUU (watch the capitals)
it has worked this time! waiting at a HTC black screen now and after that i'll try the command to update the firmware.
LE: Should the phone take that long after the RebootRUU command? been sitting at the htc screen for 5 minutes now
Yes please
Edit :
Once its on 1.39 you keep the phone in the bootloader and execute this ruu.exe from the pc with admin rights (select with right mouse button and run as administrator)
http://www.androidruu.com/getdownlo...Radio_5.1204.162.29_release_302015_signed.exe
Once the phone hits that screen with the HTC logo you do the firmware flash command !
I'm beginning to think that it's stuck as it has been sitting at the black HTC screen for 10 minutes now. Also the back of the phone is quite warm (near the camera). Could it represent a hardware problem maybe?
Refresh.....edited my post. You have to flash the firmware when the phone is on that screen !

Sorry one of those PICNIC moments on my part ran the command, it's doing it now. Will let you know how i get on shortly.
LE : Does it need to reboot itself automatically after the bar has filled? looking at a full bar currently.
No reboot it please
Fastboot reboot bootloader
Or hold the power button and the volume - button to enter the bootloader again
Did the flash on the pc say OKEY ?
I have rebooted, the H-boot now reads 1.39.0000 i think that's what we wanted, but the Radio also changed to 5.1204.162.29. I am waiting now for the RUU to finish downloading.
Okey, that's cool. Well to give some background info on the meanwhile.... The XE variant you have seems to be a HTC developers phone. Hard and sometimes unable to officially update via HTC ota. This is a way that might work. If the ruu does not work we can always install a custom rom.
I also don't know when the ruu is flashed successfully and the phone boots again if it will find any further updates to android 4.2.2 sense 5. But that's a thing we will address later
problem solved
You sir are a genius and a blessing that has managed to explain the steps so well and with patience that i managed to bring my phone back to life just when i was about to give up. I cannot express my gratitude for the help that you have provided, if you ever find yourself in Romania please contact me via my email(sent you one on gmail) and i will happily meet with you and have some drinks!!
As far as the updates go i will never install one on this phone again, as i have just noticed when i was setting it up that there was a red warning saying that this is a test device and it will send feedback automatically to HTC and i cannot turn off that feature. Does that mean that it might be limited in some regards if it's a developers phone (maybe hardware or does not have all the features)?
Again cannot thank you enough! problem solved by this awesome man.:highfive:
Ah awesome news. Well if you ever want to go up to sense 5 just let me know
Cheers ! And have fun with the hox

Since you can go to hboot, that is good enough to check your CID.
Be in fastboot mode and type this :
fastboot getvar cid
Example here, mine is HTC__044

Hello ckpv5,
I have the same problem (My HTC Panache stuck on HTC Logo. When I Press
On + Volume Down, I go to HBoot). Please describe more what I should do?
I connect my HTC Panache (while it is on HBoot) to USB port of my computer,
but from Windows 7 Command Prompt I cannot go to (fastboot) directory. Why?
Do I need to install any software on my computer to do that?
Please help to get CID of my phone.
Thanks.

You are on wrong forum man, this is for One V.
Anyway.. why do you need to know your HTC Panache CID ? There are only two of them either Videotron or Mobilicity. Which is yours ?
Have you try the Factory Reset ? When you are on HBOOT, you should see FACTORY RESET menu I guess.
If you want to check your CID, firstly you must have the HTC USB driver installed on your PC and also fastboot files on your PC too. Without these two items, you can't do the fastboot getvar cid

Thanks ckpv5 for your respond.
My phone is HTC Panache from Mobilicity which I think is the same as MyTouch 4G of Videotron.
Its model under battery is written: PD15100.
Factory Reset does not do any action (phone hangs at the same menu and cannot do anything after that).
I need CID to make a Gold Card and install new stock android on my phone
by using MicroSD. I have tried different Stock android versions
of Panache & MyTouch 4G , but I always get wrong CID message.
I believe that I have installed HTS USB drivers (included in HTC Sync sowftware) for my HTC.
Where can I get the fastboot files for HTC to install it on Windows?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Attached is the fastboot.zip
Extract it to C:/
Connect your device in fastboot mode
When you go to HBOOT
Press power once, you will be in fastboot
The open a command prompt

Thank you.

Ya... DAVE_001 is your CID. If you ever need to run a RUU to revert your device to stock, you need RUU_Glacier_Gingerbread_S_DAVE_CA_2.09.1800.1_Radi o_12.55.60.25_26.09.04.26_M
And that is not the CID for making a GoldCard. You use a Goldcard tool to have the CID that will look something like this
1B534D303030303010B15A45800093F6
As this is not related to One V, anything further you need to know, send me PM.
Before I start, , I want to say that I have read other similar posts and not found an answer to my query.
First, I just wanted to thank you for the wonderful stuff you guys do on these forums. I have used your expertise for many previous issues that I have had in the past. I cherish my Androids a lot more now thanks to you guys. Now, onto the problem that I am currently having. I will try to make it short.
SHORT VERSION:
I need help to unroot the phone and I can't get the "correct" RUU to work.
LONG VERSION:
I rooted my phone and installed Android Revolution HD for ICS. After a while, I decided to upgrade to JB via CM10.
At first, the WiFi would start giving me problems, it would get stuck at "on and never going off" or "off and never turning on." So I remedied that by just restarting the One X which was fine. Then the screen started to act up. Whenever I restart my phone the screen would work just fine. I would put it down for a while, but whenever the screen goes off, it responds slower and slower until the display no longer turns on. However, the phone still works as if it was on via the touchscreen. I can still open apps, just as long as I can guess where to go.
This left me with two thoughts:
1.) The screen is not broken because on restarts, or before it blacks out completely, the screen is just fine. No dead pixels, no lines, no light bleeding to anything.
2.) The OS (I think) is not broken because it always responds to what I am doing.
Therefore I think there exists a problem between the hardware trying trying to communicate with the screen. So I want to return the phone back to the manufacturer.
I have looked on other forums and I am here to ask for help. I can't find a way to solve my problem.
When I try to unroot, I get stuck at the RUU portion. And I honestly think I am using the correct RUU. As you guys know, I need to put the phone back to its original everything to get a chance for the manufacturer to help me out.
So please! Help me with the unroot!
On a side note: the phone works perfect when it is charging AND with the screen on. Don't know why.
This is my phones info from the HBOOT screen:
HBOOT-0.94.0000
CPLD-None
MICROP-None
RADIO-1.1204.90.13
eMMC-bootmade: disabled
CPU-bootmode: disabled
HW Secure boot: enabled
MODEM PATH: OFF
Apr 11 2012, 02:27:11
CID: HTC___622
For those that are wondering, this is the RUU that I used.
Endeavor/RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_hTC_Asia_HK_1.26.708.2_Radio_1.1204.90.13_release_251215_signed.exe
Maybe that was the issue, I don't know. There are 4 HK (Hong Kong) RUUs if I'm not mistaken.
I look forward to your help and response!
Once again, thanks for all the helpful tips/tricks/flashes and roms.
Gratefully,
johnchiu
Oke are you familiar with the fastboot commands ?
Do these 2 commands with the phone in fastboot usb mode !
Fastboot getvar version-main
and
Fastboot oem readcid
To get the right info for the ruu you need !
Try this one:
http://htcruu.com/securekey.php?fil...Radio_2.1204.122.17_release_268338_signed.exe
Although, I thought the 2.17 was available, that one should install on your hboot.
You'll need to do:
fastboot oem lock
Then run the RUU as administrator (right click it).
So when I did the "fastboot oem lock" whenever I go back to the hboot, on top it says that my phone has been "***RELOCKED***"
I remember before I unlocked the phone it said ***LOCKED*** so if it now says ***RELOCKED*** and I want to ship it in for repairs...wouldn't that be a red flag that I tampered with the phone?
Also, I have SuperUser installed on the phone, how do I get rid of it? Because I think that looks awfully suspicious too haha.
I am downloading the RUU right now, hopefully it works, I will let you know how it goes. Thanks @BenPope
Your bootloader will always say that its been relocked after you unlocked it, can't do anything about that ! And the RUU will flash a stock rom, stock recovery and the stock boot.img back. So all traces of previous root is gone !
So what should I do to make my phone as close to it was first coming out of the box.
For example, I really want to get rid of SuperUser but I don't know how to.
How do I check if everything is stock? Etc.
Thanks again for your help!
Just run the ruu and everything is stock !!! Can't get closer to stock than that !
A ruu wipes the phone 100%
I tried it again...and it failed again. I don't know what to do.
Every RUU that I have tried to install so far all say:
ERROR [140]: BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR
How is it possible that every version fails? Please help!
Hmm do the fastboot commands i posted in the beginning of the thread, the cid and main version commands ..... See whats comes out ?
Sorry forgot to post them. These are the latest ones.

There is the bug ! You need at least a 2.17 based RUU ! But i dont where to find it at the moment
Are there no ways around it? I can't be the only person with this problem can I? I purchased this phone back in May 2012. So my phone was one of the original units sent out. Thanks for your rapid response and time.
Maybe there is one at the file factory but i dont have an account there

That's odd.
You have the European version-main and a Hong Kong CID.
You might want to look for a backup of a HK ROM to restore.
Hey guys , i need help here. I recently bought a ''second hand'' HTC ONE X and it was running fine. If you are rooted, than you have ,,super user" or "super su" app, enter app, and look around, you''ll find unroot (or something like that) press button, and i think that that's it, for bootloader you must use fastboot, tupe command i think that tha command is fastboot oem relock.
Also you can find nandroid backup for your cid.
Forgot, on what android version are you ? 4.1.1 or 4.2.2 ?
If you are on 4.1.1 use method with ruu.
And last i think you can't but someone else will tell you, in fastboot tupe fastboot getvar all, copy everything except imei and serial number, so someone can tell you what ruu can you use.
Hope i helped.
He doesn't need to unroot the custom rom because he can't update with that anyway. And root is no issue to update at all.
And dont relock !!! You can't restore a nand with a relocked bootloader

You have to download android sdk bundle (google) and go the platform tools folder, open a command prompt in that folder. Hold shift and click the right mouse button and select : open command window here. Then put the phone in the bootloader and press fastboot once. You see if all is correct in red text : fastboot usb.
Then enter the command in the command window on the pc and tell us what comes out

99.9% ROM match- it is 401.3, (I recorded mine in written notes as 401.2); BUT 0% radio match- I have 7.57.39.10.
My ROM 2.13.401.2/ my software- 2.26.401.3/ my radio: 7.57.39.10M- a combo of RUU 2.13's ROM & RUU 2.26's software & radio (OTA updated at some point perhaps?)
It looked as though it would work, BUT, I got:
HTC Android ROM Update Utility 1.0.3.2011
ERROR [140]: BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR
The ROM Update Utility cannot update your Android phone.
Please get the correct ROM Update Utility and try again
As software is 2.26.401.3 I tried: RUU_Marvel_S_HTC_Europe_2.26.401.3_Radio_47.23e.35.3038H_7.57.39.10M_release_261695_signed.exe.
0% ROM match but 100% match of software id & 100% radio match
With this:
1) Tried to flash exe direct. Got: "ERROR [140]: BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR".
2) Retried to flash RUU after ripping recovery.img from ROM.zip & placed in folder with the adb files. Got: Same result.
3) I tried microSD card flash with ROM.zip, (BL UNlocked) taken from RUU_Marvel_S_2.26........route. Got "Error: Main Version is older!"
Tried PG76IMG from [ROM][HTC][WILDFIRE S A510e][EUROPE][2.3.5][PG76IMG.ZIP] To Flash From Hboot, "Installation aborted; bad!"- multiple downloads, multiple tries- file is 152 MB & I keep getting 148 MB (151,553KB).
I also tried to flash PG76IMG_Marvel_HTC_Europe_2.13.401.2_Radio_47.23a.35.3035H_7.53.39.03M_release_225747_signed.zip from shipped-roms
[100% ROM match & 0% radio] via SD card.
Got it wrong!! At least all it did was wipe CWM & did not full-brick! So now my Recovery was back to default: Android system recovery <3e> but I could un-unlock/ re-lock BL & put CWM back, no probs.
So I read multiple threads/ sites over the past week on both "Error 140" & "Main version is older", & can not find an answer. They are mostly either other-Model related or unresolved amongst other things.
,
I decided to quit while I'm ahead [just Slash screen with UN/RE lockable BL & able to CWM] & post this in hope of knowledgeable assistance. Surely, this IS self-fixable? What am I doing/ not doing?
My options, as far as I can tell, from shipped-roms.com are:
RUU_Marvel_S_HTC_Europe_2.13.401.3_Radio_47.23c.35.3037_7.54.39.28M_release_236989_signed.exe OR.......
Marvel_S_HTC_Europe_2.13.401.3_Radio_47.23c.35.3037_7.54.39.28M_release_236989_signed_ROM.zip
Both are 99.9% ROM match- they are 401.3, I recorded mine as 401.2; BUT 0% radio match- I have 7.57.39.10.
Can not see it being RUU_Marvel_S_HTC_Europe_2.26.401.3_Radio_47.23e.35.3038H_7.57.39.10M_release_261695_signed.exe?
Q; (1) Why RUU/ROM.zips are not flashing/ which & version to use??
Q: (2) Do I need to downgrade something? If so what & how?
Q. (3) Any thoughts, anyone anything?

I was looking for an exact RUU.exe for my ROM: 2.13.401.2 NOT .3 as offered by shipped-roms & others.
After trawling Google I found this: tsar3000.com/Joomla. Clicked downloads tab along the top, chose HTC & scanned down the list. I picked #42 (HTC WildeFire S A510E / A510c / MetroPCS - Marvel / C Stock Roms)
Looking down it I found RUU_Marvel_S_HTC_Europe_2.13.401.2_Radio_47.23a.35.3035H_7.53.39.03M: an EXACT RUU.exe match for my ROM.
<clicked RUU link> took me to a file share website: fileom.com.
Created account, & after verifying by clicking link & email, downloaded RUU.
Then:
1) RELOCKED BootLoader- cmd prompt & typed: fastboot oem lock
The tried a straight RUU.exe flash. This returned the ERROR 140: BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR etc.
2)Started RUU; went NO FURTHER.
Clicked START on PC. Searched for %temp% folder. Found the two created when RUU is run.
To do this- call up the temp folder. Kill the RUU. Restart the RUU.
Keep doing this and you begin to notice 2 folders will appear when RUU is started & disappear when RUU is stopped.
Checked both to find a .zip called "ROM.zip".
Took it to a new folder so it did not interfere with anything. Unzipped it.
Copied 3 of the revealed files to the \Android folder (my folder containing my ROOTing files- adb/ BootLoader unlock file from HTC/ etc.)
The 3 are recovery.img, boot.img & system.img
Then:
RE-UnLocked BootLoader- opened cmd prompt & typed cd \Android; as my HTCdev Unlock file was still in \Android
Then typed fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin.
Agreed the pop-up on the handset. It booted itself to the Splash screen. I disconnected USB & pulled/ replaced battery.
Booted into HBOOT>Fastboot & connected USB
I proceeded to flash the 3 .img files by typing in cmd prompt:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
Just for good measure I relocked the BootLoader, as I knew it would restart the phone in Normal boot without me having to interfear with the handset.
I typed: fastboot oem lock in cmd prompt
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT????
Phone reboots
Black screen with double arrows in circle, stays for 30 secs, then...
White htc screen as before EXCEPT THIS TIME I got "quietly brilliant" written underneath & do-di-do-do-do-do jingle.
Phone paused on "quietly brilliant" screen for one-and-a-half minutes......then......the standard phone set-up screens & ON!!!!!!!
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Handset is working, has all the apps etc as before. The only change is the "about phone" section of settings. It is a bit more basic with the info it yeilds, as software is older than what I had.
I suppose this will change as OTA updates come in. I can live with that for now!!
PHONE IS RESTORED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THANK YOU!
Yes, so am I. Just really really pleased that I could fix this & not have to rely on professional repair. Also, I am learning SO MUCH about software repair & rooting in the process that it's brillant!
Just waiting for the O.T.A. Updates to come through. I have already had 1 that has upgraded my software from 401.2 to .3. I do a "Check for Update" every 20 minutes or so,
Once this is done, I can reinstall CWM (as I have read that CWM can affect the installation of O.T.A.U.s ). Once I am back to, say 2.26.401.3 software, I will re-install CWM, do A BACK-UP (Hahaha!) & proceed to install SU app./ Custom ROM etc.
Thanks.
can you send me the file ruu......? please

Hi !
I have a problem with my HTC DHD device. I unlocked it and rooted it a long time ago, using goldcard, installed Rom Manager, flashed the recovery, install CM...and all of a sudden, my phone shutted down, and couldn't stop rebooting, got the green HTC logo, and he reboot.
I had this problem a few month ago, i tried several things, that put my phone back in S-ON.
I actually got this :
Code:
c:\Fastboot>fastboot getvar all
INFOversion: 0.5
INFOversion-bootloader: 0.85.0024
INFOversion-baseband: 26.09.04.11_M2

INFOhbootpreupdate: 11

I can't access to recovery, and i can't boot on anything else than the HBOOT or FASTBOOT mode.
I tried to unlock from htc dev, but it says that i need to upgrade my HBOOT before using htcdev tool.
As i was back in S-ON mode, i tried severals RUU Roms.
As the getvar all says i'm actually running 2.50.405.2, so i tried to install a clean RUU using
RUU_Ace_Gingerbread_S_HTC_WWE_2.50.405.2_Radio_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2_release_199042_signed
( Got a french HTC DESIRE HD )
I'd like to flash a new recovery to make everything ok again. But i'm stuck, there is no ruu working, and i can't unlock bootloader, nor reinstall a recovery
everytime i try to flash something into any directory, i got this signature failed error.
Code:
c:\Fastboot>fastboot flash /sdcard PD98IMG.zip
sending '/sdcard' (261908 KB)... OKAY [ 43.281s]
writing '/sdcard'... INFOsignature checking...

Can someone help me ?
I might be wrong but I think you might need another ruu and a new goldcard

I tried different RUU versions, all above the actual one or at least the same version.
The thing is that i can't actually put it back on its original configuration. CID is normal though, i can't find the original recovery, i'd like to flash it, i think it's the only thing that remains modified on the phone.
I had the exact same problem as you have when i bought the phone. AAHK was working back then and even with aahk the phone could not be fixed and the with the help of the devs on irc chat i managed to fix it
They told me that my phone was previously rooted and s-off but a strange RUU was flashed so they told me to flash cwm through fasboot and flash a custom rom.
Wich i did and it worked.
P.S. you might wanna try another sd card, this one might be fried ( faulty mem blocks)

Thanks for your answer, your previous problem exactly matches with mine. I'll try what you've said, the thing is that i'm actually not rooted, and S-ON, i can't use htcdev/unlockbootloader, because de version of my bootloader is too old ( i haven't used the phone for a while ) -
In fact :
- To solve my problem, like u said i have to flash CWM and a custom rom
- To flash a recovery, i need to unlock bootloader
- To unlock bootloader, i need to upgrade my bootloader
- To flash a ruu and upgrade my bootloader i need to have an original recovery
- Got a recovery problem i need another one, so let's flash CWM ( repeat everything )

1) conect phone to pc, run instalation ruu
2) during instalation process find in win/temp folder file named rom.zip
3) copy this file into folder with adb and fastboot files
4) cancel instalation
5) in phone run bootloader than fastboot
6) run command prompt in folder with adb, fastboot and rom files, than type "fastboot oem rebootRUU"
7) wait a few minute until phone goes in ruu install mode
8) than from command prompt type "fastboot flash zip room.zip", if you get error repeat once again without exiting ruu install mode (some times is needed to do it twice)
9) when install finish type "fastboot reboot" and now phone should be repaired
You can do factory reset before and after.
